Trying to install stock system update from manufacturer. - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Usually i don't write messages on English forums, but nobody in Poland is able to help me. My friend asked me to update hes stock software of HTC ONE M9 by manufacturer update from 2.10.206.2 to 2.10.206.180. because this update is available. He couldn't do it by himself because somebody flash this phone with TWRP. I've installed stock recovery, but phone still does not allow me to install update or force install it by flashing with bootloader (OTA and recovery software downloaded from xda). I wanted to post some pictures but forum rules doesn't allow me to do it. So I will just point you guys to my polish thread so you can look at the photos. forum.android.com.pl/topic/273151-aktualizacja-stockowego-romu-z-twrp/

You need an untouched system image. File-based OTAs aren't used anymore on "newer" devices like the M9. Block-based OTAs can't be installed anymore as soon as you flash anything via twrp. Either use one of the backups or the Android M RUU for the SKU 206 which you can find both in my google sheet (link can be found in my signature).

I know that probably for you it is a stupid question but which file would be the best for me? can you paste this file name? And would I be able to install it by standart ''fastboot oem rebootRUU ;htc_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip'' commands?

Boot to Download Mode and look at the line with OS at the beginning. That's your current firmware version. Either restore the corresponding backup and then install the updates via the OTA function in settings>about or flash a RUU that has at least the same firmware version (in this case you need to install the OTAs via settings>about) or a newer one (in this case the phone will get updated automatically). [Hint: There only is one O2/206 RUU which fulfills this requirement.] Flashing instructions or restoring instructions can be found directly above the downloads.
You could flash a RUU via fastboot but I personally prefer recommending the SD card method since there are so many reasons why fastboot can fail (missing drivers, still installed Sync Manager, general problems with Win 8/8.1/10 - just to name a few) and it's easier for me to help if you use more fail-safe method.

I've tried to install two stock backups Stock_Backup_2.10.206.180.zip and Stock_Backup_2.10.206.2.zip, neither of them didnt want to flash. I've tried two ways, first in recovery partition via update from sd and second from download mode via 0PJAIMG.ZIP and this is what i got.
postimg.org/image/xz9gtdrdv/
and
postimg.org/image/mnrdgk8vv/
After trying to update from recovery i got:
postimg.org/image/ma887fuub
I didn't do any RUU because i dont see any that would fit my phone, if I'm wrong please correct me. And please help me

I actually don't understand why you completely ignore the instructions above the download links. I'm not going to rephrase every step you have to make since they're all explained in the google sheet.
As mentioned in the sheet those are TWRP backups so you have to restore them with TWRP. Neither the stock recovery nor the SD card method are able to handle them. (The latter is only meant to be used for RUUs.) Besides I told you to look at the line with OS at the beginning when you boot to Download Mode. I highly doubt that it states 2.10.206.8 and 2.10.206.180 at the same time. Choose the one that corresponds to your current firmware version and restore it via TWRP.
Concerning your search for the correct RUU: I told you that the SKU has to match and that you need to look at the 206 RUUs. There are only four RUUs which can be found in the sheet and fulfill this requirement [in chronological order]: 1.32.206.6, 1.32 206.15, 1.40.206.8 and 3.35.206.13. I told you to choose the one that has at least the same firmware version as your phone or a higher one. From your previous posts I know that your firmware is 2.10.206.x. So which of the four has the same or a newer version?

No its not 2.10.206.8 or 2.10.206.180 its 2.10.206.2, as I shown in my first post. Ok I will give it another try, thanks for help.

Good to hear that your problem is solved now. As said before I made a typo. The version 2.10.206.8 doesn't even exist.

[Q] Back to full stock with s-on

Hi guys,
need your help.
I have Europe M9, with S-ON.
Rooted it, and installed TWRP, installed custom rom.
How to revert it to full stock? I have sold the phone, and now buyer wants it back to way it were.
Thanks.
Thankfully it's pretty easy; just download your carrier specific RUU to restore to full stock. It's a Windows executable that completely wipes & return your phone to factory state.
I have bought it in Telenor Serbia it was on 1.32.401.15. Should I use any Europe RUU, or do I need to find one exact to match my carrier, and-or my firmware version?
sorry if being noob, but cannot understand this HTC's nonsense (s-on/s-off, cid, hboot...) thats the exact reason why I have sold it. to complicated for me...
I just want it up and running, and trust me, I will never EVER buy another HTC again.

Since there are two different versions of your firmware and I don't know which one is the correct one for you I would suggest you to use this firmware and downgrade to 1.32.401.8. This works because the aboot has not been updated until now. The process itself is very easy:
Download the RUU
Rename it to 0PJAIMG.zip (that's a zero at the beginning not an O)
Copy the file on an external SD card that is formatted to fat32 and not bigger than 32 gb
Boot into download mode
Follow the instructions that are shown on your M9's screen
Congratulation you are now back on stock rom and firmware
You have to use either this way or the fastboot flashing method since there are no RUU executables for the european version.
Btw: No one here forced you to buy the M9. Since it's simply a matter of taste it's up to you which device you choose. I personally prefer HTC's user friendliness in regard to bootloader unlock and rooting (compare it for example with Samsung's Knox system). But this is not the right place for that debate.
Edit: Since my phone is S-OFF I'm not completely sure but you might have to relock your bootloader or step 5 might no work properly.
I have the same problem, i wanna know how to restore it to full stock, i need it just in case something happens to phone and i need to use my waranty. I'm also on telenor serbia. Any detailed instructions would be much appreciated. And one more thing, will i be able to recevie OTA updates even though its rooted ?

Root by itself doesn't prevent OTAs, but changes to the recovery do. As far as I know, acquiring root (for this device) always involves flashing a custom recovery. So OTA aren't possible until the stock recovery is restored.
Do I need to have sd card, or can I flash it from pc using adb?
I have already tried this method, and fastboot gave me an error 22? Maybe I got wrong firmware. Will try again, thanks.

As far as I know, there is only one. Search in forums.

try this RUU: http://androidruu.com/getdownload.p...6.02.50306G_2_F_release_429340_signed_2_4.exe

If you are S-ON you can only flash a RUU for your carrier and device. If that's the correct RUU for your phone, it will do it.

The question is where can you find correct RUU from specific carrier
So if you're an European open you can't really flash without s off?

There is a RUU list in the General forum. Not all configurations have RUUs, unfortunately, as it has always been with HTC.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/htc-one-m9-dump-t3060545
By far the easiest way for the inexperienced is to use the windows exe version linked to a few posts ago .
If you're on 1.32.401.15 then simply flash 1.32.401.17 using the exe version. Simply run windows program and follow on screen prompts .
Main limitation if you're S on is it will only allow upgrade that is to go to higher number as described .
I think there is also a 1.32.401.8 exe but that's an earlier version so if you tried to use that and you were on higher version such as 1.32.401.15 then it wouldn't allow unless you had obtained S off.

One more thing, i received lates OTA update, but it wont instal because recovery isnt stock. I found stock signed, when i flash it will the phone factory reset or not ?

Developers Edition, unable to update.

Hey all, im not very software proficient, and I need some help in updating my HTC One M9 to Marshmallow.
I recently purchased it from my friend, and apparently, its an International version that is also the developers edition.
It came with TWRP already installed, but I flashed the stock recovery so that I could install the update from HTC itself, But everytime it finishes downloading the update, it gives me an error about it not downloading the correct file. I dont get it, cause its pretty much downloading it by itself, how can it not download the right version.
Is there anyway for me to check and find out exactly what version of the phone this is. Can someone please send me a reliable download link for the official Marshmallow update (already tried using the file on the official HTC website, but apparently had a file size flash limit, this was when using TWRP, not the official recovery) and detailed steps on how to flash it. I have tried multiple ways and have always stumbled upon several errors. Really hoping that nothing is wrong with my phone.
Thank you in advance.
Are you sure it's a developer edition, how do you know this?.

I dont know if it is or not, because when I got the phone, on startup it would give me text in red saying "developers edition, this phone is not for resale of distribution outside blah blah" I dont remember the exact text. But after I flashed the official recovery file, it doesnt give me that anymore.
So lets say its not a developers edition, how do I go about updating it?

That text is an indication that the bootloader got unlocked and that someone flashed something so that the phone is modified and not stock, anymore. It has nothing to do with the developer edition of the M9. The developer edition is just a US version of the M9 which gets delivered with a factory unlocked bootloader. Therefore chances are high that you flashed the wrong (in other words an incompatible) stock recovery. You need to find out the current firmware version of the phone and restore everything to stock by using a TWRP backup or a RUU. My signature contains a link to my google sheet. There you'll find instructions how to find and flash the correct RUU or how to find and correctly restore a corresponding TWRP backup. If you don't follow the instructions you won't be able to update your phone. Updates for the M9 and every other HTC phone that is newer are different than the ones for older HTC phones. My sheet might not contain a RUU for your firmware or a corresponding backup since I don't support every existing firmware. However you can find additional files in my thread (which is linked in the sheet, too, or can be found by visiting the general section). If no one contributed the files you need here on xda you'll need to use Llabtoofer's RUU service. Be aware that it's not for free.

Just to be sure, if my friend who was previously using this phone, flashed another rom on it with the incorrect version, wouldnt the software number also change? Is there no other way to confirm the version of the phone?

The number in settings > about changes with the rom you're flashing. The one located in the download mode only changes if you update the phone with an official OTA or if you set your phone S-OFF via sunshine (which costs 25 bucks) and flash a RUU (or one of sneakyghost's firmware packs) with a different sku afterwards. However if the phone is S-OFF it wouldn't matter which RUU he flashed since with S-OFF almost every RUU can be used with your phone. Only CDMA versions (e.g. Verizon ones) stay incompatible.
Tl;dr: Just flash the 1.32.61.15 one. It's either way compatible with the phone.

Stock Recovery and RUU for 3.35.401.32

Hi all,
Just took the 3.35.401.32 update and now I'd like to grab the stock recovery and RUU for the same version (3.35.401.32). I've checked the usual suspects but they don't seem to have the files, so are they available for download or I have to hold off a little longer until they are?
Cheers all.
I'm pretty sure that the recovery is already available here on xda. However even if it wasn't you could have grabbed it by yourself while creating a backup for that firmware version (and providing it for others afterwards ). There's a guide how to do so in my google sheet. (And that is linked in my signature.)
Unless it's made for a US carrier, every RUU is leaked and not provided by HTC officially. That means that no one knows if or when a RUU for a new firmware version gets available. (E.g. the SKU 708 has only one single RUU for one of the 1.x firmware versions.) Therefore you shouldn't waste your time and wait too long for a RUU but look for other methods that can get you back to stock.
Edit: And here's the link to the recoveries that have been contributed so far.

Hi,
I think you have to s-off your device with sunshine after that you can
downgrade to 1.01.352.25.2 and take the ota again (if you want).
It costs 25$ bucks but it's worth it... for sure better than a not booting device ..IMHO
Ok but how I can apply sunchine without system? It's possible to apply it over fastboot?
I also mail HTC to get the rom but they give me link for TMO and this one are Family plan model...
Thanks for the reply

Exclusive categories and files only downloadable by paid membership subscriptions.
And i read on the web this site are not 100% trustable ;/
Your Issue so is easy to fix d{-_-}b
Your first mistake was to mess with your phone without doing a proper FULL BACK backup, that's like Step 1 from any guide. step 0 unlock boot loader, step 1 do full system back up.
Second, find the images from HTC website, your second mistake is not telling people what carrier you need the images for. If your having issue finding them your first go to should've been HTC chat support and not xda, just ask them to help you find the right one, if you still cant find it most likely there are other devices out there that share the same firmware like Tmo, Metro and fam mobile which any of those system images should work with each other (not saying yours do because again, I don't know what you have /: ).
Third, if TWRP and the HTC recovery wizard are giving you a hard time extract boot, system and recovery then just Push them through adb (Hundreds of how to's out there)
Thanks for your answer dear...
Yes I make a mistake when I don't backup before mess up because always I have the official support to ruu back to stock and kill my problem but this time it's different.
I contact HTC support and they suggest flash TMO ruu but my desire 530 are https://www.walmart.com/ip/Walmart-Family-Mobile-HTC-Desire-530-Smartphone/51671356 like I said on the first line of my description.
The funny part are, the latest ruu available on HTC download page are previous of the ota available for this phone so the locked S-ON state won't allow me to downgrade or flash any image over trwp.
If any user of desire 530 family mobile with the latest OTA can upload he's images I will appreciate.
I literally just told you how to fix it d{-_-}b
I'll Make it super simple for you JUST FOLLOW THE STEPS don't question it just do.
LIke the HTC rep told you and like i told you fam mobile and tmobile share the same firmware SO USE THAT ROM!
STEP 1 Go here: www.htc.com/us/support/htc-desire-530-t-mobile/news/ Download the 1.3GB RUU.exe located at the bottom
STEP 2 On your phone go to DOWNLOAD MODE and connect phone (make sure phone is detected properly)
STEP 3 Double click the RUU.exe hit accept next ->> next ->> until you see a progress bar hit 100% and your phone starts.
THATS IT!!!!!
Things to keep in mind:
- You need to have HTC sync installed for drivers, your phone needs to be charged!
- if the RUU.exe says fail or gives you an error just keep repeating STEP 3 until that progress bar hits 100% I had to do it 3 times, some people had repeat the process 10 times HTC RUU.exe has issues but it should work.
- if the RUU.exe is not detecting your phone make sure you are in DOWNLOAD MODE and NOT JUST IN THE BOOTLOADER OR RECOVERY (Double Check Device Manager on your computer is reading the phone correctly/has properly installed drivers)
- if RUU.exe is giving you compatibility issues you will need to extract boot, system and recovery form the RUU.exe and manually push them through ADB (look up a guide) for this step you will need to have an unlocked bootloader (which you already do) but if you don't (for some odd reason) you should be able to unlock it even with a softbrick (look for a guide).

Rom Update Utilities (RUUs) are *.exe or *.zip files with which you can reflash the stock system and the whole firmware of your phone quite easily.
Strictly speaking only the *.exe files are RUUs (which are nothing more than a *.zip file combined with a fancy installer and HTC_Fastboot files). However, people got used to call them both RUUs and since most of the files here are *.zip files I don't want to start nitpicking.
[*]The catch is that HTC only provides RUU.exe files for their US customers. All other RUUs which you can find in this post got leaked somehow and no one knows if or when new non-US RUUs are going to be available. That's why it might happen that non-US users can't find a publicly available RUU they could use with their phone.

Q19: I couldn't find a RUU or a TWRP backup in this thread that are flashable on my phone. What shall I do now?
A: You have two choices (none of them is for free). If you choose the second one you could help the community a lot by re-uploading the RUU on AFH.
Use Llabtoofer's RUU Service
Try to find a suitable RUU on websites that leak them (e.g. easy-firmware)

In Canadian, flippy means "yes you can". S-off and unlocked bootloader makes no difference. Just flash a stock firmware of the exact same version (see "software version" in settings - software information) that you have now and accept the ota updates as they arrive. If you cannot find a firmware of the same version you are SOL.
There is 2 methods to flash stock firmware. I prefer the external sdcard method (.zip) but you can do it from pc with an RUU program (.exe) via USB.
As stated in the first post the problem is actually that the OP couldn't find a RUU they could use. I just explained why that is the case by quoting the ReadMe thread and highlighting the important parts in red.
And there are more than two methods for flashing a RUU. ?
