Here're the re-mkbootimg-ed stock boot and recovery images for the Huawei Watch:
6.0.1 (MEC23L): here
5.1.1 (LCB43B): here
5.1.1 (LCA49B): here
*these are compressed using 7z to ensure that what you'll download actually works without bothering with hashes and stuff
Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk as usual.
Notes/FAQ:
1.) I re-mkbootimg-ed them since I'll be uploading 2 x 20+MB files if I didn't. Still has the same SHA1 checksums as the ones being checked by stock ROM so it's safe to flash.
2.) The commands for flashing are as follows:
Boot: fastboot flash boot boot.img
Recovery: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
System: use dd to flash to the system partition
*replace boot.img, recovery.img and system.img with their respective filenames
**how to obtain the fastboot executables and drivers are explained in a separate thread
3.) The system.img provided above are stock and NOT ROOTED. If you want to go completely stock, just flash ALL the 5.1.1 images above.

If you have the latest fastboot from the android sdk you can just fastboot flash it to your watch no problem (fastboot flash system system.img). I've done it 10 times or so already, no need for the dd command.
EDIT:
If you still want to do the dd command, then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-watch/general/guide-return-to-stock-huawei-watch-t3219596

AFAIK both "fastboot oem unlock" and lock wipe the cache and userdata partition. A factory reset from recovery would have achieved the same.
Or
Code:
fastboot format cache
fastboot format userdata
But either way things seem to look rosy now.

Hello,
I also have this problem but, moreover, I think I'm also not able to do a data/factory reset (from the recovery I can start the procedure but than the phone reboots without finishing...)
All the rest is the same:
- stucking loop after Cyanogenmod logo and rebooting from the beginning (google logo)
- the new rom I've pushed was disappeared from the folder
So now I don't know what else I can do...

I was using the ClockworkMod (I don't remember exactly the version number but I updated recently and it was the touch screen one). I'll try to re-install also the recovery with the very last version (6.0.4.7). Since now I only put a new cyanogenmod rom (both cm-11-SNAPSHOT-M12 and the last stable cm-10.2.1) with adb push

Just tried.
On the terminal after the command
adb sideload cm-11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-maguro.zip
it tells me "error: closed"
I also tried to reinstall the Clockwork via bootloader but didn't change the situation (still not able to do a complete factory reset)
you first did click on "install zip from sideload" in clockworkmod to activate sideload on the phone, didn't you?

You are right, I didn't click "install zip from sideload" before. Now I tried in this way and, effectively, it worked: I managed to send and install the zip apparently without any problem but than after rebooting I'm still not able to turn on the phone completely. Again the same problem. I re-tried to do wipe data/factory reset both from the recovery and using adb but didn't managed to finish the process...
It seems I tried all the options since now.... but my nexus is still unusable...

ps: I'm using linux so I don't have odin
when the phone is in fastboot mode you should find your bootloader version at the bottom left of the screen, in your case it should be:
BOOTLOADER VERSION - PRIMELC03
when you flash a new bootloader through: fastboot flash bootloader {your-bootloader.img}
you need to reboot for the changes to take effect, you can do it with: fastboot reboot-bootloader
after that you should see a different version on your screen, is that the case?

Yes I have BOOTLOADER VERSION - PRIMELC03

But than, after the reboot, on the screen it's still written BOOTLOADER VERSION - PRIMELC03
I think this is the main problem now... if it's not updated the bootloader I can not reinstall the rom probably...
you can bypass the version checking by extracting the update zip and flash each image manually
in your zip you should find 4 img files: {system, boot, recovery, userdata}.img
you can flash them on by one like the following:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

Tried as you suggested to install the PRIMELC04 bootloader flashing each image.
Apparently is not possible also in this way. After rebooting on the screen is still written BOOTLOADER VERSION - PRIMELC03.
So I tried to install a stable cyanogenmod 10.2.1 (which should work with the bootloader 03).
I used adb sideload and after the "installing updates" message, everything stopped with the message "fixing fs_size in crypto footer". After more than 30 min I rebooted and the situation was the same as before.

Hey guys and girls,
This is a bit of copy and paste for from my guide for the HTC U12+. I thought it might be helpful to people here too.
If you find mentions of the HTC U12+ please notify me and I will correct them.
I couldn´t find any guide on how to root the Asus Zenfone 6 without twrp yet, so I thought maybe it´s good to have one. It´s also useful for people who don´t like to boot/flash the recovery but want root access.
I also decided now to do a little write up about the A/B slot partition system.
General Information about the A/B slot partition system and seamless updates
Google firstly introduced seamless updates on the Pixel Phones and with it the A/B partition system.
So this means, contrary to non A/B devices, there are two copys of most partitions except userdata.
We have two system (system_a and system_b), two boot (boot_a and boot_b) and two vendor (vendor_a and vendor_b) partitions, amongst others (can be found further down in the partition list but let´s concentrate on these).
When booted in the OS, one slot is actively used and the other is "inactive".
The main advantage that emerges now is, that in case an OTA arrives the "inactive" partitions get updated, while the OS is running. That means while the actual OTA is happening you can use your phone just like you always do.
The following reboot will boot into the former "inactive" slot and use the seamless updated partitions. This happens seamless and just with a reboot. So OTAs are much faster!
If you are interested further here are some links:
https://www.xda-developers.com/list-android-devices-seamless-updates/
https://source.android.com/devices/tech/ota/ab/
https://source.android.com/devices/tech/ota/ab/ab_faqs
Here’s another writeup from the XDA portal!
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-...ess-updates-affect-custom-development-on-xda/
But here are a few tips and tricks:
How to reboot to bootloader to be able to use fastboot:
From booted OS with buttons: Press and hold power down until the screen goes black, then press and hold power and vol up to enter bootloader
non responding and the phone isn´t booting: press and hold power plus volume up to enter bootloader
From the OS or recovery via ADB (requires USB Debugging enabled in dev options):
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
How to get the active slot:
Code:
fastboot getvar current-slot
How to set the active slot:
A word of advice. If you don´t know what you´re doing you should probably not change slots. Because my U12+ only has a working A Slot. The B slot is without the first OTA or flashing a RUU unbootable.
Set active slot to a:
Code:
fastboot --set-active=a
Set active slot to b:
Code:
fastboot --set-active=b
How to extract the boot.img from a firmware.zip
1. Download the firmware zip from here : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-6-ZS630KL/HelpDesk_Download/
2. Follow the steps described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/how-to/guide-how-to-extract-payload-bin-ota-t3830962
3. Obtain your boot.img
How to root your phone without TWRP
Prerequisites:
- unlocked bootloader
- USB-Debugging in developer options enabled
- latest adb and fastboot binaries (can always be found here
- working adb and fastboot environment
- magisk-patched boot.img
How to:
1. Download the latest magisk manager from here and install it on your phone: https://github.com/topjohnwu/MagiskManager/releases
2. Get a boot.img that fits your current firmware. Look at the point above, how to extract it from an Asus firmware zip.
Important: if you decide to use a pre-patched boot.img (available below), download it and place it in your fastboot folder, then skip to step 11!
3. Copy the extracted boot.img to your phone
4. Open the magisk manager app and tap two times on install
5. Now choose patch boot.img file and select the previously extracted boot.img you copied to your phone in the upcoming file chooser
6. Wait for the boot.img to be patched
7. Now connect your phone to your pc and make sure usb debugging is enabled in developer options
8. Open up a terminal in your fastboot folder and make sure adb is working by typing
Code:
adb devices
into terminal which should return your serial number
9. Pull the patches boot.img to your fastboot folder via:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/Download/magisk_patched.img
10. Reboot to bootloader:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
11. Flash the magisk patched boot.img:
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
12. Congratulations you´re now rooted.

You need to unlock the bootloader for this which will prevent you from getting ota updates automatically from asus. But you can install updates manually.
Ok, great, thank you.
Remember, this will void your warranty (as per Asus' own definition). Sad, but true.
I would root it in an instant, but am hesitant due to warranty being void.
Any way to unofficially unlock the Bootloader?

In Europe unlocking the bootloader and rooting doesn't legally void warranty. It was ruled this way a few years ago.

Use Translator.
I managed to update my device using the stock recovery. (There is a option like "apply update from sdcard") Now it is on the -133 Firmware, so I should've been able to use the existing, pre-patched boot of that firmware. When I tried to flash it, I got the following error:
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
target reported max download size of 805306368 bytes
sending 'bootb' (47064 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.094s]
writing 'bootb'...
FAILED (remote: (bootb_b) No such partition)
finished. total time: 1.106s
the getvar command returns the following output:
Code:
fastboot getvar current-slot
current-slot: b
finished. total time: 0.009s
Do you have any advice for me ?
Edit:
After being curious and trying
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched.img
which worked, I tried to flash it at the active slot b explicitly:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b magisk_patched.img
which worked, too. I'm having root, now.
The point is, to specify the partition precisely (e.g. with _a or _b).
Thank you for the guide, maybe you could add my findings to make it easier for others to root their devices, @Freak07 .

Did you download the latest adb and fastboot binaries from the link I provided in the OP?
Or did you use already existing ones or from a toolkit/easy installer etc. from somewhere on xda?
To me it sounds you were using outdated binaries.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img detects the active slot automatically if you’re on the latest binaries. Did it like this on the zenfone like on all other A/B devices I’ve owned so far and it works just fine.

That might have been the the point. In fact, I did download them, but I used (definately outdated, because on my pc since literally years) a minimal adb and fastboot installation.
I didn't think about it, as this is my first A/B device.
I won't try it now with the latest ones, because it worked and I don't want to destroy something (since we still dont have a working TWRP for backup & recovery) but I guess you're right, and the problem were the outdated binaries.
Thank you.

The point is, to specify the partition precisely (e.g. with _a or _b).
Thank you for the guide, maybe you could add my findings to make it easier for others to root their devices, @Freak07 .

I used the official app, while the device was connected to the internet. So yes, ASUS knows that I unlocked the device.
The device was still at the -75 firmware, when I did it.
@MirkoMirko9 If you can live with asus knowing that you unlocked the device, try it again with active internet connection.
As far as I know, there is no other method yet.
unable to unlock bootloader with the official unlock device tool, it is showing network error although my network is alright. Any workaround?

In other Treble (a/b slots) based phones, the recovery is built into the boot rom. Likely you will need to re-flash the boot.img. That's what I would try first.

You are going to need extract the global rom
Follow these instructions
Extract Android OTA Payload.bin File using Payload Dumper Tool
Learn how to dump and extract Android OTA Payload.bin file to get the boot.img (for rooting with Magisk), vendor.img, and other other partition images.
www.thecustomdroid.com
Once extracted, you should then be able to fastboot flash boot_(a or b) boot.img

I've extracted both versions of the rom. The "output" folder in their respective paths contains all the extracted img files. All files are included for completeness.

What TWRP did you install? Make sure you're downloading a TWRP that's available for this device. So far, to my knowledge, there isn't a TWRP recovery for this device yet.
Hello there, how did u just unlock bootloader by fastboot command? didn't use OEM unlock option on dev setting?
Btw can you share me your twrp that you used?
I need it so badly my rom bugged stuck at google account setup
I was rooted with Magisk 25.2 fine. I followed the OTA update intructions (uninstall, update, install to the other partition etc). When Magisk rebooted my phone I got a messae that says
QUALCOM CrashDump Mode
-------------------------------
dm-verity device corrupted
verity_ctr
I can reboot back into my other partition, and I have a version of the OS that's pre-OTA, but I've lost root there. I can switch between partitions and go from the Qualcom CrashDump to my working non-rooted OS.
How do I get from either of these places to a rooted version of the OTA update?
I'd suggest waiting for the next OTA and do it again.
However, I don't understand why you did the uninstall, update, install to the other partition etc part. I usually just do the following steps:
Install OTA (do NOT reboot yet)
Install Magisk in the other partition
Reboot
So far it has worked for me for each update.

You may be able to copy your good partitions (a or b, whichever works) to the other one. So they'll both be loaded with working stock firmware. Then take the OTA and drop in a magisk patched boot image after OTA is good

The current OTA is still pending, and I don't have root anymore, so waiting won't get me anywhere.

Something like these, or manually. Be sure to figure out which partition (a or b) is currently good and working so you don't copy the wrong way. If you do copy the wrong direction, you may have to msm

Thank you, I'll dig into these links!
I got similar problem, solved by disabling dm-verify manually. You can try extract vbmeta.img from rom package using payload_dumper, then use fastboot to disable dm-verify.
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
I'm having this same problem, but to fix it I need to switch back to the "good" slot and boot my phone normally to fix it. However after booting my phone into fastboot, I'm unable to run the appropriate command:
Code:
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot: unknown option -- set-active=a
Do I have the wrong version of fastboot installed on my PC? How can the rest of fastboot work but not this specific command?

You could try:
fastboot set_active other
Or
fastboot set_active a
Or
fastboot -a (this is in the documentation but I have never tried it, nor see it online often)

Spent some time trying to do this. fastboot said Rewriting, Sending, writing, Finished. All OKAY. No error messages in there. But when I rebooted into the other partition I got the same dm-verity crash dump.

I dug a bit further and tried these as well:
Code:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta_a vbmeta.img
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta_system_a vbmeta_system.img
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta_vendor_a vbmeta_vendor.img
Whenever I try to boot to the a partition, I just loop back into fastboot mode. The b partition still works though.

Maybe you could try set-active a (if a slot is the bad rom) first, reboot into fastboot again and then use fastboot to flash vbmeta with disable verity parameter.
Or you could try to boot into good rom, and flash full update package using local update instead of ota, then see if it can boot into updated rom.

I did switch the active slot to a, just cause that seemed like a good idea.
How do I only flash the update package to the A slot? I thought it went to both by default?

When you flash tom in the system, it only update the firmware in another slot. So if your current good rom is in slot b, you can just boot into slot b and apply system update via local update, the updated rom will be in slot a.

If you have the images:
fastboot flash system_a system_a.img
fastboot flash system_b system_b.img
it's also possible to pull the whole partitions down with msm tool (press f8, select partitions and readback, files go to c:\) or using dd.
If not, #19 above
