I'm trying to backup my texts, but the app only sees my texts from the last few hours. Textra sees all my texts, but the stock Messages app only sees the same texts that the backup apps show (I've tried quite a few). I tried clearing cache (both phone and Messages app). I'm running a Marshmallow ROM, and it (like all the others) has the traditional "erase user data when phone unexpectedly dies" issue. But in this case, the phone died but kept all my data. Except that when it died, the timing corresponds with the timing of what texts are visible in the default Messages app (and what gets backed up).
Is there any way to make the default Messages app see all my texts again so I can back them up?

Hi,
after freezing and deinstalling a few apps my SMS/MMS app comes up, briefly shows my SMSes and then just dies silently. Handcent works fine. Are there any dependencies for SMS/MMS to work? What package would do a reinstall of this app?
thanks _Hans
I had the same issue. Didn't get solved until I installed another rom. I don't remember what exactly I deleted as far as apps go either.
Alright, I'm running Deck 1.2.1, no customer kernels. This was happening before I rooted as well though.
Google Voice will work on my phone for the first few texts of the day. I'll receive a few just fine, but then it stops. After it stops, it won't sync or refresh at all. The circle stays there, and when I send a text from the phone, it gets stuck in an infinite send loop.
I've uninstalled, turned off data, and such. I can use it through google.com/voice but not on the phone.
Any clever ideas?
I had the same issue on stock 2.2 unrooted. I uninstalled the app cleared the cache and reinstalled the voice app. note that once you re-install the app, the app changes your voice settings on the website and un-checks "Receive text messages on this phone". You will have to turn it back on. It worked fine for me after that. You may want to force stop PC Synchronize (A background service) and clear cache and data on that too. The only other solution I found if that didn't work was a complete wipe. Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot raremind. I uninstalled, wiped cache, and reinstalled. Like you said I checked the website and found the "Receive text messege on this phone." box was unchecked. Everythings working perfect now.
Appreciate it man.
I've been using Go SMS Pro for a while along with Tablet Talk. Recently, I've been having some Weird Stuff happening. Go SMS will often have a notification that "Sticks" even after I've read a message, making me have to hit clear. Message syncing has also been a bit quirky lately.
So I've uninstalled Go SMS Pro after backing up the settings to the internal memory/sdcard. But when I go into Messaging and re-enable notifications, it does not allow me to set the corresponding ringtone/vibrate settings anymore. I have tried clearing data on the messaging app with no success. I'm running the current stock T-Mobile ICS firmware with root.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I've looked everywhere for the solution to this issue but I'm not getting anywhere.
I just did a full wipe and installed slimkat 9.0. Restored all of my apps using Titanium Backup, and all of the apps and their data restored flawlessly. Except Messenger, when I would restore the apps data and go to see a conversation, all of the conversations change order on the screen and it's as if the messages are all being deleted because it keeps on showing the preview for older conversations as the conversation order changes. Then I am left with no conversations whatsoever.
Any help would be appreciated
You mean the sms app? Make sure it's not set to delete messages after a certain limit per thread
I mean the messenger app, the one Google released not too long ago. You can't set the message limit

Do the messages show with another sms app?
I'm having this exact same problem on a Droid RAZR HD running CM11. The backup is from the same phone using stock Kitkat 4.4.2. Any help?

It has restored the messages but will not restore the data (pics and videos) from a Gdrive backup.
So, it finds the backup and grabs all the chats but stops when downloading the media.
Has anyone managed this?
Yeah mine restored perfectly fine 733MB restored all back.
I didn't do anything special, opened the app, put in my mobile number, the it said backup found and restored it with all options, was on stable wifi at the time
I'm having the same issue on my six pro. WhatsApp backed up chats instantly but media has been stuck at 0 percent for 3 days
Full WhatsApp backup media restore worked perfectly first time and then a second.
I had the same problem. But was able to fix it by force stopping Whatsapp, delete the WhatsApp media folder, then start Whatsapp again.
I was using the WhatsApp beta. I did have the same problem as you (and I had no notification sound).
After I left the beta program and installed the stable WhatsApp I could restore the data with the new Pixel 6 Pro.
