I got my LG G4 from Verizon about a year ago. In January, my phone shut itself off and got stuck in a bootloop, just showing the LG screen then resetting. My boyfriend was able to get it to turn back on using the USB debug mode but he's now in Asia until June. I came back from a long trip to find that that no longer works. I downloaded SDK and tried doing a reboot again and it still just reloops the LG screen. The phone is running stock firmware, bootloader hasn't been tampered with, and no attempts to unlock or root the phone have ever been made. Is there anything else I can do before resorting to the factory reset? If I can't fix it, is there a way to get the data onto a drive before resetting it?

Hey all,
The other day I used my G Pad as normal, went out came back a few hours later and found all my apps to be crashing. I figured something was just acting up and a reboot would help. Rebooted, got stuck in a boot loop. Tried to factory reset, no luck. Tried using the LG Mobile Support tool, then factory resetting again, still boot looping.
It still charges, turns on, can get into download mode as well as the factory reset screen, but none of those things are getting me through this boot loop.
Prior to all this, I was running stock with root. That's it. Never flashed any ROMs or ran any crazy apps. I'm gutted this is happening after I've used numerous Android devices in the past that I rooted, ROM'd, etc. and never bricked.
Is there anything else I can try? It's out of warranty and I imagine LG repairs would cost nearly as much as a new unit caught on sale.
Appreciate any help. Thanks.
Try using smartflash tool. Not sure if it will work on the GPad but can't hurt if nothing else works

Symptoms are exactly what I experienced a couple of weeks ago. Like you, I tried factory resets and all options in the LG mobile support tool - no luck, it continued to boot loop. Mine was rooted but stock, like yours.
Sorry to tell you, I sent mine to LG (it was still under warranty), and they had to "replace flash RAM", according to the ticket. Very quick turnaround, and it's working perfectly now. I don't know what the process would cost you.
Hope you find a solution...this is a perfect tablet for my uses, and I'm glad to have it working again.
There is an offline LG flash tool which allow you to set up a http server and cheat the LG support tool to flash a local kdz ROM file. Since you can enter the download mode. This way definitely works. Just search the offline kdz tool in the forum.
Hi guys, here is my problem:
I have the 815P version of lg g4. i upgraded to marshmallow last year via kdz=> lgup=>upgrade and i made the mistake to ENCRYPTthe phone.
today i wanted to go back to lollipop because i prefer root over the newest android. got the right kdz, got the right drivers and did the deed. The thing is, i forgot to unecrypt prior to downgrading
and now im stuck in a bootloop. I can go as far as asking to input the encryption password but then the phone just sits there. I have waited for 15 minutes and it just shows me lg logo, so im guessing its a bootloop alright.
Tried the usual stuff: unplug the battery, plug it again, press up and connect the usb cable...doesnt do anything, lg up doesnt recognize it. What options do i have? im about to cry now :crying:
All I could find is to boot into fastboot use the following command:
fastboot erase userdata
And perform a factory reset again

Thanks for the response. It was a defective usb cable that was preventing me from going download mode. i used the original cable and was able to upgrade to MM, remove encryption and downgrade to LP again.
My rooted 1.2yr old VS986 started bootlooping a few days ago. It will sometimes boot if I let it sit in the freezer for a bit; if it boots, usually it will run for 5-20minutes before it quits again. It's able to go into recovery mode (pwr+voldown) or download mode (pwr+volup) without freezer treatment. In recovery mode there is text at the top that reads "modified".
I already have the warranty replacement phone. Before returning the bootlooping phone the Verizon employee warned me that in order to avoid a potential $300 charge, I should get it back to stock before sending it in.
Is it as simple as flashing the VS98613B kdz while in download mode following the steps here: [Guide] LG G4 Stock Firmware (Go Back to Stock) KDZ & TOT Method, or is there something else I need to be aware of? Has anyone ever flashed an LG G4 with the infamous bootlooping issue?
If it's going to need more time to complete the process I can remove the circuit board and heat it up with a heatgun in an attempt to reflow whatever connection busted.
EDIT: Went ahead and did it. The phone bootlooped at 83% so I'm not sure if the roms any good. But the good news is that the recovery menu now says "Official"!!!
Thanks for the info. Gf phone started doing the bootloop last night gonna try out the freezer method to recover some photos. So far haven't been able to get recovery or download mode to work.

As long as it says official you'll be good to go. If you're sending it in for warranty repair, LG will just replace the mother board without checking the software. You can also just use insurance and get a new phone, just have an "accident".
Hello everyone first time using this forum.
About 6 months ago I purchased a rooted verizon lg g3 from someone off Craig's list. I am in canada. Never had an issue with it the Phone worked amazing up to a month ago. My girlfriend also has a lg g3 and her phone did an automatic update on night. A couple nights after mine did as well which I thought was kind of weird considering it was rooted. Ever since I haven't been able to use the phone out of safe mode. I only get about 2-3 minutes on the phone before it freezes(unless in safe mode, it does not freeze in safe mode). The only thing I'm able to do it restart it from that point on. Can't unlock or get to main screen unless I'm lucky. But even then I can't launch anything. I tried deleting all the apps through the google store while in safe mode but still freezes if I start it normally. I am worried if I factory reset I will lose the root and wont be able to use the phone since its American and I live in canada.
What are my options. Thanks in advance
You probably need to flash a completely stock ROM.
What model is your phone?
If you are rooted you probably have a custom recovery. Try flashing a custom Rom like fulmics.

Long story short my V521 is bricked, as far as I can tell.
Here’s what happens:
Turn on.
Shows ‘can’t detect corruption’ unlocked boot loader screen.
Shows LG screen.
Reboots.
If I attempt factory reset via hardware buttons, I get a Nougat circle that says ‘Erasing...’, then reboots into the above loop.
Download mode seems to be nonexistent, as it just never works. My PC does not recognize it as the right device for LG support tool or Uppercut to find it, despite all drivers being installed.
ADB was working until stock recovery flashing (which I thought was gonna be a fix...)
And now I don’t know what to do.
Basically, the only thing I have is an unlocked bootloader.
Someone. Please.
Help me.
