Bootloop? /Enters Recovery Stock/Enters Download Mode/Odin fails/HELP - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having a big trouble with my Galaxy Note 2 GT N7100. Everything was going well, I have an spare battery, so I changed it when the other one died. When I turned on my phone, it didn't boot. It keeped showing the Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 screen.
I can't remember if I was on 4.3 or 4.4.4. It wasn't rooted, and it had an stock recovery.
So I proceeded to flash an stock ROM via Odin. This didn't work. I downloaded different ROMs. 4.4.4 and 4.3. None of those worked. I tried different USB cables and USB ports. Different PCs with different windows version. Odin still failing.
The phone enters recovery without any problems, takes like 1 minute to enter into recovery mode, but at the end goes by. But this appears when I go into the recovery:
failed to mount cache/efs
failed to mount/system
can't mount/cache/recovery/last_install
I tried a wipe factory reset, nothing happens, those error (failed to mount cache, etc) keeps showing up.
I even tried with different Odin versions, 3.07, 3.09, and 3.10.7. It keeps failing.
When I go into download mode this is shown:
product name: GT-7100
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Knox Warranty VOID: 0
AP SWREV:2
Then I tried to flash a custom recovery and flash a custom rom. Nothing. I tried with this custom recovery
- philz_touch_6.07.6-jfltexx.tar
- philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar
- recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-n7100
- recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7100
Then I decided to flash this one
- twrp-2.3.1.1-n7100.img . tar
Aaand something interesting happened, Odin didn't show an error. RESET was blue, and then PASS on green. BUT when I do vol+, power button, home button it keeps going into stock recovery.
So I tried to flash the TWRP recovery again but unchecking the autoboot option. PARTITION WAS NOT CHECKED. Odin said RESET on blue then PASS on green, didn't auto reboot, so I did the combo keys. Vol+, power button, home button.
Still entering on stock recovery.
I dont know what else to do. I'm desperate. I mean the phone turns on, but it freeze on the Samsung Galaxy Note II screen. There has to be something to do right?
I really hope you could help me!
Thank you in advanced.

Sounds like a hard emmc corruption (very common in earlier Galaxy devices note 1,2 and S2) but I can't be so sure
did you try flashing a new recovery from stock recovery ? if I remember correctly philz recoveries should work even from stock
if you didn't try please download a recovery from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028103 and try flashing it in stock recovery let's hope that works

I am afraid you have the SDS problem that so may Note 2's experience. Mine included. Try the methods above, but i feel they will also fail.
Only fix is to replace eMMC chip or motherboard.
Sorry for your loss

I haven't try that, I didn't know that I could flash a custom recovery from stock recovery. But I don't know Hoy to do that. I should save the recovery I'm going to flash on my SD card and then look for it and flash it? Or there is another way to do so?
If the problem is a hardware problem, and replace the motherboard is needed, how come the phone turns on? I thought that if the motherboard is broken or something the phone doesn't boot at all.

Replacing the motherboard would fix the problem? There are some motherboard on ebay for 25-40 $. Is it worth to give it a try? or it would be better to buy another phone? Like moto g 2nd gen for 99$ for example.
Why the phone boots if the motherboard is damaged?
thanks in advanced for your response! :good:

to flash a recovery ,yes download the .zip version put it on external sd card and flash it from stock recovery (I used to do this all the time on my old Note 2 but that was a long time ago ) ,it's the only way to flash any thing to your phone right left right now
emmc corruption doesn't put your phone on a "DEAD" state ,sometimes when the corruption affect data or last few blocks from system the phone work normally but the second the system writes the corrupted blocks it get's boot loops

because not the whole motherboard is damaged but only the emmc ship ,you can't change emmc ship without replacing the whole motherboard
edit :
I can't put external links because apparently I am a 'noob' here otherwise I would've put the direct link to the need recovery

yes he can change emmc chip without replacing whole motherboard, . It's a common thing in phone service, so just ask in a few places to get the quote and see if it makes sense to repair
you can google "note 2 emmc" on youtube to see how it looks. The chip itself is very cheap, like 5$, so if you know someone with the tools, then I'd just try to repair it

Note 2 softbricked, TWRP recovery says (system/data/EFS/usb/data etc...) cant mount!

Hi guys,
New to XDA, I have a Note 2 which was getting a bit sluggish but worked fine, I rooted and custom flashed TWRP and saved a NANDROID BACKUP using TWRP to SDCARD and kept that on the desktop for safe keeping.
The phone worked fine after that for some time, Now spontaneously I woke up in the morning with the phone stuck on the samsung logo screen, so i knew it was softbricked but i cant understand how that happened.
First thing i tried apart from multiple restarts, removing battery etc, was then boot into custom recovery TWRP and try and restore from SDCARD nandroid backup. But it says EVERYTHING CAN'T be mounted!
E: Unable to find partition size for '/boot''
E: Unable to find partition size for '/recovery'
E: Unable to find partition size for '/modem'
E: Primary block device '/dev/block/mmcb1k0p16' for mount point '/data' is not present!
unable to mount '/data', EFS, System, cache and so forth.....
The phone was sincerely working fine and this happened seemingly randomly while asleep. Phone hadnt dropped and was connected to charger, and prior to this was restarted several times with no issues.
I have been looking at endless articles, I changed to CWM, TWRP, Philz and Stock Recovery and ALL OF THEM are unable to mount. So this does NOT seem to be a problem in the recovery. I used TWRP 2.8.0.1 for my Note 2 as well as 2.7.0.1. So I have a perfect NANDROID RESTORE on my SDCARD and DESKTOP to fix this but no way of mounting it to recovery?
Odin works fine and each time i flashed the recovery it would work fine. Is there some way of fixing it with ODIN?
Any input here would be greatly appreciated, and hopefully this helps someone else with the exact same issue.
Cheers.

It is possible that your Nandroid Backup is corrupt. It happens. Also, as you tried everything, I think you should flash fresh stock rom via odin.
Press thumps up if you found this suggestion helpful.

Hi ceomaverick,
Thanks for replying so fast, I may have not explained clearly but, the NANDROID BACKUP should be fine, its on the SD but cant be seen by any of the Recoverys (TWRP,CWM,stock,Philz) because nothing is able to MOUNT. So whether or not the nandroid backup is corrupt doesnt matter because we cant use it yet, as first problem is mounting to use the custom recovery restore.
Thanks for the suggestion about the Stock ROM , I have been downloading that for the past few hours! (XME-N7100XXUFNI4-20141020155451.zip) haha! That is what I will try next via Odin, just not sure how to do it safely. I will try and google and article for re-flashing stock rom via odin to make sure i tick all the correct boxes. If anything works will be back to update.
Cheers
P.s If anyone is interested in looking for this phones Stock ROM I found it here:

Well, no hassle really. ODIN 3.09 does a great job. Just dump your file in AP tab and start after MD5 is verified. You should be fine. Welcome.

Bad news, Odin failed halfway through. Was able to boot back into download mode thankfully. But after rebooting again, seems the phone is now HardBricked. Meaning it wont even turn on.
Not sure what options are left now (if any). Anyone know what to do with a Note 2 hardbrick (apart from use it as an expensive door wedge).
Cheers

This should not happen unless the cable or the usb ports are faulty. ( or if u have not followed the instructions correctly )
Anyway,
Can u still go to download mode? If yes, try a different cable and flash.
If no, use a USB jig to revive your phone. Ebay has them in plenty. With this you might get into download mode.
Also, are u flashing the correct firmware?
I have flashed custom ROMs n number of times without a single instance of failure.
Best of luck.

Hi again,
Yes, I can fully appreciate why you would say that, from what I see ODIN is very straight forward and unless you do something totally (silly), like jiggle the cable or do something midway it should not hardbrick. Therefore it makes sense you suggesting the cable is faulty, but it seemed to copy over 32GB of data seemlessly in one go. Although i will change the cable as a precaution as there is a slight cut.
When I say hardbricked, I mean hardbricked as in no recovery and no download mode, and no display whatsoever no matter what you do.
[UPDATE] Okay, the strangest thing happened. After a whole day of charging the phone, sometimes trying it on for luck, hoping something would happen. I went to the doctors and came back, and oddly enough the screen had life!!! Yes, this gets bizarre, I repeat a clearly hardbricked phone resurrected back to life with a screen showing ("A firmware upgrade encountered an error, please retry with kies") or something like that, so overjoyed with this sign of life I carefully put it into download mode and its now waiting.... But before I try Odin again, I think I will take a leaf from Ceomavericks suggestion and get a brand new cable from another samsung phone and use that this time.
By the way Ceomaverick, last time i just tried to flash to stock rom using AP, and kept autorebook and Ftime checked.
This time I am seeing on a thread to do the following, please advise (given that my TWRP doesnt mount anything at all).
It says do this: from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43760271&postcount=22
Open ODIN, and check Re-Partition, Nand Erase All, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time. Uncheck all other boxes. Click the PIT button and select the PIT file appropriate for your device (16GB or 32GB). Click the PDA file and choose the Stock Rom you downloaded. Press start and wait.
File Type: rar PIT_t03g_0907_16GB.rar - [Click for QR Code] (899 Bytes, 84 views)
File Type: zip BOOTLOADER_N7100.zip - [Click for QR Code] (1.03 MB, 75 views)
click start.
If everything goes well, the process should succeed and the phone should reboot. Don't wait for the phone to boot into android. Immediatly boot into recovery, factory reset the phone and wipe cache. Reboot to Android.
Now, if everything worked well, your phone should boot into Android. And then sort out the sleep of death issue.
I think I will wait for some feedback before doing this and just enjoy that my phone is mysteriously back in download mode, perhaps a hardware issue......

Cheers
UPDATE:
Now that we are back to softbrick, I tried download mode and ODIN again, this time it fails right near the end. Last time it failed somewhere in the middle. So it seems to randomly fail and this is with the brand new USB Sony PS4 Cable. I ditched the worn out samsung cable because of the first fail. So twice its failed, but at different points. If it doesnt hardbrick again this time I suppose I will keep repeating till it passes.
For now just a straight rom flash, not sure if i should repartition with the before mentioned PIT Files and bootloader etc. Wont do that unless im told.
Thanks

Good news is you can visit download mode.
Ok. Alternative.
Download Philz recovery latest version. Flash it via ODIN. If it succeeds, u can flash a touchwiz rom
If that fails, then your partition table is corrupt (asumming thr r no hardware issues. )
Download firmware from different region for your note 2. India maybe. And flash them. May be this might do the trick.
If all above fails, it has to b a hardware issue.

Hi ceomaverick!
Just going to highlight what you said with a few questions please.
"Good news is you can visit download mode. " - Yes, and once I tried to flash it for the second time it got hardbricked round 2. So somehow me flashing it gives it a seemingly temporary hardbrick. That was some hours ago and still no way to turn it on or get any sign of life, just like yesterday before it miraculously came to life again. Which since it has happened once I am guessing it will come back to life again as i followed the exact same procedure as before but Odin failed much later on into the process rather than halfway through.
"Download Philz recovery latest version. Flash it via ODIN. If it succeeds, u can flash a touchwiz rom" - Okay I had Philz before I will reflash it when it comes up and i suppose search for a note 2 touchwiz rom. Philz as before wont be able to mount anything though, even sim card. As i did this prior none of them, TWRP, Philz or CWM can mount anything. So even if i have the ROM file i wont be able to use it on SD if the SD doesnt mount, but i can try it through Odin?
"If that fails, then your partition table is corrupt (asumming thr r no hardware issues. )" - I suspect this is the case hence not mounting, so do I use that PIT file and select Re-Partition in Odin to resolve that?
"Download firmware from different region for your note 2. India maybe. And flash them. May be this might do the trick." - Good idea, while the hardbrick is waiting to resurrect (LOL), I will start a download.
"If all above fails, it has to b a hardware issue. " - Again something I suspect, from forum could be this dreaded eMMC "insane samsung chip" problem which is as far as i know a 16gb internal SD? If so, perhaps there is a way to put in a 16gb SD and edit boot to mount from there as internal instead from the eMMC? Sorry if thats way out there, but i read something like this once.
Appreciate the help, waiting for it to spring back into life

If the firmware from other region fails, then find pit file for 16gb to flash. If that too fails, I think your phone needs hardware repair.

Note 2 stuck at Start Up screen. Please help

My Galaxy Note 2 is stuck at the Start up screen screen. Where its an all black bg and simply says Samsung Galaxy Note II
I have tried using recovery mode, cleared cache, and reset to factory. Neither troubleshoot method worked.
I have tried numerous Odin autoroots. none work. Whenever I try to root it fails. Im guessing it might be because I dont have Dev Debug enable and I cant get into my phone to enable it. because of this issue
I have tried looking for TWRP .tar but every file I download the file is always a .img
The Model of the phone is a SGH-T889 (T-mobile Note II)
I am all out of ideas, and I dont know what to do. I have been search for answers for hours and everytime I think I found a solution it doesnt work.
What ROM was your phone on when this happened ?
Can you get int to download mode ? If yes try flashing stock ROM and see if it helps.

It was on the offical default rom. the phone was never modded, or rooted.
My niece downloads a bunch of kiddie games onto the phone, we constantly have to uninstall them. My thoughts and the T-mobile tech suspects that it the crash may have been caused my too many updates or a bad updated file most likely due to the games or game.
I can get the phone into download mode, and recovery mode.
In reovery mode I have 6 options
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cashe partition
apply update from cache
I have tried Apply update from cache, Wipe cache partition, then Wipe data.factory reset. I also attempted to put a CF auto root .md5 file and a KIES .md5 file which I believe is a stock firmware file on a SD card. to try to use the apply update from external storage option, but neither file showed up when I went into the option. So I guess I didnt have the right sort of file.
So recovery didnt work so I tried using Odin v3.07 and Odin v3.09 with CF auto root files for the SGH-T889, that didnt work, ecerytime I tried to apply it, It was always Fail within seconds. I tried other root files that are made for other versions of the Galaxt Note 2 like the GT-N1700 but those also simply failed.
I tried using what I believe to be stock frimware files with Odin. and those also Failed.
Im not exactly the best person with these. I learn mostly what I know from the internet and reading various forums, youtube videos, and other people experiences. I cannot find anyone who's problem has not yet been fixed through the above methods. so I really dont know where to go from here.
I think the reason I cant Flash from PC is because it might be possible USB Debugging is not enabled. Not sure if this is what is causing all the Fails in odin

Lets see if we can get this resolved.
1) Do you remember what version of Android the phone was on 4.3 or 4.1.2 ?
2) Put your phone in download mode then connect to your computer via usb. Start Odin in admin mode (right click and run as admin).
3) Now do you see ID:COM section turn blue ? Under message you can see "Added!". If you see this then phone is recognized by Odin.
4) If your phone was on 4.3 then download this most up to date firmware - from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/22863/T889UVUCMK7_T889TMBCMK7_TMB/
5) Once downloaded, extract the file(use 7zip or winrar), once extracted you will see a file with .md5 extension.
6) Now going back to ODIN, click on PDA and then browse to this file which you just extracted.
7) This takes some time, once done you should see a message like "Checking MD5 finished successfully", "Leave CS".
8) You can leave Auto reboot and F-reset time checked.
9) Now click Start and let the process finish.
10) If everything goes fine you should see a green message "Pass"
Let me know how it goes.
I have the same problem as the OP (boots only up to Samsung logo with black bg) but it was not caused by niece downloading games but instead from trying to install jedi masterx2 rom.
I did what ciphercodes recommended and put phone in download mode and odin went through the motions of installing the stock os (in my case version 4.3) but after apparently installing the rom it again booted up to Samsung note II logo in black bg.
luckily I can install either Clockword mod recovery v6.0.4.3 or teamwin v2.8.6.0
The clockword mod recovery can read the external sd card (whereas funnily enough the teamwin can't) and I can attempt recovery from previous backups on cmr or to install a rom from zip file but neither of these work - reboots again to Samsung logo in black background after apparently installing the rom.
both teamwin and cwr mention that they can't mount system and that's probably why no rom is install either using cwr or odin so my guess is that I have to reformat the partitions cause probably efs file is corrupt but I don't know how to do that and I have done extensive search in google but have not found a solution
so ciphercodes if you or anyone reading this can help please reply to this message

I am uncertain of which version the phone was on. If you need I can call t-mobile and have them tell me which version it was on.
I did these steps. the file took a hour to download. and It still didn't work. I follow all steps down to the exact. and when I pressed start. within one second it said FAIL. just the other attempts I made.

Unless your t889 Note II was sitting in a drawer and not being updated for the last year or so you probably have 4.3
When you go to download mode do you see "custom binary download: yes ..."
and do you see "knox warranty void:" ?
if so, your phone has been rooted.
but unlike your case, when I try to install stock rom through Odin, it goes through the motions of installing and gives message pass - that is that the stock rom has been installed, but unfortunately it has not installed any rom that my phone can read.

Since your phone is not rooted then I think that ciphercodes advice will not work as you can only install a stock rom that way only if your phone is first rooted.
Probably you should try to root your phone using instructions from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562994
But this might not work for you as it could be that efs file is corrupted or something else as we both boot up to a black screen that only has Samsung logo

Since your phone is not rooted you may be able to get it repaired under warranty. I think that Samsung warranty is only good for a year, but if you purchased your phone with a American Express gold card (I think other gold cards will also apply) your warranty is extended to double what the original was. So perhaps you have a chance to have your credit card pay for the repair.
Otherwise:
I am no expert but if you want to continue playing with your phone before you get expert advice you may want to play with the recovery mode. To enter recovery mode press volume up and home and power buttons at the same time. once you feel vibrate or after a while release the power button but continue to hold volume up and home buttons and then you will enter recovery mode. you may want to go to menu that says wipe data/factory reset and see if that works. It may be that it is like my phone and the system cannot be mounted in which case you will get that message. After you are through to get out of this menu remove the battery.
But please be aware that I am no expert and you are using this info at your own risk
but I think of doing something catastrophic using this advice in my non expert opinion is small.

Yeah the warranty is expired. and I have tried recovery mode. thats actually the first step before trying to apply a firmware. So recovery hasnt worked either. Guess I will just have to get a new phone. thank you all for oyu help tho. I apperciate it
I was just reading through the thread.. It doesnt seem like you tried flashing Tmobiles Stock 4.3 Firmware in download mode. If you tried to flash a 4.1.2 Firmware when the phone was already updated then I think thats where it failed. Try again but with the 4.3 Firmware through ODIN. After it finishes try rebooting it manually and/or if it doesnt boot again then go back into recovery and factory/data reset again...shouldnt hurt to try..

[Q] After boot and samsung logo black screen. S3 SGH-I747M Kodoo Canada

I was told to put this question on this forum and I'm really hoping someone can help. My phone is in perfect condition and it would be a shame to have to throw it out:
I'm out of Ideas, please help me.
Here is my info:
Samsung galaxy s3 sgh-i747m from kodoo Canada. I had installed cyanogenmod through their installer over a year ago. I have been using it with my rogers sim with no problems. Less than 2 weeks ago my screen randomly goes black. I try pulling the battery. The samsung logo appears but then back to black but I can hear everything is working. I Try and boot into recovery and everything is black. I boot into download mode and everything looks fine. I try reinstalling cyanogenmod and then Samsung stock through kies and smart switch and every stock kodoo file I can find .
There is one of two things that happen.
If I install a stock below 4.4.2 I get fail in Odin 3.07 and this on download mode:
Odin Mode
Product Name: SGH-I747M
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
Qualcomm secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
Bootloader AP SWREV: 2
SW REV Check Fail : Fused 2 Binary 1
If I install a stock rom with 4.4.2 or install from Smart Switch
Everything proceeds perfectly but upon reset I see the samsung logo and then nothing just a black screen with the chime in the background. Still can't boot into recovery. I only see the recovery in blue in the upper left corner but then nothing. I believe after all I've tried I must be on 4.4.2
I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me.
Probably a dumb question on my part but what is "smart switch"?
You can't install any ROM below KK if the phone had stock KK installed on a prior occasion.
I think smart switch is like a newer lighter kies but I could be wrong.
I'm not sure but I don't think I had stock kit kat installed, I think it might have been Jellybean. Is there any way to know for sure? The problem is through odin I would always get fail if I tried any stock rom below 4.4.2.
Odin is the best way to flash the phone with a stock ROM.
I have never used Kies so I can't comment on its effectiveness in restoring a phone.
What error are you getting in Odin when flashing an older ROM than Kit Kat?
What bootloader is on your phone? Have you tried flashing KK via Odin 3.07?
The error I get in Odin is just a red Fail after aboot and on my phone screen it says at the bottom SW REV CHECK FAIL: Fused 2 Binary 1. As for the bootloader, how do I find what my bootloader is?
Odin is failing because you are trying to flash a rom that is trying to downgrade the phone's current bootloader. The fact that the phone has a tripped the warranty bit indicates that it has at least a 4.3 bootloader and cannot be flashed with 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, maybe not even 4.3.
Install the Samsung phone info app from the play store to determine the bootloader. You could also try flashing the stock fob firmware via Odin.
I can't install the samsung info app because I cannot see anything on my screen after the samsung logo. Also I'm not sure what fob is but I tried all of these files with odin 3.07 and none of them brought my screen back to life. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I747M/KDO/
Okay, try this:
download tar version of TWRP from here: https://dl.twrp.me/d2att/
download the latest CM11 for the d2lte and save it to an external sd card;
download CM11 gapps and save it to the external sd card with CM11;
place the sd card into the phone;
download Odin version 3.07;
boot the phone into download mode;
launch Odin and connect phone via USB cable;
uncheck everything in Odin except F.reset time;
flash TWRP in Odin;
when you see the word reset in the Odin status window, disconnect the USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, boot into TWRP, flash CM11, flash gapps;
reboot phone;
install Sansung info app.
So I did everything you listed and when I attempt to reboot into recovery, I see the samsung logo appear with a blue "recovery booting" in the top left corner of the screen. They stay on for maybe 1 second and then the screen is black. I'm starting to give up hope
Did you pull the battery after seeing the word "Reset" in the status window? Did you try flashing TWRP again?

Yes I pulled and replaced the battery. Booting into twrp is still home, power and volume up at the same time, right? That's what I did but nothing.
So you see nothing on the screen after pressing the buttons? Try flashing cwm.

Yes nothing. After flashing TWRP Twice and removing and replacing battery. I boot into recovery. I see the samsung logo with recovery booting in small and blue in the top left corner and then immediately to complete black. I also tried with CWM and the same result.
Can you boot into recovery after flashing stock kit kat via Odin?
If not, it sounds like something may be wrong with the hardware.

NEED HELP! GT-I9190 Hard bricked, currently stuck in a bootloop

Hello! this is my first thread on this forum, which im making because I ran out of options, and don't know what to do...
It looked like my Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I9190) died last weekend (april 29) I was watching a video on youtube and suddendly it ''ran out of memory'' (the screen froze) and it turned completely black, the audio was still playing and I decided to force it to shut down (holding the power buttom)
The audio stopped, and I tried to boot it back but it wouldn't answer at all, so I removed the battery, put it back on, still nothing after many attempts (also trying download mode and recovery mode, none of them worked).
So I decided to plug it into the computer, and that's how I found it wasn't ''completely dead''
My computer detected the device as ''QHSUSB_DLOAD'' which was a good sign, meaning I wouldn't have to put my s4 mini to sleep forever.
So after some research, coming across people using 300 kohm resistors to force a bricked phone to dl mode, people using weird hardwares, Jtags and whatnot (all of these methods involved extra hardware) I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2625628 and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660566
The .img in the scard method, links up there.
So I gave it a try and guess what, it actually worked, my phone actually responded after placing back the sdcard and the battery, I didn't even had to press the power buttom.
My phone booted, but displaying this screen:
Boot recovery mode
Check boot partitions
Copy from T-Flash
Boot recovery. .
Write 139008 sectors. .
Flash write failure
Ddi : mmc_read dailed
ODIN MODE

after this point, It wouldn't go further
I tried download mode at least 10 times, I't didn't work, the phone booted back to that screen again.
So I switched the vol- for vol+ to see what happen (I was doing download mode: power vol- and home)
And It worked, my phone went to the ''Galaxy S4 mini GT-I9190'' Screen, the first screen you see when it actually boots.
but after this point, It bootlooped turning off and back on to this screen and so.
when the phone turned off, I tried download mode once again and IT FINALLY WORKED.
At this point I believed that everything was over, I would connect it into odin a flash a stock firmware.
But it just started... (here comes the interesting part)
I tried to flash a stock firmware with odin, yeah, the blue progress bar and everything, my phone rebooted, but nothing, the same bootloop again. Here comes an important question: Do I need to flash a specific region firmware? or any region should work? First, I flashed an argentina region firmware (ARO was the code), results: Bootloop
After that, I tried the Russian firmware (I dont know if the region of my phone is Rusia, but I believe so because after doing a factory reset, the default language was russian, please answer this as well) and BOOTLOOP again...
So basically, The main problem is a bootloop, but I dont know what is causing this
After this point, I'm stuck, and not knowing what to try...
I'm looking for answers, what should I do? what can I try?
If you can answer any of these questions please do it...
Do I need a specific region firmware? (I already tried argentina(ARO), and Rusia (SR)) oh yeah, I tried Rusia SR, should I try XE? XE seems to be a multi-region format (?) I don't have a clue actually... I really need the opinion of someone who knows about this
If the default language when doing a factory reset is russian, this means my phone's region is Rusia?
Is there a way to know the region of my phone, when hard bricked? I dont have the box, manuals, nothing...
What was that weird screen my phoned displayed after booting with the .img sdcard? (read the quotes higher in this post)
Is there a posibility that the bootloader is corrupted, and is causing the bootloop?
I want to try everything before a JTAG service, what are these hardwares? What do they do?
Oh here is an important question:
I read that the baseband of unbrick.img has to match the baseband of my phone... is this completely true? if so, what can I do? where can I get a specific baseband .img file, and what can I do since I already used another .img (I dont know if the baseband was the same) and im already stuck on a bootloop? If a use a correct baseband .img file will the phone stop the bootloop?
Im looking forward to see your posts...
If you need any aditional information feel free to ask...
If you don't have a clue, just like me, please send this thread link to someone who could help...
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Also recovery mode NOT working, when trying to enter this mode, the galaxy s4 mini gti9190 screen displays ''entering recovery mode'' on the upper left screen, and after that it turns off and the bootloop continues
Still with the same problem and i cannot flash any Recovery like CWM or TWRP, cuz it does Pit File partition table error
Try a NAND-Erase, I dont suggest it but it could fix your problem. Goodluck

AT&T SGH-I317 Bricked. Still a way to erase phone to sell for parts safely?

Ultimate question: Is my data erased, so that I can securely sell my phone for parts without fear of data theft?
I suspect my AT&T SGH-I317 Galaxy Note II has dead/corrupted/broken emmc. It will ONLY go into download mode. No recovery mode and no bootup. Just sits on the Galaxy Note II logo screen forever. If that is the case, I need a new phone as I do not have the patience/skillset to replace the motherboard and/or emmc.
I have searched the vastness of the internet but I can't find a working answer. Anyway, let me tell you how it all began. This is a long post, so put on your reading glasses and grab a soda pop.
My AT&T SGH-I317 Galaxy Note II phone had never been tampered with. It was legit stock. I updated my phone through the phone's "check for software updates" under the device info menu. After that, I began to have problems. Let me describe those to you:
Problem #1: The phone would not come on when pushing the power button, after falling asleep. This happened randomly and not all the time. The only way to "wake it up" was to take the battery out, put it back in, and turn the phone on. I had to do this several times a day.
Problem #2: The phone would try and "reboot" randomly. The LED notification light would fade in and out for hours, but the phone would not come on. Eventually, it would boot up. This would happen several times a day.
I read up on the subject and I found that the updated files might have been corrupted, so I did a factory reset. That did NOT work.
Steps I tried:
#1: Factory reset
#2: Wipe cache
#3: Factory reset AND wipe cache.
#4: Changing the battery
These steps did not work. SOOOO, I downloaded Odin and tried to reinstall stock ROM. I kept getting an "Invalid magic string."
Downloaded the PIT file and the first version of software, which was KitKat or something and that WORKED! MY PHONE LIVED.
Then I tried to update my phone via AT&T again. Oops?
When you push the power button, the phone LED flashed red BRIEFLY (nanoseconds) and will not go past the black screen that just says "Samsung Galaxy Note II". I tried Odin again with the stock software, but this did not work.
Volume Up + Home + Power button DOES NOT WORK. Will NOT go past Note II logo screen.
Volume Down + Home + Power DOES work and tried to reinstall with and without the PIT file, but it will not go past the Galaxy Note II screen.
Steps I tried:
#1: Factory reset
#2: Wipe cache
#3: Factory reset AND wipe cache.
#4: Changing the battery
#5: Odin
KIES_HOME_I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4_578342_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 -> INVALID MAGIC STRING
#6: Odin Again
KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar -> INVALID MAGIC STRING
#7: Odin Again
KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar -> WITH PIT FILE -> SUCCESS
#8: AT&T Update -> Phone will not get passed the Galaxy Note II logo, will not go into recovery mode, but will go into download mode.
#9: Odin Again
KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar -> Passed, but will not work, same issues as before.
#9: Odin Again
KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar -> WITH PIT FILE -> Passed, but will not work, same issues as before.
#10: Odin Again
cwm6-recovery-i317.tar.md5 -> Passed, but will not work, same issues as before.

Flashing the ROM from sammobile.com may be the problem because you wind up running a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 ROM on a 4.3 or newer bootloader.
Have you tried flashing TWRP, booting into TWRP to wipe cache, data, system, and then flash a custom ROM?

Yes, it was successful. The green PASS! showed up. I used the tar version of TWRP.
Try this: open Odin, uncheck everyhing except f reset time. Flash TWRP, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the USB cable from the phone, remove battery, replace battery, use buttons to boot into recovery.

Followed step by step. The phone still will not go into recovery mode. It will only display "Samsung Galaxy Note II" screen. :crying:
In that case, it sounds like the memory chip is damaged.

That is what I figured. Is there any data intact that could be stolen if I sell the phone for parts?
I highly doubt that data can be recovered without an expensive data recovery service.
You could certainly sell the phone without the motherboard as the screens are very expensive.
