Always-On display mod suggestions - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and

I think the always on display has room for improvement. It already has a notification display if you miss a call or if you miss a text, but it would be helpful if it also had icons for missed skype messages, gmail, e-mail, etc. Another helpful mod idea would be to show the navigation status such as: turn left in 3 miles. It would be helpful for people, like me, riding my motorcycle trying to preserve as much battery as possible.
Anyway, post your ideas/suggestions for mods and hopefully somebody on here can help make them!

To maybe be able display the music player on there as well if we're hearing music that way we can pause and skip songs.

Record my dreams

Hi, i'm searching for an app to record my dreaming's words. I would like it to record only when someone talks, is there any chance to find something useful to me?
haha i know what you mean! a voice recorder activated by voice so we dont have 6 hours of audio to look through
The only thing I could find while sniffing around was an app that does sound triggered recording, but only by dialing your voicemail number and recording it to that.
Sounds like a simple enough app to write though, perhaps there's a sympathetic Dev out there that could knock up an app for you.
Lol nice idea is there anythin out there like this? Please let us know if ya can find somethin worth to try

I know what you mean.
My mother will telling me that I can answer her questions when I am asleep, but I can never remember doing that.
What you could do is just use a recorder, and record everything during your sleep. Then copy that sound file to your PC and use cool edit to open it, and look through the sound waves. When you see some big spikes on the waves go to them and see if youre saying anything. Might be kinda creepy though, who knows what kind of sounds you'll pick up lol
RL Watcher , it's in the Market.
That said, not too sure if the microphone is going to be good enough (Thanks to Samsungs settings, background sound is noisy!).
Maybe you should change your Title a bit to attract attention. You are looking at an app that can switch on the voice recording when the decibel level increases beyond pre-defined level.
Any ideas?
PS : This can be helpful in a lot of other situations too. You just need to know the minimum decibel level.
Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.
I can access your mind through your dreams using my Android.
I have done a little RnD and made a little progress.
Whenever there is a sound a number is incremented per second of sound.
It works with my galaxy S mic very well.
THERE IS NO INTERFACE AT ALL
I want you to test it.
There is no fear of any harm.
The screen stays on as long as the app is active.
But as you may or may not know a black screen on the SGS is an off screen.
The way to work the app is
Install the app.
Set the phone down on your table/nightstand.
Open the app
Don't click anything
Go to sleep (you don't really need to sleep just speak in intervals in a moderately quiet room/simulate your bed room/simulate your sleep voice)
Hopefully make noise in your sleep. Not very loud noise is needed.
Wake up
Press the menu key...you may have to wait a fraction of a sec.
A notification will give you 2 numbers.
Tell me those numbers.(You can round off NO 2 if you want to)
If first number is > 1 then you are successful else not successful.
EXIT THE APP WITH THE BACK BUTTON
If you exit with another way then you may have to restart the phone to get your mic working fine again(stupid mic implementation of mic on SGS).
Test it and tell me how it goes.

I don't know about that for now.
The app is still in its alpha stage.
We can keep it in a proposed list of features.
Right now the app only lists number of seconds you have been making noise.
The SGS has a weird implementation of AudioRecoding
I am still going through the docs.
Once I manage to implement the recorder, more features will be added.
Please reply with the values you are getting from the app.
Thanks
Gonna test the app now

Custom system sounds

I'm newly rooted and looking to customize my sounds a bit. I've been experimenting with different "effect tick" sounds, the audible selection sound. I would like to try out the windows phone 7 typing sound. Any idea where I can get my hands on those files, or other similar sounds I might be able to try out?
i am interested in this as well, I used to have an iPhone and the messaging tones while in thread (the in and out swoosh sounds) and when sending emails, was a nice little touch that ive missed on all of the other phones Ive had. Also some type of suttle sound while confirming things would be nice...
Keeping my eye in this...im interested as well

Hey guys, try the ZEDGE app. I've downloaded a new notification sound as well as a cool Gmail notification which you can change in your Gmail home page under menu, more, settings. I use this all the time. As far as changinging actual system sounds such as the little click sound you you touch on something I dont know.

To do it, you need to be rooted and go into a root explorer (I use Super Manager) and go to system/media/audio/ui. The sound file you want has to be named "Effect_Tick.ogg" and you just copy it in there in place of the existing one.
My question though is where to find the specific sound I want, which is the Windows Phone 7 typing sounds. They are nice and soft and pleasant! If anyone here has a windows phone, I wonder if it's possible for them to upload the sound here...

[MOD] Audio Tweaks (Including Silent Camera)

Audio Modifications
DISCLAIMER:
I am not responsible for problems you may incur.
Please do some research if you are a first timer.
Only you can choose to use this software.
By downloading you agree to these terms.WHAT THIS TWEAK DOES:
This flash-able Volume-tweak.zip includes both mods simultaneously.
1) Silent Camera!
Volume.db
Replacing the existing volume.db file, the one I'm including disables all shutter sounds (which I may change to one of the shutter sounds), autofocus sounds, and other obnoxious camera tones. I understand that Samsung's idea is to make people aware that others may be photographing them, privacy stuff and all, but let's be honest shall we? Creepers are going to creep one way or another, and the autofocus 'beep' disturbs the baby and makes the dog bark! It also disables the boot sound. Best part of this tweak, it doesn't even touch the actual camera apk!
2) Volume Enhancing!
default_gain.conf
The next is a mod adapted from the developer Meltus. You may know him for other awesome volume modifications, but this one he made for the GSIII international. This should make the phone overall louder in all respects. I have, however, adjusted it from his original settings to keep the volume from reaching 'crackling' volumes and possibly damaging the speakers. This level sounds loud and still sounds good. :good:

It's brilliantly simple. Most android phones come with these settings ingrained into the kernel, but Samsung has left them out. In theory, one could make these adjustments from on the phone itself, if you can open a .db file. Very simple, nothing that can break a phone. Just be careful not to blow out your speaker or your ears.
Sweet, Camera sounds really annoys me.

Sweet! :highfive:
As an addendum, this tweak is even neater because it disables the camera noises on a system level. I've seen a supposed higher-resolution camcording camera apk floating around that 'supposedly' disables camera noises as well... but it doesn't matter if it does because this tweak stays in effect. I don't believe this will affect other camera apps... but any Samsung camera variant should be muted.
Random you rock. Great to see you here. Your OG epic stuff was awesome. Thanks for the sound free camera!

For the sound boost (using the international tweak) you used the config file, correct?
That file does not, by default, exist on our US variants. I've personally included the tweak in my ROM over on T-Mobile. I've had a person or two say it made no difference. Me personally, I thought it was louder then hell (changed speaker boost from 0 to 40 and headphones from 0 to 25). If I put the volume on the lowest possible setting, its very audible still. With my headphones, I put it on three ticks and it was loud. Putting it up fully made me feel like my eardrums were going to pop.
What are your feelings on the tweaks? Do you think they actually work? Considering the config file doesn't exist by default, do you think they're actually pointed to in our system to be used?

I too noticed that the file isn't there, and was momentarily skeptical. But as the base coding is likely fundamentally identical, I thought I'd give it a chance. It's hard to fully test while at work... but I can hear my mp3 alarms quite clearly now. I had made a thread days ago regarding how my songs play fine in the player, but at half volume as alarms. The alarm was much much louder! And I generally have a fairly discerning ear.
That said, I now have to experiment the individual settings I think.

I agree the coding is likely identical. My skepticism comes more from the fact that the file doesn't exist by default. If it doesn't exist, and we add it, does anything in our system actually point to the config file in order for it to actually take effect?
Regardless, I'm pretty positive it works. I just was hoping someone had a better understanding of how it works and if it's actually pointed to.
When you play around with it, mind PMing me your results? I'm curious what you get.
For one, change the headphone settings and try with your headphones plugged in. I think they're extremely loud with the boost set to 25..

Certainly. If different values draw drastically different effects... I'll probably be making a "Louder but comfortable" version and an "Extremely loud, hearing damage may ensue" version. :good:

Things you don't like in GS4

Well lets duscuss.
Personally I do not like that using NOVA launcher instead of Touchwiz doesn't allow to get transparent status bar.
It could be NOVA issue, but developer responded me that "Unfortunately the status bar is a function of the system software/rom and cannot be changed by a launcher"
BTW stock Touchwiz has awesome transparent status bar.
Also I do not like new Settings organization in groups. Before if was much more convenient.

the transparent status bar is coded in a way that it's part of the SecLauncher. this is the same for the wallpapers. if you use a non-stock wallpaper, it won't be transparent up there even if you are using the stock TW Launcher SecLauncher. my first mod for the phone will be with the SecLauncher to improve it so more will like using it. later i will just mod the SysUI for those that want a transparent status bar while using a 3rd party launcher.
in regards to Settings grouping, there may be a firmware update later that will allow you to change it back to non-grouping. was it LG that did something similar with their Optimus G line? they had this option to change from day 1 so i don't see why Samsung wouldn't enable it in a firmware. however it's possible that they never allow this. but i'm with you on that. i had to look for things longer than normal on my bro's phone because of this.
Sound quality when listening to music... is absolutely horrible. Spent a few months with an iPhone 5 and got used to awesome sound quality. Decided that I ultimately couldn't stand the limitations so I switched back to Android. Only to realize that, as a music lover, sound quality means a lot. And this device needs some serious tweaking.
I tried the Equalizer app from the Play Store. Still has a lot of crackling and popping in the background when playing music via Play Music.
If anyone knows an equalizer app that works flawlessly on this device please let me know. Otherwise I'm stuck waiting for CyanogenMod and their awesome EQ.

It looks like someone did it with Samsung source last year.... First time I've heard of it in a tw rom....
Anyone else dumbfounded by this being set so low? This was the reason I started running aosp roms on my EVO 4G.... And kept with them on my Galaxy SII.
Why isn't this more important to people? Music sounds like poop over bluetooth.

I just made the changes, but haven't been out to my car yet. Hoping for the best, but honestly, not expecting much. What do these changes do? I'm gonna google it, but....I'm asking here too.
You're welcome ^^
From what I googled: it reroute your audio stream through main CPU instead of special DFX introduced in JB+, the Low Power Audio decoder -lpa.decode- (thus increase in batt usage like playing music in pre-JB Android)...
I would be glad if it works for you as well ad solve your problem ^^

I was super excited, but ...it didn't work. Highs still sound like poop. It's hard to tell sometimes, but, when my random playlist hit In The Mall by Weezer, it became very obvious that it still sucked.
the cymbols in that song are pretty isolated, and that's where you can hear the static compression. just sounds terrible to me...and i'm far from an audiophile...
Thanks for responding though!
Ah yes, its still suck but better than using LPA Decoder...
Still have to find a way to make it at least listenable....
I'm an audiophile... And this problem made me crazy...
Some says that its intentional by Sammy, coz Sammy use APT-X protocol for streaming music (maybe its their marketing strategy to make ppl switch to Samsung Level headset/APT-X compatible headset?).
