Hey everybody, as my first forum I just purchased a Nexus 5x. I came from an iPhone 6s, and I'm monitoring my SOT. my battery has gone through 3 cycles or so and it's always dying at 2 hours or so of screen time. Can never get over 3 hours. Is this normal? I purchased it used, so is the battery damaged? Or will properly charging it for some tine bring my batteries health back up and make it last longer?
Im currently at 11%, and I have 2 hrs 17 minutes of SOT of normal usage no games, noyoutube, just social networking and photos . I FEEL like its too low. What do you guys think?

Search betterbatterystats here at xda and read up how to take a log.

I have a Pebble too and it does contribute to battery usage especially if you're receiving lots of notifications like text.

i had been getting only 1.5-2.5 SoT but yesterday I somehow achieved 4h, which is the best I've ever gotten.
This may be related to the fact that it was the weekend (so I had better reception than at work), but still was way more than recently.
that being said, my idle drain is still less than ideal, at 3-4%/hr, and the phone only lasted from 6AM to 8PM

So I 've been wanting to really test how long my battery could go with minimal use.
This included...
about 45 minutes of 3G tethering
and about 13 hours on 3G. 4G was disabled the whole entire time
As you can see it was idle a lot, but I almost got 2 full days on stock battery. So no complaints.
Part of me feels like if it was not for that 3G tethering maybe I could have got 4 more hours+
Not bad indeed.
Would rather use my phone and have to charge when I get home then leave it in my pocket all day.
Also your wifi was toggled on the whole time... that would have saved some battery.

That sounds pretty dire....are you running at full brightness with Wifi and bluetooth and the GPS on (happens e.g. if you enable GPS for apps and then open Facebook) and no screen timeout while running the camera?
I've had an hour of screen time, and about 9 hours of screen off; I've not had it on to charge at all today, and I'm at 60% battery.
If you go into settings/battery, what else is keeping your phone awake? In other threads, people suggest installing 'Better Battery Stats' (nb, cheap, not free) and posting screen shots of the kernel/partial wakelocks. I can't interpret them myself, but others can...

The only complaint I have with this phone is the massive difference between hspa and lte versions in battery life. Other than the razr maxx no late phone has acceptable battery life including the nexus. To get 5-6.5 hours screen time on my nexus versus friends 2.5-3 on an lte version is just crummy. I know some people just have extra batteries but that short of usable battery life is just too much of a hassle for me when I'm out and about. I would be forced to get a huge ugly seidio battery if I needed to move to Verizon. Even with 4g disabled the Verizon/sprint versions don't get the screen time I get with my hspa nexus. I really hope lte radios get more efficient and battery tech gets better. Removable or not, all phones can be made as sleek with a huge battery if manufacturers wanted. The maxx is proof of that.

I am giving my machine a hard time every day. Usually it ****s up after something like 4 hours. That is much better than the old machine I had. However, it is not good enough cause I work for 8 hours. So after the midday break in the canteen there is no more angry birds for me. Lol, how's this for on screen time on a stock battery? I just managed to get the screens before I had to charge it up, It's the longest I've gotten with my ROM and kernel combo. Last screen shows it's the ~1800 mAh battery, the third line down reads 35/1750 mAh.
*Edit* Hold the phone, 1400 mAh is stock, right? My 'stock' battery is 1750mAh... How does that work?

Is everyone else getting strange battery drops? When the battery is at 19%, it drops directly to 15%, without going through 18,17,16. Is this happening to you or is my battery screwed up? It's been doing it for weeks now so I don't think it's about lack of battery training
This is with a genuine 2000mah extended battery, minimal use over a long weekend. I had also conditioned the battery by fully charging and discharging about 5 times when the battery was new.

No. Something is wrong on your end. Check for any apps running the background that shouldn't be running at all.

Open the battery utility to see what is consuming the highest percentage of power.
The display is one of the biggest power consumers. What level is your brightness at? The new N7 can achieve almost 600 nits. That is ridiculously high. The ipad 3/4 and Mini max out around 400 nits. I've found 200 to be a good compromise between battery life and ease on the eyes.
I have. I even factory restored. The standby time is great but once I start using it the battery just drains like that
I would let the device die completely and charge it up to 100% and use it intensely for a bit and track it. My experience with Android is to let the first few cycles of battery settle in the kernel and all that. Sometimes Unix takes a few days to get acquainted with it's space in my experience.

I got battery issues as well only 5 hours of on screen time........ You can get "Better battery stats" free from Xda, but I can tell you I've checked and nothing is running in the background, deep sleep is good but it dies after about 5 hours of using it. Most of the battery issues I've seen have all had the 5 hour screen on time problem, I don't know I just find that really weird but oh well
I'm also getting average of 5hrs screen on time. Nothing is draining the battery as far as I can tell. Today for instance I took it off the charger and went out. 7hrs later it had 96% with 6 minutes on screen time. It's at 13hrs on with 5 hrs on screen time mostly chrome, Twitter, instagram, Google+, quick games of words with friends and draw something 2 five minutes each game max if that. I would kill for anything close to 7hrs let alone 9hrs. Also the touch sensitivity goes bonkers often with my Nexus registering touches pretty far from where my finger is. I think I might just try and exchange it. Brightness at 20% maybe.

Is it a defective product or it's a software issue? Maybe i should return it for a new one

Battery Test
I pulled my new N7 off the charger thsi morning and decided to test the battery because it seemed to be draining too quickly for my taste. I streamed two movies, Star Trek (2009) from Google Play and The Apostle from Showtime Anytime. that is only 4 hours and 20 minutes of movies. My tablet died before the Apostle finished. Had about 20 minutes left on it.
I am not satisfied with this paltry battery life. Google website said it would run 9 hours of movies non stop. 4 hours isn't even close. There are several "comparisons" out there but they only compare what the company said. I am not sure the battery is all it is cracked up to be. I am going to do some further testing but right now it looks like I will forego the New Nexus 7 and pick up a Kindle Fire HD. That battery life does last for hours and for what I need it will suit me fine.
I welcome your comments.

Not sure if this was a question or statement.. If your not rooted, root it immediately, then remove whatever bloat you have. I would also greenify everything, and that should give you much better battery life. I went from stock rooted barely getting 3 hours, to almost 6 hours after I rooted.
Try out lux for your screen auto dimming and juice defender or green power to help out.
Battery is comparable with Note 3 if you managed to disable sync when not in use. Mine can usually last one day without changing battery.

Itchy. Tasty.
I just had to, sorry.
I wouldn't say battery life sucks but it is definitely not what I expected. It lasts me all day without boosting, but I can't go without charging overnight, unlike my OPO. I charge my OPO every other day. The G3 must be charged every night. Not a big deal, because I am used to charging my phone every night while I sleep. But considering the G3 and OPO are essentially the same phone except for the 1440p display, that shows what the G3 battery life could have been if LG had gone with 1080p.
Battery sucks doesn't really present much of a platform for helping you. I get all day usage from my phone on a single charge over night, that's all I ask from a phone. Screen time will vary from just shy of 4hrs to my best of 6hrs. I have 2 email that sync, web browsing, bt all day with my gear, calling and texting with minimal gps usage and turn on and off gps and Wi-Fi as I need.
Post some screen shots and let us know your usage habits, are you stock or have you rooted, what apps you use frequently and what you are doing to conserve battery life. With that information perhaps we could help out some. I will also second greenify. It does help.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 3 before depleting the battery.

SOT really depends on usage, and whilst I was one like many here that is obsessed with SOT, I've started to just use phones without really worrying about it. Plus Dash charge is a great addition (aside from having to carry the charger with you).

I bought it on the launch day and conducted the test the next day after a full cycle. At precisely 5 pm I unplugged the device, at 100%, Connected to wifi with brightness at 25%, with auto brightness off. The phone was at 3% the next day at 4 pm. I got about 5 hours and 15 minutes of screen on time, moderately heavy usage, the phone only lost 6% overnight. Made 15 minutes worth of phone calls, light gaming, lots of browsing and video watching. And some apps with location as well. GSam battery monitor.
There is a free version and a paid version, not sure which one this is but it'll get you close: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm

I don't like gsam because it doesn't read the SOT from the system. It records it's own stats.
GSam battery monitor allows you to see the stock android battery stats and screen on time from there by going to the menu on the bottom right, clicking more and then Battery Use - Built In. If there is an easier way to get to stock android battery stats, I'd love to know.

"BetterBatteryStats is calling the "batteryinfo" service of Android to retrieve data already lying there without generating overhead" and no it doesn't need root

This is exactly what I want. Sweet!
My first not-at-home day, I averaged just under 5hrs SOT in a 14 hour day.

One of the better SOT phones I've owned since coming from smaller 4.5 inch screens. I easily get 4 hours on a long day (16 -18 hours off the charger). I watched 2.5 hour movie the other day and did some more stuff. In 8 hours, I had over 5 hours of SOT with 47% battery left.

What settings do you guys have setup? My battery is down to 27% after only 8.5 hours off the charger and not much video watching. How do you have your phone setup concerning gestures and everything? I use the fingerprint unlock and the double tap feature and so far I am not impressed with the battery.
What settings are you using? I'm barely getting10hrs of battery

Nothing special, really? It's basically stock, I just disabled some stock apps: Browser, calendar, stock email, Gmail, Hangouts, and stock messaging. Everything else is left alone.... I even installed the actual Facebook app (aka: battery eater) for the first time in a few years, since my battery can keep up now.

You either have very bad wakelocks or you've got a LOT of screen on time.

No screen on time. I am in an area where I get no service and was using WiFi, so today I turned on Airplane mode and then WiFi and it seems to work a lot better. though I still need to investigate is battery drain is bad when using the phone in normal service area.

Sounds like wakelocks to me
This is the best phone I've owned in terms of battery life. With nova launcher and using nova's battery widget I can see my SOT. I average 5:30 which is alot for me. I have gotten as much as 6:40! This is all usually over 12-28 hrs. The phone is just phenomenal, just wish the camera was better.

I would believe it. I got about 5 hours in my last run. What I think ate up about 20% was listening to music through the speakers.. The phone drained faster than normal Witt the speakers on at max volume.. Which makes sense and is 5000% tolerable because how amazing they sound.
Furthermore, if I could get some stronger cell phone signal, that would help with screen on time too. I never have no signal, but I never see over two bars of signal either.
Sorry about double post.. Forgot to include second one..
Ok, I thought this was a battery beast but I think I was wrong. I don't expect any phone's battery indicator to be totally accurate but I've noticed that if I top the A7 up a little the battery doesn't drain *at all* for a long time. I've been letting it go down to 30% then topping it up to 40% where it stays without moving even while I'm streaming music and surfing for half an hour. Fishy.
I thought that as I was on about 3:30 sot at 40% I'd let it go down further to see if it would reach 5 hours. Three charging cycles in a row the phone has hit 19% and then reported that it's empty and shut down.
