HTC One M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone help point me in the right direction or tell me if I am going up a blind avenue.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a new HTC One m8 off ebay (Hong Kong). The phone arrived and I was able to update it to android 6 via a manual update file on the USA website. This went well so I bought another one for my wife, however, that failed to update. I contacted HTC usa and they advised that the second phone was designed for use in Canada on the Rogers network and would only update in Canada.
The phone reports itself as Android Version 4.4.4. Software 3.28.401.6.
I am in the UK.
I am able to get to the stock recovery screen and believe I need an RUU file to take me to android 6 - can anyone help ?

If you got this from the phone's Settings, it can be misleading. In fact, that software number would indicate the Euro version, not Rogers (so may have a custom ROM installed).
Does it have an OS number indicated on the bootloader screen?
If you know how, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
I don't think Rogers releases RUUs, so you may need to go another path.

Really appreciate the reply, I worked on this most of the night ... and ended up unlocking the phone and installing cyanogenmod 13 to see how that goes. I copied the stock ROM before installing so can always go back.
The price for buying the phone cheap on ebay !
Thank again Paul

[Q] How to find out what One M8 i purchased?

Hi guys! I purchased an HTC One M8 32GB from a guy that told me he got it from America. There is no carrier branding on the phone, how do I figure out what model I have? If it doesn't have any carrier branding on the back and is unlocked, it means i can flash roms for the global version? Thanks!

Nope, it definitely does not mean that. For instance, the Sprint (non-Harmon Kardon) version has no exterior carrier branding, and for the most part you do NOT want to flash GSM ROMs to this device (it also supports CDMA in addition to GSM).
With adb set up on your computer, run the command: adb getvar all
Post the getvar output, but be sure to delete the phone's IMEI and serial number (as those are personal data).

Error Code: Secure boot 1002 - What should I do? Please help

Dear XDA community
I recently bought a LG G4 from an online retailer. According to their website they said it was a UK model, which according to the back of the phone beneath the battery it is: LGH815. But then after booting the phone the ROM being used was: LGH815T. Then I typed in the IMEI number and found out it was a: Verizon US model??
Basically I am having trouble identifying my model. The phone apparently came unlocked and rooted, but the person who sent it must have done something wrong because when I flashed a TWRP recovery image to the phone it comes up saying: secure boot error code: 1002.
The good thing is, is that I can boot into the device and still operate it as per usual. But what I want to do is bring the recovery back to normal. I was searching around and apparently there are some KDZ files that can be used just to flash the recovery? Is this correct? If so could you assist me in what I have to do to fix my issue which is: secure boot error 1002.
I would really appreciate any help regarding the matter. :crying:
Tried posting photos, but forum would not let me, all they showed was the model numbers.

Use LGUP-NEW ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803 ) to install/flash ... the appropriate stock KDZ for your specific model once you ascertain it (LGUP - NEW may recognize your model and you can use that info to find the right KDZ). You will have to re-root the phone if you still wish to have root.
If you do root, suggest you might want to check out steadfasterX's [LOCKED][G4][TWRP][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP-in-FIsH for all locked G4 devices at: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/locked-twrpinfish-locked-g4-devices-t3573048
It has been tested on locked devices AND unlocked devices. Version 3 Beta 4 and 5 seem very stable and the links are available in the later posts on the site. It works like a charm and has been tested on a quite a number of devices now.
Addendum: I'm wondering if the online retailer may have meant it was carrier unlocked (i.e., so you could use other service provider's sim cards), not bootloader unlocked? That could account for the secure boot error getting TWRP to load.

Fake stolen or what??

I have been trying to check imei status online it showed another model of Htc one m9 which is Hima-UHL which dev edition instead of showing Hima-Whl which is Sprint, I dont know but i have already tried checking imei at Sprint website but it says It seems this device does not belong to US sprint carrier, although Once I've flashed Att firmware then ruu it was succesfully flashed except one thing the baseband and wifi wasnt working, then i've tried to flash the sprint radio image and the result was that it fixed only wifi issue, still sim wasnt detected, when i reverted back to sprint, its gone sim locked then i've used nv method to unlock it and back to everything the way it was, and then i checked imei on att website it said device is compatible but we are not able to find correct sim card
Still I'm confused so much what the **** im not understanding
Please help attachments included
Helps would be appreciated
P.S when on att rom it did not said phone is sim locked
If you want details from the phone boot to download mode, plug it into a pc and run fastboot getvar /all.
You identify the phone from its sku, cid and mid. Just because you flashed a sprint firmware and WiFi started working doesn't mean it used to be a sprint phone.. You also have to remember that it is very easy to change the region etc on htc phones.
The main concern is finding out if its a cdma or a gsm device.
Cid is super one
Mid is 0PJA2000
How to find skuid??
Flashing GSM firmware on a CDMA device or vice versa can result in unrecoverable hardware damages if you're unlucky. The partition layouts of CDMA devices are completely different and not compatible with the GSM ones. Even the layouts of the different CDMA versions (Sprint vs. Verizon) aren't compatible with each other.
Looking at CID, MID and SKU after the phone got converted won't help at all. Each time you convert the phone those values get changed. You won't be able to find out the original values by using fastboot getvar, at this point.
If you're lucky and no one ever tinkered with the hardware of the M9* then you should be able to find out the original MID by looking at the engraving on the backside of the phone. Be aware that the engraving lacks two zeros in comparison to the MID that you get from fastboot getvar. We would still need to guess the original CID and the original SKU but if you really own a CDMA phone that shouldn't be too hard.
* In other words: If no one replaced the back-plate at some point.
Btw, checking your IMEI online is everything else than fale safe. I wouldn't rely on the results. As long as the original hardware is unmodified, looking at the engraving is the best method for finding out which version of the M9 you own.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
ModelID on back plate is 0PJA200
Saying if it results in unrecoverable faults, how can i still flash gsm firmware on sprint??
And i bought this phone second hand, thing is My imei is not detected on official sprint website
And when i got that phone the CiD was SPCS_001
MID was same as 0PJA20000
Assuming that the back-plate didn't get changed, the engraving means that you own a Sprint M9.
As said in my last post, those online IMEI checks are [email protected] You get plenty of false results if you use them. You aren't the first M9 user here on xda that thought they own a GSM phone after checking its IMEI although in reality it's a CDMA device.
You or the previous owner set the phone S-OFF. That's how the ability to flash GSM RUUs got unlocked. S-OFF means in simple words that (almost) all of the phone's write-protection gets removed. Normally it would deny a GSM RUU due to the mismatching MID&CID. With S-OFF you can change them manually, though. Therefore, the phone more or less accepts everything you try to flash on it. No matter whether the file is compatible with the phone or not.
The emphasis in my warning lies on "can". It's a known fact that the partitions differ. The thing is that sometimes people that flash a wrong firmware are lucky and their phone doesn't get damaged and sometimes the broken sim detection and the lost Wi-Fi signal aren't recoverable even after flashing the original firmware of the phone.
Edit: Owners of an M9 are actually lucky, that HTC changed the partitions layout enough for making the phone still able to boot after flashing the wrong firmware. The M8 or any other model that is older than the M9 wouldn't boot, anymore, in that case and would become a fancy paperweight.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Ok thanks man <3
Definitely my fault should've got brand new model
@Saad Saleem
My choice of words for the explanation of S-OFF wasn't the best. If you didn't do so already, I'd like you to re-read my last post since it's overhauled, now.

Latest Software for -G710ULM?

Hello, I just bought a G710ULM off the bay and verified the model before purchase. I received it and the software verifies it's a G710ULM but a IMEI check shows it's a PM (Sprint). So the software is still on V10b with no updates coming. I'm thinking this is because the update checks the IMEI and sees it as a Sprint device even though the software says G710ULM. I see a version on LG's site for 11e, is that the latest version? Trying to figure out if I'd been duped. The seller is a MAJOR seller and I'm thinking they are getting these as new Sprint units and LG or someone is reflashing them. I might be all wrong but 2 different IMEI checkers say it's a Sprint.

G710ULM owner here on Project Fi, the latest version is M10g. Updated to it about a week ago. Your phone may just need some time, or you can try using the LG Bridge software on a computer to update the phone over USB. Otherwise, it may just be a carrier thing.
I tried Bridge but when I check for update it gives an error. Wondering, when you check you IMEI does it show up as a G710ULM ? thank you
I got the same problem, got it on ebay, In settings the model is G710ULM, but the real model is G710PM. I also try updating via LGBRIDGE i aslo get the same error. Trying to get a KDZ file but i just cant find one and i don't know if putting another region firmware would work. There's a youtuber that had sprint LG G6 and just changed the Firmware (used one from canada, it work and also UNLOCKED all bands for world wide use).
Same ebay phone Same issue here with no s/n showing hardware is fine unlocked running tmobile usa.. Signal seems bad. Never see 4glte icon only 4g , H, G. Hopefully we can flash to some other firmware to get lastest update.Right now running v10b-Lao-COM firmware i guess thats sprint rom

I did flash mine, had the ULM software with SECURITY PATCH MAY.... What i did is download ULM 10g file from website, used LG-UP to flash it, But first you have to create a DLL file for LG-UP for this to work, if not you going to a error on LG-UP when you hit START.

Yes, the G710ULM firmware 10g that's the project FI(I used another link, not the same you posted, but it should work). I was running the same firmware V10b-LAO-COM, The project FI, was the only one I could find (ULM), so that's why I decided to use that one and because I read on Google that those phones are unlocked. I don't have the steps, but I could make a post in a few hours. And also it's still unlocked, using it outside the US. (I got this one on eBay unlocked version, but it's Sprint).
Does it work with Sprint now? I have the same story - bought "unlocked" g7 on eBay, shows G710ULM in settings but IMEI shows as Sprint phone.. Was working on Tmobile but when I activated with Sprint it doesn't read the SIM.

Well I think it really depends on you, maybe you should return de device, if Sprint doesn't work.... On eBay it said "UNLOCKED". So if it does not work just return it... I am using the phone outside the US.

Apologies for replying to an old thread, but I have one of these modded sprint g7 that shows G710ULM.
Could someone be able to be kind enough to list out the steps used to manually upgrade the stock android 8 up to android 9 please?

eBay G7's - GSM unlocked, Sprint unlocked, unlocked - questions

I have purchased 3 G7's over past couple weeks, from the same seller (starts with "w", has a ton of phones). All of them were listed as G710ULM. Here is what I got:
1. One that was "grade B unlocked" came as model number LM-G710ULM, but with empty S/N. Android 8.0.
2. Second one was "grade A Sprint unlocked" came as model number LG-G710PM, has actual S/N, Android 9.0
3. Third one is same as #2.
I am assuming that #1 phone is also a PM model that wasn't unlocked properly.
With that being said, I wanted to make sure what my options are.
1. Can I properly unlock all 3 phones, so I can run updates on them? I plan to keep just 2 for now and #2 and #3 are in a bit better shape than #1.
2. I see a bunch of "GSM unlocked" ULM models that description mentions will not work for Sprint or Verizon. Is that really the case?
3. What other models are unlockable to be used on Sprint?
Thanks for help on this.
Anyone? I would appreciate some answers.
I got one as well, LG-G710ULM. Can not update via OTA (hence stuck on Android 8.0) since I am in the UK and according to LG UK support the IMEI corresponds to US carrier SP (Sprint they reckon). Kind of a bummer that you can not update your cell. Anyway, am also looking to update it, without jailbreaking it if possible.
Bump up this thread!
Its obvious those devices were just crossflashed with ulm software to gain unlock. That said, your best solution to getting an updated software will be to flash latest ulm firmware using lgup

OK, if you could clarify what G7 models can be flashed with ULM firmware, it would be great.
I am pretty sure I will return the "fake" ULM model and possibly keep the PM model - that's compatible with ULM firmware, correct?
What about ULM "GSM unlocked" models that per description don't work with Sprint?
Are there any other models that can be flashed with ULM too?
