I see there are several methods our there for unrooting and rooting the lg g3 but I noticed that they say only for lollipop or for kitkatt and lollipop. Does this matter if I'm currently on 6.0? Want to be sure before I do something critical and then regret it. What is the most up to date process you guys are using? I want to unroot and default back to the stock g3 rom to then reroot my device and flash a 6.0 custom rom completely fresh.
I used to use the following method but it started giving me issues. I then found out that it was because it was outdated.

Hi guys, I'm completely new here but were recommended the place if I want to root my Android device. I'm coming from an iPhone 5 which I unfortunately broke after a jailbreak, but I ended up with this LG G3 (16gb / 2gb ram). Though, I want stock Android 5.0 Lollipop on it, instead of the LG variant with Nova Launcher on top. I have taken backup of everything on my phone but I have no experience at all rooting Android, so will this be near impossible for me without breaking my phone?
Right now I'm reading the FAQ thread and see that I should ask in this forum. I also checked which version G3 I have, and it's a D855 bought in Europe. So I assume it's the D855 - 10A/B/C (Europe) one I got on this list.
I see all of the rooting software is usable with my device, so which one would be recommended for someone who is super new to this?
Reading this thread, I take it I should root, and then flash the pre-rooted Lollipop. What does it mean if it is pre-rooted?
Right now, I must admit, I feel very lost in this brand new world of rooting.
Hi, I have the same version of you and its not complicated at all.
First you really need to know what are the terms for this, like TWRP and so.
In my case i went back from stock lollipop to kit kat, then root with purpledrake (easy and fast), then i followed this order: super SU -> busybox -> TWRP manager. All this appz are available in the google store and they are easy to use.
Once all this steps are done you can flash a bumped stock rom or go with a custom one, i went for cloudy 2.1 and its by far the best experience i had with my g3.
Good luck.
Will it be the exact same Lollipop version as the one on, let's say, a Nexus 6? With the same icons in the navigation bar at the bottom?
Because I can already get Lollipop on my LG G3 by just updating it. But I want the stock experience that Nexus users also have.
@iori_cl is correct, but here may be some steps easier to follow .

for stock based rooted rom, flash this as your desired rom;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-cloudyg3-1-0-t2917467
but! this is still LG theme, not really lollipop, you can flash the official CM for pure lollipop if you like (minus lg apps camera, quickAPPS etc)
Yeah, I want the pure Lollipop experience. Without the LG theme. Is there a step-by-step for doing this?
follow steps here, the info in the threads can explain it better than i can.
if you're still on kitkat, ignore the downgrading step..

it's pretty simple, all the info is there except for CM, which can be found here.

I'm sorry to be such a pain in the ass, but this is the step-by-step I'll do based on your links?
01) Root
02) Install twrp
03) Flash twrp update
04) Install CyanogenMod12
I have an Unlocked LG G3 VS985. I have been successful rooting it, but then I restart the phone and it does not stay rooted. It's running Android M 6.0
Software version: VS98547A
Someone please help me out.

I flashed to 47A and lost root also (from 46A). I read perhaps going all the way back to 10b and then going to 47A from there may keep root. So I tried doing this today (link above) - but instead of flashing what the author recommended, i flashed another rom (aospa 6.0.1); i had root until flashing the rom, but couldn't find a way to keep it, again.
It may work if you flash the stock 47A rom the author provides. I'm not gonna try it again, though. I'll wait until there's stump root like apk that can do it for 47A.
hey all-
received a replacement D851 that unfortunately has stock OTA T-Mob MM already onboard(30D). How can I roll this back to something useful? I understand this 'Kingroot' app provides temp root until reboot so I could use that to shoehorn in a recovery, but there are plenty of comments about it cloning your phone to China. I did try running it offline and first thing it does is try to contact a remote server -to 'determine best rooting method'.. suuure. [Uninstall]
So which tool will be the simplest to let me rollback to KK or LP so I can install recovery and root properly? I have a TOT file already so what is the simplest method to flash it as of July 2016?
Been searching high and low to make this work. I have d855 running marshmallow but am in able to root it. Tried several one click ones that has failed (kingroot just ends saying root request and a number just under 30000). Kingoroot doesn't do anything. Iroot I've managed to get the cmd thing to work but not the rooting. Have left the phone with kingroot running to see if this request/adapting thing actually lowers.
Any ideas where I go wrong?
The marshmallow version on the phone may be too new and you may have to downgrade to an older version to root. Which version is currently installed?

6.0 I think the kingoroot page said it could handle it (marshmallow in general)
There are various version of MM so it's important to know the exact version of the phone. Apparently, kingroot can root some early releases of MM based on some threads I saw.
It's an d855 or is there another piece of info you mean?
Look under settings and software information. Marshmallow builds begin with 30x where x is a letter.

I have same problem
Kingroot is not work
V30e-AME-XX
If you can't find a root app that works, a ROM downgrade will be required.
Don't you need to be rooted to do that?
No, root is not needed to downgrade but you'll need to find the correct lollipop ROMs to flash.

Tried the first option on that thread but I only get update stopped due to an error.
Have tried to install twrp but having problems with adb. I thought the adb kit would be enough to make that work. Any idea what else to try?
Go in general thread and search for root marshmallow 30b that guide helped me root my g3 with kingroot. Tell if i helped
I found (I think) the thread you referred to but it seems to require that you have twrp installed. From reading the twrp website i got the impression you need to be rooted to install twrp? Have tried to load the image file from the SD card but can't find it when I reboot it. Not sure where I go wrong but I cannot get it to work.
You need to downgrade with LGflash tool to v30b and use latest kingroot 5.0. Then kingroot will root your phone and autorec file will flash twrp 2.8.0
Tried to do that (see post above) and it didn't work. No idea why.
Is this the thread we are talking about?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/root-twrp-marshmallow-d855-30b-t3286268
Yes and the one at the bottom of page one which tells you how to downgrade to lollipop. The downgrade does not work for me. It only tells me an error occured. The thread you refer to, I think you said you need to downgrade first and the root which I can't do as the downgrade failed.
Try flashing the file v30b from this video and then see if rooting with kingroot works.
Thanks. I'll try that later today.
Account closed so cannot see the file.

Hi All,
Just got my hands on a couple devices (some kitkat, some lollipop). They are all currently not rooted.
I see there is a lot of support for this device, so my question is, what should I do to these devices?
1) Downgrade them all, root them, and update them to lineage os? Is this relatively easy?
2) Can I upgrade them all to lollipop somehow, and then root?
3) What other options are out there, and what do you guys thinks is the best way to take this?
Cheers

Downgrading from lollipop to kitkat is possible, but it sounds like a long and involved process. For returning to stock kitkat all we have a test kdz that introduces a few issues you have to fix. For rooting kitkat PurpleDrake worked. Once you have root, you can flash TWRP then use it to flash any V410 rom you want.

No one has posted any V410 lollipop firmware to update manually. You'll have to take an OTA update. Kingroot has been reported to work on stock lollipop. Attempts to replace Kingroot with SuperSU once root access has been gained have been reported to result in bricked tablets.
Also, you'll be stuck on LG stock with the lollipop bootloader, it can't be unlocked. The kitkat bootloader can't be unlocked either, but it was easy to exploit. TWRP and all the custom roms rely on being on the kitkat bootloader.

I never liked the stock LG rom, but that's just a matter of personal preference. I've been on custom roms since they got stable. Currently I'm running an Android 5.1.1 build of Tesla. This tablet just worked best for me on lollipop custom roms. Marshmallow and Nougat get really unresponsive over time, though to be honest I think that has more to do with garbage apps my kid installs than the system itself. It is always nice and responsive after a clean flash.

Thank you for this extremely informative reply jason2678 ! Thanks for taking time out of your day to provide that detailed reply.
I would love to hear other peoples experiences on which rom to run as well.
