tl;dr bought phone with box and everything, had pattern in it, put into recovery wiped it, now it's a brick.
So I bought a HTC One M9 from someone off of craigslist for $350. It was dead when I bought it, but I got pics of it with it on and functioning. It came with the box, charger and everything. So it had a pattern lock on it so I just put it into recovery mode and wiped it. Now it needs the original account to activate it. I've got a hold of the original person and they gave me the password and email but they reset the password so I think I have to wait 72 hours which is Tuesday night hopefully. But what if it doesn't work? Can I bypass it?

This works on Samsung, can try it out. Can't hurt.

So i have managed to get into the settings of the phone, so I've managed some progress at least!!
From the start up press next
Go to add another network, click advance options, proxy manual
add a couple letters under proxy hostname, push and hold what you added and select share
Select Messages, select yes, then allow
Push the three dots on the top right corner and select "Tips & Help" Press allow
Push the three lines by "how tos" select "diagnostics tools" push "phone storage"
Select Apps, scroll down to "Setup Wizard" select it, then push the i that's in a circle " force stop" it, select "ok"
At this point you should have all three navigation buttons on the screen at the bottom, pull the notification bar down and hit the gear. You're now in the settings of the phone!
You can enable developer options but it won't let you access them, but you're able to access all of the settings in the phone, but I'm not able to get to the home screen. But it's progress, maybe we can figure out a bypass with this information....

Yes, but it doesn't show any intonation in it. I was able to wipe the phone but it didn't clear the protection. The password the person gave to me after 72 hours finally worked, so I have a somewhat functioning M9. The signal is messed up it keeps dropping service. Verizon is sending me a new device, should be here later today.

Hi guys, my little one was playing with phone and has locked my phone after doing the pattern unlock. Dont know how many times she has done it.
It is now saying unlock using email address.
I have done the following:
If you have forgotten the screen unlock pattern, you have up to five attempts to try and unlock your phone. If this fails, you can unlock your phone by entering your Google Account user name and password.
1. On the unlock screen, attempt to enter your unlock pattern five times.
2. When prompted to wait for 30 seconds, tap OK.
3. If the display goes off, press the POWER button to turn the display back on, and then press the bar on the lock screen and slide your finger down to unlock the screen.
4. Tap the Forgot Pattern button in the lower right corner when it appears.
5. Enter your Google Account name and password, and then tap Sign in.
When i do this it just says invalid username and password, just does not let me go past that screen i can still receive calls which is good for now.
I have tried turning phone off still same thing.
I dont know wat to do now to gain access to my phone. Only had it 2 days.
I have been online to make sure my email address and passwrod are correct and the gmail address is correct. Could it be a different address, as the only other address i use aint working either.
My internet connection is disabled too, am i totally fecked or can someone please advise best way. MANAGED TO GET INTERNET CONNECTED using hold power button still no good.
Thanks and fast reply would help majorly.

Re: **major screw up help pls**
when you have the login with Google account screen, put your Google mail address in as normally and for the password type "null"
excluding ""
give that a go. it will mean you won't need to reset your phone.
You can hard reset the phone (starts the phone like new - will delete all user prefs and apps contacts etc) and will return it to the state it is in when it's new
Turn the phone off
Hold down VolDown and turn the phone on by pressing the Power Button (keep holding VolDown)
Follow the onscreen instructions to wipe your phone

The only time I know of when you have to use @ in a Google login is if you are using a Google apps account with your own domain, otherwise it is always just your username.
Hi all, I know there are many posts on this, but I have a customer with an i9000 and locked out of phone with pattern, and has forgotten pattern. No 3 button download, and not in debugging mode. so no 3 buttin fix. Am I wasting my time, should I just tell then to send it off to the service centre.

If I remember correctly it doesnt work.
But you could flash the 3 button fix - thats a start and maybe ypu can reflash it or something (no idea if it works).
use search function next time, and dont make post in development... its all in the STICKY!
Try to put your gmail login info from all different gmail account you have.
Also try this. Take out battery>wait for 3 hours > but the battery back > press power button for 20 seconds (This method was listed by one guy on other forum).
One guy also mentioned this method.
AGAIN ITS the lamest thing you could ever think of, anyway heres how it goes,
1) Log in to your google account on your pc, the same account you registered for your phone
2) After logging in look at the top right corner of your inbox/email page, it would say your google username. Like say if you name is John, and you have a google id thats registered to your galaxy s as ,[email protected] Now this google id on the top right corner of the page would be displayed [email protected]
3) Type in the google id, thats visible on the right hand top corner of your page ([email protected]) into your galaxy s handset locked page, and type in the password.
TADA AND YOUR ON TO THE NEW SCREEN TELLING YOU TO PUT IN ANOTHER PATTERN.
Thanks
Zoh
If you cant login by computer then go here
HTML Code:
https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery
...And if you don't remember your secret (recovery) question then try the following method (check the link)
EDIT: you can also try this (very helpful to lot of ppl with the same problem) http://www.docstoc.com/docs/39761478...d---Locked-Out
Any way try all the methods and let me know if it works...BEST OF LUCK
or try recover mode and wipe all data
or try
this solution is with thanks to another person on another site...
You need a WiFi connection available for this to work!
1) Call your phone from a different phone.
2) Answer the call. While still connected...
3) Hit the BACK button on the phone (the arrow softkey)
4)This takes you to the home screen (it might take a few attempts, it depends on your timing. It took me 4 attempts)
5)Drag down your notifications bar and turn the WiFi on if it isn't already.
6)Close the notifications bar then hit the MENU softkey, select Settings then "Accounts and sync".
7)Click "Add Account" and select Google.
8)Sign up for a new google account as normal.
9)When the signup process is complete (and it must successfully create an account) you can hang up the call. (Do not sync the accounts)
10)Now when the phone asks you to unlock it using google credentials, use the ones from the account you just created. It will now ask you for a new security pattern, then for the same pattern again to verify.
11)Once you are back into the phone, turn off this "feature" until Google release a fix for the bug.
12)You can now delete the "false" google account which you just created from the phone. You should log into google and delete it from there too really.
13)Now reboot your phone. When the phone starts up and it still says "Phone Locked" don't panic!, Just drag the screen out of the way to unlock the phone, just like you did before you activated the pattern security.
Let's hope the guy remembers his google account details.
Seriously though, if you are not going to be able remember your combination lock..... why make it so complicated in the first place?
Thanks for the copy and paste, yeah I've tried all that, I was just after an opinion from the experts.
But doesn't look like I'm going to get one.
No probs, I'll just get my customer to send out back to service centre.
Tony.

I have had and returned 3 dinc2's and everyone of them will uninstall a random app or two after a week. Today my gmail app went and now I have no market access. I am sick of doing factory reset after reset. Is there any way this can be fixed?
I have a feeling this is user error...
are you sure you're not just hiding the apps in the launcher? this can be done in sense based roms.
When you head into settings/applications is the app still listed in there?
Yes it is. When I try to open gmail or market the screen goes white for a few seconds then right back to the home screen.

Could be a conflict with another unrelated app that you have installed on all 3 of them. Just an idea.

Had the same problem, I know this sounds weird but go to settings> applications> manage applications>all, then go to contacts storage..go ahead and clear everything and then try to sync again. Its not necessarily a problem with the phone, its a problem with sync thats why you cant access gmail or your market.
I just lost the use of the clock app.must be the same issue.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
I only heard and had the clock widget problem but fixed it so far with a factory reset. I contacted HTC when it happened and they said the GB update shouldn't have affect it. So i'm getting mixed views on what is going on.
I lost my dialer at one point.. had to factory reset to get it back. Annoying to say the least. Hope its fixed soon, or root for GB comes.. either will satisfy me.
also having this issue... can't pinpoint what's causing it - definitely a headache when it renders the phone itself inoperable and all you can do is factory reset it... I've tweeted to HTC, emailed their support, and posted on their support forums. Hopefully what knipp said is true...
Also lost clock and dialer. Did factory reset. Everything ok for1 week. Lost clock again. Waiting for dialer to crap out again. When it does gonna return to Verizon for something else. Maybe Thunderbolt. LTE was turned on 2 weeks ago.

If you are rooted you can fix the clock issue by unfreezing it in the free version of titanium backup. For some reason, if you install an app that interacts with the clock, it freezes itself.

HTC's instructions to fix the issue... may or may not be helpful - and I'm waiting on a 2nd reply as to whether or not this is something they're trying to fix/patch:
ANDROID – DUAL PROCESS ERROR ISSUE AFTER SOFTWARE UPGRADE
The first process error involving the core programming, you might consider clearing your Contacts Storage on your device. If you do not have your Contacts list backed up anywhere, you should consider sending a copy to your memory card.
======================================================
Backing up your contacts to the storage card
1. From the Home screen, tap APPLICATION LAUNCHER BUTTON > People.
2. Press MENU > tap Import/Export > Export to SD card.
3. Select an account or type of contacts to export > tap OK.
When you get your Contacts list saved to your memory card, you can forward a copy using a .VCF or Vcard to your Gmail account. After you have your Contacts saved, you can proceed with the troubleshooting steps (PROCESS.COM.ANDROID.ACORE).
1. Turn off synchronization
2. Back up your Contacts to the memory card then to Gmail if you would like.
3. Press Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
4. Scroll down to Contacts Storage application in "Manage applications"
5. Tap on Clear cache then Clear data (ATTENTION! ALL CONTACTS DATA ON PHONE WILL BE LOST!)
6. Turn on sync again.
When the screen opens up, you will come to the Application Information screen. You will find several selections on this screen but you are looking for clear cache. If the button is green, you should tap on the button. After the cache is cleared, you should tap on clear data and there should be a confirmation window afterwards. You tap on OK to confirm and this step should clear the data in the Contact Storage application only. After your screen comes back up, you need to soft reset your device.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Changing General Sync settings
1. Press HOME > MENU > tap Settings > Accounts & Sync.
2. Select or clear the following:
§ Background data -> If this is selected, applications can send and receive online account information even if you are not currently using them.
§ Auto-sync -> If this is selected, applications can use the sync schedule defined in the account settings. If this is cleared, you will need to sync accounts manually.
Synchronizing an account manually
1. Press HOME > MENU > tap Settings > Accounts & sync.
2. Tap the account that you want to sync.
3. Tap Sync now.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
GOOGLE APPLICATION ISSUES
If you are still experiencing issues with your Google Applications, I suggest you consider clearing the data in this application through the Manage Applications screen.
===================================================
1. Press Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
2. Clear data from the Google Apps application in "Manage applications"
When your device screen comes back up, you should complete another soft reset. If there is still no resolution, you should attempt another factory reset but try the steps using the hardware keys instead.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Performing a factory reset using phone buttons
If you cannot turn on your phone or access the phone settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the buttons on the phone.
======================================================
1. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER/LOCK button.
3. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button.
4. Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER/LOCK button.
Just received a follow up:
"Dear jntdroid,
I appreciate you sending another email after attempting the troubleshooting steps from the previous reply. I do not have any information about this being an issue but you are correct that there are a number of blog sites with a number of threads concerning this subject. We have found that the process error is usually affiliated with a third party application interfering with some core programming within the device.
Unfortunately, I do not have any information about an update but if Verizon is working on something, you should receive a notification on your Android device when the update is available on the server.
If you need any further assistance, you are welcome to send another inquiry through the HTC website by going through the Support page then tapping ‘send us an email’. You should input all the necessary information requested on the page."
To the OP, or others with this issue, were you by any chance messing with any of these custom skins when the problem occurred?
See here... they might be the problem.
Yes. I have several of them loaded.

Just uninstalled Xperanced Arc to see what happens. Clock came back imediatly after. Seems to definitely be the problem. Sad thing is I really liked that one but I've been using Black Expresso for a while. Still have it installed and running. Still have clock. Hopefully it's just the Xperianced Arc. I'll report back if I have any other issues. I have several different ones installed. Thanks for the info. I've been missing my timer.

Every time I open my address book (or at least the first time after a reboot) I get this AT&T address book verifying subscriber status popup that takes a while to complete. I have no interest in ever using that service so how can I disable the check and just stop using it at all?
I'm guessing that the answer might be root and remove bloatware but I'm hoping there's a way to just turn it off without rooting. Don't worry I'll be rooting sooner than later but for now I'd like to just get rid of that annoying delay.
I havent got my phone yet, should have it within the next 3 hours, but have you looked through the settings, and opened up the AT&T address book app and checked the settings within that app itself?
Yeah. Not seeing any settings for it or actually any AT&T Address Book App at all.
Yeah i finally got mine a few hours ago, but i dont see any options to disable it either.
I'm guessing this will be one of those annoyances that only root can salve.

Where exactly did you "check out the programs.. scroll down to sync and disable"?
I don't see anything about AT&T address book anywhere.
I have the same issue. Every so often when I go into my phonebook I have to wait for it to check the AT&T Address Book. So now there is a huge lag to access my contacts.
Why do carriers think they should be mobile phone designers? I wish they'd just leave the designing to the people who are good at it.
Over 10 years of buying my own phones out of contract for a reason. I've only had the phone for a few hours. I wonder what other lame surprises await....
Ok, I seemed to have fixed it. Not sure which action it was because I was just doing everything I could to make it stop.
First thing I did was to turn off AT&T phonebook in my online account. Log into www.attwireless.com. Under MyAT&T tab, mouse over "Wireless" and select "Usage & Recent Activity". Scroll down to "Members Shared Usage" and click on "view details of the number you're working on. Scroll down to "Minute Detail" and right under that is "Phonebook" with the option to turn it on or off.
At the same time I was doing a lot of flailing around in the the phone. I was Settings page in Contacts and I deleted all the AT&T BS contacts it auto inserted into the phone.
I rebooted and it stopped trying to access that AT&T phonebook. Hope this helps.
1. system setting
2. app manager
3. click on the phone book
4. force stop
Now it will stop and the icon will be removed from the app list. You can do this for all of the apps that will not uninstall till we get root.

In step 3 when you say "the phone book" do you mean the app called Contacts that has an icon that looks like a phone book? When I disable that app my phone dialer icon disappeared making it so I couldn't dial out. Had to re-enable it.
Otherwise, I dont have an app named Phone Book.

Hi I just got my phone the same thing happened. I let it load (the second time it happened the first time I hit cancel). I got a page that was basically an ad for att's backup service, I scolled down to the bottom and clicked on close (or whatever the button did say). Now when I start contacts no more "checking subscriber status etc".
I have not rebooted yet but will and if it comes back I'll post, if it doesn't then at least on my Galaxy SIII it was a one time event.
So I bought my wife a used but very new Kindle Fire 2. Took it home, setup her email app to connect to gmail. All worked well until I realized that the previous owner didn't do a proper factory reset of the device. Still had enough of his stuff to where I could have really screwed him. I didn't. Anyway, I didn't want to have to mess around with manually removing his stuff. So I did a factory reset. The correct way. All his stuff was gone. Went to re-setup email and got the error message that I didn't have permission to sync with that server. I guess it has to do with changes google made to how devices connect to them via a non-google app. They are not allowing new connections and since I hard rest the Kindle, google looked at it as a new connection. After a lot of searching and messing around, I found one solution that allowed me to seup the email, but no calendar and contact syncing. I then happened across the below website that gave me the solution that finally fixed the problem. Email, Calendars and contacts all sync. I hope this helps others not spend the amount of time I did to find the solution. Below is the solution. I cannot post the link but it was found at kindle-fireforum dot com - You just need to fix the url in step three. Being a junior member I had to put it like that so I could post it. I'm sure you'll figure it out.
I had this problem setting up gmail account on new Kindle.
Here is what Kindle support gave me. Worked fine.
Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
2. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Device. Tap ON to turn on Allow Installation of Applications from unknown sources. Tap OK on the warning dialog box that pops up. Don’t worry! You will turn off this feature once update is completed.
3. On the Home screen, tap Web. Enter url address
(just add http :// here)bit.ly/0018580031
and select Go. When you open the web url link in the Silk Web browser, the update downloads automatically.
4. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see the notification bar. You should be able to see the update downloading. Once it completes, tap Email.Apk. Tap OK on the “Replace application” dialog box that follows.
5. Tap Install on bottom right on the “Do you want to install this application?” screen, update will then download. Tap Done after application installed.
6. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Applications. Tap Installed Applications. Tap Email. Verify version number is 1.04_104003110.
7. On the Home screen, swipe down from the top and select More. Tap Device. Tap OFF to turn off Allow Installation of Applications from unknown sources.
8. On the Home screen, tap Apps. Tap Device. Tap Email. Select Gmail from the list of account, and then enter the requested information. With the email app update you should not have to edit any server information.

What a co-incidence! Just found this same solution five minutes ago after searching all day.
The url required is http://bit.ly/0018580031
Thanks for putting in the url for my non-url allowed junior posting butt.
