So I recently purchased a Z5P unlocked, with a contract in vodafone, regardless of that ive been having many problems with the Z5P. I love the phone and all its features. On to my problems and if anyone has an idea how to fix it please tell me!
1: my first problem is the water thing, if i take it in water its all fine, until water touches the jack, say if im in the rain, listening to music(which i have done to experience this problem) it will keep going into headphone mode, this isnt a huge problem, but if theres some work around to this id greatly appreciate it.
2: This is my biggest problem, the charging port just doesnt work properly! i connect it, it charges just fine, 100% in an hour or so, then it drains throughout the day i get home from college, from about 8-5/6 its down to about 50/45% i plug it in and no charge, or even worse half way through the day it'll pop up saying charger not charging battery, with nothing connected into the charger! its just died on me and will not charge at all, until i plugged it into my computer via fastboot and the lil blue light pops up and is now charging. Slowly, but is charging. any ideas as to why it isnt charging through wall charger? all official cables, and around 3 it was charging, in college fine. i get home and it doesnt charge.
other lil problems include the brightness thing, which i guess will be fixed in marshmallow? it keeps going into adaptive brightness even though i turn it off?
another problem is when i turn it off (Press the power button>Power off) it doesnt turn off, it forever restarts, red light, sony screen, black screen-repeat.
also another problem is the lag?! not in general, its all smooth but in snapchat the device starts lagging and then heats up? might be snapchat, i dunno. but the charging ones the big one!:crying::crying:
EDIT: i have done a full reset of my phone before it fully died on me, and this is the first time its ever fully died.
I don't know what country you're in but I'd return it for a new one. To many problems you got there...

I have the same problem as you, when i plug in the phone to the charge, nothing happend but, when i connected to my PC the phone appears to work fine until i restart it, after that, my pc wont reconice the phone either and i cant charge it until the battery is completely dead and of course, when i turn it off, the phone do the same as yours, white scren whit the sony logo after the red light and do the same thing over and over again, i tried hard reset twice but wont work, dont know what to do either............. did you connect your phone on a PC with windows XP in college???, because my problem start when i connecte to an old PC with Windows XP...

i have noticed twice in the last week that when i take my phone off charge in the morning it has been dead... like it was never charging. is this a faulty device or is it common for everyone
doesn't sound right. check whats eating up the battery at night, might be a dodgy app but sounds like a dodgy battery
Sometimes if it's using a lot of power it will be drawing more than the charger gives and still use up the battery. Make sure there aren't any programs running or large amounts of data being transferred on data networks.
It's really bad to run the battery all the way down. If you can't figure out what it is, it may be worth sending it in for service/replacement.
That happens to me with bricked kernel, are u using it?

Id suspect faulty usb/ charger if they move ever so slightly on worn bad cords itl drop charge even tho it was chsrging when u set it down for the night
I know.i have about 5 extra chargers two of them do this everytime
Suspect a charger before u suspect a 600$ phone

okay, i have an update.. this is freaking weird. i have a video and picture of this for proof. the phone was sitting on my desk with the screen off unplugged from the charger.. and then the screen and charging light come on, followed by a beep, and sure enough the charging animation was there... but the phone wasnt plugged in.. i started playing with it and a message popped up saying the phone is using more power than the charger can discharge... 'BUT YOUR NOT PLUGGED IN' :S
i will take it back tomorrow and try for my 5th faultless phone :S sigh*
Has anyone else had an issue like the following
1. phone is off (0%)
2. Plugin charger
3. Red light activates (charging while off)
4. Random amount of time passes eg. 30 mins phone boots up by itself
???
Can anyone explain?
is the phone faulty or charger maybe the cause?

Your not really supposed to run the battery down to zero. It could be designed to boot automatically if the battery had been below a certain amount and it turned off due to that... Not that i have anything to back that theory up...

A Possible cause could be damaged usb port (charging port). Get it to service center.

yreah, i have returned it via optus elf... should have a brand new one within the week
i noticed that then my phone is on charge, the screen becomes really unresponsive, it take at least five times until i can unlock it, and as soon as i unlock it automatically phone app opens by it self. really annoying issue, i cant use my phone when it is being charged. it doesnt get too hot or anything, just the screen is very unresponsive.
anyone else have it?
Hi guys!
I bought my new HTC One X on contract with three UK about 10 days ago. Been working great and I've flashed several different roms on it, the latest being the AOKP jelly bean.
I was in the middle of setting up my Go Launcher last night, when the phone suddenly died. I thought it must have just crashed following some rom/kernel issue, so I tried to turn it back on, no luck. Also tried holding the power button down but to no avail.
I supposed that it might have run out of battery, as it was fairly low at the time, so I left it charging on USB (with the indicator light flashing) all through the night (around 9 hours) and this morning it still won't turn on.
The screen won't come up at all, and the phone doesn't vibrate or make any noise but if I connect it to my computer it will sometimes be detected and I can see the device in ADB.
"adb devices" first shows the device as offline, then if I run "adb kill-server" and try again then it shows the device as "HT23YW105462 recovery".
I've then tried running commands such as "adb reboot", "adb reboot-bootloader", "adb reboot -p" but no luck. The phone seems to recognize the command as it disconnects, but it doesn't turn back on.
Any theories guys? I hope my new toy hasn't been bricked somehow! If this happened to my Desire HD I'd just take the battery out to make sure it was fully off and try again... is this a good idea here?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give! Many cookies will be given as reward. (sorry for the long post )
- P.s. This is pretty urgent as I use this number for work!
:victory:
Ok, it seems to have been resolved at last... just for anybody who gets the same issue, here's what worked for me.
After doing some more searching I found someone mentioning this method: Leave the phone plugged in to your USB port for a while until the orange LED flashes. Leave it flashing for a few minutes, then quickly swap the lead from your USB port to a wall charger. If you leave it unplugged too long then it seems the LED stops flashing and it won't work, so do it quickly.
If successful the LED will keep flashing while plugged into the wall, and it will start to charge up. Give it a while (I left mine for about 25 minutes) then try and turn it on. This worked for me, but even after this period of time it had only charged up to 2%!
:S This is an odd phone indeed.
Very strange resolution IMHO.
This problems must be caused by discharging the battery more than it should (which I guess custom ROMs can cause)

Very strange indeed... I tried pretty much everything I could before this, but this was the only thing to get the phone to boot. Charging and working fine now :S. I'll have to make sure to never run it flat if I can help it, this would be a right pain if it it happened while I was out
Just saved from similar issue
My battery run out last night when I had the phone connected to the tv through USB>HDMI when i put it on the charger the charging light would not switch on. Phone wouldnt switch on either it was really dead!. Left it all night hooked up to charger and this morning still nothing, wouldnt switch on.
So I Hooked it up to the PC and after 10 minutes or so the light started to flash and I quickly inserted the usb charging cable and it started to charge.
Pretty sure I either discharged the battery to much (did update to 7.2.2 yesterday with 30% bat), OR something to do with having the USB>HDMI cable inserted when the battery run out.
Odd but brought it back to life (phew!)

Hmm, seems like a pretty common fault. Maybe an app that cuts power to the phone when it reaches a critical limit might be a good idea... I noticed that most phones seem to turn themselves off before fully dead, whereas ours now seem to completely flatten themselves. At least if it shut down at 1% you could still turn it back on when you found a charger, and it could tell you why your screen was about to go black rather than "poof, gone".
Anybody know such an app? Or should I make one (been wanting to get my hands dirty)
wont turn on

Hello guys,
Wondering if you know what this issue could be. Basically, I had not used my xperia play for a few years and I wanted to try a few emulators on it now, so I tried to start it up and it worked twice, I could see the Sony logo and then it went onto a white screen (this is why I changed it on the 1st place and I think it'll need a Flex cable).
The problem is that after those 2 times, the mobile was vibrating when I tried to turn it on but nothing on the screen at all (not even the previous Sony logo I saw). I managed to plug the charger, get a static red light, which then turned orange and after like 10h that I checked again it was green.
I trid to start it up again, but still nothing. What's happening now is that as soon as I disconnected the charger when it was with the green light, when I connect the charger again it has a blinking red light that doesn't disappear (I've left it charging for hours but same light still there).
I tried to connect it to the computer, but I get a message of USB device not recognized, tried to udpate drivers for Xperia Play or someone mentioned some Zeus drivers, but still the computer cannot see it.
I was wondering if it'd be worth buying a new battery as well to see if this fixes the problem? What do you think? As mentioned, before the problem, I just saw it booting up correctly a couple of times and I didn't do anything afterwards...
Cheers
I could be wrong, but if the phone wasn't used for a few years, I would suspect your battery is part of the problem. I remember that I had an orange light and the phone wouldn't boot for me either when my battery was bad. I bought Hyperion batteries and the phone has worked great since.
As far as the phone not being recognized... I'm not sure. I would probably try uninstalling all Sony related drivers, then reboot the computer and reinstall them. Maybe see if you can get Flashtool to recognize the phone in Flashmode or FastBoot as well.
Do you think the computer should recognized the phone (xperia play in this case) even with a battery problem? for example, if the phone is switched off and the battery removed? (or does it need to be turned on?)
The phone definitely needs to be turned on to be recognized... either booted up normally or on fastboot mode, Flashmode, etc.... I can't remember if it will work in Flashmode or fastboot without the battery inserted... but I'm thinking it won't. I'm at work, but if I get some time to try it out tonight, I will report back.
If you could have a quick look at some point (no rush), out of curiosity, to see what happens if you try to connect it to the PC without the battery? I was thinking that it might be recognizable (as there's power coming in from the USB cable), however in my case I keep on getting the red blinking light when I plug it to the PC without the battery as well and I get the message saying that the device has not been recognized.
I've ordered a new battery anyway to see how it goes. I will learn something from the experience whether it finally ends up working or not...
Cheers!

Ok. I did some testing and you definitely need to have the battery inserted for fastboot mode or Flashmode to work. There is no response from the phone or the computer when only plugged in with the usb cable (and no battery) while holding back button or search button.
If your battery is bad (like we suspect after not using the phone for a few years)....then hopefully you'll be able to get into Flashmode/FastBoot again once you get your new battery.
As far as the screen turning white... it sounds like you're probably correct with thinking something could be wrong with your slider /flex cable.... but that's hard to know for sure. When my friend's flex cable was bad, it started out with lines through the screen and eventually had a strange textured grey/white appearance when the cable finally went completely out.
Just quick update for future reference in case someone faces a similar problem.
The red blinking light when trying to charge the mobile with an old battery was caused by the battery being faulty after a long period without use. I ordered a new one and as soon as I plugged it in to the charger, the light became orange (rather than red) and a little while later green.
Even with the battery charged, I had the problem that I couldn't see anything at all on the screen. The mobile vibrated when being switched on but then just a black screen. It turned out to be the 'flex cable'. It was totally knackered. Replaced with a new one and all working as well now.
Cheers!!

Cool man. Glad to hear you fixed your phone.
Hi, i have a Tab S 8.4 and I was using it and suddenly the tablet turns off, I tryed to tun on but nothing, it was totally dead, with 63% of de battery remaining and with no apps installed, just made a factory reset 1h ago, i tried every key combination to turn on but nothing, totally dead, when I get home I connect it to the charger and the charging screen appears so it wasnt bricked, i disconected it because it was al 63% as before, i used it all day and with 24% again, off and the only way to turn on was charging it
Now again, i was trying to play Lara Croft Go and it turns off 3 times with this game, so i uninstalled it, try with Geometry Dash and it was working until I turn off the screen and turn on again and after 3 seconds the tablet was off again...
I dont really care since I can turn on charging, but I dont like this solution because obvious reasons, someone can tell me if it is a firmware bug? My firmware is:
LRX22G.T700XXU1BOF2
I had no warranty so i dont really know what to do, anyone knows about something similar? Maybe its the battery?
Also I cant enter to bootload mode, I tried with all combination of keys during boot and it always turns on normally, what exactly I have to do to enter to bootloader?

thank you, I searched on google by using another keywords and I found nothing wich describes my problem, but thay seem to be the problem as I read.
i really though it was be a software problem, if it is the battery connector how does it "autofix" when I plug in? And how does it always crash on some apps? Maybe when an app uses too much energy it crashes, and when I plug the charger it restarts the circuit? Dont really understand
Anyway if people say its the solution I will try, thank you very much
It's a known issue on your model. There are several posts on the forum regarding this.
There are even tutorials on YouTube how to fix it.
Thank You, any way to repair without buying another battery? People say to fix the connection by closing the female pins but they are tooooo small so there is no way I could make it fit thight, by the way, If I buy an original samsung battery how I know it wont happen again to the new one?
Other peoples tablet reboot, mine just turns off and gets dead until I plug the charger, there is no way to tun on without the charger, Im thinking to buy an external battery such as Xiaomi's one , but im not sure if it will woke up the tablet whe its off, someone have an external battery can test for me if the tablet turns on when you connect the battery?
Thank you e
Z5 Premium not turning on
hello everyone,
PLEASE HELP ME!
My z5 premium was working fine.. battery was charged too, and suddenly it turned off, and it didn't turn on back again. I've tried all the different ways and solutions that should turn it back on:
hard reset didn't work
2 minutes hard reset didn't work
hard reset button didn't work
plugged it in using it's OEM charger and usb cable didn't work either and LED didn't lit up
plugged it in to the computer nothing happened, wasn't detected with no sign of life
I had to take off it's battery cover (using professional tools) unplugged the battery, connected the phone to the charger while the battery is unplugged, and nothing happened reconnected the battery back, and plugged the phone again to it's wall charger, and no sign of life.
i left it there all night long since the afternoon. and when i came back in the next morning to check if the phone is charging and the LED is lit up, but again NO SIGN OF LIFE!
(BTW, the phone is in mint condition and it was never been disassembled or repaired)
Please if anyone have an idea what this could be?
if anyone has encountered the same problem and went through the same of what I've been, and was able to repair it or find a solution PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Now, I'm thinking of 2 things: either the battery is completely dead(damaged) or it's the mainboard which I don't hope to be.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS!
Now, forget about any sort of software repair, as I explained above, the phone didn't succeed in that.
So, any help or suggestion would be so much appreciated.
Thank you all for taking time in reading and participating in this topic.
Have a good day.

Not happy reading this thread. Why so many issues with Sony Android... Anyway;;
- I recently had the same issue - or an issue in the same ball park. Phone Just died and refused to charge, but would show a red LED and try to boot when plugged in.
- Sent it to Sony, Hoping it is only a dead battery
The OP sounds like a they have a USB port issue or a board issue, also OP phone will no longer waterproof after removal of cover.
Unclear as to whether you have tried the following;
- Turn on whist holding camera button instead of Volume up/down. it is worth a try
- Try to grab an official sony charging cable- basically impossible to buy nowadays, maybe a PS4 controller cable? try it
My stock unrooted Z5p died like this in April. Have the same issue as the OP and tried all the same solutions. My Z5p had only been used indoors for months with WiFi before sudden death. Replacing the charging port did nothing. Using the OEM cable and charger with a new battery gets a 2 sec red light when connected to power and starts booting up until the swirls (gets past Sony Xperia and powered by android screens). Then the screen goes dark and shows the big battery for a couple of seconds.
I didn't realize there was a sudden death problem with Sony phones until I started trying to fix this. What's even crazier is that I had (have) the Xperia Z, Z Ultra, and the Z2. The Z2 was used in the rain constantly and even survived an ejection from a handlebar mount at 15mph onto asphalt. (All these phones were rooted and using custom ROMs/kernels.) Seems like Sony has a serious QC issue they're not taking about.
