Legacy App Scaling - Windows 10 Mobile

I have a Lumia 1520, which has a 1920x1080 display, but I noticed a lot of older apps only detect it as 800x480. Presumably this is for compatibility on the old, smaller, wm7/8 devices. However, on the 1520, it looks ridiculous. The zoom makes the display worthless. Is there any way to change what old apps detect as the resolution to change that scaling?

I think it is built in in the app itself. Like iPhones have trouble scaling iPhone 4 and 5 apps on the 6(S).
I am afraid developers have to update the app
Verzonden met Tapatalk

Developers must recompile the app for WP8.1 / W10M and enable scaling in settings of visual studio to ensure it makes use of extra screen estate and looks crisp on windows phones with high resolution displays.

I was hoping there would be a file I can edit, like androids build.prop, to change the lower-res scaling resolution to something higher. Ah well.

lcd resolution increase on laptops?

Anyone know if there's anything similar to LCD Resolution for laptops? I'm getting the Lenovo y570 (the top end model, but still only comes with 1366x768 res), and I'd like to increase its res. I imagine that there's a way to improve it like we can on the sgsII, but I can't figure out how. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TYIA
Resolution is the actual number of pixel clusters in a screen. You can't increase the resolution on a device without replacing the screen.
You can change the DPI, dots per inch, which changes how the device displays images. Essentially, you are telling the device to ignore the actual resolution.
I assume you're using Windows.
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Windows 7

Lowering res to 1080p

Hello guys,
is there a way to lower screen res to 1080p by default (for system and everything running)?
Thank you
You can google "wm size" and "wm density", for 1080p you might as well set the dpi to 420. I don't recommend you do this on stock rom though.
If you think this can help you save battery life, it won't.
If you want performance, the gpu is strong enough for most apps that you probably won't notice any different between FHD or QHD. For 3D gaming, HTC's boost+ can lower the game resolution to 1080p.
Indeed, if you change the resolution and density, they can make some apps acting weird.

It doesn't open apps faster, but it can make the UI smoother (transitions/scrolling). This is entirely subjective of course, and then there's the variables of different rom/kernel combinations

Switching Display Res from WQHD - FHD

Hey guys,
So just wondering has anyone noticed and pros / cons when switching the display resolution from WQHD ( 2560 x 1440) to HHD (1920 x 1080)?
Ive switched to it back and forth several times, and so far I really cant see any difference. The screen quality / crispness seems to be the same. Also I noticed that when i have FHD selected the device obviously seems to run a little faster / snappier.
Incase you don't know what I'm referring to its in Settings>Display>Screen Resolution.
Hmm the only place I can change that is by turning on a power saving mode, I don't see any screen resolution in the settings otherwise (on Canadian N930W8).

Thats strange I have it as a stock option in settings...
I tried it once and didnt like how the LCD density increases significantly. It also doesnt play nice when setting a custom LCD density via a root app or through adb.
I've noticed no improvements with quality, performance, and even battery life. Setting the res to anything but WQHD actually somehow drains more battery and causes performance issues.
To ellaborate on the tricky LCD density issues, I thought I could set the res to 720p and the LCD density to my usual (420 down from stock 560), but having the density to 420 on WQHD and then changing it to 720p essentially erases the set density, and then things get a little funky when trying to re-change the density. Doing so causes some weird glitches since the density of 420 on 720p is based on the resolution, so it actually makes the density much bigger compared to stock density on 720p, and then setting the density to the proportionate number based on calculating the difference causes the entire Ui to seize up and crash. The same effect you would get where if you set the density below 300.

Ok thanks for the great answer! Guess ill stick to WQHD! Just thought it might offer some benefits.
been testing this and found that it does not get warm when switched down
and to the eye same amazing screen

Sorry, but my findings are almost the opposite, I even made a thread in discussion forum to regard the change to FHD to other users.
FOR ME, switching to FHD has improved the responsiveness of the UI (graceui) considerably, and I do not see the "LCD density increase" (btw.: what should that be? i guess DPI?? then switching to FHD would be a DEcrease...)
Also, I'm almost sure that this must lead to battery improvement too. simple because cpu und gpu have less work to do calculating the lesser amount of screen-pixels to draw! This might be slight, but should be there!
The other problems you mention are because you are playing around with density mods, are you using xposed? I use the lower FHD resolution now for a week, and I do not have ANY problem with it!!! And trust me, I use this phone the whole day long and have many programs and communication tools installed.
everything works as it should!

Video Player that support filter/post processing effects

I am looking for a Video player app that supports effect/filter/post processing mainly Sharpening. possibly other options like contrast, saturation/hue etc.
VLC for desktop and many other PC player apps support this, but I have yet to see one for mobile.
I've used MX Player Pro for long time, but i has no way to tweak the actual video it plays...any suggestions?
EDIT: MPV
That does it all if u setup a .conf.
Now use it for Android and PC.
https://mpv.io/manual/stable/
Sharpening while playing is a Hardware based ability
Hi there,
Unfortunately, for now, Sharpening while playing, is a mere Hardware ability (in contrast to HUE, SATURATION, BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST etc which are software depended).
Sharpening works on its best with PCs hardware architecture, but on mobile platform you should go for proper hardware, not all SOCs support SHARPENING. for instance some MEDIATEK SOCs support it and the ability is called MIRAVISION by MediaTek. i had your problem, and finally bought a midrange tablet with MEDIATEK MTK MT8783 chipset which supports Sharpening and other MiraVision abilities very well, satisfied me with crystal clear and crisp video playing on FullHD IPS screen, far better than any TV.

WOW....really...reply to 2yr old thread.....mods will probably ban u for that....they very picky here.....
And your very wrong......
Discovered over a year ago...no thanks to anyone here on XDA.....that MPV player app has everything u can set via its .conf file. Sharpness, brightness, contrast, scalers, etc. I now use it on Android and PC. Even find it much better then MPC-HC i was using on PC.
tnx for your reply, i tried it but never works correctly bro, at least i couldnt make it to work like miravision. if you have a config file please upload it here and share.

What u mean "never works correctly". What device and source file are you playing?
By default, it should work just fine to play pretty much anything. Works fine on my Pixel 3
If u fuss with the settings, and your devices does not support those settings, or the hardware is not strong enough, then things will have issues.
MPV has extensive documentation on how to use each syntax command and what scalers, and hw accel/decode modes support what etc.
The .conf would be unique to each device/platfourm etc.
The only things i have in my mpv.conf on my phone is:
sharpen=1.18
saturation=10
I also use ewa_lanczossharp for up and downscaling filter. I have noticed that using Interpolation makes the video look wonky, but that is very device specific experience, screen refresh rate and gpu power etc.
wow!!
thats great pal, really great. i used your config and then changed it, changed sharpness to 5! though uses more system resources but works great. now i can use my abandoned android box on tv too, it doesnt have battery so no worries about battery drainage.
also found some instructions on net, so complicated for me to read and use it all, but at least learned how to use cfg file.
tnx again
unfortunately, it doesnt work with my Amlogic s905 CPU of Android box. player runs well but commands like sharpen never get to work with any parameter. i tried it again on my Mate9 phone and worked well with KIRIN chip, so about Amlogic, it needs more development.

Question Bad resolution on Cod Mobile.

And not only in that application in other applications it also works low resolution like pubg do you think it has a solution? Because I bought this tablet basically to play their games.I am thinking of selling it and buying the iPad because my girlfriend has it and all the applications are at the highest quality here, I feel that it is not optimized and what is like a large mobile. The tablet in hardware and price quality is much better than the ninth generation iPad and has incredible speakers but if it is not accompanied by a good operating system it is useless
It did choose lower resolution on some games, but there I could increase it to max level manually in settings.

I have put everything to the maximum of graphics but the resolution of the game being low it still looks very pixelated, It is not optimized for the size of the tablet

Same problem here on cod and pubg. Have you found any solution?
Just check anti aliasing
I tried all graphic settings, even antialiasing. Uninstall and reinstall the game, fabric reset the Tab but no changes. It is like the game runs in 480p and It doesn't recognize screen resolution.

Maybe the game simply isn't optimised for a tablet very well? Maybe speak to the developers. I don't have any resolution issues on anything else.
I have the same problem did it got fixed? Or did you get a solution??
No, no solution for me.
I've read that this is a known issue even on the Samsung Tabs so it seems to be a screen related issue in general.
