Hi, in my old Samsung S3, we had a script to load with a Custom Recovery to clean the current kernel before install a new one. Is there any other script like this for our Nexus 5x?
Thanks
Clean the kernel how? Usually people just dirty flash the ROM they're using (which replaces the previously installed kernel anyway) and then flash the new kernel they want to use.
This is an example:

Another:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/mod-kernel-cleaner-script-superwipe-t2121701
But I don't know if I can use one of this.

Do not use any of those. There is no need to use a kernel cleaner.

Those scripts are basically for lazy people that don't want to format cache and wipe dalvik themselves. Just flash the ROM you're currently running and then flash the new kernel over it and reboot.
Are you sure that those scripts formats only Cache and Dalvik? They don't do anything else?

Yeah. It does both of those operations twice and then claims to clean "modules" and "old files" when they just get overwritten when you flash the ROM or new kernel anyway. They're useless.

Back i'm the old vibrant days we had a script cleaning phones to flash kernels, is that usable on this phone?

I highly highly doubt it would be usable, but you should post it.
Also, you should just be able to flash from kernel to kernel with a few steps.
Wipe cache (this is actually very important for flashing kernels)
Wipe dalvik cache (just in case, never hurts)
Flash Kernel
Reboot!
Sometimes, kernel devs include kernel specific files that will overwrite those of your ROM. If you start noticing funky behavior that wasn't there before it's likely that the files may conflict. At this point the best thing to do is reflash your ROM, then your desired kernel.
Hope that made sense
hmm... interesting
i do it when i flash new/different ROMs, but never though about cleaning the cache for Kernel updates
BRB, flashing kernel 1.8 again + wipe cache

I would post but I don't think anyone should flash it yet, until it's confirmed.

Can I get some download links or do I compile it from Kieran's thread? What kernel should I use? Where can I get this Chevyowner nandroid or something?

I'm gonna bump this real quick. What should I wipe? Before I flash the zip and after? Flash Kernel first?

Like I posted in your other post for this, you always need to wipe the big 3 - data, cache and dalvik cache - prior to installing a custom ROM, unless the ROM's thread directs you otherwise.
I don't know whether it matters or not, but I always have the best luck flashing the kernel first, then using it's recovery to flash the ROM. I also clear cache and dalvik again after I flash the ROM just in case there was something in the zipfile so I have the cleanest startup possible.
Finally, with FXP113, I got an error on the phone module and had no service. In that case, I was able to get it to work by installing FXP112 following my normal procedure, reboot and activate on Verizon, and the installing FXP113 but not clear data, dust cache and dalvik.

I can't seem to find any kernel cleaning scripts anymore anyone have any links for good scripts?

What do you need it for? You can just wipe cache and dalvik. Some kernels place files in /system/etc so you could look at that and delete those files if necessary

Kernel cleaning scripts are nonsense, no need for them.
Seeing as most kernel recovery flashable zips contain a cleaner script, there must be some point to them.
Due to that you generally shouldn't need a standalone cleaner, but here's a good one from the GLaDOS thread anyway:

If you look at the cleaner script included with kernels they format cache and dalvik. You can do this in recovery before flashing zip.

The ONLY thing I do if I'm coming from a kernel that has replaced my ramdisk is to relfash my original kernel, or ROM, before flashing a kernel that doesn't replace the ramdisk. Otherwise, no "cleaning" is done.
hi all,
every time i boot up my phone i get the "android is upgrading" message...
i already searched the forum for a solution but non worked...
- re installed titanium backup - didn't work
- wiped dalvik and cache and fixed permission - didnt work
- some people suggested deleting titanium's odex file - i cant seem to find it in /data/app (the one which is on root level)
- even full wipe wont help, it'll work fine on 1st boot but after the phone is setup i'll get the message again
i could really use some help >.<

its rebuilding your dalvik at every boot. did you flash any mod? it could also be your rom/kernel if it has a dalvik wipe script included. some devs like to trick you into believing that their mod/rom/kernel is the fastest, so they delete you dalvik on every boot. this makes it appear, yes only appear, like their stuff is extra fast. but in reality, its just a clean dalvik. also, check your init.d folder such scripts.

then youre either using a custom kernel that includes such a script or youre using a mod that does it. are you using the supercharger script? if so, id get rid of it.

it should happen after flashing a new rom, or when you clear your dalvik. check if there is a init.d folder with such a script. a wipe doesnt get rid of the init.d folder, just user data.

you are using a 4.1.x rom and kernel? i just talked to Francisco Franco, he said his older kernels used to wipe dalvik upon boot.
I have similar problem. I wiped dalvik, and now it gives me Starting apps message every time it's loading. I know it's normal for apps to start lol, but I never had constant notification for it :/

Hmm using Franco 283...
But when I do a full wipe the kernel is wiped as well isn't it?
Sent from my Paranoid Powered Galaxy Nexus
maybe a rom/cpu control app with a wipe dalvik option?
Again, full wiping would delete these apps...
Maybe tomorrow I'll try installing an older version of the Rom... I hope it'll work cause this is starting to get frustrating

you think the kernel can be the problem? i see no mention of such a problem on the kernel thread
Well I guess it was a Rom issue or something...
Flashed a new version of it and now it working fine

I currently have Faux123's flo jb 4.3 kernel installed. I want to install ElementalX onto my device. Will I have to uninstall Faux's kernel to get Elemental, or does it not matter?
If I have to uninstall Faux, how would I go about doing that?

I am not 100% familiar with the Nexus 7 yet, whereas with my SIII and HTC Desire. Normally every phone support only 1 kernel and once you flash a different one it will basically overwrite the old kernel.

Ok cool. I guess ill just do a quick backup and then flash the new kernel. One more question; Does it matter where you download the .zip kernel in the first place? Or does it always have to be flashed in /sdcard

As I mentioned, I do not have 100% knowledge yet on the Nexus device, hence I am reluctant to give you any advice that might brick your tablet. Maybe someone that did it already could answer your question more precise. I guess there should be also some guide in the kernel thread or not?

Download Kernel, use root explorer to browse to SD card/downloads, long press the .zip file you downloaded, select move from popup window, near top left select parent folder this should be the root of SD card, from top right side of window select move here. .zip will now show here. Boot into twrp select wipe, select advanced wipe
Important Wipe cache and dalvik cache ONLY. Wipe only cache and dalvik cache. Wipe only cache and dalvik cache. Important
Click back button after wipe to get back to install button select install, browse down to .zip file you downloaded. Install it. the kernel your talking about has an aroma installer so there will be many selectible options. Select what you want as options. Wipe cache and dalvik cache again once aroma installer is complete. Press reboot. Done

my HTC Desire is sleeping at the moment due to my SIII , whereas I am keeping it for e.g. situations where I do not want to use the SIII due to risk, damage or whatever. Once such a situation appears I guess I will update to a newer version .
