~4-5% Battery drain per hour on stand by, lol. Help! - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm running @Schischu 's MM 6.0.1 AOSP ROM on my SM-T705W. I haven't flashed a kernel myself, it's just running what's in the ROM. I run the tablet in airplane mode, with the bluetooth, cell radio, and NFC off. Just the wifi is on.
The core of my problem is that I have no EFS. I lost it a bunch of flashes ago, and have no interest in getting it back. I'm happy without that functionality. HOWEVER, on this ROM (doesn't happen on stock, or any of the official/unofficial 5.0.1 LP AOSP derivatives, I've tried AICP, CM12.1, PacMan) The battery drains super quick.
I figured it was GApps, and there was a wakelock that was trying the missing cell radio, so I did a clean flash from stock (TW 5.0.1, the BOH1 release) to the latest MM ROM (root using chainfire, TWRP 2.8, wipe dalvik, cache, system, data, internal mem, flash ROM, and boot to system) with no GApps. I get the same battery drain, no apk's added, no GApps. So it's a MM problem, or something with the ROM.
I downloaded @leducbao 's Battery Stats Plus (shout out, that app is awesome. Got it free in his thread, then bought it on Play Store.) The data from it is too advanced for me to understand, I'm hoping someone can help me find the troubled process and freeze it. What it shows is umts_boot0 and xmm626x sucking up 87% and 86% respectively (I don't know how that's possible, but I don't really understand the data output anyway, so whatever) under the kernel wakelocks menu. The rest of the behaviors look fine to me.
Can anyone help with this? I just want to find and stop the processes draining the battery and use the tablet like a wifi model, without the cell functionality.
Thanks in advance.

Something is keeping your tablet awake when it should be in deep sleep in standby, install a wakelock detector app, also disable sync and any alarms.
Also the weaker your cell signal the more power you t705 transmitter will use, I don't have an cell data contract, so i set my phone to GSM as it gives me full bars.
John.

The problem does feel a lot like the cell radio is draining it, but I can't think of anything more to do than keep it in airplane mode. Is there a process you know I can freeze to stop it?

[Q] Battery drain and 3G connectivity loss

Hi all!
Since a few months ago, my Desire has been having two major issues:
- Huge battery drain in 2 to 5h time (unable to identify application responsible, powertutor reports android system or os - can't remember -, while built-in battery usage monitor reports either display or cell standby - the second appears especially when the phone is idle and supposedly sleeping). The few times I enabled airplane mode, I got double battery time, though it doesn't come close to former normal battery time.
- 3G connectivity loss, when going through no signal areas or when the phone is forced to switch between GPRS and 3G and vice-versa.
Regarding the second issue, I've already tried to enable GSM (auto-PRL) and the result is practically the same as having 3G enabled. Only factory resetting after enabling the former setting and choosing GPRS only, in Settings works in no signal downtime.
Nothing I've tried takes care of the battery draining issue, even hard-resets. I've already flashed different roms from Eclair to Gingerbread, from unrooted stock to root stock-based: no real change.
So after this rambling, my question what is more likely either some hardware malfunction or a software bug in the android system or in some application?
Anyway, I'll try to use systempanel or watchdog to try pinpointing the culprit.
Thank you.
Flash latest radio
Also worth thinking about the kernel, I had a similar thing to you, and it was because I flashed a different kernel to the one packaged with the rom.
I would also try a full wipe, ie cache, data, system etc. in recovery and installing something clean eg oxygen rom.
The suggestion above about the radio is definitely worth trying also I would check that your current ril is compatible with your radio version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902752
Hello! Sorry for not answering sooner.
I have been running the latest radio for at least one month, and it hasn't changed that much the issue.
Also, at some point, I did try another kernel, having seen that suggestion elsewhere in the forums. It also didn't change much.
Finally, I have also tried flashing and using the clean oxygen gingerbread rom. The battery time improved a bit, but didn't go back to normal.
Still, after seeing the results of systempanel monitoring, I will try flashing oxygen rom again because, perhaps with 2.3.4, whatever the issue is, it might have been fixed.
Try to calibrate your battery:
1.) Load phone till full when on
2.) Turn off and load to green led
3.) Turn completely on, turn off and load until green led appears
4.) Boot into recovery, wipe battery stats and now use phone as normal
No warranty for any damage.

Did it start when you flashed something new?
Hello!
That is possible. However, I have flashed and formated the phone many times since then and there has been no change.
Also, I have been monitoring the cpu usage through systempanel as suggested in some other threads, throughout the last weeks and in average, there's no installed application going further than 10% cpu usage consistently. When seeing the history of usage, at the top I have the system process, which has an average consumption of 0.2% over one week.
So, the phone seems to be working normally, but when using the currentwidget app to see the current drawn from the battety in each instant, at the best I get 50-70 mA, at the worst I get 700-800 mA. On average, 300-500 mA consistently.
I think something is draining the battery consistently much more than normal and also causing the baseband or the radio subsystem to crash, when switching from 2G to 3G or vice-versa.
I have done everything suggested in this thread, except for flashing a new clean oxygen rom and I've got no result.
What could be causing this: some hardware problem?
Thank you for your patience.
Maybe try the battery in someone else's desire, that you know functions ok, and their battery in yours? Perhaps the battery is dying?
Since I haven't been able to find anyone with an HTC Desire and I can't be certain if the problem is with the battery itself, I'll just send my Desire for repair to HTC.
Hopefully, they'll find and solve whatever the problem is.
Thank you all, anyways.

Keep Official CM or come back to Stock???

I'm facing a terrible and insane battery drain with the official CM10.2!, It looks like the "phone" process is the problem, when Airplane mode is Off, the "phone" process kills the battery, about 10% in just a few minutes!, Idle state is useless too, in just 7 hours my phone lost more than 40% of battery, (in stock 4.3 it used to be around 2-4%!!!) I checked almost everything, the typical problem with the "google service" and with "locations", the sync, vibration, system sounds, haptic feedback etc, the only solution is turn on the airplane mode, but that has no sense...
I disabled some options such as browser, voice dialing, movie studio, mail and apollo cuz I don't use them, but the problem is still there.
The only one "no common" app in my phone is "Xposed", with "Smooth System Progress Bars","Tinted Statusbar" and "YouTube AdAway", I was using Gravitybox too but I thought it was the problem, so I deleted it.
CM10.2 is really fast and runs smooth, but with that battery drain is IMPOSIBLE to keep it for a long time :S!
What I should do? keep looking for the problem or switch again to stock rom?

One question, are you using a SIM with this device?
Disable Airplane mode. Check for wakelocks with BBS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) - use the thread to understand what wakelocks are and learn how to deal with them.
Could be Xposed framework, I don't know. One way to go about that would be wiping data, formatting /system, and reflashing CM10.2 (whatever you flashed before or downloading another nightly or whatever you want and flash that instead)
Are you flashing compatible gapps right? Note, CM10.2 is 4.3, not 4.4.x.

Backup and reflash the ROM to see if there's a hardware issue (likely not). Also, check for wakelocks.

Yes!, my GN is GSM and I use a Sim card, but I never had a problem before with stock rom
And yes, I Know CM10.2 is 4.3
I installed CM with the CMInstaller, so, I think rom and gapps are correct
I did the next after install "BBS"
1: Delete Xposed third modules = still insane drain battery (BBS says Phone is always awake, so weird)
2: Delete Xposed module itself = battery drain reduced a LOT, but the drain is still high (BBS says Phone is awake all time yet...but the drain is about 6%/hour, so in 5 hours my phone lost more than 20%)
3: Disable mobile data = battery drain seems almost disappeared!, Im still checking (using wi-fi enabled) (BBS says that phone NOW changed from always awake to Deep sleep!)
So I can say that Xposed was a big problem, but there is a problem when "mobile data" is On, and the phone never change to deeps sleep...
So, I dont know how to fix the problem, or what I should do, I really need mobile data active, is something essential
Any ideas guys? I really like this room, phone runs amazing but this annoying problem makes me crazy!
Well, I'm gonna install again the CM rom, a clean install,if the problem keeps on it I will be forced to switch again to other rom...(with this about flash a few times, sometimes I think I'm gonna screw up my phone :/) but I have a doubt, I want to try AOKP rom, Can I Install the Official AOKP through CM? (I mean, install the rom with CWM)

Horrible battery drain when screen on only (5.1)

Hi, running latest firmware + 2.10.410.1 roms, tried Maximus and ARHD, both with prior wiping, dalvik/cache wipe, battery cycle etc. When i am actually using the phone it still gets quite warm plus i can literally watch my battery percentage drop 1% every two minutes just using whatsapp. Happens even when not installing anything except whatsapp, gmail etc. I tried battery monitor, but it simply shows those apps (whatsapp) etc, not really WHY they are draining so much power when in use. Standby time is perfectly fine....
Anyone else notice such issues? Anything i can do to test further?

hi mate
try this app (better Battery Stats)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Let it run for a few hours ( are you root? ) and check : other , kernel wakelocks and partial wakelocks to see what is keeping up your phone
i had same issues with both custom roms, im keeping ViperOne since it is the more stable and giving me best performance with no changes at all on tweaks, just select viper sttings on the aroma installer setup.
Hi, I tried bbs, no special wake locks. However, my issue is that phone gets hot and drains battery while in use. Standby is perfectly fine. Even Whatsapp usage it gets hot and u can literally watch % drop.... Thought it was fixed on 2.10.410.1.. Oh I miss my m8. You think viper makes a difference over arhd? I even tried EX hexa core mod..
I faced a similar issue after flashing ElementalX kernel over eragon.
What I did was install os monitor & read the event log.
It turned out that dotview was messing about & keeping my cpu clocks high, so I went to clear data and force stop app which seemed to have fixed it since.

High held awake time and battery drain

So my battery on my phone seems to suck... I just made a full wipe clean install of ICE Rom 3.5.0 with cleanslate kernel, balanced pnp profile v. 22, magisk root and got a whooping battery loss of around 30 percent overnight!
I was using stock before and had around 20 battery loss overnight, which sucks and is the reason i wanted to try a custom rom.
My phone is already 4 months old and I did a battery diagnosis, which ended with 94 percent (which is good right?).
Can anyone please help me?
I don't have Facebook or Facebook messenger installed, turned of WiFi and Bluetooth Scan and Location Services.
And I'm using Greenify, although I didn't greenify any apps yet

What email app are you using? How have you got it synced? See how many times it wakes your device using Gsam or some similar app. This was my battery drainer (I use Bluemail). Anyway, check that out first.
20% battery loss overnight is horrible. Something is not set up correctly or is misbehaving.
Reboot your device and let it set for 2 minutes. Now go to System/Settings/Developer options and select Running Services. Everything look OK there?
I cant see your screenshot.

Yes, I lost the same amount although I had the phone in flight AND extreme energy saver mode...
I'm facing the same problem after i updated my Firmware to 2.28.617.6. My Battery Usage show 45% of ANDROID OS an 39% of ANDROID SYSTEM, I'm already tried Viper 4.1, 4.3, 4.5, 5, 5.1, all with the same problem.
I updated firmware using RUU.exe, and i already updated firmware again to 2.41.401.3 with RUU again. Same problem
I realized the problem is not with rom, all of then, stock or custom, show the same situation. Its a firmware problem with Nougat
My phone is a Unlocked version, with S-ON
Any help?
I would perform a full wipe (+data!). Reinstall your Rom freshly, and the problem should be gone.

I'm already did that, all ROM's installs i did with a clean install.
With no one third app installed, the problem persists
i'm already tested turn of wifi, bluetooth, location, put phone on save battery mode, restart all permissions
Nothing helped
The main question is thats something who did not let phone enter in deep sleep
Yeah I've got the same problem with Android OS and Android System (the wakelocks are HVDCPD_WL and NETLINK) keeping the phone awake and preventing deep sleep almost 100% of the time, which is absolutely killing my battery life.
Frustratingly, the problem is not solved with a full wipe + reflash of any ROM. I originally had the problem sometime after the stock 7.0 OTA upgrade, at which point I unlocked the boot loader, flashed Maximus HD, then the problem went away for about a month until just returning a couple days ago. I've tried flashing the latest Maximus HD, Viper, but nothing is fixing it so far.
I bet it's some kind of hardware issue. I'm almost at the point of giving up and getting a OnePlus 3.
Just sharing my experience: I tried every Sense-based ROM I could find, problem of phone not going to sleep persisted. Even tried RUU to latest 2.41.617.3, which of course wipes absolutely everything - same problem, phone not going to sleep. As last ditch attempt, flashed the LineageOS Jan 28th nightly, and the problem is gone. Phone sleeping properly and battery life is back to normal. Not sure if coincidence or what... Going to stay on Lineage for a while as it works pretty well, but will go back and try Sense again in a couple weeks maybe.
This issue started to affect my phone while still on Marshmallow, around 3 weeks ago. It felt like it started after updating an app. This is what prompted me to update to Nougat. However, the issue persisted, even with full wipes, and even with LineageOS installed.
Moving from stock ROM to LineageOS has reduced battery drain from 10% per hour, to 5%.
Airplane mode and battery saver mode makes no difference to the drain. Neither does any WiFi and GPS setting changes - I have already read about a few possible "causes".
Perhaps the only option is S-OFF and re-flash all partitions of the phone?

Running a RUU would be your best option. This will wipe the phone and restore the stock ROM (system, firmware, etc).
Have you looked at wakelocks or app usage to see if there is any unusually high usages? I had a problem with my 10 awhile back that ended up being a particular version of Google Play Services. Usually these issues can be traced to a particular app or setting, it's just a matter of knowing what to look for.
Ohio wake_lock and no deep sleep. Same issue after reflash ruu, lineage, viper... on all roms same issue and no deep sleep. I think it's hardware issue. I try to flash elementalx kernel and it fixed problem for a day, one day only. Worst phone ever for me.

How do you make a battery diagnosis?
Hi, since about a month I've been having the same issue, the kernel HVDCPD_WL and NETLINK wakelocks are keeping the CPU in use and consuming the battery charge at a rate of about 10%/hour. Has anybody got any new info on this? I read of someone that claims of having fixed it by cleaning the usb-c port, but in my case it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Android System Battery Drain

Hi to all,
My android system from yesterday started to drain a lot of juice from my nexus 5X.
I have a non rooted phone and betterbatterystats with permission installed to check the process. I still can't manage what's wrong as there are so many other processes into Android System.
Is there a way to check wich one is causing the drain specifically?
Anybody experienced an high Android System drain this days?
The phone does not even go to deep sleep and it's always a bit warm so something is surely wrong.
Thanks in advance!
Hey,
i had the exact same issue no matter what rom i was on. Stock / debloated / purenexus, anything you can think of, including rooted and non rooted phone and held on the rom for at least 4 to 5 days. EX kernel with saving profiles didn't fix it either. No matter what i did (sync off, 2g network, no gps, no wifi on sleep, google hotword off etc) i had huge standby drain. Now, the culprit in my case was Google Connectivity Services and a qualcomm.com. +something i had to freeze after looking it up. It was a service that automatically switched from mobile data to wifi or vice versa i think, don't have my phones with me atm. Currently running on FEB Stock, rooted only to remove these 2 apps. Could help your case as well.
Cheers
Edit: Found it. It is Qualcomm's CNEService app, at least for me i can confirm that after removing this and Google Connectivity Services, no drain and mobile data/wifi/gps work just great and as intended.
