Hi out there
I don't know if I am the only one with this "problem":
I always was wondering, why no (max 1 or 2) apps are active. Finding out by having a look on the stock widget which shows the active/running apps. Wondering why SGW always starts at the main page (weather information) when returning form reading an article at News & Weather-app. Or why I always have to restart opera when receiving or reading an whatsapp in between.
Mostly I'm using the home button.
Problem now is, that I want to upload some photos to synology disc station. I am using the synology app browsing to the desired folder. While selecting the picture to be uploaded SGW switches to picturegalery in order to choose the file. Hitting the file (selecting) SGW returns to initial screen from synology app where you have to give credentials. So the operation is broken and you have to start again and again unable to upload anything. Same when I use webbrowser.
I guess that SGW kills the synology task while in galery. Same that SGW kills News & Weather while reading article. And so on.
Any solution???
I'm running stock rom 2.3.6, rooted, with V6 supercharger at level 6.
Thanks in advance
holydiver
V6 SC will kill apps in RAM.....to recover for active apps!!
Long press on Home key should bring up list of 6 apps by default.....and you should be able to return to any app.
It works for me, even with Tapatalk....I will leave....Tap Home key....do something else on phone....then long press Home.....be back in a sec!!!! .....
I'm baaack!!!!!
Just checked my Gmail and returned here by long press Home and selecting Tapatalk....brought me straight back where I left off.....
That is my experience!!!
level 6??

long press on home button brings up the last 6 used apps. Does that mean they are still in RAM?
Why does the widget tell me there are no active apps?
Maybe its an bug (sorry feature ) from the synology app!?

It all depends if there is ram available.... if not, they will not be in RAM.....but you should get back to where you were in App.
Android is not Windows.....see this:
http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/android
4. Task Management Android multi-tasks differently to a desktop OS such as Windows. This is to make better use of a phone's limited resources such as memory and battery. The part of an Android app that you generally open up and deal with (the graphical user interface, or 'Activities') don't multitask. If you press Home and open something else, the app you leave is frozen in memory and stops getting CPU time. Most apps on Android work this way, unfortunately including the stock browser which won't continue updating when you are away from it. Some apps use special threads of execution called 'Services' which always run in the background but don't interact with the screen. Start playing a song in the music player (or start a streaming radio app like Last FM) and hit Home to go do something else. The player interface (which may include a CPU-hungry equalizer visualization) freezes and won't do anything until you switch back into it. But the thread playing the music keeps running and your music keeps playing. Start playing a game and then hit Home. The game freezes and sits in RAM but doesn't take any CPU. You may read and respond to a text message then hold Home and select the game from the popup (or even open it from a shortcut in the launcher/on your desktop!). The game will resume from where it was. Start playing a game and then hit Home (again). The game freezes and sits in RAM. You can now open the browser and load a big webpage so that the phone runs out of RAM, forcing Android to dump your game from RAM. Later you hit Home to switch back into your game but it will restarts fresh, as though you weren't running it before. A variation on that last one: Some apps periodically save your state so they can return you to that instead of sending you right back to the beginning.

Also, not sure which version of V6 you are using..... this article is slightly outdated, but worth a read.

Android is praised for having 'real' multitasking. But why does it have to 'suck' on a phone with 1GB memory?
Chrome starts to reload 3-4 tabs only if it's the only app 'opened' (of course there are other background services. but I don't have much running services, map, google messaging service, keyboard, )
I think it could also be problem with app. app not releasing memory resource when goes to background.
But it's really annoying to see that apps activity needs to be created again from scratch after opening a few apps.
Please discuss your opinion here.

I don't have facebook running as I've said earlier. I don't even have it installed.
But I"m still not convinced that it's the BEST android multitasking could have. it's too aggressively killing background activity..

Get autokiller from the market and adjust the settings then. You want lower numbers in the app to allow more applications to stay active. Note that some apps might just kill background memory use, there's nothing you can do about that one.
Doing this might make your phone more laggy. You need to decide for yourself what the best trade-off is for you.
When exactly does it do it? I have 5 tabs open and I'm good! Is it after a while of inactivity?

It's not a refresh (like refresh web page), I think it's just re-rendered from the cache..
even though I'm android fan, I'm jealous how iOS manage to run pretty well for daily use with 512MB... probably dalvik JIT is culprit here?
I personally think this is a problem with chrome and this is the reason I don't like chrome because it runs a constant large service at 70+ mb at all times which takes away from general multitasking of the phone. My guess is this is related to your problem. Persistent services on android are rather powerful and when one is too large it has detrimental effects. Maybe others don't experience this with chrome, but I did, and that's why I stopped using it.
Yes, chrome is worse than stock browser.
Stock can maintain usually 4-5 tabs easily without reloading.
Hopefully Google could do something with both chrome and improve OS multitasking capability.
So i've only had the phone for a few days and started noticing lag mainly in the settings yesterday.
It was buttery smooth the first few days until yesterday. I'll try to create a clear description of what is happening.
Everything in terms of hitting applications, sliding/switching pages, and browsers seems smooth but I'm getting doubts since settings have started lagging. So as of now, the settings menu is where I really notice the problem. What happens is I would press any of the choices such as display, sound, storage, etc and it would light up blue as a sign that I pressed it. Basically, the blue lighting stutters/lags as it turns into a deeper color and fades away proving that there is some lag. That itself is very irritating on such a powerful phone. The page also lags a bit as it's opening so it's obvious that it does lag. I don't understand why something as simple as settings might be causing this?
have any of you guys noticed this? I tried clearing ram, restarting phone, messing with dev options by changing animation and something else to .5x while enabling "force GPU rendering." I'm running stock touchwiz on baseband T889UVALJ1 if that helps. Keep in mind i'm not really tech savvy so try to suggest things in an easy to understand way please.
Any help is greatly appreciated and I hope you guys can help me fix my problem!
Been using it for the past 1 month plus and I do not have any lagging issues. I am on stock rom as well.
No lag either, been using the Note 2 for 2 months now. Check your apps with BetterBatteryStatts (too many backgroundservices runing).
No lag either. Did u install some crappy apps that run backstage

Thanks for the replies so far and before I spend some money on apps or what not, is there any way I can post a 5 second animation of what is happening? Kind of like a 5 second gif of my screen? A mix of a screenshot and video so like a screen vid? Are there are any apps that can do that(preferably free). I'll try to find an app that can do that in the meantime and will edit if I find something useful.
Edit: No idea what this is or how it ended up on my phone but could this be the culprit? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tgrape.android.radar
People say it's bloatware and s-suggest from samsung but i'm not sure why it would be shown as an app on the play store website
I have noticed the phone can lag a bit if you have a heavy live wallpaper running.
Just sharing my thoughts on this
did you modify anything? no lags on my N2.
normally i'd say if you leave your phone on for a few days in a row, clear the memory every once in a while (press and hold home, go task manager, ram tab, clear memory) or reboot it, just so you dont have anything residual in your ram.
when android sees that you have 2gb of ram, it doesnt auto kill as many apps as it would if you were to have only 1gb of ram (my note 1 autokilled sooooooo frequently that it was annoying), so your ram ends up getting filled with some apps that you only used once in a while.

I wrote that I tried clearing ram and restarting phone but it didn't help. Thanks for trying though
Yeah, I get a bit of lag here and there, specially if I haven't cleared running/background apps in a while.
I just do it from the task manager, and also check out what apps are using the most battery, and possibly therefore are some of the likely culprits.
I actually use this app called Carat, which is an "Energy bug detector app" (whatever that means), but it helps identify apps that are draining the battery, and incidentally, partially contributing to the lag.
Also obvious thing like live wallpapers or touchwiz in general (including all the 'special' Samsung features like smart rotate, smart stay, smart motion) probably add to it to. Nova launcher and a static wallpaper might help.
I'll try to post a video sometime soon showing the lag. It's not serious lag, but it does stutter and lag a decent amount compared to my first few days which is what sucks.

You can try enabling Force GPU rendering in developers options. That usually helps with that, or at least it seemed to in my case. Report back if it actually helped
quick update:
I found a vid and my lag basically looks like this http://youtu.be/0qyijcTeHcU?t=2m27s
Look at when he clicks on display, there is clearly some lag even if it is half a second - 1 second. I'm almost certain that my lag is even worse than that, but not by too much. It's just a pain in the ass after the first few days. Would flashing a custom rom like jedi X 7.2 help out with this since it's running a bravia engine?

Actually it did :good: Unfortunately I've lost 10% battery within minutes of using the XDA App. Unticked...I clicked thanks for your help mate.
This problem occurred on CM10 and PA 2.99, the only two roms I've tried. I'm running hellboy's latest kernel. I am overclocked to 1400 mhz. zram is set to default.
When the phone starts, I have about 100 mb memory free and it runs great. I have removed all widgets from my home screen except Poweramp's remote.
However, after a few hours of use, the phone will run out of memory. I understand that is how android is supposed to work: all the memory is intended to be utilized. Unfortunately, when this happens on my phone, my music will turn off, programs will close, and apps behave so slowly that android will keep asking me if I want to force close them. When I look at my app manager of running apps I can see that I have no memory free and different apps are being restarted, usually 2-3 at a time. However, once they are restarted then several different apps start restarting themselves. The result is that the phone takes 5-10 seconds to switch to any action, and I also believe the battery is drained very quickly by this behavior as well. This does not stop until I restart the phone.
Is this happened for everyone else on the HTC one V and they just don't mention it, or am I the only one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Disable them! You could simply tap on them once press the 'Disable' button.. When I was on my Stock ROM.. unrooted.. I disabled many apps which made a big difference
if u overclock u will have battery loss, and and keeping apps widgets causes the app to run in the background removing the widget may speeden up, i face kind of ur same problem, but the ROM is in the beta stage so, i cant complain much, and android is intented to reboot atleast once very day, to clear the dns and other caches

You have a memory hog somewhere.. Mine is working perfectly fine and I believe everyone's One V is working as mine... so it is not a rom/kernel problem. It can be a hardware problem OR an app that hogs your memory.

Because I frequently need to type in Chinese, a language not available on PA, I installed multiling keyboard. It is actually the lowest memory consuming keyboard of all the ones I tried. I will uninstall messenger as you suggested and also reinstall whatsapp, thanks.
edit: seems that gokeyboard has a lower memory footprint at 18 mb. Anyway, for the time being it seems that I've got around 100mb free, which is good!

While listening to music, poweramp shuts off due to lack of memory and it takes 20 seconds to switch apps. This is on a clean wipe install.

maps, 7.2
maps, 8.7
whatsapp 8.7
facebook 25
google services 8.6
keyboard 17
Cached:
trebuchet
poweramp
yet I have no free memory and the phone is a sloth.
I notice when the phone is first started up for the first few minutes, there are 10+ cached processes and numerous running processes- yet the system overall still has 100 mb free and it runs like lightning.
I just got good deal on samsung galaxy tab3. I paid only £69 for a new one, before I had HTC Flyer which my children killed after few years of using. I expected technology moved forward and samsung to be decent manufacturer however to my surprise this tablet is extremely slow. Way slower then my grandpa HTC Flyer ever was!
It is lagging so much that it takes to press it sometimes 7 times for a video to go to full screen not to mention anything else. On top of that sometimes it does turn itself off!!!
So what is a reason fro that and what should I do. Should I send it back get refund and add few extra £ for Nexus 7 (I got nexus 4 phone I am delighted with performance and smoothness and with most of it's aspects), or should I root it and get custom rom (but then warranty is not an option). Is it typical for those tablets or do I have faulty one?
Sounds like a bad build. Exchange for another

so slooooow
hi,
i have a t210r.
svelte 4.1 runs nice.
ditch all the superfluous stuff - do not mess with fusedlocation.apk.
then build it back up with better quality more sensible apps.
use sdmaid to clean it good every once in a while.
use rom toolbox or systemcleanup to kill snoopy and pointless recievers and auto starts.
sslauncher is a lot nicer than nova [no go]
and appcache cleaner widget on the desktop is a good thing.
for a low end tab it really isn't that bad.
nexus 7 sucks for one major reason, no sdcard slot.
i'm telling you, the cloud could go skynet any time
for play you only need play, login service, and services framework apks
oh, and chrome [the swirly rainbow one] is awful.
use the stock stock browser, firefox seems to do okay
and i absolutely love mxplayer.
bye

Hi
This device have just a dual core CPU 1.2 GHz!! and you must not attend very responsive performance on this device with android 4.1.
But I offer you factory reset or a suitable custom ROM.
Totally, you shouldn't compare a mid-range tab like this to another(already systems were very incomplex than now as performance was better and more responsive)
