Surfing is a no go - Sony Smartwatch 3

I was wondering when and if this would happen. Lasted about 6 months and through about 9 surf sessions. This was session 10. I have a surf watch, but forget to swap it out sometimes. The funny thing is that it still works great, just lost a third of the screen. The damage was about a third more two days ago, but has receded a bit since then. Hope version 4 is a little more waterproof. Still love this watch. [emoji106]

Saltwater

it says NO SALTWATER .. it's not build for that!

Yup. Looking forward to seeing the day where I can get saltwater resistance to 33 ft, LTE, and Android all in one.

33ft down with LTE wow that would be record breaking wifi surfing..... (pun intended)

On the SWR50 webpage (at SmartWatch 3 SWR50), Sony is very clear about sea water:
The SmartWatch 3 is water and dust protected as long as you follow a few simple instructions: you can’t take the SmartWatch 3 deeper than 10m of water and for longer than 30 minutes; and the water should be fresh water. Casual use in chlorinated pools is permitted provided the SmartWatch 3 is rinsed in fresh water afterwards. No seawater and no salt water pools. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The SmartWatch 3 has an Ingress Protection rating of IP68.

I had no doubt that the seal would fail at some point. Like I said, the salt water exposure was unintentional. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. It still works great, and I'm looking forward to the day that a true sports smartwatch comes our way.

A sports watch ought to be salt-water proof. If for no other reason than to protect against sweat. I hope the SmartWatch 4 will correct this problem.

I'm amazed Watch stayed on during any crashes. Mine barely stays on when I clap my hands. I'll buy your band off you if you don't want it

Yeah, well I have accidentally dipped my watch in the ocean a few times, but not submitted it to this kind of abuse. However, this thread has me thinking about making a waterproof housing for windsurfing. That could be quite nice. Just a thought.

Yeah, I have thought about hat, but though I do not go deep, when I get pitched, and I do get pitched a lot, there is a lot of force involved. So, I wonder about the risk.

Water proof cases for cell phones and other devices

They actually make water proof cases so you put your phone into the case and still use it underwater if you are in the ocean or whatever.

My only questions would be do they make a bluetooth that is water proof? Also if your diving with your phone .... you have an addiction.
I'm skeptical about the screen being able to detect touch through that thing.
And it's so stylish!

i tested it with my g1, touchscreen works fine, but if you put it underwater the touchscreen gets all confused like you were using a crappy charger

probably due to the heat displacement.
Bobby why do you sound like crap?
Well my phone is in a sandwich bag
Uh, why is your phone in a sandwich bag?
I'm at the pool.
Your at the pool or you phone is?
My phone and I are at the pool and I'm trying to make sure my phone doesn't get wet.
Uh, why don't you keep your phone out of the water then?
LOL. I can see the need for these, but cracks me up just the same

Im sure it'll work fine. I can operate my phone with mechanics wear gloves on while doing yard work (changing songs) so this plastic should be no problem.
I do however wonder two things.
1. What pictures would it take in this thing...under water. Poor at best, but stay with me on this one.
2. What kind of reception would I get? I am tempted to go snatch one of my old G1s out of the kids toy tubs and take it diving just to take a picture and post it all while under water.
You guys obviously are not familar with the Sonar app, I think its called "ping" try it. Great for avoiding errant U-boats while diving.
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!
i heard another cheap way to protect your phone underwater is to use condoms. LOL

Sauna bad for the Evo?

Is da Sauna bad for the EVO? Just curious if its safe to use in the sauna after working out.
Thanks ahead of time
Probably wouldn't do that ... what with all the ... you know ... humidity?
Ya...was thinking the same thing. But sucks ...would love to show case the Evo --- the phone that can withstand heat. Lol

I would not do that without protection. Are you wanting to be able to talk on the phone? or just txt, email, etc? I bought a waterproof case that would protect the phone from the moisture damage and allows the touchscreen to be used.

Huh ...interesting. Just wanted to use it music and playing games. Today, I sat in there for about 15 mins and the temp (SetCPU) didn't get higher than 130 F.
Moisture ... humidity ...
That's what you'd probably want to worry about the most.
Good look on that link though, above.

NOT A BULL**** STORY
A friend of mine was in the shower, when AT&T called him. He answered and keep on bathing. The rep even ask him, sir are you in the shower, he said yea, she said do you want me to call you back later, he said no. She then told him how it was bad to take it into the bathroom at shower time, more less shower with it. Funniest part she was calling to sell him a something. It was an iphone, and it no longer works. Moral, i would not take it in the sauna, the moisture alone is gonna kill it.

The case is pretty bulky but works well. I bought it to use when I go biking, camping, etc to protect the phone. I bought it at Eastern Mountain Sports... tried out the phone in the case in store before buying and was happy to see that the touchscreen worked great. If you needed to talk you could use a cheap bluetooth headset.

Another ONE X "hard to break" video

I guess not posted here yet!
http://youtu.be/cuv0VMBkWZ0
crazy video
damn,its water proff...BIG LIKE!!!
never come s3
look this http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=e3ri6vrmPbc
I'm kinda confused, a lot of people complaining about screen being prone to scratch, a lot complaining about not being gorilla glass etc etc...
As the other guy how had his one x going down from the second window floor and still working fine.
Had switch my yellowish Xperis S to th one X that arrived at home today but i'm on a trip so tomorrow is a big day, huge expectation about it after frequenting this forum for like 2 weeks now!
Hopefully no screen flex, bad screen ripple, gps or any other issue!

How can that be possible cant belive ...
Wow these videos are amazing, at least i don't have to worry about my phone too much now. Especially after that one dude on here dropped his from a window and it survived
Beat that SIII
Shock & awe!
just plain wow! Now I'm prouder with my HTC One X more than ever!
Next time I get into an argument with an iPhone or Samsung user, I'm gonna smash his brains in with my HOX!!!!
Even better, someone should do a phone fight off video, where they smash the phones against each other, like HOX vs SIII or HOX Vs iPhone!!!
One day before my protective screen arrived I accidentally dropped my work phone over the HOXs' screen. It's a heavy blackberry and I was sure it would have damaged the screen. To my surprise there was not a single micro scratch there. Nonetheless the protective screen arrive and I´m happy to have it on
My HOX got run over
So today i dropped my HOX and my mates car ran it over... needless to say i was crapping my pants when i was picking it up to see the damage but to my surprise nothing!!!!! Not even a scratch, dent or anything! I am using a plastic case and a screen protector so that would have absorbed a lot of the punishment but still very happy no damage to the phone!

Yeah....when in Hawaii

Do NOT go snorkeling with your Note 4 in your pocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was the day of my friend's wedding and the groom and I wanted to go snorkeling before the sunset wedding......and well, I was out there about 30 minutes before realizing it was still in my swimsuit pocket.....
I knew there was probably no hope, doused it with alcohol, rice'd it for over a week......and of course it's dead. I luckily had my Note 3 with me in Hawaii so I switched to it, and I got myself a Nexus 6 for christmas...thankfully.
But here's a picture of the inside to cringe at!

First off, great username. Second, OUCH. Nice pic of the mess though, kinda one of those "and now I know" things.
You could always try an ultrasonic cleaner. I've brought back some phones back from the dead. Used isopropyl alcohol and ran them through couple times if they were really bad. Scrubbed everything with a toothbrush after and ran though the cleaner one last time. Sometimes you get some parts you might have to change out but something is better than nothing...
You're either from Hawaii or a climate that doesn't get snow. Somebody who only gets 3 months of warm weather would never have this issue.

Thanks for the pic that is crazy! It is hard to tell from the pic where are the other liquid damage indicators besides the one behind the battery. My 2 day old note 4 took a dive in the toilet and I got it out after a couple days all is back to normal but I was wondering if I tripped and damage indicators. Thanks

Man, that's unfortunate. At least you had the backup. I would say the thing that really killed it was salt-water. If you were in fresh water there may have been a chance, but that salt water messes stuff up quick.
Stop it with the snide comments. There is no need to be childish. Thread cleaned. Last warning.
And now we continue with our regularly scheduled program.

Sweet Mercy that looks painful!
Nice hack though, I'm always on the lookout for interesting hardware mods!
Question though, mine has started cracking too... anything other than aesthetics affected by it? Heart rate monitor or dust ingress? It would be good to know what to expect if my crack starts expanding... maybe I should dremel it preemptively?
Eek, how did you break it like that?!

call motorola and get a free replacement. No reason to have a cracked back! You even get a free charging cradle out of the whole thing (and I think the replacements are stronger because I haven't had an issue since I got it swapped)

I'm in that situation where I bought it from someone who bought it in the US, and I find myself in Canada... And Motorola isn't capable of shipping me a replacement, unless I give them a US based address... Seems like too much of a hassle really, everything else is fine, and it had this tiny crack when I bought it (the guy had small wrists, much smaller than mine). I check it every night before I put it on the charger, hasn't expanded at all.
Given some horror stories I've read online of DOA units, dead pixels that aren't covered by warranty and other things, I'd rather stick with my perfectly functional one . Worst case, I'll just dremel the edges to reduce strain.
Thanks for the advice though! :good:

The cracks happen when using wrong bands. The metal bands push against the glass back and they crack the glass. Normally the back won't crack when using the genuine strap. I had the pebble steel on the moto360 and saw the glass started damaging so I removed it. If I had it still on then it would have cracked almost certainly
There sure are! At Southern Straps we have NATOs for the MOTO 360
Check us out when you get the chance. Out straps come with a Lifetime Warranty and our founder came from the Android Wear project.
Our bands fit Apple, Pebble and all Android Wear watches!
