Battery life after android 6 update sucks - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Since I upgraded to android 6 my battery life got so much worse, I tried about 5 roms, still sucks. Why is this ? should I update radio or something ?
Thank you for reading

How many days are you giving it before trying another rom?

I have a similar experience updating stock OTA update. LP gave me more SOT prior to update. I then factory reset my M8 which improved battery slightly but still not as good as LP

Consider installing something like GSam Battery Monitor in order to figure out what's sucking down your battery.
Also, your battery life will be lower until you make a full round in your phone-- that is, using everything you normally use once or twice, as caches and the system optimizes to your usage. Consider giving a new ROM a few days to a week.
Consider also doing a full system / cache wipe before installing another ROM.

thx for the feed back guys, will try to give it time =)

Better battery life after update 2.3.6

Galaxy s2 didn't have great battery life when I first got it. I didn't do exact calculation, but it was terrible with minimum usage.
After updating to the latest firmware, I was hoping for improved battery life as stated. I was getting the same battery life as before. Nothing has change, except my storage space got a lot worst. The system data files was taking 900MB internally!
So i did a factory reset to clear out the junk in the system data folder. It's back down to 67MB. Restore all settings and apps back onto the phone and now getting much improved battery life.
So for those of you that updated and see no changes in battery life, try backing up all your data/sms and restoring to factory again.
Where did you get the update? I have recieved nothing ota. Still running stock 2.3.5. What other changes did you notice?
I think some people just get a bad battery. This phone has the best battery life out of the 20 or so Androids I have owned. But I have always conditioned it well. For example when I first got it I plugged it in and didn't unplug it till it was fully charged. Then used it till out was almost dead and repeated that for the first week. Seems to make the battery golf a better charge for its life time by song that in the beginning.

the t-mobile support forum for the GSII has instructions for updating manually. I'd post the link but i'm still too new apparently
When i did the update, the Kies software would detect my phone and do the update when i had USB Debugging unchecked.
My battery life has significantly gone down since the 2.3.6 update. I could easily get 2 days out of my phone and if I didn't use data, I could probably squeeze out 4 with minimal usage. Ever since the update, the Android OS has been my biggest Eater of Battery. It destroys it and I haven't really been able to correct it. Some days do better, and the others just drain it for no apparent reason. I'm not sure if it's the bloat ware causing it or what. I just wish the "Android OS" was more specific as to what's new about the update that requires it to murder my juice.
When I first got the phone (2.3.5), I did have a the Android OS problem eating my battery but I guess I fiddled with it enough to where it went away. I don't have a reason why.
I do use ZDBox and Android Assistant (both times) to help with program limits and stuff.
Would a system restore help out and does it wipe out all my applications?
The update made my phone better so to each his own.

[Q] Battery life poor since JB

Hi everyone,
My One X used to have brilliant battery life. I didn't turn on the screen that often throughout the day, but I was able to regularly check the news, send and receive texts, make a few calls and - crucially - keep my Wifi on for the entire day. With this setup, I was regularly getting 4 or 5 days of usage without having to charge my phone. However, as soon as JellyBean came along as an official update, I grabbed it... since then, I'm lucky if I get a day and a half out of it before I need to plug it into the wall.
I'm not running any custom ROMs: just whatever I get through official O2 OTA updates. Battery usage says that 36% of my drain is due to Android OS, with another 20% due to Maps. The rest are tiny, only 2 to 5%. Now I understand that a new version of Android might make some new demands on the hardware, but from what I heard, the update was supposed to improve battery life if anything. Even with the new Power Saver feature on, the difference is minimal, with only a few hours standby time gained overall.
Can anyone suggest anything to remedy this, or is this fairly normal? It's not world-ending and perhaps I was just really lucky to get 5 days of use in the first place, but thought I'd ask the experts before I grin and bear it. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
19 hours and 40 minutes into this usage cycle, I've got 57% remaining. So it's shaping up to be about 40 hours of usage, down from 120 at its peak. Right now, it's also saying that Android OS has used 99% of my battery... and nothing else is on the list.
Does no-one have any idea what's going on?
Did you make an hard reset when you updated your phone?
This is why when you upgrade your phone to a newer Android version it is better if you perform a hard reset

I suffer(ed) also under heavy drain due to maps since update to JB. But I'm convinced it's cause of Google Now. Disabled it yesterday and will check whether it gets better or not. Try disabling gnow and see if it gets better. I also had issues with gsam battery monitor in case you use this.

Thanks for this. Your suggestion got me checking for other people having issues with Google Now and battery life. I disabled it as you suggested and I'm definitely seeing an improvement. It's still not as good as it was, but I think I might be able to squeeze more than two days out of it now.
Do you have stock rom? Because I've just upgraded to JB yesterday and flashed a custom rom, and since then my battery is like 3 times more powerful.
You should definitely switch to a custom rom... Ever since I upgraded to JB I've seen a massive improvement in my battery life.. From barely making it through the day to almost 2days of my typical of usage.
Google Now does seem to kill battery as it polls the Google maps app a lot.. So I usually open task manager to make sure it isn't running in the morning background.

Android System and Android OS draining my battery since updating to 4.1.2

Bone stock, not rooted or rommed.
My battery life used to be phenomenal. I would check at the end of basically every day and averaged 4-8 hours of actual Screen On time. The Screen would account for 40-55% of the usage, followed by all of the*apps*that I had used that day. Android System and Android OS would be pretty far down on the list.*
Now that I have 4.1.2, I'm lucky to hit 3 hours of Screen On time. And now Screen, Android System, and Android OS are accounting for 20% EACH.
I haven't changed any settings or the way that I used the phone. The only thing that has changed is the update.*Is anybody else experiencing this?
I've gotten bettery battery life since 4.1.2, significantly better. Try to perform a factory reset or it could be a faulty device.

Yep and I have more or less tried everything including tweaks galore, every suggestion I coukd find, and freezing several dozen apps.
Nothing can be done about this and my guess is Samsung have made an absolute mess of the update. My HTC loses maybe 1% overnight on a bad day, this loses way over 10%.
I'll prob end up switching back to 4.1.1 but unfortunately it doesnt have the tap to reflow feature in the browser (which I use a lot)... I wonder if I can remove it via titanium and restore the newer version which would have reflow on 4.1.1 ??
I have the same problem. As soon as I took my phone off the charger this morning it dropped to 99%. On 4.1.1 it used to last for a good 20 minutes before dropping to 99%. Also last night after about 6 hours of screen time Android System was at the top of my list. And that is with 20 or so system apps frozen or deleted from running.
What's the easiest way to go back to 4.1.1?

Well I dunno.. I have tried everything and there is definitely a battery drain issue. If it is caused by ebay/whatsapp + facebook, then I'm curious as to why they don't show up in battery usage or betterbatterystats... and I'm also curious why the exact same setup on my HTC EVO 3D does cause these horrendous idle battery drains.

Yeah already done all that and there doesnt actually seem to be anything using over like 5%.. I have elimated the higher one yet it still drains ovwr 10% at nite. Or in general idleness.
What I became accustomed to with my previous phones was 0% or 1% drain over many hours if the screen was off. Not 2% or more an hour.

I had the same dreaded android os battery drain issue after updating to ma8. Used to have great battery life before that. After freezing Google search, Google now, still no use. Then i realized I installed another weather app at the same time I upgraded the os. Bingo. Un installed that offending app and that fixed the Android os battery drain issue. Hope this helps.

That's specifically my DBT rom (stock everything as well) and I've had battery issues and to be honest, it's still better than most other phones, but I'm getting about 40% less life out of my device now.
I have flashed again, I've reset, and deleted everything and still no luck. It's something with the ROM. I hope the next update will fix it. If it doesn't, I'll revert back to 4.1.1 because I would go to bed with 50% battery life, now I have to charge in the middle of the day if I want to get through a long work day with lots of use.

[Q] Battery drain after Looking lollipop update

My note 4 battery is draining rapidly after the lollipop update. I've read that some have had to do a factory reset and that has resolved the issue but (and forgive me for asking) doesn't that wipe everything from your phone? There has to be a better way. I've got so much music and pictures I don't want to lose and I'm not very savvy when it comes to transferring stuff.
Any thoughts? It's much appreciated!!!

Sorry you are having issues, but I am not. I get 5-6 hours of screen time on, 18+ hours. There has to be something some are doing that others aren't? Or maybe a certain app that doesn't agree with LP that some don't have installed.

Settings> Data usage> Mobile Data> uncheck enhanced 4G lte services
On kitkat I was seeing 5-6.5 hours of screen time. Now on lollipop I get about 4-4.5 Hours. I have done a clean factory install and wiped the cache. Android system is always at the top for me as well and it wasn't with kitkat. I actually have less apps and data on my phone now than I did on kitKat because I wiped everything. Ive been using lollipop for about a week now. This is obviously an issue within lollipop itself. I have mirrored the same settings that i had in kitkat, disabled as many useless apps and files that i can, and I'm using it exactly as I was on kitkat. Can someone just root this phone already?! PLEASE? (I won't hold my breath lol)

I noticed that just by changing that setting I get two days easy on one charge, please note that when I say two days I'm not on my phone all the time, typically I pull my phone out at work for demo purposes, I'm browsing the Internet on down time, I'm streaming music on my drive home or I'm texting or playing a simple game. Anyways, not sure why the enhanced services drains battery so badly but after I turned it off on kk and updated it was back on and I had horrible battery life, was gonna factory reset but then checked this and it was on again so now I'm back up to two days on a charge.
My first day running Lollipop I got around 5.5 hrs SOT and phone was on for more than 13 hrs and still had about 12% so I'm getting around the same battery life on heavy usage that I had on Kit Kat. I'm having no issues with Lollipop as of now. Before I downloaded Lollipop I moved all my important files to my SD card and then I updated. Right after the update, I went into recovery, cleared the cache and factory reset within recovery. I've had a very smooth experience ever since.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
I have found a fix that has worked for me without resetting. I cleared my cache partition and now I'm back to almost as good as it was. Not quite 100%, but it's a drastic improvement. I'd suggest trying this before doing a factory reset. It worked for me.
And FYI, I tried waiting for as long as I could stand it and it didn't get even a little better.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
No question about the Enhanced 4G LTE setting. I was already getting at least as good and probably marginally better battery life after 5.01. Turning off enhanced 4G services has given even much better battery life. Just as others have seen, Android system has dropped in usage. In fact it is amazing how long this phone can now go between charges.
After a week of 5.0.1 (see nothing difference of the interface cause ATT made it). I have to switch back to 4.4 for some of the features missing/not support and i got back my best battery life. It's ok in 5.0.1 but 4.4 battery is best.
In 5.0.1 i got around 3h screen time and it's drain faster.
Note: below is my 6months old battery. Not new

Horrible Battery Life on Nougat

So Just to announce where I am coming from, I am a Sony fan for the past 4 years, Had the Z2 and was totally blown away by the battery life it offered. Then I got the Z5P and even though the battery performance was nowhere near the Z2 I still got through an entire day with it without issues so I was happy.
Then came the Nougat update and all hell broke loose. I am literally getting just 6 hrs of battery life since the update. And even when it is idle it still drains battery like atleast 2 percent every hour.
Also the charging is very slow. I have a quick charger that used to take the battery life from 0 to 20 in atleast 10 - 15 mins. But now it actually drains the battery if I am using the phone while charging. And yes I have switched off the battery optimization option.
Any help will be appreciated even if it is just a confirmation that I am not the only one having this issue, which will at least let me know that it is not just my phone.

Oh did not know this could happen. Will definitely try doing a full wipe and see how things go! Thanks a lot!
I never fully trust OTA updates, because it keeps all the applications data and some special case of your current configuration maybe is not "converted" to the new version and causes the programs to behave weird. Have you looked at the battery usage? Maybe you find the process which a huge % of battery eaten, and just wiping that app data is enough

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I looked at the battery usage stats and no specific app is draining more than 2 percent of the battery over a charge. The only things that have taken most out of the battery are 1. The Screen On Time which is to expected and 2. The Idle Phone which takes around 15% consistently in every charge.

after updating to .372 , i learned from internet that this build has battery draining issues. ( i never faced any )
after updating to .376. , the phone is as steady stable as my other xperias (btw z5p is my 6th xperia )
now there is however a catch.
1. if you updated on OTA , this means the update of 1.2gb via ota only replaced certain files from .305 to make it .372 build (android 6 to 7) --- such OTA updates USUALLY ends up having problems (in general) with battery draining issues. Such problems i personally faced during updating from honeycomb to ics. - in short whenever update is available; always install FRESH
2. if your bootloader is locked then use xperia companion to install fresh after wiping all data. (makebackups)
3. if your phone is not rooted then try disabling all un necessary apps under Apps section.
----
Trivia
You cannot compare Z5p with predecessors like Z3/Z2/Z1 and Z since
1. they were always smaller in screen size / resolution and were not 4k
2. They stops at Android 5 / 6 as their last builds and battery life was awesome w.r.t consumption

however some of friends on XDA agrees that .305 (android 6.0.1) (came out dec2016) is the BEST build ever for z5p. addressed all battery issues and it was the final build for z5p on android 6.0.1

EDIT: Re-upgraded once again= battery 8 hour life. Go into About Phone, Status and disable battery optimization. The handset reboots and incredibly this morning it was like the old days .

Maybe I'll try that. The best I was able to do was 21 hours with one bar LTE, 6 hour's sleep, and 3h40m screen on time with several hour's worth of Pocket Casts.
i confirm that on build .33 i lost my battery even on stamina mode one percent every 10 minuets over using wifi , it just keeps the battery when device is screen off -_- its horrible i didnt have this kind of problem with .253 and im wondering revert back to MM
