First of all sorry for my bad english, im from germany ^^
I bought a microsoft lumia 950 and i like it very much, but actually im use an Galaxy s6 with my normal android apps.
And i really need these apps on my lumia too. I've read a lot about project astoria, the wconnect.exe tool and xap apps, but astoria is dead and the wconnect.exe tool doesn't work for me (allways getting error-8).
And now my question, is there another possibility to install/sideload android apps or any other apps ?
Device: Microsoft Lumia 950
Software: Win Mobil 10
Version: 1511
Build: 10.0.10586.11
Firmware : 01078.00027.15506.02027
i search for apps like : Youtube , Playstation network, Playstation messages, real instagram etc.
i would be very grateful for your help !

It is called sideloading apps. So yes - you can sideload apps - just like you can sideload apk files on android.

Hi i`ve just recently bought a Nokia Lumia 1020 from china..
And joined windows 10 insider fast ring, i`ve had no problems upadating this phone from windows 8.1 to the latest
offering from microsoft, but for the life of me i cannot downgrade back to win 8.1
I`ve read all the tutorials i`ve done numerous soft & hard resets tryed different usb cables tryed different ports unistalled and reinstalled
WRT..
Now here is the thing that i don`t get,
When i connect my phone to my PC running win 7 WRT recognises my phone and then proceeds to tell me that there isn't
anything available on the server..
So i have held the volume button down & power pressed in, and restarted WRT to find my phone which it does and then proceeds to download a new rom.
But the new rom is for a different phone.. this is the rom downloaded by WRT
RM877 3051 50009 1451 1 RETAIL nam att 205 01 473928 prd signed.ffu
My installed rom is RM-875-apac_hong_kong_223
first of all : why downgrade? have problem with w10?

yes of course 1020 has great camera
but im not sure every people with 1020 who upgrade to W10M have this problem...

Still does not answer the question why i`m struggling to down grade back to win8.1 though & why the server is downloading a different
file i.e mines 875 and yet the downloaded file is 877, or is it compatable, and why does my phone reject the install?

lumia denim is an old firmware update on windows phone 8.1 i think...
but i dont know if u need it if u are on w10m...
and for your downgrade...i dont know why u have problem...
maybe try to post on Windows phone 8 section...

Not sure if its working at all in Lumia 1520. I am on .164 buld, did phone reset and lost both glance and hey cortana. Previously they didnt work on 1520. Glance gave me briefly settings then go black, and Hey Cortana was giving me "Not suported for this phone"...

place "Heycortana.xap" at documents folder and open it.
check for updates in store to get latest version
Erase WMAppPRHeader.xml inside xap arhive and deploy using vpv xapdeployer. On lumia 640xl dual sim i have this message when open hey cortana from settings: this feature is not available for your phone. I will try to change PhoneSOCVersion . (HKLM\SYSTEM\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo)

I'm upset. Reinstalled my back up of WM10 10586.164 on my Lumia 1520 and the above apps are not available anymore.
As I'm new to all this I could do with advice to try and install them somehow as they are the best apps on the market at the moment and the stock maps app suggested I walk home instead of a bus I know.
Please help I'm on windows 7

I think there is the restriction.
Note that the guideline is for devices which are running Windows 10 TH2.
I have successfully installed Windows 10 Redstone on my Lumia 520 with build 14393.67, so I post this topic for those who want to experience Windows Anniversary on a limited hardware device like me.
Firstly, you need to ensure your phone is "interop" and can be changed its registry. If yours can't, you can refer to the previous post "Interop Tools Appx for Windows 10 Mobile - registry editor" written by @dxdy

Secondly, change your phone information to "Lumia 950 XL" (After installing the interop tool included in the link above - version 1.7 is recommended)
Open the interop app, navigate to Registry Browser
HKEY_LOCAL_MICHINE/SYSTEM/Platform/DeviceTargetingInfo, then change:
PhoneManuafacturer: "NOKIA" --> "MicrosoftMDG"
PhoneHardwareViriant: ----> RM-1085
PhoneManuafacturerModelName: ---> RM-1085
PhoneModelName: ---> Lumia 950 XL
Important: If you are participating in Insider, you MUST STOP it. Otherwise, you won't receive any builds even Fast/Slow/Release Ring
Go to Update/Check update --> if you see the anniversary build, just waiting as usual. If not, install Upgrade Advisor from the Store, then check
Sometimes, you need to check by both ways (Settings/check update and Advisor) in turn to get updates.

For those who are using WP8.1, you can search "How to interop WP 8.1/ change registry" to upgrade to Windows 10 TH2 first, then apply my guideline, it's supposed to be working fine too.

Indeed, I understand what you are worried
Needless to say, because of limited hardware, so the device will got stuck sometimes if you open more apps or "heavy apps" like Facebook (>300MB), Messenger (>200MB). However, in genneral, I feel it is even better than TH2 545 actually - opening apps faster, smoother, lots of interesting changes we need to explore.
I am happy with this anniversary build

As far as I know, it's okay if your phone has 1GB of RAM. Otherwise, there is no way.

How to remove OEM apps from MainOS.bin , data.bin ?
How to REALLY customize ROM to make it a custom rom? I want to remove default wallpapers and add new walls and ringtones.
The only thing I managed to do is root access and permanently interop unlocking.
I searched on MainOS partition and dont find any XAP(I thought they batch installs when it says 'few more apps needs to install').
I want to do more with 8.1 and Windows 10 roms.
Anyone here to help me with it ?

Think about personalize setting of Edge like adblocker by default with hosts file and default home page, default ringtones, new sms tones and all new tones from redstone 2 and new wallpapers and boot and shutdown image and many more... just like old symbian days.

No SBL-3 bro. I dumped the main os and EFIESP and unloked and used permanently unlock registry entries and flashed with main os.bin

But there is no FFU Win10 for 1320 and without Masse Storage Enabled how you whant to do?
rs rom for 1320 is coming from Djtonka very soon. If we can manage to create for 8.1 then we will create for wm10 for sure.

Rooting all kind of phones nowdays, but cant handle with nokia lumia 1320 sorry dude. it is imossible.... phone like every other. no way... there was a period when i had 1320 in my hand windows 10 on it provided by mictrosoft (i dont remember how they called that programm slow/fast) but still Big Brains of A IQ About 145 cangt figuure out how to install Windows 10 in to a phone. impssible cuz you dont have 3ps.xst some kind of a file.... how come... you take windows, erase rest of the S/it and put Windows 10 Back on. Insiders Top Version. No Can do. Why is taht? can someone explane me, im Hillbilly no understand Java Lingua. please?!

For the 1320 (RM-995 specifically) it can be a pain, because it has a duplicate package that you'll need to work around and it over heats at times (mine did anyway). We have to use iutool to send the Windows 10 Mobile cabs to the phone to update it. There is a thread for offline updating the Lumia series phones to Windows 10 Mobile.
