When through my storage i seem to have lost 12gb to other. I don't know how I lost it but I'm hoping someone could help. Flashing a different from it resetting doesn't help but I'm hoping someone knows.
You haven't lost anything. The data that's currently taking the space just doesn't fall under any of those categories.
No mystery here.

Tap on other and it will show details. 9gb or so will be system data.

I just went through and cleared a few gigs of crap and old backups off my internal storage, but when I check how much space is available, it doesn't reflect this. It says I only have 700mbs available still, but the bar and numbers clearly indicate I should have more than that. Here's a screen shot for a better idea of what's going on http://www.imgur.com/sIt8G.png
Has anyone else had this problem before or know how I can fix it?

Bump.. I have booted inti recovery and cleared cache in hopes of it cleaning it up, but nothing. I also searched Play for a sd card clean up app, I found sd maid, but no success there either. I'm really trying to avoid backing up everything and wiping the card..

I can't see your pic bc of my work's firewall, but you may want to take a look at this thread here from the ATT side. --->Missing storage space
Also move to Q&A

Perfect. Thanks alot for that link, that thread linked to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33918194 and seems to answer my question.
I was trying to transfer some photos from my note 2 to my computer and I accidentally deleted them through finder in the android file transfer app. I think they may have been in the internal phone memory and I really want to get these pictures back please help.
Google recova or something like that
It finds them on pc and sd cards

I don't think they were on the sd card because in my gallery i can see two different types of folders one says camera and the other one says camera with a lil pic of an sd card on it and they got deleted from the first folder
If you're rooted you can use Hexamob Recovery or Undelete For Root Users. Otherwise search the Play Store for file recovery apps, but there's a chance you have to be rooted for one to work.

I'm not rooted and haven't been able to find any apps that can recover...the pics were on the phone's internal memory and not the sd card which is why I'm guessing that these recovery programs i downloaded on my mac haven't been finding anything to restore

even if they were deleted from internal storage?
Try it and see. If it doesn't work, root the phone. They all work for internal memory if the phone is rooted. Been there, done that.

The longer you wait, the more likely you won't be able to recover. Those areas they were stored may get written over again. Just try. At this point it seems you have nothing to lose.

Well its a matter of the data being over written by newer data. He can wait days without overwriting and still be able to recover it.

I think that's what I just said.
If you do need root for any of the recovery apps, install exynos abuse (found in these threads). It's a quick apk install and a quick button click to gain root. I just hope installing yet one more app doesn't write over those sectors. Perhaps as a last resort.

I need to root my phone so I can recover photos that were lost by a factory reset. Is there a way to do this non-destructively? Alternatively, is there a good way to recover photos from a non-rooted HTC One? The lack of USB Mass Media is a huge hindrance here.

Pretty sure that's impossible.
They are gone for good.

It may be possible if you can find someone that can jtag it. If not the only way I know that might even work is to do a chip off with data carving but that is a destructive route. Next time use dropbox or G+ to auto sync your pics.

Not impossible since a factory reset does not do a full format.
But it is extremely difficult and will almost likely end in having to remove the on board SD card from the phone.

Doesn't rooting wipe the entire phone though?
Nope. I didn't lose a thing when using rumrunner

A factory reset should fix that issue.

Thank you so much for this. I backed up, reset, and I'm restoring now but its reporting 26gb. free instead of 11gb.

Was wondering if there was a guide or pictures showing the phones memory right out of the box. Probably a strange request but I want to COMPLETELY clean my phone.
Ive done factory resets and wipes in twrp but i would like the cleanest device possible. Meaning like new out of the box memory without any stragglers(random files etc.)
Is this possible?
