[Q] How to see files on PC via usb instead of only folders? Nexus 7 2013 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I'm trying to delete/move/modify some files on my Nexus 7 2013, but when I set my N7 to MTP, i'm only able to see folders and none of the files inside the folders, it shows 0 files in the folder
Example:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Is there something that's making it so I can't view the files or do I just need to do something in windows in order to see them?
In the above example, with Root Browser app, I am able to see files in that folder
Being told that windows is showing /storage while root browser is showing /data
Is there anyway to get into /data on windows or is that not possible?

It's a bug of Media Storage app.
open MS app
clear data
reboot N7
Access all files on PC

Thanks, that pulled it up.
Though it doesn't really help with what i'm trying to do..
Thing is, I don't want to look at the /emulated files, I want to look at the files in /data/data, and connecting as MTP only is showing me files from /emulated

You ain't going to see root stuff from MTP on unpatched kernel.
As for the MS app, it really has a known and persistent bug which needs manual db refresh.

Yes, for MTP.
Alternatively, with "adbd Insecure" you can access root files with adb.

I get nothing, no changes whatsoever, even if I manually change the icon. Could be since I am using WindowBlinds/IconPackager I guess
Love it thanks!!!!

Certain antivirus or anti mareware program prevent .inf from autostart.
Too bad, I can't advise on this.
Rest of guys, do often check on the .inf file for changes. Certain mareware can hijack .inf for it's auto luanch.
It also works in Ubuntu 9.10. Nice.
This is pure awesome manifested in a simple icon
I use a similar icon for my g1 on my mac.

Awesome, thanks!
can someone make an icon for me like this guy "down8" but with a mytouch please
Don't seem to work for me, vista, or XP
**Edit** works if you turn off debug.
I've been using this icon since about a week after the G1 came out - probably needs updating, since the bronze G1 in the icon is running 1.0...
Like I said, pretty out of date, but if anyone wants the .ico, let me know.
Nice, thanks alot man although the icon can be a little smoother. Kind of pixely.

Found a Bug in latest bada2.0 beta!!

Try to create a folder named Themes in phone memory. AN error will appear preventing you from doing this.
Warning : do not create this folder by connecting your phone to computer . This will put your phone in reboot loops.
I just flashed my phone after doing that...
Maybe chance to repair via *.pfs Deletelist... next time...
Not sure what exact happens. As few Security thingies stronger...
Boot Cycle is bad to handle...
Maybe S8600 easier, as full Qualcomm... maybe then FTM is possible...
Then maybe access to filesystem possible... to repair... MAYBE.
Best Regards

I too created a "Themes" folder on my phone using my computer whilst connected in debug mode however I found it had changed to "New Folder" a bit later when trying to copy a theme in there...
Strange behavior indeed.

Anybody can replicate ChatON can't add buddy from Android version of ChatON?
I can't add any contact from any of my friends that's using ChatON for Android.
It's prohibited to create folder named "Themes" in the phone memory directly on the headset because that folder is protected and hidden, because there are themes downloaded from Samsung Apps (and they are encrypted). So they are available only in menu: Settings - Display - Theme. But it's possible to create that folder connecting the phone to computer in Kies Mode (by default) and put there our themes in smt file. And then folder will be visible in My files, themes (smt files) will be there, and it's possible to send them to someone else via Bluetooth etc.
It's not a bug, bada has protected that name for a new directory as 'Themes' is used as a system directory by the OS.

Gallery is broken

Somewhere between flashing different ROMs, my gallery seems to have broken. I've added some new pictures but they're all broken, too. When you click on one of the (blank) thumbnails, it just says "Thumbnail not available"
Any idea how to fix this? It's like a cache that needs to be rebuilt or something.

it appears that you have deleted the thumbnails but the picture data is there. Check if you can transfer the pictures to your computer.

I can. I took that screenshot on my phone and selected it with Root Explorer (so I could actually see a thumbnail). But even though I created that screenshot AFTER all this happened, it still doesn't have a thumbnail and won't display in the Gallery app.
By the way, I'm running Gummy 0.3.8 with his latest GApps. It worked in the past on Gummy; I honestly can't remember when it broke or what I did to cause it.
it appears your thumbnail data has been moved or deleted. Use root explorer and look around the DCIM folder inside the SD card

Yup, it was there. I tried deleting it, nothing. I ended up deleting all the photos (they're originally from my computer) and tried re-adding them. They still aren't displaying. My G+ albums are displaying just fine, though.
Okay, where is your thumbnail folder located inside DCIM? Is it inside another folder or is it there when you first open DCIM?

/sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails/
Edit: Fixed it! I tried wiping dalvik/cache and reflashing my ROM with no luck. Also tried deleting all the photos, deleting the thumbnail photo, wiping Cache from the Gallery app in Settings > Apps > Gallery, none of it worked.
Here's what worked:
1. Use RootExplorer to navigate to /sdcard/Android/data/
2. Delete com.android.gallery3d and (if it's there) com.google.android.gallery3d.
3. Relaunch the gallery app.
4. ???
5. Profit!
same problem
Not working for me deleted com.google.android.gallery3d with root explorer still no thumbnails. I'm running codename android 1.4. Anymore suggestions?

Delete photos downloaded in data/user/0/com.android.providers.downloads/

Dear friends,
I have encountered an uncommon bug. Actually unsure whether it's a bug or not. Namely, when I download certain photos from the Google app on my OnePlus 5T, they do not get downloaded to local storage like other photos, but to the path written above. Furthermore, I am unable to delete these photos, unlike all other photos, and they can only be accessed through the Downloads app. The gallery does not list them. Has anyone encountered this error before? The images below show you my problem.

im sorry, i just checked and you cant acces that direction without root, so its not a bug because where you download photos from that app, its private to that app only location (unless to system apps or root with root-access apps) and you should be able to delete those with Downloads app, as far i can see from that photo, its cache photo so if you are not able to delete that photo (you should able to do that) then you should try to clear Downloads app's clear data from apps manager (you Can lose your downloaded data if they are not in normal Download folder or somewhere else in storage where all apps can access them)

So the question is: Why are photos downloaded from Google downloaded there.
Are you sure that is the only copy? Because that file in cache folder, for example open fx Explorer enable hidden files go to dcim/.thumbnails you will see a lot of low res photos, including deletes ones

Google DocumentsUI R [Android 10+]

I clarify that it is not a flashable zip since it is difficult to extract the files in system/ & system/product therefore you must unzip paste each file in its folder and of course give the necessary permissions and restart
additionally, documentsui can be hidden in android 11 to only work in configuration or give permissions in other browsing applications if you already have Google Files in the application drawer, if it makes sense to hide DocumentsUI

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Important notice I must clarify that before installing Google DocumentsUI you must remove DocumentsUI AOSP only if it is this version in the path system/product/priv-app/DocumentsUI remove it and then remove the data to avoid Bootloop in data/data look for the com.android.documentsui folder and delete it in Android 11/12 the folders in data/data are in random numbers and letters you need to manually find the folder that is related to DocumentsUI the same process of deleting

Good morning, sorry for the inconvenience, but if I copy those Files to a TV Box that does NOT have a Native DocumentsUI File manager, can it help me to see the data/data files? I don't currently have access to the data/data folder in any way, as I don't have a native application to manage files. Thank you.
