Cannot install ADB - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hope somebody can help since I'm getting crazy...
SF = Asus ZenFone 2 551ML - No Root - FW = 139
PC = Windows 7 64bits Home Premium
Objective: get phone rooted
Following the procedure described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596, I installed the drivers first (OK) and tried to install, as admin, ADB (15 seconds installer), but I always get " 0 file(s) copied" (system wide as well as local user).
Infact when I open the prompt and execute the "adb devices" command, I get "adb is not recognized as internal or external command".
I tried with version 1.0.3, 1.4.2 and 1.4.3... but it's always the same result. Now I'm stuck.
Thanks for any clue and help you can provide.

Hi,
1. Download USB drivers here instead -> https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices
2. Install this ADB app instead -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Let me know then.

[Q] any idea on getting root

i know it just came out and all but my room mate got one and we were hoping someone will look for root i have an evo so i dont think i can help him much plus i dont know code so just wondering
thanks
I bought the Motorola Bravo which is similar to the Flipside and an app on the market called Z4ROOT was able to root the phone. It works on many phones not just the Bravo. Give that try and see if it works.
z4root does work for permanent root i have tried and can confirm

Rooting a Motorola Flipside
Download drivers for the phone:
http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Support/Experiences/Global_Drivers/USB_Drivers_bit_4.7.1.zip
With the phone unplugged from the USB, install the drivers
grab the ADB SDK files
http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r08-windows.zip
Extract SDK files somewhere you will remember, and can easily type (for ease of use only)
Download z4root:
(you may need to sign up to download)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=446145&d=1290341328
Copy z4root.1.3.0.apk to your SDK folder
ON YOUR PHONE:
go to Apps Menu->Settings->Applications->Development and check "USB debugging"
Plug in your phone, and have it set to "Charge only"
go to the command prompt, and type
cd C:\"PATH TO SDK" <ENTER>
Now, type
adb install z4root.1.3.0.apk
Once that is complete, you can now go find Z4 in your programs list. I chose "permanently root". Your phone will
reboot, and then you are rooted.
Unknown sources is still disabled at this point, but you can now install apps that require super user
Tonight, I will try to enable "Unknown Sources" on my flipside.
UPDATE: To get "Unknown Sources" enabled, go to this thread:

Got my Flipside rooted and non market apps allowed
I followed the instructions given at modmymobile dot com forum. Look up "fully unlock 3rd party apps backflip" It allowed me to root my phone and install non market apps. I tried and tried to follow the instructions given here, but i guess they weren't idiot proof. It is for the backflip, but it worked perfectly for my Flipside. I couldn't post the link here.
Someone found some typos in my scripts. I have updated them so they are accurate. Should make things run better.
Hey I kinda need some help. I've gotten through all the way to entering "adb install z4root.1.3.0.apk" into the command prompt but all I get is a message saying "adb" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Anyone have any ideas on how this could be happening?

Lets say you installed your SDK in the default folder, you would need to type
Code:
cd c:\"Program Files"
cd Android
cd appinventor-extras
Now, I put mine in c:\SDK, so all I type is
Code:
cd c:\SDK
you either must add the SDK to your PATH, or find the directory that you installed it to, and then try running adb from there. If adb.exe isn't in the folder, you aren't in the right folder.

RZ4root does not appear on the marketplace and when I click the link above it starts to download, then says the content is not supported on my phone.
Model num MB508 Motorola Flipside running Android 2.1 update 1.
You need to push it to the phone from a computer using adb to install z4root, now that it has been removed from the market.

adb.exe is not present in the SDK that you linked. Are you sure that is the SDK we need to root the Flipside?
You have to install it manually. It comes with the platform-tools.
how do i install adb.exe from platform-tools
lol, i may ask stupid questions but this one wasnt me, i shouldnt leave my laptop lying around haha

Notice:
For anyone having trouble rooting the Motorola Flipside with these instructions, after much trial and error I managed to get my girlfriend's rooted. I'll provide the method I took.
Note: The easiest way to do this is to have downloaded and extracted "android-sdk_r08-windows" directly to your (C: ) drive. Not under programs or another system folder.
Once you have it extracted to (C: ), copy and paste z4root.1.3.0.apk into the "android-sdk_r08-windows" folder. ADB.exe will most likely not be in here. What you have to do now is click on SDK Manager within the SDK folder. A Black Command window will pop-up, ignore it. A secondary window will pop-up prompting you to install the packages I went ahead and installed all of them (better if you don't know which to install).
Now that they've all been installed, a command line will state that ADB has to be restarted. Let it restart and it should say completed.
Now -- here's where everything was messing up. When you click open the SDK-R08 folder, you should have the z4root.apk file right there amongst a list of folders. Go to the "platform-tools" folder and in there you should see the ADB.exe file. Ignore that for now. While in platform-tools press Ctrl+A so that everything is highlighted. Right click and select Cut, back out to the main directory of the SDK R08 folder and select Paste so that the ADB.exe, .dll, and all the other files from within platform-tools is out and listed alongside the z4root.apk.
Next - Follow all of the instructions up to "Plug in your phone, and have it set to "Charge only" Like JonsJava said, open up command prompt (type in CMD in the "search programs and files bar"). If you extracted the "android-sdk-r08-windows" file directly to the (C: ) drive, all you have to type in is...
(Note: Before I go into that, it'll be easiest to rename the file "SDK" instead of the whole "android-sdk, etc, name... I'll complete the instructions assuming you renamed it to SDK. Continued below... all you have to type in is...
cd C:\SDK
(The next line below will look like this)
c:\SDK>
Here, type in... adb install z4root.1.3.0.apk
Total should look like... c:\SDK>adb install z4root.1.3.0.apk
Hit enter and it should go through a few instructions. From there look in the applist on your phone for z4root, click on it and select permanently root. Your phone will restart. From there you're rooted (test by downloading an app which requires root) and don't have to worry about the low memory issues every again. Glad I got the Captivate, lol. So much easier to root, rom, and overclock.
Last note:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
This is what the main directory of the SDK folder should look like before you enter anything in the command line.
I don't seem to be able to get this...
I'm using x64 windows 7, I have a Flipside MB508 on 2.1, and I can't get this to work.
I followed all the instructions, updated all the platform-tools stuff, and now my problem lies with the driver, I believe.
I installed those Motorola drivers that were linked, with my phone unplugged, successfully..
copied the apk to C:\SDK...
found adb.exe in the platform-tools folder..
...and this happened..
C:\SDK\tools>cd C:\SDK
C:\SDK>cd platform-tools
C:\SDK\platform-tools>adb install C:\SDK\z4root.1.3.0.apk
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
C:\SDK\platform-tools>adb install C:\SDK\z4root.1.3.0.apk
error: device not found
C:\SDK\platform-tools>_
"error: device not found" every time i try this
USB debugging is on, phone is plugged in set to charge only..
Windows even sees it, the taskbar eject icon says 'Eject MB508"
please please help me get adb to see my phone.. I really want to be able to root this thing!!
EDIT: I noticed the Motorola drivers are 32bit.. I'm going to try 32 bit windows 7 instead of 64 bit and see if I get more successful results
EDIT 2: Bazinga!! Installed Win7 32 bit on my other HDD, booted up, followed the steps again, worked flawlessly! Thanks a lot for the easy instructions, got z4root installed, and my phone worked with permanent root

You wrote in here that once rooted, thebphone would no longer have low memory issues...i rooted my wife's phone, was able to sideload applications (but for some strange reason I am now unable to, as adb command prompt states 'device not found')- but she still gets low memory issues at least 2-3 times a week...

Link2sd? What does this do? I briefly looked at the thread, but it is not entirely clear. The flip side is running 2.1. With this app, can we free up space by moving apps to the sd card? I thought that was only possible in 2.2?

[Q] Desire HD (2.3.3) OTA cant boot (s on)

hey guys,
i am new to xda and i need your help please.....i did the OTA update few days back and downloaded the visionary+ but the visionary gets stuck on the black screen and nothin happens and i also downloaded the gingerbreak v1 it gives a error of could not extract assets error, i read everything regarding this error but nothing help can you please help me on who can i do a S-off and enter the recovery mode and install the rom on the OTA 2.3.3 in desire HD......i dnt know how to use adb commands (i dnt have SDK).....please help me
I don't think there's a root option available for that firmware. You will likely have to make a gold card, temp root, downgrade, then perm root it. It's really not hard, and you will just need to copy/paste commands found in instructions. Just be sure to read the instructions through completely one or 2 times first, and then follow them well.
But you can boot up normally right? Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152233
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
i read the post, also downloaded the downgrade and ran "run thi for root" but a CMD prompt opened up and it closed automatically after few secs.....and i dnt know hat is adb and adb sheel and how to use it....i tried typing the adb code in the CMD prompt but gave me an error message saying something internal or external........i also tried using gingerbreak but giving me an error message of something extract assets.......please help ppl
It means that you've fail to execute step 3 in the guide right? Then use adb process. It refers to use direct command from android software developing kit. Download the android sdk tool from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html (recommended to use web installer, Java runtime required)
Usually it will create sdk folder in C:/ local disk. In the folder, shift+right click tools folder and click command prompt. Enter the command lines in the guide and continue.
You can't use gingerbreak on android build above 2.37. As I assume that you have applied OTA with at least 2.42. Is that correct?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
ya i have a 2.42 after the OTA........i think its the third step, i have the android sdk but i dnt know how to use it, i need the sense3.0 rom desperately....hope you can help me with the sdk thing

Instead of Goldcard Helper when making your goldcard...
- Open up a command prompt (Windows Key + R, type "CMD", press enter)
- connect your phone as "charge only" and have usb debugging enabled
- type: cd "c:\htc ace toolkit\resource" and hit enter (if you've already extracted my toolkit)
- Now type:
adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc2/mmc2:*/cid
-Select and copy the cid, then paste into the appropriate field on the Goldcard Generator webpage.
You will now get a proper image, that once applied, will give you a proper working Goldcard to copy the PD98IMG.zip to and downgrade your device. and can now start with the fre3vo downgrade.

[HOW TO] Root a bootloader-unlocked Xperia Pro MK16a

There is now a MUCH easier way to root ALL Sony Ericsson 2011 phones including the Xperia Pro, making these instructions obsolete. Please see DooMLorD's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319653
Remember to say thanks to DooMLorD for his awesome work!
However, I'll sill keep the 2 sets of instructions here in case anyone needs them or wants to refer back to them. My ZIPs do have all the drivers needed with good instructions on how to install them after all
My original instructions based on alvaroag's work can be found below, and the instructions via my instructions the Xperia Pro CWM Recovery method can be found on post 50 of this thread.
It's important to note that DooMLorD's tool only works for Windows. You can still use our original method in this post if you're running Linux.
We finally have a method to root the Xperia Pro MK16a (and PROBABLY MK16i) thanks to XDA Member alvaroag!!
This is his method, with the instructions modified by myself for ease of use.
What you need before you begin:
1. A rock hard stomach, because should the very unlikely happen and this brick/damage your phone in some way, I’m not responsible
2. An Unlocked Bootloader
NOTE: Sony offers a totally free, official, and simple method to unlock your bootloader here: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/
Should that not work for you, your phone is probably SIM locked from your carrier (FIDO for example does that). You'll need to get the bootloader unlocked remotely from someone who has SETool and the appropriate security USB dongle. THIS COSTS MONEY, as SETool requires that user to pay per use.
Please see this thread for further instructions as it's the method I used personally: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232050
Alejandrissimo was awesome at helping me through it.
3. On the phone itself navigate to the following locations:
a. Settings - applications – Make sure Unknown Sources (first option) is checked
b. Settings – applications – development – Make sure USB Debugging is checked
4. Download this archive. It contains all the files and drivers you will need:
http://www.mediafire.com/?7cz7672da9cxkrd
Instructions:
1. Extract the archive you downloaded to a folder on your computer. Where doesn’t matter as long as you remember where it is.
2. Navigate to the folder ADB For Dummies (thanks to VanillaTbone for his guide) and install ADB for Dummies.exe
a. This will create a new folder on your C: drive called “android-sdk-windows”
3. Take the file “xperia_pro_root.zip” from the archive you downloaded and extract the contents to C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools\
4. Power off the phone and make sure it’s not plugged into anything.
5. Hold down the MENU button and connect the USB cable. A blue light will appear. If a blue light does NOT appear, then your phone can't get into FastBoot, and probably still has the bootloader locked.
a. If Windows asks you to install the drivers, install the driver from the folder “Fastboot Driver” in the archive you downloaded. Should those drivers not work, try the drivers found in "C:\android-sdk-windows\google-usb_driver"
6. Open the “Fastboot” folder in windows explorer (its part of the archive you extracted in step 1. Hold down the shift key and right click on an empty space in the folder window, select Open Command Prompt Here.
7. Type:
fastboot boot recoveryNEO.img
8. The blue light on the phone will turn off, the screen on the phone will be blank, and the phone will be disconnected from windows, but after a few seconds you will get a Mass Storage & ADB Interface Detected. Note that the phone’s screen will continue to be black for the rest of this process. THIS IS NORMAL, your phone has not been bricked. If you need to stop anywhere along the way, simply unplug the phone from the computer and take your battery out. The phone will return to normal operations, though UNROOTED.
a. Windows will PROBABLY say hardware failed to install. This is fine.
i. Open the start menu, right click on “Computer” and select “Manage”
ii. Select Device Manager on the left side of the Computer Management window that opens.
iii. Look for the unknown piece of hardware. Right click on it and select update/install driver.
iv. Browse your computer, and select the main folder you extracted the archive to way back in step 1 – the drivers are somewhere in there, don’t worry about where, as windows will find them just fine.
9. On your computer navigate to “C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools”. Hold down the shift button on your keyboard and Right click on an empty part of the windows, and select “Open Command Window Here”
10. Type "adb shell". If it says "device not found", disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery, and try again from step 6. Also, try changing the USb port on your CPU. I'm not really sure about this, but I had to do it twice.
Now you’ll have to run a bunch of commands inside the ADB Shell window (the one with the black background and looks like a DOS window). You can just copy and paste each one from here. Be sure that once you start this step, you continue until the end of these instructions.
mount -t yaffs2 -o rw,relatime /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
If it says “/system is not empty” then type:
"rmdir /system/bin" and then run the first mount command again
type "exit"
11. From the DOS window, Run these commands (again copy and paste each one is fine)
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb push su /system/bin/su
adb shell
12. From the adb shell, run:
chmod 0644 /system/app/Superuser.apk
chown 0 /system/bin/su
chgrp 0 /system/bin/su
chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
cd
umount /system
reboot
13. The adb shell will terminate. Disconnect the phone from the USB cable, wait for about 15 sec, remove the battery, and then turn it on.
14. From the phone, Open the Market, search for "Busybox" by "Stephen (Stericson)". Install that
15. From the Market, go to My Apps, search for "Superuser" by "ChainsDD" and make sure you're running the latest edition
16. Run the App "Superuser" from your app tray.
- under the settings tab, scroll to the bottom and click SU Binary "tap to check for updates"
17. Run the "Busybox Installer" app. Follow the onscreen instructions - just leave everything at default.
Congratulations! Your device should now be rooted! I personally suggest downloading and installing Titanium Backup to make sure - it will run a root check on startup and notify you if anything is wrong.
Notes:
This may seem to be a complicated method, but, as we will have to wait some weeks for an automated or simpler method, I think making writing an automated tool for this method is not worth the effort. But maybe, if no automated method appears in some weeks, I write one myself as a comunity contribution. - alvaroagThanks to VanillaTbone of XDA Developers for his awesome ADB For Dummies guide and app.

Hello
Since there is no Xperia Pro forum I decided to post this here. Hope you can help me.
I recently bought an Xperia Pro MK16a and I have already unlocked the bootloader with setool (thanks to alejandrissimo and his remote unlock abilities). Now I'm searching for a way to root the device.
He and I experimented with it a bit, and we've already tried the recovery hot-boot with recovery.img from Arc, Play, and Neo, but with no luck. Recovery just doesn't boot.
He's guessing it's related to something like a different ramdisk or something like that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you bootloader is open you can flash directly "prerooted".img with fastboot? Arc and Neo have this option.

To be able to generate a pre-rooted system.img you need first a rooted phone and this is exactly the problem, how to root it if there is no recovery for MK16
For sure RootXperia.zip will work but for install it the proper recovery is needed first i guess

To be able to generate a pre-rooted system.img you need first a rooted phone and this is exactly the problem, how to root it if there is no recovery for MK16
For sure RootXperia.zip will work but for install it the proper recovery is needed first i guess

I think that NEO recovery should work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183465
Maybe the keys are wrong mapped, you have to try a little. Just flash RootXperia.zip from Recovery and you are rooted.

That was the first thing I tried, since the Pro should just be a Neo with a keyboard. Unfortunately it doesn't work.
Here's the output:
C:\root-play>fastboot boot recoveryNEO.img
downloading 'boot.img'...
(bootloader) USB download speed was 9336kB/s
OKAY [ 0.517s]
booting...
(bootloader) Download buffer format: boot IMG
OKAY [ 0.002s]
finished. total time: 0.519s
The phone is clearly still turned on, but no longer in fastboot mode, and the screen is totally blank, though the backlight is active.
I've tried the same thing with the Arc and Play recovery images and had the same results.
What do you mean by the keys are mapped wrong?
Is this what you're talking about?
http://www.knowyourcell.com/sony-er..._hard_reset_the_sony_ericsson_xperia_pro.html
The instructions on how to get into Recovery on that site are very similar to how to do it on the stock build of my previous phone, the Motorola Milestone. Unfortunately THEY DON'T WORK
I've tried substituting the volume down button with other keys, but with no success. Pretty difficult to guess the right key combination when there's a full qwerty keyboard on here
Is there a way to boot into the standard recovery from ADB or fastboot or something? Possibly from an on-board terminal emulator? A command like "Reboot Recovery" perhaps? Or is that too easy to be possible...
It's ironic that my old Motorola milestone with a totally locked down bootloader proved easier to hack than this phone with it's wide open bootloader
Well,
i wrote you already in PM. But now here too. The PRO is only released in Canada and some Asien Countrys. Until it is released in Europe i cannot help you, because i need the device for testing.
One thing you can try:
after you fastboot boot and the phone is in blackscreenmode please unplug and replug it to pc.
Now try to adb shell on it. Is this working? If yes please gimme a logcat

Nope, adb shell doesn't work. Shows "error: device not found"
But because I'm new to this (I came from a motorola milestone), I want to make sure I did what you actually asked of me:
- I turned on the phone into fastboot mode (hold down menu, plug in usb cable, get blue light)
- from a command prompt window: fastboot boot recoveryARC.img
(replacing ARC with NEO and PLAY depending on the image I'm trying)
- phone now boots into black screen, no blue light, screen backlight is on
- unplug from computer, plug back in
- from command prompt: adb shell
Are those the instructions you wanted me to follow?
Fastboot works fine. Can I do anything from there? Getvar for example, or something? can I run the command Update and flash the RootXperia.zip file? Or will that not work because it's not signed properly or something similar?
Via fastboot you cannot flash the zip. Zip needs to be flashed via recovery, because this only contains some files and not whole system!
I'm sorry, you have to wait until i have the device! Only if the adb shell would work i could help you, if even this is not working it's hard to say what's goin wrong. All you can do is sending me the kernel.sin from you firmware. Maybe i can mix something up with this file

It's because they're all so similar, and are based on the same hardware as the Arc.
Process is simple:
IF you NEVER used UpdateService or PCCompanion BEFORE you unlocked your bootloader then : You need to relock bootloader first (sorry :/)
Then have to use SonyEricsson UpdateService/PC-Companion and tell it to REINSTALL/REPAIR your firmware.
If you used one of the tools before just skip the relock and do this:
After that is done you copy out the two files named:
FILE_XXXXXXXXXXX
FILE_XXXXXXXXXXX
where XXXXXXXXXX are some numbers. This files are located in the subfolder blob_fs inside the UpdateService/PC-Companion directory.
Just copy it on a "safe" place.
After that is done you have to start flashtool go to the "Advanced" Tab -> Decrypt -> then just choose the folder where you copied the files and let flashtool do its work
Afterwards upload the Firmware which is now present as a FTF file, somewhere and post it here (others will be happy to to have the whole MK16a Firmware )

Unfortunately the very first thing I did with the phone was unlock the bootloader. 'Fido' is the only phone company selling the phone, but I'm with 'Rogers'...so I needed to unlock the bootloader in order to actually use the phone as a phone, which was and remains the most important thing to me.
That being said, I'll see if Alejandrissimo can give me a hand with re-locking the bootloader, then I can get the firmware as you instructed, then have him re-unlock the bootloader. I'll just stick my SIM Card back in my old motorola milestone while we work on this so I can still have a working phone.
You're awesome Bin4ry for helping like this
Maybe I could help with that since I am with Fido and I have a locked bootloader (I haven't touched the phone except adding an ssh key) with my Xperia Pro MK16a. Though I know my way with ssh, I am new with the rooting stuff and Android. If you need some files or something from a locked bootloader I can help with that, just need some simple instructions.
Bin4ry said that files FILE_XXXXXXXXXXX were located under UpdateService/PC-Companion, can I access those via ssh? I have used PCCompanion only once when I got on Windows, but I am always on Ubuntu so I was wondering if I could get those file via scp and if so, where are they?.

If you could, that'd be great. I don't especially want to lock my bootloader over again since you have to use SETool to unlock it, which costs money each time you use it (essentially). Not to mention it involves some acrobatics with a paperclip to connect a testpoint inside the phone to a ground!
Unless there's an easier way to lock/unlock now that I've done it once that is...if so, I'm happy to do it.
As for accessing the files Bin4ry is talking about, boot to windows if you can and do it that way. Just follow his instructions to repair your firmware, then go to that folder in windows (it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Ericsson\Sony Ericsson PC Companion). At least, that's my understanding.
Hi. Yesterday, I bought a Xperia Pro. Ive spent most of the afternoon and the nigh trying to root it, and I've finally got how to do it. It's a manual method, as there is not an automated one.
There's no need to say I'm not responsible for any damaged or bricked devices(but mine is working ok )
What you need:
1. The Xperia Neo Recovery, by Bin4ry, get it here
2. xperia_pro_root.zip I'm attaching. It contains the files from RootXperia.zip, but without the update.zip-related files, as they are not needed.
3. The Android SDK, with the Google USB Drivers Package.
4. If you've never used your device in fastboot mode, you may also need to follow steps 7 & 8 from SE bootloader unlocking tutorial.
5. [NOT REALLY SURE] Application Debugging & Unknown Sources enabled.
6. [NOT REALLY SURE] Unlocked Bootloader. This is because mine is unlocked, but I don't really know if that is required to boot the recovery image via fastboot.
I'm assuming that you are working on a Windows/Unix terminal, with a working directory where you have recoveryNeo.img, Superuser.apk and su /these two from the zip file I attach), and that fastboot & adb are on the PATH. If some file is not on the working directory, or fastboot/adb are not on the path, use full paths.
Instructions:
1. Disconnect & Power off the phone.
2. Hold down the menu button and connect the USB cable.
(If Windows asks you to install the drivers, install the driver from ANDROIDSDK\extras\google\usb_driver folder).
3. Run "fastboot boot recoveryNeo.img". The fastboot device will be disconnected, but after a few seconds you will get a Mass Storage & ADB Interface Detected.
4. Run "adb shell". If it says "device not found", disconnect, remove the battery, and try again from step 1. Also, try changing the USb port on your CPU. I'm not really sure about this, but I had to do it twice.
5. Run "mount -t yaffs2 -o rw,relatime /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system" from the adb terminal. If it says /system is not empty. run "rmdir /system/bin" and then run mount again.
6. type "exit"
7. Run :
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb push su /system/bin/su
adb shell
8. From the adb shell, run:
chmod 0644 /system/app/Superuser.apk
chown 0 /system/bin/su
chgrp 0 /system/bin/su
chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
cd
umount /system
reboot
9. The adb shell will terminate. Disconnect the phone, wait for ~15 sec, remove the battery, and then turn it on.
10. Your device should now be rooted.
Notes:
1. When booting with recoveryNeo.img, the screen will keep blank. That's normal(I think).
2. This may seem to be a complicated method, but, as we will have to wait some weeks for an automated or simpler method, I think making writing an automated tool for this method is not worth the effort. But maybe, if no automated method appears in some weeks, I write one myself as a comunity contribution.
Hope this is usefull for you.

[Q] ADB shell error 'adb error device not found'

Galaxy Nexus GSM........
I cannot connect via ADB to my phone. ADB shells but 'adb devices' none is found. Drivers are installed correctly per device manager. Debugging is on.
The only thing I've found in the forums is that I can't select 'none' as my USB connection. The two check boxes won't un-check only behave like radio buttons.
I have always had to use "fastboot devices". Not sure if that is what u are looking for.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Uninstall all drivers and install those from the naked driver thread over in development.
'fastboot devices' is used only when on bootloader.

no luck
No luck. Always get 'no drivers for you phone found'. I guess I should have mentioned that I'm on W7/64 I did notice that mentioned a lot in the threads........ Any need to select the type of USB connection (none is not an option) ?
TIA, Jeff
getting there......
OK I am getting further. When I enter adb devices I can see my phone until I type 'adb reboot bootloader'. As soon as I enter that command the phone does reboot into the bootloader but the USB connection drops as well.

That is because you just installed the "adb" driver for your device. You still need to install the "fastboot" driver. It is the same driver, it just needs to be installed twice - once when your device is booted normally, and once when it is booted in fastboot mode. I personally would use the Universal Naked Drivers by 1wayjonny that bk201doesntexist mentioned, not the PDA drivers or Samsumg drivers or any other ones. 1wayjonny's drivers do not install any other software on your PC - they are just the drivers, unlike the PDA drivers.
Thanks all getting there. Thanks efrant that got me to the next problem .
I unlocked the bootloader and pushed su.zip no problem. Now I have flashed su.zip successfully but I don't have root. I have flashed many times with no luck.

Use the version of su.zip from this post. I just made it yesterday with the latest binary and app, so that one will work.
Thanks efrant that worked. I have root and installed busybox.
There was a really good terminal app that showed up when you flashed Cyanogen but I can't find it in the store. Does anyone know the name? The main thing that I need out of this whole endeavor is ssh and the terminal that came on CM8 and/or 9 was perfect.

[ROOT]How to Root KVT49L.D85110r and Install TWRP. My experience

I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this. Moderators, Please feel free to remove it or relocate it
First of all thanks to all amazing people on this forum ( thecubed,777jon,Dees_Troy, chainfire, supernoman, crashfocus, etc)
This is not my work . It is a compilation of what it worked for me from the work made by others. It is directly toward newbie users.
Instructions
1- Make sure you install LG G3 drivers in your computer( you can get them attached on this thread). Connect phone to the PC using USB cable. Make sure the phone is recognized when you plug it in with the usb cable
Also phone shall be connected as Media device (MTP), if it is in Charge Phone change it to MTP.
Scroll down this post. You will find the correct usb drivers attached. Install them in your pc.
2- Enable Developer options in your phone on Setting > General> About phone > Software information > and click seven times Build number until it enables it
3- Enable USB debugging on your LG G3 from your phones Settings > Developer options > tick ‘USB debugging’ check box. A window should pop up in your phone display to allow USB debugging. Select Allways Allow from This Computer and hit OK.
It will also be convenient to Enable installation of apps from Unknown Sources: Open phone’s Settings » select Security » Tick the “Unknown sources” check box (under Device administration section)
4- Download and unzip
- Pupledrake-Lite at http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lg_g3/purpledrake/PurpleDrake-Lite_R03.tar.gz Thanks to Codefi.re
- Download and unzip the attached ADB LOCAL READY with TWRP recovery.img
Thanks to @Dees_Troy & TeamWin - for TWRP Touch recovery
ATTACHMENT IS HERE- JUST CLICK HERE
5- Download -Latest SuperSu at http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip Thanks to Chainfire
6- Transfer UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip to the internal sdcard
7- Open Purpledrake-Lite and Run purpledrake_windows.bat. It should detect your devices if it is not, you need to check if the drivers were installed properly and unplug-plug back your phone.
Hit Enter as instructed on the computer screen until it gains temporary root.
IMPORTANT : READ AND DO NOT CONTINUE TO PERMANENT ROOT INSTRUCTIONS DISPLAYED. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTINUE WITH ADB INSTEAD.
Hit Ctrl+C to exit to use adb.
This process takes a few seconds and The phone start on download mode and it will stay on it.
8- Open ADB LOCAL READY folder you downloaded and hit Start Here.bat
Type "adb devices" to ensure that your phone is connected and it accept adb commands . On list of devices attached it should show LGD851........
Unplug it and plug it back if it is not .
NOTE: SOME PEEPS HAVE REPORTED PROBLEM WITH ADB NOT WORKING PROPERLY ON USB 3.0 PORTS. PLEASE USE USB 2.0 PORTS
9- Type "adb push recovery.img /temp"
You will see that it pushes the data. it should take a few seconds
Note: you may need to push it a few times if you do not find the recovery file on the /temp folder when you do step 12.
Some members stated that they need to push it ..5 times.
rubbamade tip
" This does work. If after you do the "adb push....", Hit the up key on your keyboard. What you just typed " adb push...." will appear again. Hit enter. It will "push" again. Hit up again. Hit enter. Do this at least 5 times. Now proceed with next step "adb shell"..... Should work now"
For some reason others user needed to push it more than 5 times, i assume that it is due to the file size of the image and your operating system and pc settings(i used win7). It is recommended to verify if it was pushed on step 12.
10- Type "adb shell" and it should go to shell command $
11- Then type "/temp/fakesu". This will put you in a superuser shell on your device. It should show su command line # .
12- Type "ls /temp" to make sure that recovery.img and fakesu are in /temp folder . If it is not, then you did not complete correctly the above instructions..repeat it
13- Type "dd if=/temp/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery". it will take a few seconds to complete and install TWRP recovery.
14- Type type "reboot recovery" It should boot onto TWRP Touch recovery. it could take a few but it should
15- Once in TWRP, select install,go to the SD card directory, select UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip and install it. Reboot the phone once complete. Do not panic, it should take a while to cook and update applications, but it will, be patient.
16- Your device is rooted and with TWRP custom recovery. IF you do not see SuperSu in your application drawer, do not panic, just install it from the Play Store.
17- Now you are ready to install custom Roms, any application that requires root, or enjoy root features.

That's what I do. I clicked enter first time rooting following purple instructions. Then I realized it does not work with January update. I run purple drake again (after I found this "fix") and, as I said, I DO NOT PROCEED WITH ENTER. I use CTRL C. The window closes and I open ADB, then click start hereand follow the rest of the procedures. So YES I did click enter once initially (because purple drake post is not updated that it does not work with JAN 15 update).

So YES I did click enter once initially (because purple drake post is not updated that it does not work with JAN 15 update).

It seems your windows os is missing the default mintty.exe terminal...
Google it and you will find a solution to manually install it.
Or use other pc

If I recall if the PD batch file/script is closing on you or giving you trouble, then you can run the script manually.
See link below to thecubed PD lite thread and read the 5th grey portion down of the OP, it is titled:
"But, what if I don't want to run your script to root?"
If you must use command line because the PD batch file/script is closing immediately just be sure to STOP after gaining temporary root!
From OP step 7:
IMPORTANT : READ AND DO NOT CONTINUE TO PERMANENT ROOT INSTRUCTIONS DISPLAYED. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTINUE WITH ADB INSTEAD. [/FONT]

dd if=/temp/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
This command doesn't work for me. It shows, "cannot open for read: no such file or directory".
Can you help?
Edit: Nevermind, had to repush recovery. Didn't go through properly the first time. Thank you
Everything worked great. Thank you for the guide! Rooted on 10r!

Hello,
I am also having the same issue. I tried the above steps a couple times and am not sure if I am doing something wrong (more than likely I am). What did you mean by repush recovery?
Try step 9 again
9- Type "adb push recovery.img /temp"
You will see that it pushes the data. it should take a few seconds

Yes, The phone is recognized and the file as you see was pushed (see script above). I think there is some issue with this method, as other people are reporting problems following the procedure in post #1??!! I guess it work for some and it does not for others.
