Marshmallow root and Xposed - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I need some advices before I brick my phone again. I tried to use ImageprepGUI to root my phone and install TWRP. Unfortunately my phone got hard bricked and I had to take it for service. I don't want to do it again. So I'd like to ask you for the right procedure.
What I have: LG G3 D855 32GB with stock Lollipop
What I want: Marshmallow with root and Xposed, preferably CyanogenMod. But stock with root and Xposed is also OK. Whatever is easier.
My idea would be to root the phone using Kingroot. Then install TWRP using AutoRec. Then flash CM ROM. Does it make sense?
Or should I install Marshmallow first and then do the root? What is the safest and easiest way?
And the last question. What is it Bump? What is a "bumped" ROM? I could not find an answer for this.
Thank you!

1. Root https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347803646
2. Use autorec from the thread and install cm later on
All custom roms on g3 are bumped(have bumped kernels), otherwise it wouldn't boot

Hvala lijepo.
This time it worked fine and I have CM13 nightly installed. I absolutely don't understand what went wrong the last time.

glad it worked. While mostly it's enough to read thoroughly sometimes things happen that are unpredictable

would you happen to know if this same method can be used for rooting D850 21R? i see you have the apk for 21R for autorec, but i am seeking confirmation somewhere that 21R is rootable... i just purchased this variant on swappa.
thank you!

Yea, you can root d850 with it. Only verizon 5.1.1 will not work(and 6 ofc)

[Q] How to root LG G3 D855 on Lollipop.

I was wondering if there was some method for rooting the LG G3 on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). I've searched far and wide on the internet but have found nothing so far. I did see that there were methods for the Nexus devices but nothing for LG.
Would like this as well. I thought I could live a while without root.. Seems like I just can't. :crying:
I think that you can find already rooted lollipop version on the forum.
For now, i nowhere found any root options.
Sent from my LG-D855
now it's impossible to root lollypop via purpledrake, ioroot or other programs but you can flash a rooted bumped rom.
I'll wait for this.
Same situation here.
Planned to use the pre-rooted lollipop but to use it you need twrp on the phone. To get twrp you need first root. So its a dead end, a points on b and b points back on a, both needing the other present first.....
Maybe if you flash an older kdz, root it with any of the previous methods, then get twrp on the phone and then flash the pre-rooted lollipop. Im just gonna wait for a lollipoproot without twrp needed.

I am on 5.0 and tried purpledrake (since i used it with 4.4.2), but it did not work, i also tried Stump and got an error too. With 5.0 the structure has changed and the methods for KK are different to Lollipop. So far, even with Nexus, the only way to root is through bootloader/kernel.
Hopefully soon we will see a method that can bypass this.
This is the method that works on the d855 by skin1980 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022

Yup, thats the reason why i downgraded it to KK. Downgrade, root and you can install rooted L.

Does that work then? I'm on Lollipop 20a on the D855. If i install the KK kdz, will it make the phone rootable again? I read something to do with the boot loader not reverting back to how it was before lollipop

Use this guide to downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
(you can flash almost any KK KDZ, v10x of course, but make sure it's for your device)
Root it with your preferred root method (i prefer Purple Drake)
BUMP it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2900614
Now you can flash the bumped roms you'll like. Just make sure, it's for your device.

Newcomer to this Device:(Best Root and Recovery method with latest(ish) OTA Version

MODS, apologies if this thread is in the wrong place, feel free to move it if necessary.
Hello all. I am a potential buyer of the T-Mobile variant G3 currently trying to get a, "lay of the land" before a purchase is made. I am fairly positive that this device will be running either D85120E or under, however I'm not excluding the possibility of it running D85120G out of the box. (even though D85120G was only just released via OTA today.) I would like to know the best current method for achieving full root, and custom recovery on version D85120E. (and possibly if this might also work with the newly released OTA version) My goal is to have this device running TWRP with a custom AOSP ROM.
I would appreciate it if someone could get back with me on this.
Thank you all for a moment of your time.

On kitkat:
either option A
1. install twrp manager and press install twrp
or
option B
1. install flashify from playstore
2. download this, extract "recovery.img" from the zip
3. flash the recovery.img with flashify
_____________
Use quickboot from playstore to boot into recovery
What's the current firmware revision... ZV4? I assume so since ZV6 blocks Stump Root. If that's the case, then you'll need to install Bump'd TWRP...

DE Conversion for 5.0.1 BOAF

I have a note 4 which I froze at 5.0.1 BOAF version using the debloater utility.
I would like to do the conversion to the DE unlock and flash CM13.
I keep seeing people needing to flash a 5.1.1 kernel in order to avoid bootloops. As I am not on 5.1.1, am I free to do the unlock, flash TWRP and then flash CM13/Gapps?
I really don't want to update to 5.1.1 and would like some input from those with BOAF who have done this. Any issues you had and solutions?
My fear is getting to the point of flashing TWRP and then not being able to flash SU and CM13 because of the TWRP SD card issue.
I am familiar with ADB and have been flashing roms since the DroidX.
Place all the files you need on your internal storage. Then root with Kingroot and unlock the BL. Then go into DL mode and flash recovery. Then you can access you internal SD to flash the Emotion kernel or you will get kernel panic and bootloop. Then flash Super SU 2.67. If you install Xposed you can remedy the TWRP ext SD issue with Wanam Xpose module. I know because I've done been down this road and figured it out today lol. Hope this helps shed a lil light on it for ya.

Well I understand what you are saying but if you're going to unlock the bootloader anyways and flash a 6.0 ROM what does it really matter. If you're worried about being able to downgrade, there is a safe upgrade method to do that so you can be able to downgrade if you want.

I'm concerned with soft bricking by flashing the wrong version kernel.
And I was asking how to NOT soft brick.
Has anyone done this with 5.0.1 (as the title states) without issue?

If you are on 5.0.1, you can do the DE conversion. You don't need to flash a kernel. Once you're done, you can flash the 5.1.1 through odin, install TWRP, and then flash the kernel and superSU again. Don't use the evolution kernel. Use the one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/firmware-safe-upgrade-to-lollipop-t3313224

No, you do not have to flash a 5.1.1 kernel if you intend to stay on 5.0.1. However, if you decide to flash anything 5.1.1+, AND WANT ROOT, a 5.1.1+ permissive kernel is required to prevent boot loop.

My confusion was that I had thought that roms included a kernel already, and you only needed to flash a kernel if you wanted a custom one other than what is included with the rom. In the past I have flashed roms that had tweaked kernels included, no need to flash a separate kernel.
So it sounds like if I want to go to CM13 I have to unlock, update to 5.1.1 then do all of the other steps listed.
I was just hoping to skip right over 5.1.1 and go right to CM13 with TWRP using the included CM13 kernel. That is what I was asking, if those of us on 5.0.1 could skip over updating to 5.1.1.
Another question...If I unlock the BL and then update to 5.1.1 as sizzle suggested, won't that lock the BL again?

This. Glad I found this thread, this question has been hauting me..
I did the bootloader unlock exploit recently and saw I was on 5.0.1. I know that if I want to flash to a 5.1.1 rom I need to update to 5.1.1 prior to get the kernel and modem and what not. My only worry about doing so is whether or not it will re-lock my bootloader in the process. I'm not worried about downgrading, just about losing my bootloader unlock and root.

Rooting a G3 D855 16GB

So, how do I go about rooting a G3 on 6.0? My firmware's V30o, so I know I have to downgrade, but it's not exactly clear to me how I should do that. How do I proceed after downgrading? Kernel's 3.4.0 if that matters.

Not sure as I don't have a D855 but check this post. The link there has Kingroot. If that works to give you temp root you can uses Flashify to install TWRP. If that is successful you could then flash a perm root like SuperSU or Magisk I suppose.

Same phone here. No way to root...
Followed marcdw link :
- copied the 4 files on internal phone's storage.
- installed Kingroot V4.6.5, then launched... it says : No root strategy
I've tried many things to downgrade the phone to android 5 or 4, unsuccessfully.
May I'm doing mistakes, it's 1st time I'm doing this...
So if there is a perfect solution, I'll be happy to flash this phone
