So I try to go to the forums on my pc and no matter what browser I use, I get a virus warning, what's up with this?
No Virus
Hello,
XDA is clean. Maybe you have a Virus on your PC, that is redirecting or opening popups in the background. Which anti Malware or Virus tool are you using?
Regards
Trafalgar Square
My pc is definitely clean, using avast anti virus
probably false positive
Are you getting the warning via your anti virus or in your browser?

avast tells me everything is a virus - worst program ever
get rid of it and use AntiVir...much better (free also)
i was experiencing the same issue with avast today, received another definition update and all is well now
*this only occurred on xda-developers.com

does anyone know if the virus protection programs really work on android?
i just would like to be able to install apk's found on these the market, forums, and elsewhere with peace of mind.
anyone try virus protectors with any success or know ways of ensuring you dont get a virus (other than permissions...which i assume virus's could fake?)
Why would you need one? You have to install the APK first.
You can try lookout which has an AntiVirus included. It basically scans apk's for anything they have in their database. Not perfect, but works. Plus the other features are nice too.

So I take it you know which .apk it is then! Why haven't you shared the name of the suspect file(s) so others don't accidently download it... I'm sure the virus maker is disguising it well. He just asked a simple question that's all...
I have not used one for Android but have also wondered how well these will work... does it only scan downloaded .apk's or does it constantly run in the background and use resources?
I still don't understand why people feel the need to post unproductive comments when "legitimate" questions are asked... this was not one of those stupid questions where a comment like this is deserved...if it was that easy just to not just download it then the virus makers would never get them to spread...
I have no problem avoiding a 13k apk to install, but its just a matter of time before you have a nice working free apk posted somewhere legitimate, thats bundled with that 13k "extra". i think if this door is opening, its pretty scary. pc virus's are annoying, but they rarely cost you anything other than a headache. this virus sends premium SMS's which are charged to your account. just wondering if anyone knew if these virus protection, like lookout, actually work.
I use lookout, but I have never had a virus, so can't really say if it actually works or not.

Ha...paradox much?
One thing you are missing is that this virus arrives in an SMS message. Updates arrive through the Market App. Easiest protection would be to not install anything from an SMS unless you know what it is for sure.

No thanks. I will just continue not installing apps from sms messages. I get my apps from the market and occasionally directly from trusted devs. I don't see the need for antivirus in my case.

ON my PC,i'm using AVAST;i did the same for my phone: D: D: D
Cerberus is pretty nifty if your looking for something to find a lost or stolen phone. Premium is free too until the 29th of feb
+1 for cerberus
Useful even if you lose it at home just set that alarm off and go searching.
But great features if it was stolen as well.
Dr.web is mine
Cerberus for anti theft.
Avast if you're becoming paranoid about virus and such crap.
I downloaded the toolkit for rooting my sgs3 and its been about a 2 weeks. all of a sudden today my antivirus (AVG free) said that file was infected with a trojan horse. is this a legitimate issue or is it jsut a problem with my AV program? i know the free AVs sometimes detect programs as malicious when they actually arent. has this happened to anyone else?
BTW this is the toolkit i used and where i got it

you called it, it is an issue with AV...disregard the message.
Here is what I posted on Mskip's thread:

Sandman, same here today. AVG picked up 4 Trojan Horse BackDoor.Generic15.CMTQ threats after a fresh download from media fire and clean install. Also downloaded from Dev-Host with same results. Ran Malware Bytes and it picked up 2 Trojan Horse. I uninstalled AVG and installed Norton AV and it picked up 3 Trojan Horse threats. So just wanted to let you know that you aren't the only one having this problem and I don't think AVG, Malware Bytes and Norton can all be wrong.

This is a common problem with root exploits and antivirus software. The problem is that it is a string of code designed to take over the operating system. The antivirus programs recognize that as a threat, because it is. It's just being used to root your phone, and not maliciously.

I have used this toolkit on 4 SGS3 and worked great on each one. No problems on my PC except AV will pick it up as a thread as RegnierD states above.
Good days folks,
I have a software called "Armor for Android" (which an antivirus) keeps dwnloading every while from unknown source!
I am attaching 3 pics to show you the problem. I even installed and run the application but still, it keeps downloading.
the application is not available in the play strore but the apk gets installed from a source which I don't know. I got the devise since one month only and I am new to android software.
please help me thankfully.
Someone on amazon put this in his review
This came with Tech Font, Clean Font, or Gothic Font for FlipFont, not sure which, but when I uninstalled them, it went away, so far. It hides itself from any application or process monitors, so I'll edit this review if it comes up again.

Seems like it acts more like malware than an antivirus. Could possibly be downloading virus database updates. But if you really wanna use an antivirus program use avast or avg not some random program you don't even know where it came from
I like to break stuff!
It doesn't even scan for viruses. the damn thing offloads work to a site owned by google (that explicitly states NOT to use for commercial purposes) and AFTER it has been scanned by the site, the program flags the files as clean and NEVER offloads the files to scan ever again. it's the most useless garbage i've ever heard of and any positive reviews are FAKE
Guys, Thank you for your replies but actually the problem not yet solved. I catched the website the file downloading from suddenly:
dl.trafficmanager.net
I tried to open this webpage but it keeps giving me server error. I am not sure if this thing would be helpful. If you have any ideas, I will be thankful if you could share it.

It looks like that's the download server. After playing around with it, I think I see what they're doing. You probably have your browser open on their download page. Every time you start your browser it downloads the install apk to your device again. I noticed it when I went back to my browser. Try closing that page or navigating away from it. The downloads should stop.

Hi
Just asking my N975U note 10+ i update it to android 10 **********TE7 latest from sammobile and i figure it out the security antivirus was not install in the device care, i try to click it however it close automatically anyone have a solution on it or it will not fix anymore? I search alot try to do troubleshooting still not work , if you have anything please help thank you!
I don't have anti-virus as part of my software, and never have. It is something that needed to be installed separately.

There's no need for an antivirus on a phone...
Any antivirus app available on the Play Store is usually just a front which rarely (if ever) offers any antivirus related functions, and usually more focused on offering services like cleaning and antitheft.
Apps get scanned for suspicious blah blah at the time of install by the Play Store itself.

I understand what you mean. I do not have security/anti-virus at all in that menu. Perhaps VZW stripped it to try to sell me sh!t.

The dude that calls it a front, develope a android app and see what vulnerabilities you find.

For me that "AntiVirus" is just a "hidden" advert for "Mc Affee AntiVirus"
Clever advertising ploy of Samsung.?
Overall ,that basic scan is useless..( according to me.)
look ..... at the bold links.. click on that link and it will take you to McAfee site , where you can purchase their product.
See screenshots
Good luck

Yes, I'm also talking about same thing...
Phone /Settings /Device Care /Security......
It's actually a McAfee AntiVirus, not Samsung however it's "baked" into Samsung Firmware.
(See more screenshots below)
It seems to me that you are only stuck the first page ?
Obviously your Service Provider/CSC disabled it with their software.
It's not installed as that's why it closes automatically.
eg
Score eg 100
Battery
Storage
Memory
Security.
If you click Security.. then the other pages appear..( See screenshots. )
That Samsung AntiVirus or McAfee is on all my Samsung Note devices eg Notes 8/9 /10
Good luck

No its baked into your Samsung Firmware of your device.
If you cannot access the Security functions, then its been
automatically been disabled, by your Service provider or by your Regional CSC (Samsung Firmware)
Only way you might get access to it if you flash another Regional CSC.?.
that has this Security function enabled.?
This i would not advise.
Bottom line,
What i said in my previous post (Above), also that
its really not worth even bothering about it.
Suggestion,
Even though i can access the Samsung Security Scan function,
I have only used it once and i have my Note 10 + since August./. October 2019.
Really basic and its not really a Samsung app but powered by McAfee
See screenshot.
My security setup is
using. Adguard app blocker (paid subscription)
and i have the free version of Malwarebytes
which i manually scan my device..( if i feel like it)
Further Google Play services, automatically scans my all my apps on my devices regularly.
You have to enable it in Play store settings.
I used to have paid version of Norton AntiVirus, but it was a waste of money.!
So i also really don't need a "half baked" Samsung / McAfee AntiVirus.
Anyway its your choice
Good luck

However,
thinking again about your issue...
"that if you click.. tap on it it automatically closes."
Thats strange, because if your Service Provider
or Regional CSC, disabled it. it would be "greyed out"
You cannot tap/click on it.!
Have you not maybe disabled some System apps
and have a knock on effect.?
Otherwise may something corrupted your settings.
In that case only a Factory Reset can help.
Further i cannot see why a Service provider would disable it.
I would check with someone nearby or Regional
if they can access it.
Good luck.

It doesn't even appear on my device as an option, so it is quite likely mine was removed by my provider since they sell lots of 'extras'.

It looks like the "Device security" portion of Device care is deliberately disabled on US Devices in order for US carriers to push their own AV solutions
