[Q] Camcorder app with microphone gain control? - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been testing our lovely N5X and find out that recorded audio in loud environments is terrible. Is there any way to tweak microphone's gain control or is there any app that auto-adjust it?
Thanks in advance.

I use ElementalX kernel and there is a manual option in the paid app that flar2 published on the Play Store: EX Kernel Manager. There are a couple gain settings that you can adjust in the app. I haven't used it or any gain settings cuz I don't know what they mean.

Yes. Full eq for speaker, phone, and blutooth. You have to flash the zip which you can find in xboarders thread

To clarify, clamman asked if DSP manager can increase the volume of the speaker, not change the EQ. I am curious as well..

I don't think you know exactly what an equalizer is or what it does. An equalizer adjusts the intensities of specific frequency bands independently. For example, it lets you increase the intensity of bass frequencies and lower the treble frequencies if you wish.

Equalizers are NOT volume knobs.

no one has any ideas to make it louder? i need help please lol
The speaker already gets fuzzy at max volume. It's pointless to try and use software to force it to get louder, it's not a high quality speaker.
I'd be more inclined to take it apart, and replace the speaker with a higher quality one, but that's only if you're really willing to put some effort into things.

where can i get a louder and better speaker that will fit?
I have no idea how loud you want your G2 speakers especially when the speakers are not the best ever. However I believe if you are running a sense rom and you flash the Unity Kernel (In my signature) it supports a 20% audio boost you may try that. They are also currently looking for another way to boost audio so maybe in awhile the audio boost will be greater.

So.. increase the volume of all frequencies and then you increased the overall volume?

It depends on whether the said equalizer (such as DSP) is actually boosting the frequencies above their "normal" levels, or just allows you to "cut" the various frequencies below their present level.
For anyone on Gingerbread, the app Volume+ allows you to boost actual volume, in addition to an equalizer, and with different profiles for headset, speaker and Bluetooth. The volume increase is not huge, but its definitely helpful. Its a paid app on the Market, but free on the dev's website:

Question regarding equalizer...

Hello,
For those lucky ones with a galaxy nexus....i wanted to know, when in stock music player, I hear that changes in the equalizer can make huge differences in the volume of the speaker. It can make the speaker much louder as well....but i wanted to know, if I set it to user or custom, and turn up the equalizer to louder, will it apply to all audio?
Example, by default, equalizer is off, if i adjust it to on, and raise the bars, will my youtube app play videos on my "new equalizer settings" or was that just adjusted for stock music?
Can anyone do the test to see?
Many thanks in advance !
I think thee reviews stating speaker is low is by default settings, but can relaly improve through equalizer form what i hear.

Maybe I am missing something but my Music app doesn't have an equaliser option.
in stock music app.
the equalizer does make a difference. i have not test it with a headphones yet, but even with its onboard speaker, you are able to tell the difference.
i only see it on the stock music app at the moment. not available on youtube app.
this is a feature only exist on ICS, so for others running the new music app on any other roms, you will not get this feature. not even on honeycomb. (i have tested this).
Yes the music is louder in the rmusip app, but nothing else plays any louder I tested this because I think the ring volume is way to low

There is a free Volume Plus app you have to go to the developers web site to get it. Read the description for the app on the play store and it will tell you where to go.......
Alternative is equalizer by smart apps. Custom eq Max each freq. Does that break it? Its an alternative.

will try but does it increase (like volume+) the overall external speaker volume?
Without volume+ set to 15 my sms/msg/alarm notifications are way too low
Aham http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500579
One question I've always had is if there's anything that just adjusts the external speaker's sound only. I know the go to solution has always been Volume+ or Music Volume EQ, but both affect sound globally, or in volume+ case starts to distort sound every time you change from BT to headphones or external speaker. All I want to do is make ringtones and notifications louder, everything else is fine.

I want to fix the speakers

Upon using this device for few days, I found out how bad the speakers sound. The highs are extremely muffled out. I also found why it sounds this bad. There is a significant bass boost effect already applied, and you can't un-bass-boost it. You can check this in the equalizer settings in Google Play Music. In fact, after I messed around in the eq app I downloaded, turning the highs way up, it sounds significantly better. But still, it can't give the same effect as reverting the bass boost effect. That's why I want to know if there is a way to override the factory settings and revert back the bass boost effect. And yes, I don't mind the root methods.
Try V4A?
Hey there, we're going to make some audio adjustments so sound should be a markedly better.

Very keen to know when this will be released as well. Just using basic notification sounds, I get dreadful 'hissing' as the sound file tails off. Its really bad. Vibrates like crazy watching videos. It's definitely over eq'd and/or too much gain.

Is that gonna be a software update?
Right now, we're not sure if this audio tuning will make our next MR update, but indeed it is a software update that can help with the audio.
It's been a month. Do you guys have a plan for the next update?

I'm also excited for the next update. Sounds like you guys are fixing all my issues at once (camera, speakers, and heat). Basically waiting for that before I sell off my nexus 6p.
Received the update! It's freaking amazing how much the speakers and the sound output has improved. Didn't expect this much of improvement. Thanks guys!

Does anyone here have a successfully working plan for Viper on Robin? I've ended up having to adjust the CPU through Kernel Adiutor in order to eliminate crackling/popping while on ViperAtmos Stock 4.7. I just want this phone to sound great. Otherwise, it's perfect. Thank You!

What adjustments did you make? When playing music and screen turns off music stutters horribly. Unbearable.

How to make Spotify sound better? best audio mods?

Hey guys, I recently started listening to me a lot of Spotify. I was wondering what tips you had to improve sound quality other than setting it to high quality. I have a couple magisk mods, but they don't seem to help. What else do you recommend to improve sound quality? It doesn't sound near as good as my iPhone and iPad.

Viper4arise helps a lot. Install it through magisk. In comparison, atleast when in car when streaming spotify through BT, its like day and night. I simply use Equalizer, Viper Clarity and Viper Bass.
Turn off volume normalization, it restricts the dynamic range.
