After I updated my LG G3 D855 to stock MM I had problem with wifi on my home network VDSL router. Internet was working but in "waves" - it would show text first then it paused and after few seconds pictures would come and so on. There were no problems on mobile connection or on wifi at workplace.
After googling, I found that same problem was on Lollipop on some phones. It has something to do with IPv6 DNS servers on router and I first tried DNSet app and it worked. Then I found option to manually add addresses of IPv6 DNS servers on router and it also resolved problem, so I don't need DNSet app anymore.
DNSet app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dnset
Googles IPv6 DNS servers: 2001:4860:4860::8888, 2001:4860:4860::8844

At some points in your life, one of your Android devices connect to a wifi router, but can't connect to the internet. However, your computer, laptop or iPad will connect to that same wifi and use the internet just fine. I've looked everywhere on the internet for solutions, some of them are:
+ Turn off and on both modem and wifi router
+ Factory reset wifi router
+ Battery pull your phone, wait 30s and put it back
+ Reflash stock or custom ROM
+ Change DHCP IP setting to Static
+ Disable security (WEP, WPA) on wifi router
+ Check DNS server, gateway IP address for correctness
Fortunately, I stumbled upon this old thread last night -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371794
It helped fix the internet connection temporarily, turning off and on wifi on phone caused the issue to repeat.
In summary, he found out the correct MAC address for gateway was mismatched with the one on his phone. Even though the gateway IP address is correct (example: default gateway IP 192.168.1.1)
Upon further investigations, I found out my Wifi ROUTER has the same IP address with my MODEM (192.168.1.1) This IP conflict causes the phone to recognized the WIFI ROUTER's MAC address as the gateway's MAC address. This problem mostly occurs on Android phone, not computer (I'm no tech savvy so I have no idea why)
Simple fix: Go to wifi router setting page, change the IP address on wifi router to different number (other than default 192.168.1.1), and the problem should be fixed.
Please help spread the words to fellow Android lovers, I'm sure a lot of us have struggled with this problem
I'm one guy who is desperately looking for a solution to this.
Unfortunately the solution you gave didn't work.
Hi
i have a problem with wifi. it remains connected but loses internet access randomly. i found this solution:
"In the wifi networks, select the network you want and select ‘Forget network’
Turn off the wifi
kill all the apps with your task manager
Turn on the wifi again
Connect to the network
Check the internet connectivity
If still the problem exist, switch off the phone and redo the above steps"
it solves the problem, but it happens again after some minutes. actually, i also installed an app named "wifi fixer" which does the above process automatically. when the program is active, it turns the wifi off and on every 2-3 minutes. and the phone has internet access when the program tuns the wifi on.
any idea?
Turn off wifi optimization on some android phones help.

(bump) By any chance, are you all using Aztech's router? I have the same problem with my Aztech router.
solution?

2 years after the last reply I am having the same problem. My wife and kids all have internet access on their phones, tablets, desktop and laptops all from the same modem router yet I am unable to use the internet on my Galaxy S2 mobile phone even though my phone says connected to Wi-Fi Network Netgear 06.
The Mac address solution provided isn't applicable to my situation as my Mac address on my mobile is different to my modem router Mac address.
Any other solution?
Hi, guys,
I sometimes need to use a L2TP VPN to connect my company's network. The problem is, I can actually establish the connection (VPN shows connected), but I cannot visit any website. A ping test on terminal emulation tells that there is some problem with DNS lookup.
I am confident that my L2TP setting is correct since there is no problem with the same settings on a Google Nexus 4 phone.
Does anyone here have the same issue like me?
My G3 is 855 on 10L firmware.
Confirmed, I got same issue on my LG G3 (D855) model.
When on VPN connection, any direct IP access is working but DNS won't resolve any hostname.
Hi guys, I can confirm this too.
My device is a G3 D858HK with 4.4.2 and original firmware v10f.
This bug is really a showstopper for me.
Every ip address from intra or extra net is pingable , and the ip traffic goes through tun0 , but the dns lookups are dead.
It is possible to do dns lookup using a tool from the market.
This means for me that all ip routing is good and seems to be not a firewall problem.
Any ideas for workarounds ?

Background
I live in the stix and my only source of internet is my 'unlimited' data plan via phone carrier which also 'allows' me to tether.
This gives me about 15meg download on 58-65 ping which is really nice especially as there is no extra charge for the data I use.
Issue
Recently I started getting random 'limited' connectivity.... which of course means no net connection and to fix I discover the 'Default gateway is not available' and the adapter needs resetting. This solves the network connection.... but a complete nightmare if I'm downloading a big file that can't be torrented and I have to start again. I've tried changing from 'Obtain IP address automatically' to manually setting the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway but this random dropout to 'limited' persists.
I installed Vistumbler to check traffic and discover I'm broadcasting on channel 6 which is populated with lots of other traffic (5 other networks near by using channel 6) and figure this may be a potential cause. (someone else disconnecting from channel 6 at shutdown maybe...?... but that's a wild guess) So only way to discover how to stop this happening is by a process of elimination.
Question:
Does anyone know which 3rd party Wi-Fi tethering app will work on Lollipop and can change the broadcast channel number of my wifi hotspot from my Z1c running CM12...?
I'm having problems with WiFi on my 5x. The connection drops intermittently and refuses to reconnect. When I go into the WiFi settings it shows "authentication problem" although the settings have not changed. Sometimes it will reconnect after 10-15 minutes. Rebooting the phone always resolves the problem.
I have both a 2.4ghz and 5ghz access point (dual band router). The phone has problems connecting to both. I have other devices connected to the same access points working fine when the 5x disconnects.
I've also noticed the WiFi connection reporting no internet connection on and off as well, but again other devices are connected just fine.
Is anyone else having similar problems?
My Wi-Fi works flawlessly. That said, I encourage you to update the firmware on your wireless access point/router and see if that resolves the issue. If not, you can try using the legacy DHCP client on your phone by going into Settings, Developer options and turning it on there under Networking.
Good luck.
I'm running openwrt on a tp-link Archer c7. I'll give the legacy DHCP client a try. Thanks.

@jeffmhasty , any update? I have the same issue. Unfortunately I have to reboot my Nexus to fix WiFi connection. Tried legacy DHCP client, tried disable IPv6 connection, nothing helps.
I have router with openwrt too.. Thanks for reply.
Legacy DHCP seemed to work for a while, but it ended up in the same state even with it on. I have it off now, and haven't had any problems with WiFi for a few weeks. I played around with some settings in OpenWRT, but I'm not sure that actually helped anything. The only setting I can remember changing for sure is enabling DHCP and DNS -> General -> Authoritative.

@jeffmhasty I found fix from Openwrt developers- it looks like there is/was an issue with Atheros driver in combination with Qualcomm chipset in Nexus 5X, look at here:

I am facing the same issue of WiFi connection dropping. I observed this after turning off the WiFi scanning under the location setting.
Re-enabling the scanning fixed the issue.
Can anybody explain this behavior?
Also I want to turn the WiFi scanning off and still not get a connection drop.
How do i achieve it?
Sounds like same problem I'm having. I have an archer C5 at home and and Linksys E3000 at work that I have problems with. It seems to have only started since the 6.0.1 OTA. My wifi seems to connect fine, but sometimes shows the limited connectivity warning.
I've just started having this problem as well. I agree, it seems like it's started with the recent security patch (was that 6.0.1?). Mine gets stuck saying it's trying to get an IP address, so presumably something in the DHCP aquisition. I have 3 different APs in my house, but only one is responsible for issuing addresses. That is an Asus RT-N66U running Tomato USB.
It had to be the last ota update that's when it started for my ...kicking me off networks I've been on everyday including my home router ....I do not believe the router is the issue at all ....its the software in our phone

Hi,
I'm trying to use the FireTV1 over IPv6 exclusively, but it does not seem to work.
Tried before with OS3, and now after upgrading to OS5 it's still not working.
LAN and WiFi both. WiFi says connected but issues, and LAN does not even show up as connected, even though the link is up.
Using a Dual-Stack router, it will assign both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and of course it is working.
