Hi All
I've recently come over from the Desire S forum, was running a custom rom, and before that i had a rather unfortunate love affair with blackberries!
well i've got my hands on a Galaxy Nexus and i LOVE the phone! however the only downside is that this phone is really really really quiet....
its running on teh 4.0.2 update, build number ICL53F, and I've tried searching but can't seem to find a fix for this....
i'm struggling to hear the other person when i'm sitting in a library and my alarm barely manages to stir me in the mornings!
help!!!
Why not search? Install equalizer or volume+ and max out each frequency. Your volume will double for ringer, notifications, music and audio.

Volume+ is great... it's useful beyond the nexus as well. Made a big difference on our Nook Colors
I did search, and read about both of these apps, however I was thinking more along the lines of perhaps an ACTUAL FIX which fixes this issue in the nexus rather than just an app that boosts the volume...
thanks for the suggestions guys..

If there's an actual fix (which I'm sure there is) it'll probably be in an OTA.

volume+ is an actual fix. It changes the volume level under the covers.
I don't see any difference using Volume+ or at least i can't tell!

at a bare minimum, you should set your ringer/notifications at +4. I've used +6 for the past month and it's been fine.
I got it working with a reboot, +5 or similiar looks just fine
well those apps are a fix. Google exposed the audio api's after gingerbread for anyone to raise system audio output. So these apps just tie into the system audio and raise it as much as you like. Only call volume is not exposed. Sure maybe google will raise the volume in an update soon. But using apps that use the audio api really is the same thing.
The latest ota leak increased volume.

Hi,
I've tried different talking clock apps, but fail to find one compatible with S3 without bugs or lack of key features. I was wondering if anyone had better luck?
Key features:
- speaks time every 15 or 30 minutes
- Silent period (shuts up between X pm and X am)
- won't drain battery like there's no tomorrow!
Whatever you do, don't buy Audio Clock by SURFSOFT LABS. Junk.

I am using EQ STime-it's a paid app. It's working good on my S3 and have all options that you mentioned... You can find it on Google Play...

Thank you, will try right away. I had read a review that said it gives time at random, any problems with that?

Well, I didn't had that problem. It just don't always start itself after a reboot. If I start it manually it works.
Well, I tried a few, but they all have bugs/annoyances:
EQ STime : mutes all three audio channels after a while, need to reboot.
Audio Clock : randomly gets out of sync with your time interval. Not reliable at all.
Speaking Clock: TellMeTheTime : No way to set silent hours (don't speak time when I'm sleeping). Otherwise, this app seems to be the most stable.
Talking Clock: Can't remember why, but it wasn't very good
Still looking...
Well lets duscuss.
Personally I do not like that using NOVA launcher instead of Touchwiz doesn't allow to get transparent status bar.
It could be NOVA issue, but developer responded me that "Unfortunately the status bar is a function of the system software/rom and cannot be changed by a launcher"
BTW stock Touchwiz has awesome transparent status bar.
Also I do not like new Settings organization in groups. Before if was much more convenient.
I dont like too.

the transparent status bar is coded in a way that it's part of the SecLauncher. this is the same for the wallpapers. if you use a non-stock wallpaper, it won't be transparent up there even if you are using the stock TW Launcher SecLauncher. my first mod for the phone will be with the SecLauncher to improve it so more will like using it. later i will just mod the SysUI for those that want a transparent status bar while using a 3rd party launcher.
in regards to Settings grouping, there may be a firmware update later that will allow you to change it back to non-grouping. was it LG that did something similar with their Optimus G line? they had this option to change from day 1 so i don't see why Samsung wouldn't enable it in a firmware. however it's possible that they never allow this. but i'm with you on that. i had to look for things longer than normal on my bro's phone because of this.
Sound quality when listening to music... is absolutely horrible. Spent a few months with an iPhone 5 and got used to awesome sound quality. Decided that I ultimately couldn't stand the limitations so I switched back to Android. Only to realize that, as a music lover, sound quality means a lot. And this device needs some serious tweaking.
I tried the Equalizer app from the Play Store. Still has a lot of crackling and popping in the background when playing music via Play Music.
If anyone knows an equalizer app that works flawlessly on this device please let me know. Otherwise I'm stuck waiting for CyanogenMod and their awesome EQ.

Yeah, but all of my music is uploaded to Play already. Over 20,000 mp3 tracks. And even if I did resort to playing local media only... the sound quality is still an issue. So that doesn't really resolve the problem.

Yes PowerAMP is the best player ever for sure but in comparison with my Note 2 this new Galaxy sounds much worse my Sony XB500. Very noticeable difference
Somebody knows is this a hardware or software issue?
give that new acid audio that got posted a try.
first phone where the power button is located on the side ... I find myself hitting the volume rocker often when I'm trying to turn off the screen... maybe it's the gel case I bought for the phone is too tight.. other than that I love and adore this phone

My gel case has been returned to seller. Hard to press all side buttons and problems with charger connection.

So I'm having a weird issue. My screen is on full brightness and sometimes the screen seems to dim a little bit. It's kind of annoying cuz I noticed it within a few minutes if using this phone. Anyone else or did I get a defective phone?

This fixed it for me. Maybe it will help you. Go to settings >display and uncheck Auto Adjust Screen Tone.
It looks like someone did it with Samsung source last year.... First time I've heard of it in a tw rom....
Anyone else dumbfounded by this being set so low? This was the reason I started running aosp roms on my EVO 4G.... And kept with them on my Galaxy SII.
Why isn't this more important to people? Music sounds like poop over bluetooth.
Anyone know of a fix for the Note 3?

this message didn't go quit as I planned, so to bump it and get what I wanted to say in...I'll Reply:
someone actually did this with the Samsung Captivate Glide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880298
I would LOVE this to be fixed once and for all by Samsung, but....doesn't look like that will EVER happen....
Basically highs sound too compressed and scratchy almost...am I the only one who's almost quit listening to music from my phone in the car because of this?
Thanks
quick fix that (at least) make BT music sounds better...

I missed this post, but thank you!!!
I just made the changes, but haven't been out to my car yet. Hoping for the best, but honestly, not expecting much. What do these changes do? I'm gonna google it, but....I'm asking here too.
You're welcome ^^
From what I googled: it reroute your audio stream through main CPU instead of special DFX introduced in JB+, the Low Power Audio decoder -lpa.decode- (thus increase in batt usage like playing music in pre-JB Android)...
I would be glad if it works for you as well ad solve your problem ^^

I was super excited, but ...it didn't work. Highs still sound like poop. It's hard to tell sometimes, but, when my random playlist hit In The Mall by Weezer, it became very obvious that it still sucked.
the cymbols in that song are pretty isolated, and that's where you can hear the static compression. just sounds terrible to me...and i'm far from an audiophile...
Thanks for responding though!
Ah yes, its still suck but better than using LPA Decoder...
Still have to find a way to make it at least listenable....
I'm an audiophile... And this problem made me crazy...
Some says that its intentional by Sammy, coz Sammy use APT-X protocol for streaming music (maybe its their marketing strategy to make ppl switch to Samsung Level headset/APT-X compatible headset?).

I didn't mention it in this thread, but I think last time I tried an AOSP rom for this phone, I still wasn't very impressed with the sound quality. Have you tried? I think I tried a PAC-Man rom a few months ago....

Umm, nope... I never tried AOSP/AOKP anymore since my Note 2....
And I give up using bluetooth for music, can't bear the sound quality...
I tried Viper but it stuttering too much, and I don't like equalized/tuned sound... I listen to music as-is....
I'll try to get cheap APT-X bluetooth headset (not $500++ headset as I'm cheap )
Does anyone know if there will be note 10 support for energy ring? I like this app for the S10 plus so hoping it works. I tried it on the not 10+ but ring appears to the top right of the screen thinking it's an S10+.

Someone in the themes apps and mods section posted a similar app they make. I imagine if the dev for energy ring would probably update for the note 10, but only way to find out is to ask them specifically.

Ok thanks. Will head over there and browse.
Are those apps still prevent the phone to enter deep sleep?
It's a shame that you have to trade battery for that.
