I was curious on the screen brightness of the robin, so I sent an email to nextbit asking if they had any information on what the screen brightness is. This is the response I received....
I wrote....
Hi,
"I have a question about the screen brightness of the phone. Do you have an idea of how bright the screen is and how readable it is in direct sunlight? When the screen is on full brightness how many “nit” units does the screen measure if you can share that?"
they responded....
"We checked our min and max screen brightness is the same LUX values as Nexus 5X, and yes you can see it on a sunny day."
For the record the nexus 5x has a measured max brightness of 487 nits
Not bad should be just fine.

I feel like my auto brightness isn't as responsive as it should be. I find myself lowering the brightness in the dark and having to raise it in sunny conditions. More interestingly, sometimes when I'm in sunny conditions, the screen brightness will actually drop and I have to manually raise it.

This looks to be a great fone. However, one of the digs I read on many reviews concerns the display brightness both on the high and low end.
Any comments on readability in sunlight, ability to dim in the dark and overall impressions of contrast, color and depth of black will be appreciated.
Unfortunately locked into Big Red until July 10th. No more of that with this fone.
Brightness is OK on the high end. Not the brightest but I haven't had a problem reading display in sunlight - the CABC is very aggressive.
Minimum brightness is a problem because it doesn't get NEARLY dim enough!
Some apps can get brighter than the stock implementation reaches, btw. Though the higher limit isn't too much brighter.
For the automatic birghtness I do feel the auto-brightness levels for the low light and bright lighted areas is incorrectly calibrated.
For night time reading when I want lower brightness than permitted by the phone, I use the application "Screen Filter" from Haxor Industry. It's available on the Google Playstore and is a highly rated app.
For day time viewing when I want a higher brightness, I just turn off auto-brightness control and push the display brightness slider up.
Wish Asus had given us a tool to calibrate this according to our individual preferences. This kind of a tool was available in CyanogenMod, unfortunately not implemented by Asus as yet.
I've not received mine yet so I'm not talking from experience of this phone but I always use lux auto brightness on my devices rather than those that come built in. You then have complete control of its behavior.

I started using Velis Auto Brightness last night and now the display brightness at all times is just perfect. The velis auto brightness tool also allows me to tweak the brightness curve to my individual preference.
The stock brightness solution leaves a lot wanting. The minimum brightness is way way too high.
Try lux app ?
Its brighter than the Moto X 2014 and I think my Nexus 6 ( I haven't compared it yet) however it's still easy to see in direct sunlight for me YMMV
I hope we'll see an increase in max brightness in a future update. Hopefully it's just a matter of pushing a little more voltage to the screen. It's not unusable...but using the phone yesterday in the car, a little bump in brightness would have been welcome.
Auto-brightness is fairly worthless...so investing in Lux and learning it.
Thanks lux is pretty awesome for dimming the screen well try brightness later. Since its super bright and hot day I'll check out brightness with lux on
Visibility is a bit better with lux turned to max

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the OnePlus X's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

Take for order on older forums!
It's decent , i even compared it to samsung S6 , same output .
mine is not great iff their is direct sunlight even on full brightness. Not sure iff it is the cm13 rom or iff it was the same on oxygen.
Excellent visibility on purity ROM.
It's honestly quite poor when I'm in direct sunlight. But that's been my experience with any AMOLED display.
actually very weak in direct sunlight....
I consider it to perform very well on highest brightness in direct sunlight.
Can see and read everything effortlessly.
on full brightness everything is perfect
amoled is quite bright so outdoor usage isnt the problem
real ques is how long is our batt going to last in total outdoor use(full brightness)
Great in the sun!!!
Our phone actually has a high brightness mode that can be enable with kernel adiutor or a widget(that was created for the nexus 6) that makes the screen even brighter. It can only be triggered by these apps, auto brightness or manual brightness won't reach this "high brightness mode"
I use my display on auto brightness so I'm pretty sure it automatically turns the brightness all the way up when I'm outside.. the brightness was has never been a problem for me outside. In my opinion, display is the most beautiful part of our phone. I just love it! ?

No other phone is better, 1000 nits definitely shows.
Agreed! Very bright outside!
Is the only way to achieve maximum brightness with the auto setting?
Simply beautiful no matter where you are.
best screen I have ever seen at noon sun blazing
Still can use my phone when under the big hot sun~
I always disable the auto brightness on any device I owned before, note 7 is the first device that I keep that on. It works flawlessly!!!
5second to dim down, 3 second to raise the brightness... Better than any device I owned before

It is the first smartphone that has no problem with the screen brightness even in the super sun.
Outside, just set Autio Brightness on max and the magic will happen into the sunlight.
I have Exynos version.

I'm currently experiencing a strange bug with my razerphone. After playing with the brightness settings, and switching off the adaptive brightness, it seems to have developed a bug where the screen is much brighter than usual. Viewing the screen at a brightness more than about 60% is almost painful to stare at.
I'm currently viewing the screen at 0% brightness, lol, and it's quite a normal brightness for me.
At a higher percentage I'm certain the screen would be viewable outside on the brightest of days.
So could the screen brightness be higher with a software tweak?
Sorry, I was high writing this.. The screen is acting normally today....
Bruhh dont razer when high. You might cut yourself. Cheers
??? best post ever
Don't do drugs kids. Sorry again ?

I have experienced a little disappointment with the Oneplus 8 outside in full sun. I find the maximum brightness lacking. I thought it would not be like that, but I have to put manual brightness to the maximum to see something more or less well. I am unhappy with this, I don't know if it will be fixed in future updates. hope so.
It looks great on the outside. Yes! You have to deactivate battery saving and automatic brightness!
weird brightness oneplus 8
I have a problem with screen brightness while using outdoor, sometime, while im using oneplus 8 outside, after unlock the screen, the screen auto turns dark ( like while you are calling someone ), and I have to tap to the display or via powerbutton. What is that weird issue
Im using oneplus 8 android 11, enabled adaptive brightness and ambient display
