problem in detcting my htc m8 model - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi friends i have bought a Htc one m8 from ebay.in and i tried to update the phone but there was no software update option in the settings through google i learnt that i have to flash stock recovery through adb but the problem begins now that i cant determine my phones model as it indicates HTC M8w (HTCOneM8vzw) and in Software it says "Sprint_M8_X.rom_2.0.5" so please help me to determine my phones model weather it is Sprint or Verizon or M8w and please help me to find wheather there is any easy way to update my phones software
thanks in advance

Please get to fastboot and run a getvar all to get all details. This one probably have a custom recovery in place as well.

The software version listed in Settings means nothing. It looks like the name of a custom ROM that the previous owner flashed.
I agree with the last response, that we need getvar data to be sure how to proceed. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Also, this thread belong in the Q&A, Support forum section. So I've asked the mods to move it.

it was previously on super cid 11111111 but once i accidentally changed to VZW__001 plz tell what should i do to change it also as iam a newbie to these things

Its Sprint, Harmon Kardon (HK) Edition. The product name m8_whl means its Sprint. The main version number "654" means its the HK Edition.
You can go back to SuperCID with the command: fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Or you can go back to the Sprint CID. Searching around, the CID for HK Edition is: SPCS_004
Then update using the RUU and instruction near the bottom of the following: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-harman-kardon-edition-sprint/news/
Be aware, the RUU will wipe the phone. So backup anything you want to keep accordingly.

i need to ask a question that if i update using RUU wold my phone will be get locked as i dont know wheather its factory unlocked or not is there any way-out to check the same

Your phone will still be SIM-unlocked after RUU. Doesn't matter if it was factory unlocked or otherwise.

thanks ill do it and afterwards post

[Q] Installing Jelly Bean on CID 11111111

Hi folks,
Just a quick question that I'm not able to post into the Development threads given my number of previous posts.
My phone phone is a contract one purchased via my carrier, 3, in the UK. Using CID Getter from the Play store, I've identified my phone's CID as being "11111111"; does this mean I can install any hboot at all and be able to upgrade to JB? From what I've found elsewhere online, this seems to indicate that my phone can support any of them but I'm unsure. Would installing an hboot from another carrier mean that I'd have to manually input my own carrier's settings?
Thanks for any help,
10x
Correct. With that CID you can flash the Taiwanese firmware and OTA. You may need to enter your carrier's APN settings afterwards to best write them down before you do it.

I also have that cid. Do you know where I can find a link to the Taiwanese jellybean update?
To the OP - you won't have CID 11111111, it'll be a 3-branded phone. run the fastboot command
fastboot getvar cid
and post it here, we'll go from there
fastboot oem readcid
Is more reliable.

I just want a normal phone again...

I am s-off and this is my getvar: http://pastebin.com/x4YZ3G34

I currently have some type of developer edition firmware that doesnt let me update because it knows I have the wrong phone.
I have changed my CID to H3G_001 as this is what it should be as I am with Three (H3g) in the UK.
I understand an RUU would be best but there are none for my carrier.
What would you do in my situation?
PLease help - I just want my normal phone bac with software that can install updates
Try changing CID to 1111111 through fastboot (cmd - fastboot OEM writeCID 1111111) then fastboot flash a GPE RUU (you can find em through graffixnyc.com).

Your paste.bin doesn't show that you changed the CID back to H3G__001
After you change the CID back to H3G__001, you can restore H3G__001 stock ROM backup and its matching stock recovery then do update.
You need to restore 4.20.771.2 backup.
You can read post #1 on how-to, files available on post #3 and #4
--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Any further question, you can ask in that thread to get my faster respond.

The developer edition is a normal version - just minus the carrier additions. I would suggest altering your CID/MID to match the developer edition. You already know how to change the CID, so set that to BS_US002. Then change MID using this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581.
At this point, you should be able to get OTA updates if you haven't modified the OS. If you have, re-run the developer edition RUU from HTC.
When you are done, you will have a bog-standard "normal" phone in every way - and you will get your updates a heck of a lot faster than you will with any carrier.

Hey! i didnt understood any of what you said Could you help me? i can try to learn!
oooof tough one .....
S-OFF = Security off
Means all partitions of the phone that are usually locked down for modding are unlocked now, to change the model id (mid) and region codes (cid). Also for changing the phone from carrier lock to unbranded phone.
S-off is available via www.theroot.ninja
Then you have to change cid to a verizon one (non demo cid) and flash a Verizon RUU.
Comes to think of it that a Verizon might not be able to go WWE, I'm not into Verizon devices.
But that's the story in a nutshell. How to change cids can be found in the general section in several tutorials. Or ask/read in the specific Verizon subforum for the M8. The device has its own section !

How to determine HTC One M9 developer edition vs. plain unlocked (or AT&T unlocked)?

How to determine HTC One M9 developer edition vs. plain unlocked (or AT&T unlocked)?
Bought a HTC One M9 on Swappa that was advertised as being a developer edition phone.
While the box doesn't have any carrier branding, I would like to know whether the phone is indeed a developer edition.
Booting into the bootloader it shows:
*** UNLOCKED ***
htc_himaulatt PVT S-ON
LK-1.0.0.000
RADIO-01.01_U11440792_97.00.51203G_F

OS-3.36.617.12

Is there any way to check on the phone?
Otherwise, is there any way to check on the HTC website? I was looking for a warranty status check but there seems to be nothing like that?
Best thing to do is contact HTC and just have them verify via IMEI/Serial# to whom the device belongs too. They should be able to tell you immediately based off the IMEI if its registered with AT&T or a Dev model.
Do you know how to use fastboot commands? fastboot getvar cid will show you your CID. Your SKU belongs to the dev edition/unlocked firmware. Both have the SKU 617. The unlocked version has the CID BS_US001 and the developer edition has the CID BS_US002. But there's actually no difference between those two except that the dev edition's bootloader is unlocked right at the beginning whereas the bootloader of the unlocked version needs to be unlocked via HTCdev.
Edit: If you're interested you can find a list with all SKUs, CIDs and some MIDs here.
Awesome.
getvar CID:
cid: BS_US002
getvar MID:
mid: 0PJA11000
So I assume I am good?
Greatly appreciate the help!
I wish Android would actually show the device/model info for the phone, given that there is so many variants ...

Hi? I'm trying to identify this HTC. Imei says it's m9 on swappa. But camera doesn't look like m9. Seller says it's dev edition. So I wanna confirm.. It bootloops at bootloader, it enters fastboot and twrp fine. Plz check attached pictures

It's definetly not a M9. The read warning has nothing to do with it being a dev edition or not. It only shows that your bootloader is unlocked. The dev edition has a specific SKU and a specific CID (as already explained in my last post here).
If you can enter the fastboot mode* then I don't know what prevents you from using the command that I mentioned in my last post. Checking a phone's model via IMEI isn't very reliable. The MID on the other hand will exactly tell you which phone you own.
* This is another indication that you don't own a M9. The M9 doesn't have a fastboot mode. That one got replaced with the download mode.

HTC M8 SPRINT has no connection.

Guys...help. My HTC M8 SPRINT has no connection to a carrier. I dial #06# no IMEI. I go to the fastboot mode (use fastboot getvar all) I see IMEI.
looks like radio is bricked. Hot to fix iT?
Did you do something to cause this condition? Tried to flash an RUU, firmware or radio? Is the phone s-off? SuperCID?

For what reason did you reflash that RUU? What was done to the phone previous to that?
When asking for help, it's best to give as much background info as possible; not just a few sentences on the present condition. Knowing the history might give us a clue in troubleshooting.
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
