Nexus 7 identification problems - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hope some of you knowledgeable guys can help me identify my Nexus 7. The box clearly states that its made in 03/2013
and it definitely has the Qualcomm Snapdragon s4 Pro Quad-core 1.5 krait processor ( I used CPU X ) but only has 1 gig ram and no rear camera. I am therefore a little loath to start modding until I am sure of what model I have. Going into system settings the tablet is showing as ME370T running android 5.1.1
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Only one camera and ME370T, sounds like first generation "Grouper" (Nakasi), not second generation (2013) "Flo" (Razor).

Thanks for the prompt reply, I found a piece of software on the forum called 'Nexus Root Toolkit' which seems to confirm what you say, what confused me is that version 1 is supposed to have a Tegra 3 cpu. I will try and install the rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...arrotmod-speed-2012-nexus-7-emmc-fix-t3300416 to try and even out the lags, I only want it to run my TomTom maps without freezing.
Once again thanks for the reply.

I had a Nexus 7 2012 and would recommend using the MKernel by Metallice it transformed my n7 also use Trickstermod from Google play to set it up enjoy?

Thanks for the tip but I have managed to sell my 1st Gen Nexus 7 and have now got a nearly new 2nd generation which I have rooted, installed TWRP and a stock 6.01 MM rom using the Nexus Root Toolkit v2.1.4 by wugfresh. Its running sweet at the moment, I am going to use it as a satnav for a forthcoming holiday in the U.S and start playing more with it when I get home.
This forum is certainly packed with knowledge which just needs to be read carefully to get things to work.

Seems like it tells the tab the location of various modem related configs. It might help us with enabling the voice on tmobile USA tab.
Samsung has never given us anything like this before. Now tab is almost at the end of it's life cycle because tab 2 will be coming out soon. May be samsung gave the opensource community what they were holding back.
I don't think it tells the tab anything, but it does provide an interesting "read" (more of a pick through)
The brief Google searches I was able to conduct tell me little about what it all means, but if someone could enlighten me on how to dump memory addresses from the Tab I'll do more research

Is it at the end of it's lifecycle? They are still to release the wifi only model.
There is no "Tab 2" - there's the 7", 8.9" and 10.1".

From what I have read lifecycle of singlecore processor smartphone devices is over, next version will have dual core.

The HTC Flyer will have a single core processor and it isn't even out yet!
Dual core isn't a panacea - there will still be a market for single core devices for a while.

Dual core processors for PC's have been around for years and you still get PC's with single core processors
can any one tell me who to flash the nvm_SP6160_MODEM_V09.23.03_0f104f9d.cfg in the JMK rom?
I tried to flash the JMK rom with Odin. But the update failed by transfering the modem.bin file to the SGT. I hope that has something to do with the nvm_SP6160_MODEM_V09.23.03_0f104f9d.cfg and some one can help me
I want to know more about this cfg file too.

[Q] Do you think GNex will be able to run 4.2 smoothly?

So, with the lastest specs of the posible "LG Nexus 4" we could see a 4 core smartphone with 2GB of RAM. This hardware it's amazingly fast! Do you think GNex with his hardware will be able to run smoothly 4.2 (With a "only" 2 cores and 1GB RAM)?
BTW, a smartphone with that specs that are able to move a Windows 8 RT (in my opinion), Do you think that it's coming something like Ubuntu for Android?
I only want to know your opinion, I have just bought a Galaxy Nexus because my Nexus S broke down and I don't want to regret have bought it.

Well , eg. Galaxy s3, 4 core and 2G , which runs 4.0 or 4.1 smoothly and GN runs 4.0 and 4.1 smoothly as well , so I guess GN can handle 4.2 smoothly as well.
Version update doesn't necessarily means more resources consumption, it could also mean system optimization in order to consume less resources and be smoother

I think it'll make it far past that.
I don't see why not.
GN is a strong phone. its only one years old. my old SGS1 ran 4.0.4 perfectly, my friends SGS1 is running JB pretty good. dont see any reason our GN wont run 4.2.

Totally agree with you. The Nexus S might have some troubles to run 4.2 correctly if the changes are important (like between Gingerbread and ICS), but definitely not the GN
Yes it will.
Of course it will. After all, every new Android is going for making performance better, not worse. I was surprised that my friends Samsung Galaxy Ace was actually very smooth with JB.
Of course, it will run 4.2, 4.3 and even 5 smoothly. As I see, its one of the fastest phones on jellybean and runs it very smoothly. Unless Samsung decides not to throw the 4.2 update due to business reasons

Yes, I would agree that it should run 4.2 and beyond without much of an issue. I don't notice any type of stutter, lag, etc. running stock JB on mine.
Since the GNex's hardware exceeds the HW requirements for WindowsVista, I seriously doubt it couldn't run a smartphone OS. If the next version of Android is that resource hungry Google needs to fire the Android dev team.

A dual-core mobile processor has almost as much in common with a desktop processor as I have with Michael Jordan. It wouldn't run Vista well if at all.
But as for the thread, yeah I'm betting we'll see 5.0+ even if not officially.

[Q] Android 4.4 KitKat

Hello everyone,
We all know Android 4.4 KitKat was released today(1/11/2013). Since the source will be availible, is it possible to port it to the kindle fire(1st gen)? If yes, please make a stable rom.
Thank you and have a nice day
(Wanna get rid of CM 10.1)
It will take at least a week I am guessing, because the update "will be rolling out over the following weeks" as Google said, and then people will have to port it, so just have a little bit of patience. Also, why don't you switch to CM10.2 if you don't like what your on, or AOSP for that matter, as that runs better I personally think.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Not very likely since TI (the chip maker for the KF) won't be supporting android any more... or that's at least what I read. I'm hoping that I'm wrong though.

I cannot change too quickly. Mom allowed me only for CM 10.1, and now for CM 11(It will come, right?). Cannot do CM 10.2.
That kernel is not ready for primetime, also there is code that the chip maker will have to release code for it. See hash and others posting about it:

Google says that kitkat can run on devices that have as low as 512mb RAM. We can sure overclock our processor to 1.2 GHz

You know, hash doesn't say anything about not getting it to work. In my opinion he clearly stated that he is really trying to get 4.4 to work. It was others that were being sceptical.

True, the first ROM for any android version for our device is done by hash. Same case for 4.1,4.2,4.3,4.3.1

As was previously stated, Texas Instruments is out of the microprocessor chip game and they have stopped supporting the binaries for newer versions of Android. It wasn't directly stated by Google but it's very likely that it was for that reason that they chose not to support the Galaxy Nexus in the newest iteration of Android, as it also uses a TI chip. I'd like to think that it would be possible to run Android 4.4 on the old Kindle Fire, especially since it lags pretty badly on stock, but I am afraid that the likelihood is fairly low.
True that it also what is written on hash's thread for the new kernel. He sure I trying hard and so my hopes are pretty much alive

[Q] Galaxy Tab S ROMs work on Galaxy Tab Pro?

I haven't looked into the files etc. in the ROMs, but from looking at the physical hardware specifications they are VERY similar in terms of processor, GPU, RAM, internal storage etc. The question I have is whether they should be very easy to port from one device to the other? Are the drivers for the sAMOLED massively different from the LCD in the Tab Pro?
I may have a go flashing one of the Tab S 10.5 ROMs on to my Tab Pro 10.1 and see what happens...
Does anyone know if there is anything obvious which would prevent it from working? Other than the model ID checks obviously...

I wouldn't try flashing a ROM for a different device on your Tab Pro, you could get yourself into a lot of trouble and you could end up with a Bricked tablet!!!!!

???? Look again. The Pro uses a Snapdragon 800 SoC from Qualcomm, the S an Exynos SoC from Samsung.
BTW, there is a sticky in this forum indicating that questions belong in the Q&A/Troubleshooting section, not here. The mods will move it shortly.
Apologies for putting in the wrong section.
that aside, the tab pro 10.1 comes with the exynos chipset here in the UK. The 5420 to be precise, the exact same chipset that the tab s comes with. The only differences between the tab pro 10.1 and the tab s 10.5 is the SAMOLED and the S-pen compatible touch matrix.
I know there are variants of the tab pro with snapdragon chipsets, but the 10.1 is exynos.
FYI
Having had a bit of a mess around with some of the ROMs for the SM-T800 (Galaxy Tab S Exynos) I managed to get some pleasing results. Some elements don't work, mainly the keyboard and WiFi at the moment (presumably they use different wireless chipsets). Managed to fix the Wifi but still working on some other bits and pieces.
May contact a ROM dev who works on the Tab S and see if I can produce a port of one of their ROMs. Mainly interested to see if I can port over a Lollipop ROM but thought starting with a 4.4.2 one was a good shout.
In the most light-hearted of ways - SHUN THE NON-BELIEVER!
If everything works as planned i'll set up a ROM port in the general development section of the forum. :good:

Apologies people, not made much headway recently as work has been manic (I'm a 25 year old IT account manager so free time is a rarity!)
I am still awaiting a response as to whether I can kang some bits from other ROMs as well so will do some chasing and see where we can get
I have been running my mash-up for a little while and there's still lots to fix before it becomes useable...
I'm glad people are interested in this, though
One thing to one of the posters, this is just a 'flat UI' style ROM based on 4.4.2/4.4.4 so is NOT a full LP ROM - that may change, but I haven't played with kernels enough yet to try and lob LP on it properly.

Windows Phone Internals updated to version 2.4

Hi all! Windows Phone Internals 2.4 is ready to download. It beats the modern SecureBoot implementation. And furthermore, it brings custom ROM's, Mass Storage Mode, Root access and many more hacks to all Windows Phone 8 and Windows 10 Mobile-based Lumia-models. Nope. And I don't think they will be supported. I got neither of these phones to test with. Research would also take a lot of time to see if some of the hacks can be ported to these phones and maybe they also need new hacks. I don't think I would have time to create support for these phones.

But, I'm afraid, it's too late now, Windows phones are almost dead It's a time to switch to the another platform, unfortunately Damn Microsoft, burn in hell! - you are killed the prefect platform! But currently Windows phones (even a "latest&greates ones", like my two years old L-950), become nonfunctional because of lack of applications and services... Lack of support of modern services and apps is killing the platform more faster than damn "back end guy" Satya Nadella

Well, this tools gives two options
1: Unsupported phones that don't receive upgrades can be upgraded to the latest version 1709 (10.0.15254.12) and receive at LEAST security updates. and small bug fixes.
2: Phones that have similar Android phone counter parts might be able to be switched to Android where the drivers are supported for that same hardware where they will have new life.
Im leaning towards 1 because its easier.
Look like a chance to unbrick my 530.
Hoping for new life

It's not about rolling out a software update that new phones must get it first. And new phones like the Elite x3 have more security features that are difficult to break at this moment. Just like how WP Internals was only for old phones like Lumia 520, 720 two years ago and not for new devices at that time like Lumia 640, 730, etc.
