Custom Lollipop & Marshmallow ROMs Drains My Battery - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi To All XDA Members,
For Now, I Am Using Resurrection Remix On My T Mobile S3 & Its Working Fine. But When I Installed Oct OS, FlexOS, CM12 Without GAPPS & Any Other Application Other Than Stock Apps. My Battery Drains Like Hell. Both On Screen On & Idle Mode. 10% Drain In 4-5 Minutes. What's The Issue These ROMs Are Official & Stable. I Have Also Posted My Issue But Didn't Got A Fixable Reply. Please Help As I Want To Use These ROMs Thanks To The Community!

What do you want tell, please explain here as i have turned off sync and other services and used greenify and other apps but no gain

amplify and powernap also help with battery drain. its all in the OP. if already are using these three then please diregard this post & maybe someone more knowledgeable will chyme in.

@mrrocketdog thanks for helping me out but it didn't solved my issue. Battery drains heavily only on Lollipop & Marshmallow ROMs but quite stable on KitKat (Using Dalvik) & Stock ROM (4.3). Is this due to ART? I read that ART is more stable in terms of battery performance. But if I take it aside, if I not consider "ART" the main issue so what's the issue? There is a bug of "Mobile Radio Active" in Lollipop ROMs but on PAC-Man, This bug is not existing. I have turned of Sync, GPS, Profiles & Without GAPPS & My Apps. My S3 Drains Battery On Usage & Battery Option Gives Me No Information, No Major Cause Of This Battery Drain

i am all out of ideas unless maybe kernel related (?). but thats.really beyond me , so again ; hopefully someone.else will chyme in.

HALP !
I'm running the october builds of the cm11 gee version. And i've been experiencing battery drain when the phone is idle. For eg. Overnight my phone dropped from 56-49 % doing nothing. I'm running this build with the built in kernel (Matr1x) and gapps from cyanogenmod's website. I tried 9/26, 10/01, 10/06, 10/13....all with the same battery drain problem. The ROM is solid and the battery life under usage is amazing (especially with jolla kernel). But battery keeps draining when the phone is idle (even with jolla kernel). This is really frustrating. Any help would be appreciated

I noticed the same 1% per hour deep sleep airplane mode drain with both Matr1x and Jolla on my E975 running latest PA. I personally have found faust93's modified Franco to be solid. It gives good battery performance---no drain in airplane mode. You can find it here xep dot 8800 dot org slash e957. Latest version ends with 2010.

Oh yeah sorry, i forgot to mention airplane mode. However, Jolla kernel is the best kernel i've used so far. I tried Franco once and the problem persisted, Will try again. Thankyou

Welcome. One thing that we both implied but didn't spell out is that both the said Matr1x and Jolla are modified with the stock camera port. As far as I know, the modified Franco and UKS by faust93 are the only other kernels as of now that support stock camera driver. For me personally, as mentioned earlier, Franco worked out better when it comes to energy efficiency. On the other hand, the drain problem while sleep in airplane mode does not seem to exist with kernels using the Mako driver---AK, Matr1x, MiRaGe, etc---all seem to hold their juices just fine while idling away.. Have a good one.
Thankyou bud. Will give franco a go

Franco did nothing !! Battery drain still persistent. Went back to official cm11 and now everything is fine. I love the unofficial ROM ! But this problem is really frustrating

I hear you. Battery performance is one thing that I am sorta obsessed with in a phone. As I mentioned, I'm on the latest Paranoid Android (4.6 Beta 5) with faust93's Franco 2010 build. When I switch the phone to airplane mode, which is a bedtime routine, it wakes up the next day without losing any juice.
Personally, I think going with official CM11 is a good choice because of its more consistent level of development and support. Like you, I've tried a whole bunch of "private" Roms. At the end of the day, these are usually spare-time endeavors by one or two hobbyists. As a user, you are more or less at the mercy of the devs. Bigger teams like official CM11 and PA reduce this risk somewhat.
Have you troubleshot with Better Battery Stats, which could give you a hint on potential culprits? I've recently found another non-placebo battery saver app call Lion Tamer. You can download via Play and should be able to find a related XDA thread.

The only thing i hate about official cm11 is that it's CAF based, which means i can't try all the awesome aosp/mako based kernels on cyanogenmod. Which is why this unofficial version of cm was the perfect solution for me. However the drain issue is just killing me. I get 5.40 hrs sreen on time in around 1 and 1/2 day of usage in official cm11, which is really awesome battery life. But i just don't know why the battery starts acting all crazy when i flash the unofficial build. Gotta give it one more shot.
When I get back tomorrow night I'll do some comparisons with the gproj base and see what I can borrow.
This is getting to me also.

ur having the same issue ??
Battery drain when idle
Battery drain when phone is idle is still persistent It actually happens with every gee based build. Only gproj based builds are holding their juices.
Hey @MikeEx what is the solution for the idle battery drain ??
Is there some known problem regarding device encryption?
I tried to encrypt my E975 device but it keeps replying "Bad Password" (which isn't wrong) or restarts before it comes to the pin screen.
Things tried:
- Whiping all partitons / Clean reinstall from scratch
- Stock Kernel / Jolla Kernel tested
Used version: cm-11-20141216-UNOFFICIAL-gee.zip
The latest build of this rom gives me very good battery in standby and usage with Matr1x kernel and ondemand gorvernor.
But the gpu is always scaling on highest freq... Any solution?
Anyone having issues using tethering on the latest version (January 25th build)? I had it working properly on the December 16th build. I did do a dirty wipe when upgrading but I wanted to make sure that tethering was working for others before clean flashing...

So, I wanted to update people in case they had a similar situation. After not being able to tether initially, I lost GPS yesterday. GPS had been rock solid for about 2 months. The strange thing was that I never lost data.
I was able to fix the situation by using CWM to back up the 1/25th build, flashing back to stock, restoring EFS and getting a solid GPS lock, and then restoring back to the 1/25 build. GPS and tethering now work fine with the 1/25 build.
I hope this information helps someone.

Advices for battery life

Hi everyone,
I would like to ask some advices for the z1 compact battery life.
I actually have a stock rom with not a bad battery life but, you know, i'd like to have more if i can.
So i red some threads and i installed some apps for battery life.
I actually have installed hibernation manager and rooter booster.
The first one is an application that is activated when the screen is locked, the other, since it doesn't say this, is always activated i guess. (at least, it's what i thought, and i still don't exactly know)
So my question is this...
For a nice battery life:
1. shall i first stay on stock rom or custom rom?
2. which and HOW MANY apps should i use? (i also red about greenify and amplify but since i have the 5.1.1 version of lollipop and i red that amplify and greenify doesn't know all the wakelocks and services.. I mean i red that you should try yourself for all of those services to block since they don't have an explanation for that and so i took these other 2 apps)
The stock rom that i actually have i downloaded it from this forum and doesn't have full gapps i think which is good for me, i don't really need them but what i mean is that it's not the original rom.
Thank you for your attention

Thank you for your answer,
i read something about that app and i'm not so confident in spending more
if i really have to spend more money i'd like to use them on apps more famous like greenify and amplify but still i don't know if it's really worth it cause of lollipop 5.1.1 and also about using stock rom or custom roms

You don't need to buy pro version... Basic version is free and it gives you AI mode. Just install it and give it a try. Then, if you'll see improvement, you will decide...
Greenify is also free for basic work.

Oh, nice.
But shall i use only that app or i can use more ?
I mean more apps might go in conflict in my opinion so i don't know if i shall use my apps in pro version as well.
Also i'd like to know if OPG app is active while screen is active (so when i'm using the phone) and / or when the screen is disabled (again because of my app that works only when the screen if off.)
I have activated stamina mode and energy saving from sony and i know they're helpful but do they "fight" with other apps that are supposed to save some battery?
Thank you
Your concern is correct.
IMAO there should not be more than one main manager, otherwise they will fight with each other.

"Democracy and voting are best in TV"
What do you exactly mean?
I should use just stamina mode, stamina mode and just a battery saver app like let's say amplify, or just amplify? Is that what you meant? :S
Some few tips for best battery life. There are better t threads you can find more information from, so:
- Use direct AC charge instead of USB whenever possible
- Always make sure your network (2G/3G/4G) wherever you are is strong. Weak signal will kill your battery very fast. Biggest battery drain imo on top of using mobile data on lollipop.
- Switch network to 2G when on wifi
- Toggle GPS, Data, WiFi off if not in use (I use Tasker to automate this mostly)
- Greenify + amplify
- get a custom kernel and tweak device parameters for optimum battery savings. A good deep sleep should give you less drain when screen is off.
So basically it's more to do with managing your device as well as usage.
Am on z1c stock 5.1.1 with advanced kernel v16.

I was thinking about using a custom rom like mx rom v8 or dstriker rom which are both indicated for battery life ( i also read that people are pretty happy with their battery life with both roms) and using one of this rom i thought i could use at least amplify ( maybe greenify too but not so sure) and stamina mode and energy saver both from sony. Would that be good or there are too many battery saver apps?
Thank you

I started with both "free versions" and then I decided, as they did together excellent job, to buy them...

Both those roms have been rated to be more battery friendly. I have not used any of them as I prefer stock. However, you can't go wrong with both amplify & greenify. Greenify is just simply a must for any rooted Android user.
You can also use BBS app to check wakelocks & alarms that drain your battery. That way you'll know exactly what is eating your battery!

I'll try something this week and i'll update with new stats!
Hey guys,
i read again some threads and i came out with these conclusions..
1. Maybe the BEST battery life (at least based on comments is the munjeni's kk .108 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...-108latest-t2862578/post55138305#post55138305) but i don't like kk that much... i was hoping on lp
2. I saw also the DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM SP001 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...velopment/rom-dstrikerz1-kai-rom-4-5-t2980761 which should be good for battery life and i thought i could use stamina mode and amplify as well but i don't which kernel should i use for this rom (help me out please )
Since i like lollipop more than kitkat shall i try dstriker rom with a custom kernel (don't know which one though, don't have any idea) and i'd like to ask if someone notice a much difference beetwen these 2 roms.
Thank you all!

KK is a big winner in battery life against Lollipop
you can try munjeni s 108 build to compare with any lollipop with any kernel and see for yourself.
i love the looks of lollipop but i always come back in kit kat, have no choice because of battery life and i don t think i miss performance or any important feature from lollipop
BTW i m on kit slim evo 9,great rom also regarding battery life.

best battery saving\performance config for marshmallow

Hello there, currently i'm using the resurrection remix + nitrogenex kernel, but if i use the phone a bit more often, or playing a game, battery discharge very very quickly.
Have you a similar config, kernel setting suggestions to obtain performance\battery saving like the latest kitkat official rom for our g?
Thanks for your replies
I dont think there is good kerner for marshmallow roms for battery. I have same problem to battery drain to fast for all marshmallow roms.
i am happy with battery life on omnirom!

Battery saving setup??(kernels/ROMs)

Very happy to find that there're still many of developers out here for the beloved G3.
So are there any recommendations for battery saving kernels and roms?
it would be much obliged if any of your battery saving setup for G3 provided.
I ' ve always loved modding so i tried hundreads of kernel and rom theese years. Stock based, aosp. Lately was thinkhing to put to rest my g3 because battery life , was really really poor whetever i tryed.
But i changed my mind recently, using a stock odex rom made my phone great again.
If u have a d855 try the odex version of this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/d855-clean-rom-1-0-t3629917
I use Greenify too
Thanks for your reply. How about the screen on time for a single full battery charge? Greenify is must I think. Enabling aggressive Doze and App-standby with GCM on would help

G710EM Stable Rom or better stock?

Hello.
I need your help guys. My Father has the G7 but he has massive battery drain while screen off. He is the typical dad using the Phone like a ... phone only calling Whatsapp and some googling from time to time. I wabt to optimize the battery. It has Android 10. Would you recommend me installing a custom rom ? And which one ist the most stable ? Thank you !
Well, custom roms have really small idle drain, what i recommend is AOSPK a12/dotos a11, aospk its not posted on xda yet but everything about dotos/aospk or my roms you can find in my telegram group https://t.me/emhub
