Sg3 not recognizing SIM card even after replacement - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So I have a couple of SG3's. I wanted to give my wife my spare but the reason I wasn't using it was due to the dreaded sensitive power button issue.
I removed the power button from the mainboard carefully.
I popped the SIM card/SD card back in and used the the charge cable and the volume down/home button to get it to boot up. Success. It booted fine but no Sim card detected.
I know the SIM card works as it's the same SIM I use in my daily SG3 phone.
I hit up the internet and read some items that said, Factory reset the phone.. Did it.. No change. Put a piece of tape or foam on top of the SIM card to make it fit 'tighter', no change.
I ordered a new SIM/SD card module and replaced it on the mainboard.. No change.
The phone is running Cyanogen 5.1.1 12.1-20150527 Unofficial d2att with Baseband I747MVLLE8 and Kernal 3.4.107 Deathly Rebirth.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the phone's model number?
Did the phone detect a sim before flashing a custom rom?
The baseband doesn't look familiar to me.

The phone is I747 and yes. I used this phone with this rom fine a few months back till I started having the sensitive power button issue and I purchased a new to me S3. This phone has just sat for about 5 months. I pulled the power button, and inserted my SIM and it booted up fine but with no SIM detected.

I'm starting to think it may be the main board for some reason. I'm tempted to buy a working used phone that is local for $40 but has a smashed up screen and pull the mainboard and pop it in my phone and trying it out. If I try this, is there anything else I need to be concerned about other than it being the same model and having a clean IMEI? I'm not concerned if it's locked because I can unlock it for free.

Just want to be clear. The first s3 (I'll refer to as number 1) was fine and developed a power button issue so you stopped using it. You then got another s3 (I'll refer to as number 2). You put number 1 away for a few months, removed the power button from number 1 and this is why it stopped detecting the SIM card. Is this correct?

Your numbering is correct. However, I am unsure if removing the power button is what caused the SIM card not being detected issue. I'm no engineer but I'm unsure how the two would be connected but it is a possibility.

How did you remove the power button? This is usually done by melting the three solder points on the board with a soldering iron and a solder sucker.
I would not expect the sim reader to be affected by removing the power button.
Does the sim work in phone 2?
Does the micro sd reader work? The sim reader and micro reader connect to the motherboard through a single connection..

Don't cringe, but I followed a youtube video that shows how to 'scrape' the power button off.. I talked to the guys at my local cellphone fixit shop and they confirmed it does work but isn't the way they usually do it. (They use the soldering iron method).
I will test the SD card in Phone 1 and then I will test the phone 1 Sim/SD card module in phone 2 and get back to you. Hopefully tonight.
Thanks for the help

Ok so I just performed the following steps.
Phone 1 booted up and is reading the SD card but still no SIM card detected.
Removed SD/SIM module from phone 2 and replaced it with the original Phone 1 module (the one I thought was defective so I ordered a new one) and SIM card and SD card both work flawlessly.
So I'm starting to believe it may be the mainboard at this point unless there's something else you want me to try,

excuse for butting in , but when you changed to phone #2 didnt you have to go to ur carrier to have them enter phone #2's IMEI? if so that might be why phone #1 no longer recognizes the sim. i.e. , phone #1's IMEI is no longer registered with carrier.
or ...... maybe i have it all wrong.
if so , please disregard all the above.

Curious to know if this is indeed the case although I don't believe so. I didn't have to tell my carrier when I switched from Phone 1 to Phone 2. I just popped in my SIM card from phone 1 to phone 2, and it told me it was locked and I entered in the unlock code and the phone has worked.

ok then. must not be the case.:good:
srry , have no other ideas.

No SIM Card

I used my phone a few days ago then put it on a shelf. The battery ran down and I left it. I then plugged it in, turned it on and left it to charge. When I came back to the phone it said 'No Sim' or similar. I have taken the battery out, cleaned the connections, taken the sim and memory card and done the same then put it all back. For some reason the phone will not recognise that I have put a SIM in there. I do not have another SIM to test but why would it suddenly stop working? Could this be a radio problem?
I am running Oops Black v1.0 WWE Rom WM6.1 CE OS 19949 on an XDA Orbit.
Thank you!
Please...anyone...help?
I cant call my girlfriend, friends or family I have no money to buy a new phone and O2 have said that becuase its out of warranty they cannot help.
I have tried flashing the phone with a new ROM but that has not made any difference. I managed to test the SIM earlier on another phone and the SIM works fine. Must be the phone.
You just need to hard/soft reset until it picks up the SIM. I was just having this issue with my Kaiser and you just need to keep puttin the sim in and out until the phone picks it up. Also try putting the sim into the sim slot and pushing it down onto the contacts.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried doing that but with no luck. It still does not like the SIM

no sim card error..

about 3-5 times a day, I'm just using my phone(Verizon gnex) and it suddenly just says
no sim card detected. and it gives me an option to restart. what I usually have to do is turn it off. pull battery out. take out sim card and reinsert. then boot up to make it work.
I haven't really flashed in awhile so I don't think its my ROM problem. I've been running liquidsmooth beta 2 from the day it came out but this problem has started about a week ago.
is it a problem with my sim card? please help me fix this issue...
Either bad SIM or you have dirty/broken pins in the SIM tray. Check that then talk to Verizon.
how do I check if mine is broken?..

Well it looks pretty obvious if you see one. One or more pins are just doesn't look right if it's broken. If you haven't noticed anything abnormal about your SIM tray, I would assume that the SIM tray is fine.
Also have you dropped it recently? If you have, it might be one of the internal that is broken. This happened to me once and had to pay 150$ to repair it. If you have same problem as I had, then your signal should decrease over time and then not read the SIM at all...
If you didn't dropped nor SIM tray is fine, I'll assume there's a problem with the SIM card itself.

Sorry for the late reply but if I go to Verizon, will they give me a new sim card if I ask for one?
would they care if I'm on a custom ROM?

I'm not really sure. I think you can replace the SIM card, but I think you have to pay for it...
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel, overclocked to 1.4GHz
I used to have that problem. Have you had the PUK password input pop up. Or sim security on?
W/ security Id have to pull the battery and pop out/in the sim after Id been on airplane or screen off for period of time

SIM card not found/lost IMEI after replacing digitizer

Hey all,
I told a friend I would replace the digitizer on his AT&T Nitro HD. The replacement went fine, but when I reassembled the phone and powered it up, it had no service and the "No SIM Card" icon is on the notification bar. I took the device back apart and reseated all the connections on the motherboard. Before I put the back housing back on, I put in the SIM card and battery in and powered it up to test real quick. The phone booted and it had service! I reassembled the phone and booted back up and there was nothing again. I have tried reseating connections again but still nothing.
I have been looking through the unbrick guides and I'm considering flashing a factory image to see if that will correct the problem. I'm fairly sure the problem isn't with hardware. Could the SIM card have been corrupted also?

It's possible that something happened to the sim card. Do you have another active sim to try?
Not a full size AT&T card. I only have access to VZW and T-Mobile micro SIM's.

A micro sim will fit inside the sim slot but it has to be positioned cardfully. You could also get a micro sim to full-size adapter.
If you can flash a stock rom try that and see if that fixes the problem.
Damaging the sim shouldn't male the phone lose its imei. Did you look for it by dialing *#06# or under About Phone?
I have everything ready from one of the unbricking guides to start from scratch, but I would want to back everything up first before going that route. I checked the Settings and *#06*# and they both say unknown/blank.

Maybe try updating using the official LG updater using recovery mode. Make sure to set your country and language. The imei should be on the label underneath the battery.
I actually tried that last night. Upgraded to V20c using the LG Update tool in recovery mode. The IMEI still wasn't present. He is just going to take it down to an AT&T Store and see what they can do.
It was a good effort on your part, that's for sure. I hope your friend has some luck with ATT. Is the phone under warranty? I'm asking because you had to replace the digitizer.
No it's not. I was hoping to get it fixed so I wasn't on the hook to replace his phone because something went wrong while I had it apart. I'm hoping they can take care of it with minimum charges or allow him to upgrade early. Thanks for the advice.
No problem. I just hope they are able to help out your friend.
It's strange that something like that would happen because taking it apart is pretty easy. Maybe something happened before you replaced the digitizer.

[HELP] No sim card - Emergency calls only - LG G3 D855

Hello guys, i have some issues with my LG G3. As the title says, the phone isn't reading the sim card, sometimes, it's working just fine, for a couple of minutes, then, a countdown begins, saying "No sim card detected", in 10 seconds my phone will reboot and that's it. "No sim card detected" again.
Every other aspect is working just fine.
Things i've already tried:
- Switching sim card and switching the sim carrier.
- Replacing sim card & microSD reader.
- Pressing down the sim card at the startup.
- Hard / Factory reset.
All of those for nothing.
I'm thinking is an software problem, is that possible?
Exactly the same problem!! Has been in and had a new sim tray, worked for 3 days then back to no sim, no service, emergency calls only. Taped down sim, changed sim, factory reset, nothing!! I am so frustrated! It's only just over a year old too so I'm not due an upgrade and it's out of warranty.
I have same problem

unfortunately, this has nothing to do with our problem, my g3 shows the correct IMEI. will try to heat the area of the motherboard located behind the sim card reader with my heatgun. some guy got it to work like this ( though he did not show any actual evidence supporting his claim, and neither did i ask for it)

Phone no longer making or taking calls?

D851, has been 100% fine until recently. Wife & I have exact same phone & RRemix N ROMs installed. Mine shows I have LTE connection w/ TMo, I can make calls, but no audio, and same when taking calls on phone. Have tried wiping, switching from 30D to 30E, etc, no joy.
Data is working 100%, just not phone calls.
I just bought this phone new a few months ago, & have treated it with care. Any suggestions on what I can do to remedy this?
Mine is more messed up
its unlocked from t-mobile And whenever i insert my sim card or any sim card if that matters its shut's down
so i'm using this phone for internet and apps because its a great phone but i had to use another phone for calls

Have you tried taking it back to them to check it? Maybe the sim card slot is broken.
Turns out mine was a hardware issue, took it in & they discovered that the contacts on the headphone jack that mate to the motherboard had corrosion on them. After they were cleaned off, good as new.
Good luck!
