Rom flashing issue - How to go to MM without S-OFF - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Sorry if this seems obvious, I've lost several hours looking for an answer and where to download the correct ROMs/right actions to do.
I use to have Android Lollipop on my phone (ARHD, dont remeber which version) and I tried to install ARHD 20.0 (MM) yesterday.
Manage to upgrade TWRP to 2.8.7.0 and manage to flash the ROM.
But, as mentioned in a very close post, MM firware isn't compatible.
Phone now stay stuck on bootloader screen.
I tried RUU update but it didn't work (bootloader is unlocked)
I then tried to lock my bootloader but fastboot/adb can't detect device (also went from W7 OS to W10 OS...) no clue why...
It seems I can't enter Fastboot mode (doesn't show on the screen, maybe it's normal).
And adb doesn't detect device properly.
Phone is S-ON so can't flash firmware directly.
Heard I should go back to ARHD14.0 but can't find any download link.
So here I am asking for help

That TWRP version is not recommended for latest rom versions. Use the latest one (TWRP 2.8.7.1-CPTB-Beta-1).
You need the Android M firmware if you want to flash Android M Sense-Roms. With S-ON you need to wait until HTC distributes the update for you SKU (which it hasn't done until now as far as I know). Btw: The firmware version you're using is more than outdated. With that version your M9 is still suffering the infamous heat problems. Nevertheless since several sources (Llabtoofer, HTC UK) hint that the Android M updates might arrive during the next week I would recommend getting back to stock (here's the needed RUU; instructions how to flash can be found in my signature), updating your phone to the latest LP firmware but waiting for the official update before reflashing a custom rom or rerooting your phone.

Which version of the M9 do you have? Also, can you get into your custom recovery?

M9 version: no clue.
Custom recovery: yes.

According to your firmware version and the fact that your phone is S-ON you own a HIMA_UHL (MID: 0PJA10000) which is branded by Orange France.

It's an SFR phone... Could it be Orange branded? Kinda weird.
But OK thanks

I don't know the relations between French providers but it's theoretically possible that SFR and Orange share the same firmware on the M9. Anyway the SKU 73 belongs to Orange France.

Figuring out CID/getting OTA Updates to work again

Hello!
I recently bought a HTC One m8 used. Sadly i did not check up on the Software and it was pre-rooted and had some older version of Viper Rom on it (2.7 i think). It was also s-on and had that bug (i believe it was a TWRP one) so it would not show me the CID nor the current version it was on. So my thought was that id like to initially get to the point where i would recieve OTA Updates again so i could update the base system to install any ROM id like. After doing research for hours and trying various stuff it seemed i could not get back to stock without the CID. So what i initially did then was use Method 2 described in this thread to Upgrade the Firmware which is now 3.28.401.9. I then change the CID to the google OTA Update one and installed the Google Play Edition Rom. The ROM was kinda buggy and did not work properly tho (i assume its still an issue that the underlying Firmware is not up-to-date enough) so i went back, changed the CID to HTC__001 and installed the stock 3.28.401.9 Rom + Recovery hoping the OTA Updates would come. It has not yet happened and i am not sure it will.
So here is my question: Will OTA Updates come if my initial CID does not match the CID i currently have even if i set it with fastboot? Is there a way for me to figure out my initial CID at this point? All i really want are working OTA Updates, after that i can install any ROM anyway, but this seems to elude me.
Thanks you!

HTC one M8(Eye)

Hi
Now i know that this might be the wrong section apologies... but since my phone is a variant of M8 and falls into this category i wanted to ask a few questions
I have my device rooted, bootloader unlocked and s-off
Running on kitkat 4.4.4
Software version 1.82.401.7
And supercid, custom recovery twrp 2.8.0.3
I live in uae and the ota for android L hasnt been released for my region but it has been released for india i have found that OTA version and downloaded it i want to know if i flash that indian region's firmware.zip to my device since it is supercid will it work? Or can i flash the the whole ota through fastboot
Please help....
Flashing firmware.zip won't work due to different MID
India version - 0P6B90000
Your version - 0P6B81000
To be able to fully convert a device to different region, you need to have same CID or SuperCID and same MID.
You can contact scotty1223 of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708581 to help you for the correct code.
(WARNING : never run any code that meant for M8 on your M8 eye - will hard brick it)
Once that is done - you can restore the older version India nandroid backup - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62987237&postcount=153
install the stock recovery then multiple OTAs to the latest lollipop version.
Ohkay i understand soo to be clear to flash any kind of firmware 1. It need to be for my specific device 2. It must match my mid and cid but mainly mid since supercid is universal and works for all region roms correct me if im wrong though
Has anybody using an htc one m8 eye anywhere in the world recieved the ota update for android m

how can i install lollipop in my htc m8 one eye indian version... i already unlock my bootloader

upgrading from 5.1 to 6.0 on device without OTA?

i'm bought myself a donor phone on ebay to use as a test for my main M9.
the main m9 is on a vodafone UK CID which has 6.0.1 OTA'd to it.
the donor phone is from South Africa, HTC__016, and latest OTA is 5.1, sim-unlocked and S-ON.
so far, i've unlocked the bootloader via htcdev, have TWRP (2.x.x.x which seems to be the latest i can currently get to work on the recovery partition) but struggling to find the next peice of the puzzle on how to upgrade it to a 6.0 ROM.
The TWRP recoveries for the CID dont seem to be working despite reporting sucessful restore, with download mode still reporting OS version of 2.10.401.1.
I'm aiming to get the Viper 6.0 ROM on it, but i'm currently having issues updating the 'OS' version to even start to look at the viper ROM install.
Any sugestions what to try? i'm working with the assumption i need to get the OS upto a 3.x version but cant find anything that works.
You have to upgrade to 6.0 firmware to get 6.0 twrp and roms to work. The simplest way to do that is to s-off and flash manually.
If your main phone is on 6.0 you won't have these problems.
thanks for the help..
time to get 5.1 back on it and run through s-off

HTC One M9 on Bluegrass Cellular

Back in August, I got a HTC One M9 from Bluegrass Cellular. (The phone came with Android 5.1) I decided to root it and try a custom ROM. I downloaded a snapshot for CM13 himawl. (Since that's the variant according to Download mode) I flashed it in TWRP only to get an error about sbl1. I since found an unofficial nightly of cm12.1 himawl built on November 17, 2015. It flashed and works fine to this day, but I'd like to have newer features and better security. How would I go about doing this? I can't seem to find the correct RUU. I tried the unlocked RUU to see if it would work, but it was to no avail. I'm S-on if that helps.

I'm pretty sure that in order to use a Marshmallow-based ROM (ie, CM 13), you need the Marshmallow firmware first. I imagine the same will be true for Nougat ROMs....though I don't think we've got anything beyond stock just yet.
I imagine that if you were able to achieve S-OFF on your phone, you could apply the appropriate RUU to get you up to the latest available firmware for your phone. To be clear, I don't know what that is (I'm not familiar with the himawl models) - but it should be possible.

I believe that's what's going on here. I'm just trying to see if there are any alternatives or RUU's known to work with my s-on phone before I resort to the $25 investment of Sunshine.

Just for the fact you get an extra chance to unbrick if it goes wrong is worth the $25. IMO S-OFF is a necessity for htc phones.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I tried the test in the Sunshine app, but it said to flash stock or near stock rom. I mistakenly didn't backup my stock ROM before flashing cm12.1. Anyone know a ROM I could flash to s off?

You're on Android 5, right? Android Revolution HD 14, which is built off of stock Android 5.1.0, should do the trick.
Very important sidenote: Don't change the MID/CID or the firmware of this device! It's a CDMA one and therefore not compatible with the GSM firmwares like the dev edition or the WWE one. Otherwise you'll end up with a fancy new paperweight. Just stay with the SKU (the three numbers between the second and the third dot in the firmware version) it is currently using since not even the different CDMA firmwares/devices are compatible with each other.

In my case, the SKU is 605. Is there a newer 605 I can update to access Marshmallow? I recall when I was stock, I tried to update to MM through OTA in settings, but apparently my carrier never approved the update. 5.1 appeared to be the "latest."
605 is the verizon-branded firmware. There definitely is an android m update for your phone.

It's Verizon WWE. That's not the same as sku 401 (WWE).
Either you try that one or you download the exe from the HTC US website.
I can't say for sure whether it'll work. According to the sku the RUU should be flashable. You'll need to try by yourself. An alternative would be contacting llabtoofer's RUU service. However that one isn't for free. (Either search for it via google or use the direct link in my google sheet if you want to use that service.)

HTC 10 O2 UK - no radio

Hi,
I had a reset / boot loop issue on my HTC 10 running LeeDroid.
I decided to flash with LeeDroid Oreo, and used a different firmware (changing the android file to be CID HTC__001). Obviously, this screwed the phone.
Essentially, I am able to get Nougat on to the phone, either LeeDroid or stock - but I am having difficulty with the radio. There isn't an IMEI number coming up.
Any advice on how to get this back please? MID 2PS620000, CID-HTC__001 on UK O2.
I do have the IMEI number, taken from getvar.
It's s-off (from sunshine - when it was boot looping).
Again, obviously I didn't take a back-up because that would have been the right way to do it!
Thanks for your help!

It was 2.51.617.32 from https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/2016-05-27-fastboot-flashing-firmware-t3387520.
I then tried 2.41.401.41 which is International rather than dev, then 2.28.401.6 and 1.95.401.4.
I can't see, find the original one for my phone...
Is there some firmware just for the radio, do you know?

This is a common problem when flashing OREO ROM without OREO firmware. You lose radio and can't get it back until you update. You need to Flash the latest Nougat RUU then update to OREO by OTA or manually flash with stock recovery.
Here is the RUU you need for CID HTC__001

Thanks - I am sure you know a lot more than me but as I have s-off though, I thought I would have full access to change firmware rather than being locked to Oreo? Do I need to wait until my carrier supports Oreo then?
Perhaps my question should really be - can someone help me get the IMEI number / radio working in Oreo please?
Thanks,
