Has anyone else recently been getting wakelocks keeping your phone awake? This started for me in the past week. Before, I was never having a wakelock keeping my phone awake.
It's been either nlpcollectorwakelock or IPA_WS(or something like that). Either way, it seems to always be tied to Google play services and it's really annoying.

I have the same issues.
Random drain for no apparent reason. It's not associated with a particular app which leads me to believe it is an issue with Google Play services.
Have you put some bug reports into Historian to see what it tells you?

My problem has disappeared since I've switched my location setting from High Accuracy to Battery Savings Mode. I believe it's definitely some weird issue with Play Services, which is weird because I've never had wakelocks anywhere near as bad as I was having with High Accuracy mode before.

I recently noticed play services has been causing wake locks more frequently too. I feel like we should be able to have location mode on high without that happening....

I am seeing the same issue on my Nexus 5X, this time IPA_WS appeared after a full charge.
Somebody says it's related to Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (Mobile Broadcasts), I have already disabled all the notification options, but does not actually take any effect.

Rebooting helps but it's not a solution.
I can't find a way to replicate this issue, and I do not know what logs to get, otherwise I would have already opened an AOSP bug.

Just had it happen to me now. It's getting to be almost daily (or at least every other day). Very annoying. I am not rooted, but my normal battery stats clearly shows the phone in wake-lock, google play services as the biggest percentage, and the "keep awake" time for google play services is almost the same number of minutes since last full charge.
Rebooting does temporarily fix as you stated, but it just happens again the next day or later on.
Really hoping someone finds a solution or that google can patch ASAP. I keep reporting the app to google and sending logs each time it happens. But I'm not sure what that really does for them...
I haven't noticed Play Services, but I have had Facebook keeping my phone awake since it updated last week. Greenify has been unable to hibernate it, keeps popping up with a new wake up path that needs cut.

Please do not add confusion - Facebook and Messenger are having issues but this is another story, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/bugreporter-wakelocks-updating-facebook-t3287014 You will be able to find the APKs that do not cause wakelocks.
Regarding IPA_WS, I rebooted my device yesterday afternoon to mitigate the issue, then I have disabled via MyAndroidTools app all the components of Mobile Broadcasts : Services, Broadcast Receivers, Activities and Content Providers.
I can't yet say if the following procedure fixed the issue, but.... There is still a number of IPA_WS wakelocks, and 16mins is not irrelevant. Ok, there are no issues (For now), but I would not expect any wakelock. Damn, this story is killing me and my battery.
EDIT: Disabled the Mobile Broadcasts app (MyAndroidTools > Apps > select Mobile Broadcasts > disable). Let's see who's a badass now.
EDIT2: I think this solution is working. Just disable the app in MyAndroidTools as described above.
NO
Even if I disabled Mobile Broadcasts i am still getting IPA_WS wakelocks. Terrible.
Any update on this? This has become a near daily occurrence for me now and can't figure out a pattern of events that trigger it.

Did you run the adb commands to make it work? I don't use auto hibernate, just AD. But I believe it shouldn't need root anymore. I know AD works for me without root.
As an update for this thread, I've had aggressive doze disable for three days now and the wake locks have stopped. I'll have to drop a line in the greenify thread.

Hey Guys!
I have also been having this problem and was getting a little frustrated by it too. However I at least found the problem on my phone and a good method for fining it on another phone.
Mine was being cause by the Adult Swim Games App Giant Boulder of Death! Anytime I opened up the game and didn't close it or force it to stop my screen would say on even on other screens or after a lock and unlock. I went into Setting>Battery and started go look through the details of the apps that might have a reason to keep my screen on. Sure enough Giant Boulder of Death reported battery use details had "keep Awake: 1h 3m 7s" and since I had only played for maybe 5 min earlier that day so I force stopped it. The screen faded out 15 seconds later. I'm guessing that there is an issue with the latest update regarding how the keep Awake feature/app permission is switched off when an app is moved to the background since people are having it all over the place with no common thread.
Anyways I hope this helps people

How to check: Install BetterBatteryStats and then check Kernel Wakelocks.
It seems bam_dmux_wakelock has something to do with mobile data. It's sort of the equivalent of the wlan_rx wakelock which is for keeping the WiFi signal active when the screen is off. I've tested and verified that if you turn on wi-fi and use that, bam_dmux_wakelock stops happening (since now wlan_rx wakelock is there) but the moment you turn off wi-fi the bam_dmux_wakelock starts going.
What's odd is I've had my phone off the charger for 6 hours but yet the bam_dmux_wakelock has only been running for about an hour...the only thing that seems to coincide with this is using Bluetooth to stream audio (although I did that earlier without issue too!).
I'll post a screenshot below as an example but I'm hoping by finding others with this problem we can find root cause and fix it!
Thanks.
What is known:
- It is related to 3G/LTE radio and not wifi
- Turning the phone's airplane mode on stops bam_dmux_wakelock from occurring. Turning Airplane mode off and when data connects, bam_dmux_wakelock starts again.
- Turning Wifi on stops bam_dmux_wakelock from occurring
- Rebooting the phone DOES NOT STOP bam_dmux_wakelock from occurring without uninstalling any apps or changing anything. So this is present at boot-up.

I have noticed this also. It have tied it to Bluetooth in my car. When I paired my S3 with my car it asked me if I wanted to let the car download my address book. I said yes but did not check the "Remember this choice". So the next time I got in and it asked I told it no and then checked the remember box. From what I can tell this was causing my car to keep asking my phone for the address book over and over. I have since redid the paring and allow the address book to sync each time I get in the car and this as stopped this wake lock for me so far. It has helped my batt also. When I was in the car the battery was dropping fast. Now it does not. Next time it happens try tuning off BT and see if it stops.

I think BAM is Bluetooth something. So I think it is tied to BT. But as I think about it that does follow mine also. Once it started which was each time I got in my car it would not stop the battery drain unless I rebooted. Even if I did not use the car. So the way I see it once you trip it there is no stopping it unless you reboot. But that be different than what you are seeing.

See the problem with that is even after a reboot it starts and runs a little although not constantly without even connecting BT. If we at least knew what it stood for it would make it easier to troubleshoot. Also if it's Bluetooth it doesn't make sense for it to stop when you switch to wifi. It has to do with the mobile radio and mobile data for sure

Ok so doing some more playing and my latest guess is the firmware update. So I went in and tried to check for an update date just for the heck of it. Right after that I started to notice the phone being just a bit warm. Then an hour or so later I could see the battery was dropping. Bam waitlock was there also. I did 2 things and one of them stopped it. I flipped air plane mode on and off and the turned mobile data off and on. The mobile data one I read in another thread that stopped it. Once I did that phone cooled and battery decline stopped. Now when I do a check for an update I get an error that it can not reach the server and it will try again in 48 hours. That seems strange to me. Every other android phone I have owned will say something along the lines like " your software is up to date" or something like that. So I am wondering if this starts when the phone tries to check for an update and can not reach the server and keeps trying or something that keeps the radio alive. See if you can recreate it. I will be watching mine.

Yeah definitely not Bluetooth - haven't used Bluetooth (has been off) and I've been getting bam_dmux wakelock. I think it has to do with keeping the mobile radio active so the phone can send/receive data. Have you tried turning off autosync and seeing if that makes it stop? I have a feeling similar to keeping Wifi awake, this wakelock keeps the radio awake so the phone can receive data. I bet the less stuff you have running that's waiting for updates the better!
My guess is we will need a firmware update to fix this. It is either something deep in the radio or internal processes since we can not really see it in any tool.
I know it's a bit of an old thread, but has there been any progress made discovering what this is? I've been trying to tackle my battery usage issues and this is one of my big sleep wake offenders.

I'd also like to know this...
Add me to the list of people who cant figure out what is causing this wakelock. There is very little info about it on the internet.
I just made a discovery - I had recently installed Google Tracks and played with it a bit. Shortly after that is when I started noticing the bam_dmux_wakelock. It finally clicked today that Tracks could be the culprit. So I saved the tracks I had created, uninstalled, and no more bam_dmux_wakelock! Well, that's not entirely true - it's still there, but instead of being *hours* of usage it's down to seconds.
Does anyone else who has noticed this have Tracks installed? If so, will you try uninstalling it to see if you have the same results I did?
I think you are on to something. I noticed my Google maps had its location settings turned on for Latitude. So my phone was tracking me and uploading my location. I turned this off and of course battery was much better but all most no bam_wakelock. Check and see if this is turned on by going to maps then Location Settings. Turn them all off. Unless you want your friends to be able to track you.

BAM dmux is for mobile data so anything that keeps mobile data connection open it will show up. Stands for broadband access multiplier demultiplier. It's normal.
Just means something is keeping data connection alive. I did more research.

Thanx for the explanation. I'm gonna try to find the culprit then.
A combination of uninstalling Tracks and disabling the Google auto-backup solved my battery drain problem. Took a reboot after turning off backup before I really saw a difference, though.
My bam_dmux_wakelock is still there, but nowhere near the level it was before. And after reading the above explanation that makes sense.

Oh... and this is only 1 hour of screen on time...
I guess my cell signal kinda BLOWS??? could this be the culprit?
Your signal search seems to suck, may be one issue. Another thing to try is go to system/bin and delete at add .bak to qosmgr and gsiff_daemon. They tend to try and run scripts for your CPU that don't apply. Next, do a Google search for kill media server apk. When you run it, it kills the media server that tends to eat a lot of battery. Disable sync on Google magazine/book/movies also. Last, buy gsm battery monitor from the play store and also battery battery stats. They will identify what's eating or power supply. Almost always on power up you can see the download/media app runs like crazy and if you don't force stop will just continue to drain and run.
You may also want to check into different governor settings to see if it will help. I also found it helpful to turn off Facebook sync unless i use the app....do the same for others u don't use like Google talk, maps, etc.

You seem to have a wakelock issue. Did you turn off google now and disable report location in Maps?
Also, if your signal is the problem, you can test that by either 1) disabling the cellular radio (airplane mode + wifi on), or 2) by forcing roaming on another network with a better signal (roam control, internal roaming settings of the rom, using a different prl etc.)
Couple things to help for sure.... GTalk is auto sign in.. So make sure it's signed out, Sync settings, Extend duration between them! (Emails to few hours instead of push (Obviously it'll sync when you open the app), Try running Juice defender, It'll disable data if screen off. (SMS comes through) Brightness, turn it down some, I'm running the Ktoonservative with the kernel.. Netting atleast 2 hours screen on, 11+ hours battery and still sitting about 60% remaining (most days) Those are the settings i'm using and things i'm doing. (I play games off and on, Text, read forums, news, facebook) also, ensure Media isn't running. (Not media server) it's known to eat some battery randomly. Just a few things off the top of my head to help.

Wifi or cellular, it doesn't matter as far as wakelocks are concerned.
Cellular data consumes more battery than wifi data.
Unless you disable data all together, using wifi is more efficient way to run your phone.

On you are not grasping my simple statement I never said WiFi want more efficient but it would be foolish to pretend it doesn't wake lock and kernel alarm it up. For one wpa pretty much requires it to communicate every so often. Other reason.... couldn't tell you why precisely but of you look then you will notice it does in fact create huge wake periods

I would suggest killing your mobile data, or for a more extreme test running in airplane mode with wifi on.
I personally get 20-30 hours at home browsing the web / texting / googling / etc over the weekend, maybe 18-20 when im out and about. But at work i get MAYBE 6 hours, with under 30 minutes scrren on and usually less and an hour awake. Why the huge difference? Mobile signal strength at home i keep mobile data off, and wifi on, and have ~ -75dbm signal strength. At work i have no wifi and ~ -110dbm and my phone is constantly trying to get a better signal.

Hello,
I was wondering if you guys would be kind enough to help me figure out what has been going on with my battery lately.. First up, here is all the relevant info:
Phone: Galaxy Nexus GT-i9250 GSM
Network: T-Mobile USA
ROM: Paranoid Android 2.54 - this is based on 4.1.2 - NOT the latest 4.2.1
Kernel: Franco Kernel Milestone 6 <-- My battery issues only started after I switched to this kernel. I had to ditch the stock kernel than came with PA because it was slow as molasses.
Here is the battery drain that shows 43% of total battery was drained in 6 hours

Here are some more details that show how much time the phone was awake:
Partial wakelocks are shown here using BetterBatteryStats. I don't know what AudioOut_2 is but it's sucking down battery. Exchange is another battery hog evidently.. I don't understand why Google Plus is running, I NEVER open the program.
Here are the kernel wakelocks:
Here are the alarms that show which app is waking up the device how many times. LightFlow and Exchange seem to do this a lot. I have no idea why maps keeps waking my phone, I haven't opened Maps once or changed locations but the location service is relentless.
Here is CPU Spy showing that Deep Sleep is definitely working:
Please can anyone help me figure out why my battery drain is so out of control? I forgot to screenshot screen on time but it was less than 30 minutes. You can sort of see this from the graph on image #2.
Thank you in advance.
Bumping this in hopes that someone is able to help me figure this out.
it seems like your signal is fairly bad most of the time, that will drain your battery pretty bad since the device will try to seek better signal.
also, i would suggest you to upgrade to latest PA along with latest franco r361, I see a significant battery improvement after the upgrade.
light flow is keeping your phone awake as well.

Thanks. Yes the signal is not great at my office, but it hasn't changed in the last few months. What has changed however, is how drastically my battery is now dying, this is recent.
I would update to the the new PA with 4.2.1 but there are a few things I'm not ready to give up yet like the old toggles etc. Once the new PA builds some of those older features back in, I'll be upgrading for sure.

Yes it is, I don't know why it wakes up my phone so much. I tried checking the "reduce phone wakes" option, but that seems to miss notifications all the time.
Overall, even with not so great signal and light flow running, this battery drain just seems WAY too much, would you agree?
what is your screen on time?

How often do you charge the battery? Do you plug it in all the time? Do you run it dead all the time? Your battery may be getting shot out, happened to my wife's to the point it would not take a charge. New battery fixed it. Buy a battery of eBay for ten bucks. Worse comes to worse you have a backup battery if that wasn't the problem. Audio out only took 3.5% and most of the time was deep sleep. I think your battery is dying

Worse comes to worse you have a backup battery if that wasn't the problem. Audio out only took 3.5% and most of the time was deep sleep. I think your battery is dying

I charge it at least once a day - every night. Sometimes I'll plug it in during the day if I know I'm going out in the evening just so it'll be topped off when I go out. But I thought charging these batteries a lot didn't affect their ability to hold a charge?
I'll definitely buy a new battery either way, hopefully that's what it is.
In case anyone else has any other insight, please do share in the meantime.

I'll miss it, but it's worth checking out what the battery does without LightFlow. Thanks!

For Maps wakeups. Try disabling auto location update if its not already. Open Maps > Settings > Location update (something like that)

Cheers. I do already have everything turned off, screenshot attached.
Could it be Google Now that's causing these location updates? It always knows how far away Home is when I'm away from Home.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that Google Now could be a major culprit in draining battery. I'm going to try disabling it entirely to test. Do you have any experience with that by any chance? On how it affects battery?

You're right, I set it to "do not update your location". What does this do exactly? Looks promising though.

Report any and all bugs you've come across while using the Kit Kat update. I'll update the OP when things get verified by more than one person.
As this phone isn't my daily driver (switched back to an iPhone. FOR SHAME!) I have only come across one bug.
The brightness resets back to 100% and turns off Auto Brightness upon a reboot.
So far from what I can tell:
1) Home LED does not stay consistent when plugged in. Sometimes the LED will be 100%, and sometimes it will be at around 50%.
I did not get the Auto-brightness Bug mentioned above. When I have Auto-Brightness on and restart the phone, it stays on.

Yeah, LED pulses as it charges. Not sure if thats what you're seeing.
So, the brightness bug only happens when you don't have a sim card in the phone. Odd.
Seems there is a bug with battery stats shown by the battery stats app
When the battery stats app is launchedjust after reboot, it fails to show any battery consumption against the screen..however once the phone is put to sleep and woken up, the screen time starts showing, but with the screen on time only after the screen is woken up, which leaves out any screen on time before the phone was put to sleep..this leads to underreporting of screen on time
For example stats below show screen on time of 1hr 30 mins, while it should be more like 2 hr 30 mins (1 hour was the use just after reboot but before putting the phone to sleep for the first time)

Some Qslide Apps open and close very quickly. Any suggestions on a fix?
If you use SwiftKey you may get the error message: Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped. A quick uninstall reboot and reinstall fixed the issue for me. Seems to be common. You may not see it (from the Play version) either as I am using the paid version from Amazon.

Yeap. same issue. Battery life is extremely crappy.
I have seen the exact opposite regarding battery life. Since the update my wife's G Pro has had great battery life.

Battery has been great for me too. Doesn't seem worse possibly even better. Many times it takes a couple days to stabilize and if you are playing with the KitKat goodness a lot that could be part of it. I did factory reset and install all apps from scratch.

Those with bad battery life... Did you use a TOT, Update from a previous version, or flash the ROM? I am worried the ROM does not flash the modem. This may be causing wakelocks.

It's been roughly two days I suppose since I updated. Haven't used my phone much, it just drains quickly now. May as well factory reset and see what happens. Good to hear you guys are having luck with the update. Cheers!

I flashed tot, sometimes when I try to make a call the first one will wait and then pop a message saying mobile network not available, then the second call will go through but takes significant extra time. Anyone else have this issue or should I reflash?
Okay so I know people have been having the Cell Standby battery drain issue which I am affected by as well however turning off WiFi fixes that problem temporarily, My main issue is with Android OS and Google Play Services. Turning off location access seems to help with the Google Play Services but Android OS loves to eat the rest of my battery and honestly i'm lucky to get an hour of screen on time.
Anyone know of any solutions to this? I'm running stock everything, baseband version G925TUVU2COF6.

So I don't know how or why but I just restored my phone twice in a row and it's fine now. Why did I do it twice? Because the first restore caused the phone to lag and the fingerprint sensor stopped working. Anyways, I've been using it for like 3 hours and my screen is actually the most battery consuming thing like it should be so if it changes back to its old ways I'll report back.

Greatly appreciated. How is it today? I guess restoring is an option I can try but such a pain
-Collin-
So it's back to its old ways and I'm guessing it's because I updated Google Play Services and after that the issue started happening again. However I should have noted in my last post that while doing the initial setup of the phone I did not allow tmobile diagnostics like I normally do so that may play a role in this, but I'm pretty sure it's just google.
The restore though did appear to fix the cell standby issue that I previously had because I'm leaving wifi on 24/7 even with wifi power saving mode off in the service menu (dial *#0011#) and it's not causing excess drain anymore.

What's WiFi power save mode?
Edit: nvm. Just Googled it. Lol. Does it stay off or do I have to keep turning it off manually? Seems like the S3 guys back in the day said they had to keep turning it off manually. My WiFi connections are actually a lot better right now. Usually get bad connection in my room.
Mine stays off I don't have to keep switching it. I keep mine off because apparently samsungs are finicky with ASUS routers. :/

It will start acting up again soon. You can boot into recovery and just clear cache and get the same result for a day or two.
UPDATE -- I have fixed my drain issue on WiFi
So I just recently received my S6 Edge on Monday. Rooted it immediately using the AOU kernel method to not trip KNOX. After that, of course turned on Wifi to get all my apps back and downloaded. Later on Monday, I was at work and phone was perfect without any drain. Got home and it connected to my Wifi and it just smoked through my battery sitting doing nothing.
Started research and seen it was dealing with WiFi. Well I am here to tell you it is not. It is SPECIFICALLY due to the com.tmobile.pr.adapt. I had this keep popping up after rooting and it wanted access...so given it was tmobile I granted it. This morning, I woke up, turned off VoLTE and left WiFi on and it did nothing but draining my battery 4% in 20 minutes sitting dark on a table. Turned off wifi and it worked great(basically stopped it in its tracks) so I went to the market, downloaded Package Disabler and disabled that com.tmobile.pr.adapt. My phone has now been sitting at 95% for 25 minutes. Welp...just dropped to 94% but I would say my battery drain issue is solved.
I will most likely be using Titanium and deleting it but wanted to just turn it off for now to see if it was the issue.
After 1hr30 minutes, I have dropped 3% and this is while using the phone and letting it sit idle.

Big mistake.
Com.tmobile.pr.adapt is what tmobile installs on these phones to check for root.
Once enabled it reports to tmobile that your device is rooted, and if any issues come up warranty wise they will reject your warranty.
Aou warns in his thread not to grant su permission to this app after rooting.

Thanks for that info. Not a big deal to me since I never take my phones in. As well, I got this one from someone else. But definitely good information for anyone who is planning on rooting.

I just noticed that disabling the service requires root, so my journey to success was rather short-lived.
I don't care about my warranty, but why on earth would this app be responsible for the battery drain issue if all it does is check for root? Argh.
Still happily draining 25% per hour while phone is sitting idle...
-Collin-
When you go to "battery" and click on detail, then click on the app you can see how much info this app sends in your data usage back to tmobile.
This how most of these apps suck up your battery.
Pp.
I switched from a 5ghz network to 2.4ghz network and can leave wifi on without severe battery drain. Stock, not rooted. Cell standby is still #1, but there is a noticeable improvement in battery life and you get to keep wifi turned on.
So I was able to root my phone without tripping knox and I installed Wakelock detector, here's some screen shots if this helps someone out trying to figure out exactly what is causing the issue, because even with root battery drain is still there.
