Never modified M8 has heavy software issues. Can it be fixed by root/rom? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Girlfriends M8 which was never modified in any way recently started to act very strange. First data and call reception was totally gone like a GSM brick and now the navigation and status bar have disappeared. A factary reset didn't fix either of the problems and now after every boot there are a few additional force closes. Warranty repair is of the table because the device was purchased in Germany but we live in Taiwan now. I was wondering if flashing a new software could help at least the navigation and status bar to come back but it doesn't seem to want to tell me the imei which is needed for the bootloader unlock.. However fast boot and stock recovery can be accessed without problem. Can anyone help me on how to proceed here?

Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output. Delete IMEI number (if it shows up there) and serial number, before posting the getvar output.
Can a custom ROM help? Maybe, maybe not.
You can also try the RUU, before modifying the phone. RUU for your version is listed on the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376

Okay i got fastboot up and running and i want to try to flash a ruu. I figured 401.10 is the way to go because that is the latest one i can find for this device but my version is 401.13 will that be a problem?

I didn't notice in your hboot photo, that you are version .13 (and getvar output I asked for would have helped).
You can try the RUU, but I think it will fail version check (can't run an RUU with lower version number). But its worth a try, since the version numbers are so close.

uhhh Thanks!!!!!
problem, that can't pull down notification bar, reading a lot of docs today and still nothing, than I'm thinking that t.screen has failure
Now I'm looking for new RUU for flashing but where is new RUU?.... or maybe only OTA, really don't know now what;'s going on...
Tried to update via cwm OTA , but cid -fail? with cid is for superCID ?, I'm so tired today...alredy
someone else can do it? pls
I have no problems with pulling my notification area down... even in fullscreen apps like the Draw Test I can pull my notification down (I use SmartStatusbar to pull notification in fullscreen apps).
Unfortunately RUU is not leaked, and an OTA is not a ROM, just an update to a specific ROM.
mike1986. has a flashable version of the international (4.18.401.2) ROM, that could get you as close to stock as possible.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
Good luck!

You cannot, once a device is unlocked it can only be "relocked", you can never get it back in "locked" state. You were warned explicitly when you first unlocked your phone.

then unlock bootloader and flash some custom sense5 rom and hope your IMEI will be back
is that the only solution. i got the imei at the case from the phone. isnt any way to put the imei manualy?
if that not possible can you tell me in few words or linkd how can i unlock the bootloader and which rom is the purest to install. (most similar to the stock)
flash one of these stock roms via cwm or twrp:

MaximusHD or ARHD are close to stock you can restor nandroid backup with your main version and see if your IMEI is back. No way to write your IMEI manually
I have same problem..but do not have any luck yet

Getting 5.x Lollipop Update on Rooted HTC ON M8 International

Hi all
Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but I cannot find any information on this for the life of me and it's driving me mad.
I have a notification stating that my 5.0 OTA update is ready but I can't install it due to the Custom Recovery on my device.
I followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376) and flashed the 'stock' (not actually Stock - every link it CWM or TWRP) recovery but it didn't work and the update still fails. I think I read somewhere that something is different about this particular update.. that you need to have an 'untouched'/never rooted device?
Plllleeeeeeeeeeeeeease can someone steer me in the right direction so I can get this update sorted?
Thanks in advance.
have you made any system modifications to your current rom?
Also need CID and firmware version number
ALSO needs to be in Q&A (asked the mods to move)
Thanks for that.

ok so you have clean 3.29.401.9 stock rom installed, if not restore the nand available in my thread via TWRP. (may be best to do this as a fresh start)
Next install the 3.28.401.9 stock recovery.img from the first post in my thread.
hoprfully then u should be able to tale OTA automatically

every link is CWM or TWRP are stock Nandroid backup, not recovery.img
Look under Stock Recovery Images for the stock recovery
Thanks for your help, that seems to have done it.
The first time I didn't pay enough attention to my correct Software number (in my case 3.28.401.9). When I matched up my CID (HTC_001) I just picked a random link on that list which is why it didn't work.
Got it going now and back on custom recovery so thanks again for your assistance

Restoring Stock rom

Could I restore Stock rom on my htc m9 and how to do that?
And how I now which RUU to chose?
https://www.google.com/url?q=https:...134000&usg=AFQjCNGdzDwYjWYwYr-RSW3t2U9j47aOJw
Download this file. Copy it to your ext sdcard and rename it to 0PJAIMG.zip
Connect your phone to fastboot and type fastboot oem lock
Boot into download mode. Phone will prompt you to install. Press volup and wait.
Before u start backup ecerything
If you're already linking one of my files you could've linked my instructions, too, since what you wrote isn't completely correct. Re-locking the bootloader is unnecessary if you use the SD card method. In the worst case (e.g. if the RUU fails and OEM unlock isn't activated in the developer options) you could end up with a non-booting phone that can't be re-unlocked. The M9 has security checks that prevents it from booting if it isn't completely stock and the bootloader gets (re-)locked. And although I tested that RUU there can always be reasons why it fails to flash.
Could you be more specific please, I am new with htc and I dont know anything about it, What is fastboot? And if you have some time to tell me step buy step how to do that i would be greatiful. Sorry for bad english
Im sorry Flippy498 i just want to help him. You are a genious and i respect you. You are a life saver.

My bad. I didn't notice that my signature isn't visible in this thread.
Edit: I don't know why the link gets broken as soon as I save this post. You'll need to copy'n'paste the link.
THX a lot, now I'm gonna to try to restore stock rome!
@Flippy498 I have just one question, I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly but I still have Software Status marked as Modified. Would I be able to receive software updates ?
Yes, you will. And you'll be able to install them, as well. (Receiving updates is not the problem, it's being able to install them if the system has been modified. However, a RUU reverts every modification you made.)
It's just strange that the flag still says that your system is modified. Normally the SD card method should reset it to original. But that shouldn't be a problem. OTAs don't check that flag. They compare whether the checksum of the system is the same as the reference value. Since a RUU overwrites the current system with the stock one you won't face any problems here.
Thanks a lot dude for your great work and quick reply !

Upgrade from old version of PureFusion?

Hi there, everyone.
I have a big or small problem. I want to be able to flash the newest Lineage or pixel experience, but I'm not sure how to upgrade the firmware. Below, you can see the version of PureFusion. I searched the forums and it sees that i need to upgrade the firmware first as i'm on the old nougat one.
The problem comes now, my phone is UNLOCKED, but S-ON and the CID is HTC_034 Europe. I'm not sure what method to use to upgrade the firmware, as it's a bit vague. For some CID you can't find the files, or other stuff. Can someone help me with some information in this case?

Totally wrong, the current purefusion rom has nothing to do with upgrading your firmware. You need to enter download mode, look at your OS number and search for the ruu that matches that number. Flash it, update and flash TWRP, than the desired rom. Whatever purefusion is showing is not what you need
