So my 1.8ghz 2gb zen2 model was thrown and the only thing that stop working is the sim1 slot. So instead of waiting for repair I purchased the 1.8ghz 4gb model.
Crazy thing... Both phones are set up exactly the same. Fully stock. It seems the 4gb model is using more ram than the 2gb model. I have less than 800mb avail on both. Makes no sense at all. Any ideas why or has anyone else noticed this?
Why are all People complaining about RAM usage. Only a full RAM is a good RAM.
More Apps in RAM doesn't mean more battery usage like on Windows.
I didn't say anything about battery. I payed the extra $30 for 4gb so when I'm switching between apps, and I usually have quite a few running, that they aren't reset when I switch between them.
I was just wondering why I seem to have less ram available than my 2gb model. Which I was gonna reply seemed to fix with a cache partition wipe.

Well the 4g (really it's 3.8g but they round that up) ram model is a 2.3ghz processor and are you sure you are reading your ram usage correctly? I have the 2.3 4g ram 64g hd and it shows more than 1 g usable ram left (it's about 1900 to 2000 used on this picture with apps in the background) completely stock. If you are reading correctly it might be the apps your running. In short though your suppose to have higher ram usage and the kernel frees ram as needed when your ram gets too low and that's exactly how proper ram management should work.

You would clear the ram by pressing the power & boost quicktile or by quick pressing the window swap hw button on the bottom right of your phone and clearing your recent apps.
Here is a pic after clearing the recent apps.

That's the theory, yeah - RAM on Android should be mostly filled up and then released by the OS as needed depending on use. But for whatever reason on the stock ASUS firmware the OS is not managing RAM effectively - it's taking up too much and not releasing it properly. Mine drops as low as 200MB and then there are very noticeable slow downs. Not sure if this is because of 5.0 memory leaks, or bad RAM management specific to ASUS code. I have had to limit background processes under the developer options in settings to acheive acceptable smooth running.

Dear members,
I've seen that someone asked before how much free memory do you have on your Nexus.
I think that this depends ALOT on what rom do you have installed.
And when it comes to this subject, I've seen that my memory tends to decrease over time, for example when starting (and killing almost everything) I have between 410 and 460 mb, and in 48 h (without turning off) I see that it decreases to 330 mb (this is again, when killing every app with task killer and clearing recent apps).
Do you know why this happens??? And who wants to know, I'm running Codename Android.
(Paranoid Android tends to use more memory: when starting (and killing every app with task killer and clearing recent apps) there is 340 mb free.)

This probably had been asked at least 200 times now. The reason is that 300-400mb amount of ram is being used by gpu and stuff. So only 600 is available for the cpu

Lol ok.
Well than the answer is that apps takes more ram over time. But you take shouldn't worry about them, since android takes good care of the ram anyways

In Android, unused RAM is wasted RAM. Yes, more and more will show used over time, but will also free up on its own, as well as when it is needed. I'm well over 80hrs uptime and have 350-375MB free. I use stock, no mods, no task killers, nothing.

So you really couldn't just add the 345 used and the 349 free?
694 right there with the rest of the GB probably already allocated to system tasks.

"FREE" ram doesn't work like that anymore, this isnt windows 98. When your system or app requires more ram it reallocates it to satisfy the active application. It isn't a simple concept as you are used to where ram was simply gauged as if it were a glass of water and the more unused water was measurable. Now the system holds it in reserve.
free ram will be different every single time you check.

By this i understand that regardless of which amount of free ram is the right one, i shouldnt pay that much attention to it
And to stop trying to manage my ram
Ive heard something like that before
Well as long as it doesnt slow down i wont worry that much

i was looking to buy the 32 GB ver but it was hard to find in my area , so i went with the 16 GB ver .
and ever since it annoys me a bit every time i see the amount of free ram .
makes me think its on the edge of the performance , like , another app and it'll squeeze the last of its juice .
when i tried to clean all the possible proccesses i got something around 900 mb of free ram which climbed back to around 400 of free ram really fast .
how much of free rm do you have ? and is there any suggestions to steralize it to the max ? ( with preferabilityto keep it that way )
mine is about 400mb left out of the 2GB RAM.
On Android, you want as much of the RAM to be in use as possible.
Mine is 1.2G on the 32G version.
If you have 900M so it's very good. 400 is acceptable. As long as you don't have <100M it will be smooth.

Yes and no. You need Ram so the apps can sit open in the background however when you run out of Ram, apps will start closing and redrawing everytime you open them. The QHD screen uses more Ram overall as it needs to store more screen data so with the 2gb G3 you're going to have more redraws. On average, an HD 1080 screen uses around 200-300mb Ram for video and a QHD uses 500-600mb of Ram for video.
400mb on average here. Sometimes 300. Doesnt seem to affect performance but would feel much better if we could get a up to date rom zipaligned which may free up more ram

yeah , i expirience sometimes the redrawing and it's a kick in the balls .
playing a game doesnt allow me to reply a message and go back to it , it'll relaunch the game
maybe this is the reason to make sure nothing usless and unimportant doesnt draining my ram .
did somebody do a complete "ram cleaning" ? by that i mean keeping only THE most important services for the system to work properly , and kill \erase\stomp the other marketing bull**** ?

With what G3 version? 2/16 or 3/32?
Wow, just checked and I have 1.4 gb in use and 1.4 gb free.
Any free RAM is wasted RAM.
That's how Android works, it maximises used RAM by keeping things in memory. Freeing RAM does not help in any way in making it faster or better, and uses more processing power (hence more battery). That's just silly. Your android phone is not a PC!

I have 480Mb without cleaning anything...
Hi and sorry for the random abrupt question without searching much.
I'm in Thailand for a few more hours and I've seen a grey import Taiwanese Zenfone 2 with the 1.8 ghz processor but with 4GB of RAM. Is this possible? I thought only the 2.3 ghz model came with 4GB of RAM.
The shop owner is adamant it has 4GB RAM and even opened the sealed box, let me install CPU-Z and that shows Z3560 CPU at 1.8 ghz but also total RAM of 3908 MB.
App manager also shows 1.8 GB of RAM used and 1.8 GB free.
Is this possible? I really don't care about the slower processor but the 4GB dual channel RAM is the thing I'm after.
Any replies ASAP need to buy it in a few hours before my flight back to Kenya where there won't be an Asus or 4GB phone in sight!

My advice is to buy it now, if the price is reasonable. Though not officially popular, it seems Asus has made quite a lot of ZE551ML Zenfone 2 models with varying specs, so it's not surprising they have a Taiwanese version of that particular model.
Just make sure that the firmware shows either TW or WW and you'll be set, since we only know only CN firmware exists on the 1.8/4GB model.

my hk version also has 1.8 ghz with 4gb of ram.
Chinese model
All Taiwanese ZF2 4GB have Z3580 (2.3GHz) CPU. There are no 1.8GHz/4GB versions in Taiwan. If you see such config then it's CN(Chinese) or whatever version, but not TW.
Here is table of *all* ZF2 versions for Taiwan market:

It must be a WW version. Full model is ZE551ML-6J199WW. Loving it so far.
Only annoyance is there is a notification for Battery Draining Apps - is there a way to exclude apps from this? It keeps showing Google app and Bluetooth Share as battery draining even when phone is asleep but this is quite normal when using Google Now and bluetooth streaming to a speaker.
I bought that phone here in Germany from a Chinese seller, and I'm fine with the Intel 560.
Also because of my battery consumption:good:
Looking forward for a big community
Greetings
Woah. Lots of variants coming out.. Wont be shocked to see 2.3Ghz w/ 2gb ram. Lol.
Hi,
I have been experiencing general lag and microlag issues and a slight battery drain (whatever app/ stock home screen launcher) with my Lg G3 D855, 32GB, 3GB RAM, OS: 5.0, Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-g7337331, software version V21a-EUR-XX, since 1 year and an half.
I bought the smarthpone on August 2015, I replaced the battery 5 months ago (Battery drain persisted).
Less than 20 apps installed (google and other stock apps excluded), 28% internal storage used, 90% external storage used.
Lag and microlag occurs always, "hard reset" never fixed the problem.
My desidered setup requires:
- no Lag and microlag (my first priority)
- no battery drain
- good network coverage and fast switching network tecnology (I live in Italy)
What ROM would you suggest?
It would be my first time with non-stock LG ROM.
Thank you a lot for your time.
Well, first things first. If you want a nearly lag-free experience you might need to do both hardware and software mods to your phone. Hardware mods include opening your phone and putting a (prefferably, to avoid the possibility of hardware problems) 1mm thick thermal pad on the ram chip and a 0.5mm pad on the ssd.
Secondly, AOSP roms are usually the smoothest. You can go for Marshmallow, in which case CM13 is something I'd try first. Pair it with a good kernel such as Gamma kernel (for extra smoothness), use v50 if latest one causes issues. I hear Nebula 2e is good too. It packs a lot of overclock so don't use that without the thermal mod if you want to use overclock. Nougat roms work great too. Lineage OS should serve you well but I have found that Xenon HD is among the smoothest, for Nougat I also recommend Gamma kernel, unless you want to use Pixel-G3 (which works great btw). It's really up to you as all roms have their pros and cons. Also, with any rom, don't fill up the internal memory above about 50% if you want max performance out of that. Wiping internal storage before install is also recommended so backup everything before doing any of this.
Don't expect to find your perfect rom at first flash
Im on fulmics 7.6 with exceed kernel, restricted 2cores to 1900mhz, undervolt -75mv.
First, get rid of facebook and messenger apps, use the lite versions. Thats all i did and the phone is smooth even with 2gigs of ram. Runs cool and i get over 6hrs screen with 50% or less brightness.
Also, put the apps on internal memory, sd te ds to be way slower.
The screenshots are from my current use, (tapatalk, chrome, fb) ambient temp is like 18c. Screen was mostly at 10% brightness.
