USB OTG on stock rom

Hello guys.
Sorry if this is a repost. I am planning to buy a USB OTG adapter from MHL and was wondering if this works with stock rom. I don't want to flash a custom kernel right now.
I am on 4.0.2, everything stock not even rooted. Please help me.

With 4.0.2 stock you can only use input USB devices like keyboard, mouse and gamepad.
For pen-drive or hard disk support you need:
- 4.0.2, custom kernel with OTG memory mass support
OR
- 4.0.3 with root
thanks buddy
Maybe I will wait till google releases 4.0.4 update and then buy it

Not true at all.
USB host works fine on 4.0.2 with the stock kernel. You just need to install Chainfire's StickMount app. I have a USB OTG cable and it works fine with a 32GB memory stick.

[Q] Htc One X - USB-OTG..

Hi All,
I've a htc one x (no root & no custom ROM). And I've still don't received JB update.
I want to use otg on my mobile, but not responding. The official JB update will be able to connect OTG to my one x?
or did i need to root my one x? or change to a custom rom? or both of them?
and if i need to root, can i stay to stock version?
and finally, if i need to do whatever of thoes thing, can you please give me all details and links of where to do that and how.
thanks. will give thanks.
You need the JB update.. you can wait for the official update or unlock your phone and install the custome/leaked update..

works great otg and work ntfs format with you use NTFMount.1.3.apk and you cand put mkv files 7gb:X
jb update
I just got the HTC one x, I need to know how to use the otg cable that I just got I'm not familiar withball the tech talk so if you could please explain in simple step by step direction that would be great. Thanks in advance.
Plug the little end of the OTG cable into the OneX, then plug your USB device into the big end of the OTG cable. Order of connection doesn't matter.
Hi,
Do you need an extaernal power source for this to work or can I just plug in a memory stick and thats it?

I have a USB OTG cable and i don't need an external power source. The phones battery powers everything. Just plug and play. I use Astro file manager to view contents in the USB. Any music or photos stored in it automatically show up in the music player and gallery.

[Q] USB not working cyanogenmod 11-20140420-nightly -v500

Rcvd a used Pad 8.3 and noticed that it charges but does not connect via usb to computer (W7, x64).
MPT is enabled and i turned on Dev Mode. I downloaded the drivers from the LG website and it still wont recongize the tablet.
This causes 2 problems, i cannot tranfer files and i cannot go back to stock which i wanted to do so i can at lease play with the original version.
I looked around cannot find any solutions to this issue. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jonathon
I would try a different USB cable. If you want stock go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719411

Ok, thanks, for the info and i will give it a go. I am just thinking that the original person that flashed it did not fix it properly.
Thanks,
jonathon
Did you ever get this working? I have the same problem on CM nightlys (now CM12), with USB only working for charging. I have tried different cables and settings, with no luck. I miss using my OTG drives.
Thanks

I am having this same problem, but only after I unlocked the boot loader and rooted my M8. I can get the phone to at least recognize one of my USB thumb drives, but it's a 32gb capacity and the phone sees it as less than 200mb. Any help would be most appreciated!
Try to connect first the thumb drive to the otg adapter, and only then connect it to the phone.
It should be mounted to storage/usb.
I use es explorer.

HTC Desire 816 USB OTG *NO LONGER* Working

I have the HTC Desire 816 from sprint, I believe it is a5chl, however I am currently using CM13 for a different model (a5dwg) because cm only supports CM12 for my device and I use my device on wifi only so I don't need data to work anyways. I've been using cm13 for the a5dwg on my phone for a while now and it's been working perfect, however I had an older version of TWRP, it was 2.8.0.4 ( I think) and I wanted to update it to 3.02 (or whatever the latest is). And when I went to update it, me being a silly goose, I accidentally flashed it to the boot partition and thought I bricked my device. I decided to wipe all storage partitions and reflash my rom and then use adb to update twrp. That seemed to work, and everything on my phone now works as it once did, EXCEPT it no longer reads any USB I plug into it. Before updating twrp and wiping, my phone would get a notification when plugging a usb in and I could then explore the files, however my phone no longer responds to usbs what so ever. Even in recovery it shows an option that says USB OTG but whenever I click on it, it does nothing. This is a really big annoyance because I used this option to easily flash nightlies and other files. Did wiping one of my partitions somehow break the usb otg? or was it updating the recovery that did so? Is there anyway I can fix this?
Sorry for the long and probably somewhat hard to understand post, but I've searched everywhere and cannot find anything about my problem. Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.
Have you developer option enabled and within it USB debugging?

Yes usb debugging is enabled
I've never been able to get that to work on my A5chl. Stock or otherwise.
