Hi i basically have a animated gif , but id like to turn it into a App for windows phone . is it hard to do? I have no experience but would be kind of cool to have your own app on the store.. cheers.
You can do this in several frameworks: Unity, Phonegap... This is ease
gif is easy, create an app with a web control. all other os are the same.

I was wondering if anyone would know how to port an old WM app to WP7.5 it is ShopAid, from Maximus Mobile. I don't know how to decompile it. Just Decompile From Telerik doesn't lok at .cab files. I don't know if the original dev is still on this site, but if theis could be ported to WP and metro-fied that would be great.
why don't you try one of the (free) regular WP7 applications from the marketplace? There's quite a bunch of them, look here.
I would still love this if this was possable, to inport a cab file into a project....
You'll need to find another app because decompiling a Windows Mobile app is just not going to happen. It would be easier just to write the app from scratch.

The main reason I liked this one is you can put a lot of info on an item. Such as what store, the aisle it was found in etc. This way I can organize my list by the store and aisle so I know exactly what I need from what aisle and i can get it done faster
Try to configure a general-purpose database app?
There are now a number of general-purpose database apps in the Marketplace now (named "Database", "My Database", or similar) that allow you to freely specify the structure of your database, i.e. the fields, their order, their types and lengths, etc. You could then "put a lot of info on an item", in fact as much as you configure.
Maybe you could use one of those database apps to build your very own dream shopping list "app" yourself?
Only thing I want from Windows Mobile besides TomTom navi (I like tomtom a lot better than garmin) is the simple UNO game. It was a quick, small and single player, just like when people play solatare.

This is a possibility. I will check it out. I just liked this app on my Omnia 2 and figured I would throw it out there.

..... They ported over opera mobile and opera mini, why not any other apps?
I'd keep an eye on the WML project by DFT though.

Yea, a project that they only said something months ago(look at the date of it, back in feb), and never showed anything else... I would love to see NEW news on this. I even posted looking for new info a while ago....

Not sure if they ported over Opera or Mini, they re-created them.
Hello, fellow Samsung Galaxy Y owners.
I've been doing a bit of research, and a lot of attempted tweaks, but so far have had no luck on my own.
In short, I want animated GIFs to play on my phone.
I've tried various ROMs, and none of them seem to have it, and nobody ever seems to bring it up as a feature request.
My googling has found, on GitHub, /CyanogenMod/android_external_webkit/commit/dcc592df10bcce76be37cf9fa49292e8b132f7d2
Suggesting that it -is- possible, if the rom has this option compiled into WebCore/platform/graphics/android/ImageSourceAndroid.cpp and Android.mk -- however, I have no experience with compiling this, otherwise I'd attempt this on my own. I also have no idea which files I'd need to replace.
How do i get GIF animations working? Do I replace a core APK? Do i need a new kernel? Do I need to figure out how to compile my own ROM to get this to work?
Thanks in advance.
There's an app in the market. Just search it.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yes, i've found an app to play gifs, but I have to download the gifs first.
For browsing things like gifdumps, or browsing reddit posts in baconreader, that is klutzy and HIGHLY annoying, and I'd much rather that the web based apps be able to natively animate the gifs.
Or, is there an app that will enable the native gif animation?
If so, what search terms should I be using, as my crawling thru the play market have turned up nothing over the past 3 months or so.
what do u want with gif's? for wallpapers? we have live wallpapers

I think you missed some of the link there, as it's invalid.
Allow me to clarify.
On other android devices, running Gingerbread, GIF animations run in the apps, by the native web rendering code. EG: BaconReader. Dolphin Browser. The standard browser. Apparently, this gets -disabled- on "Lower End" devices automagically during compilation
What I am asking for, has anyone tried, at all, to change those limits, so that -all applications- are able to display animated GIFs, WITHOUT having to resort to using another app to view them.
Also, to the person who suggested UC Browser, please do a little research to make sure that what you are suggesting is supported by the device. Google Play market tells me that it is incompatible with my device. And, I'm willing to wager that it does NOT support GIFs on my device, as gif animation is -disabled-, unless it uses it's own native rendering code instead of piggybacking off of the code supplied by Android.

Go!Chat for Facebook
I didnt really used to talk to that much people on fb that much via messaging on a regular basis but i recently started talking to someone and wanted to receive notifications so long story short
Facebook app apparently doesn't give messaging notifications
Facebook messenger worked great the day I downloaded it then stopped the next day I kept checking to see if it was getting killed but wasn't just didn't wanna give notifications (why Facebook whhhy!)
Friendcaster is bad at any notifications all together so this was just 1 of them if I wanted to get proper notifications I'd need the pro version
Friendcaster Chat could only message people who were online and by online I mean on a computer if there on a phone won't work
this was the only 1 I've tried that worked

i have been using zooper widget pro for a while now and i've been wondering if it's possible to create these widgets on a desktop for ease of configurations and so on? i searched for a thread on this but came up with people referring to the phone desktop not a desktop PC/mac/nix machine. possibly using android studio? i know that android studio is used to package your sets/widgets into apk format but it would help some of us who wish to develop more widgets for zooper if we could use the desktop for speed purposes.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I searched for the very same thing. I don't think you can because in virtual environment you don't have access to the sensors of a device. I could be entirely wrong! But I've tried creating a virtualBox android and the app will not install on it.
But .. I'm assuming that you're wishing to do this because it gets cumbersome to just sit on the phone and do it. Correct? If this is the cause there are three options for you. One is paid the other two are free. The paid one is VMLite VNC Server and you run that on your phone and connect to your phone using any VNC client. The first free one is Mobizen for the phone part and the PC part you have to get the Mobizen beta PC client. And the second free option is WiFi Keyboard + Screen Capture, just read the description in the Play Store. The second is a bit tricky to set up. I had to play around with it for 20 or so minutes and have had the best luck being on USB with it although it will work WiFi.
I hope this gets you further to where you want to be!
Having saw this post and tried both methods I couldn't deal with the lag so I used another method. I made a tutorial about it here if either if you are still interested.
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
I have very little android development experience. Still learning. My cousin is working on a website , dont think he wants me sharing to much info about about it , basically its a family tree site , will allow a user to make a tree and u can make additional user for viewing for friends and family. He wants me to make a app for it , my main question is , how do people usually make a app for their websites. Is it they just make a app with a browser that opens the site if so then whats the point of a app when i can just make a mobile version. He really doesnt want to do that . is it possible to make the app from scratch , i make the layout and link it to our database that fills in the data from which ever user logs in , what i mean is i just dont want to make an app that basically opens up the browser and show the mobile site or an app browser . can you please shed some light. Thank you , and sorry for the essay and any typos ,using my phone to type

You can definitely make an app that uses the same database, but if you have very little Android development experience perhaps you should start with a smaller and simpler project? It's a lot to learn.
Web app or Native app both fine
If your product doesn't use too many feature on the phone, the Web app could be good since maybe you can share resources with the desktop Web version. This may also accelerate the development cycle. However, if your are going to use some native phone feature, then, the Native app would be your choice...
