Facebook and Messenger stopped working after update - only me? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an HTC One M8 on Straighttalk (AT&T) and after this week updates Facebook and Messenger stopped working. I wonder if it's just me. weird that both apps are developed by FB.
I had my phone rooted for a while then got back to stock to get the OTA update to Marshmallow. AndroidPay still not working because of that. I wonder if the issue with FB and Messenger could be cause by the same anomaly.
many thanks!!

Yep
I'm running GPE H9 and I can confirm on MM for me Messenger works fine only the main FB is the problem what I do is I long press the back key and it automatically kills the app

You aren't the only one. If you look at the reviews for both apps in the playstore, you'll see that it's loaded with reviews with comments the same as yours. Recent update broke something evidently. At least for some people. From the reviews, it would appear a lot of people. I can't tell you myself. I don't do the auto updates thing. I read all the bad reviews and that was enough for me to stay away from it for now. My guess is there will be a fix coming.
Until then, the only thing I can suggest is to uninstall and reinstall both apps if you haven't done so already. Can't hurt to try.

[Q] Sync problems after rooting

hey everyone, i'm new to this whole rooting thing, and i havent seen any threads regarding problems yet, so i thought it might be useful to start one.
i dont know if i'm the only one experiencing this, but ever since i've rooted (stock tmobile rom, didnt touch the eng build or slidemeroot rom), i've experienced a major problem. i wiped my phone to factory settings prior to rooting to try to get it to root properly, and ever since rooting, i'm unable to sync my contacts saved on the tmobile website to my phone. syncing the weather, gmail, yahoo mail, and facebook all work perfectly, but sycning my tmobile account just isnt working.
it might be a server problem with tmobile, but is anyone else experiencing this? or maybe other problems?
normally i'd post this kind of problem somewhere like the tmobile forums, but i looked through there and nobody else has posted about any similar problem.
it's a tmobile issue.
My phone was doing this prior to rooting.
T-Mo fails at sync... I'd use Google to store contacts. Keep it in the cloud and those with the know how = Google.
lol
Its not fair to blame the mob... especially since YOU rooted your phone... they cant guarantee itll work if you change settings and the phone in general... come on now... I bet if you un-root and revert to stock itll work fine...
Lots of other people are having the sync issue that arent rooted.
There are threads on the official tmobile board.
And this has been going on with my phone since monday, prior to root.
In fact, if you log into your mytmobile account and go to the contacts page, you can see it hanging there trying to sync, it will eventually timeout and tell you its server error.

done and done. didnt realize this was a recurring problem with tmobile.
just to clear things up, i wasnt blaming anyone, i just thought it was strange that i was syncing fine until i rooted. i spoke too soon.
That always happens to me after every reboot. I have to check and uncheck tmo contacts or sync will continue forever. The best way is use gmail contacts and remove all myfavs and it will stop syncing forever. Yeah, all and all tmobile contacts suck. Why even use them? Google works better anyways. And you can always bkup to sim.

No Facebook Notifications running Jedi X6 Rom

Is anyone else having this issue? For some reason, I am not getting my usual Facebook notifications. I made sure that notifications is checked in the Facebook settings of the app. I also unistalled and reinstalled the Facebook app. I tried to log on to Facebook via my browser. I wipe and cleared the date/cache. Not sure what else I can do. If anyone else is experiencing this and/or has a fix, please let me know.
I have the same problem, but with Twitter
Same problem here.
Yeah I said it!
I know it sounds silly, but I am the kind of person that just needs my Facebook notifications. I ended up changing out Jedi for another Rom and will give Jedi another flash later on.
Facebook notifications notoriously suck on all ROMs...it's not the rom, it's Facebook. If you Google this, you will see that notifications are hit and miss at best.

This is absolutely, 100% true. It is a known problem with Facebook Android in general. Try Friendcaster instead. Notifications are at least somewhat more reliable with this app.
I have noticed that sometimes it doesn't work and others times it does work, FB in general though needs to make the android version a lot better. I am still running Jedi everything else seems to work ok.

What annoys me with that rom is the red box that goes around certain notifications. Soooooo annoying, so I went to clean

I always have a problem in getting notifications from FB. I also heard that FB is notorious on the notification with Android. I believe it's not just a Rom or a Note. I really hope FB release a new native app ASAP with much better notification.
I am having the same issue, it seems to fix its self and break again.
The big issue I am having is data on a phone call, I can't access any data when a call is active. I have reflashed the modem, done a full restore to stock and reinstalled the latest update for Jedi. I'm not sure what else to do other than try another phone.
Update, I tried everything to fix my data problem, I returned my phone to stock and triangle away'd it and took it back to the store where they gave me a new phone that ended up with the same data issue. I ended up asking them to change the sim card because I couldn't believe two phones had the same problem, and this seems to have fixed it. Yep a bad brand new sim card, its funny how the smallest thing can drive you crazy.
There's a new facebook update today. Maybe it'll fix your guy's issues? I've left Facebook so I can't really give my impressions to what you guys are getting.

Hangouts not updating after last hangouts update

Hey guys!
Apologies if there is something about this somewhere, but when I searched I only found very old threads and likely not relevant now.
Since the last hangouts update, I get notifications no problem, but if I go into hangouts on my watch, the chats are outdated. Randomly it will update, but then go days again without updating the chats. Even if I click on a chat, its not got newer messages.
Anyone else see this behavior?
Thanks in advance for any input!
Darth
Just checked my Huawei watch Hangouts SMS and they are updated & synched. I'm on the latest MM and Wear (with permission to run in background).

Hmm, mine is stuck on conversations from Tuesday at the moment. I get notifications still, and can even reply. But the conversations on the watch when I go into hangouts are frozen on Tuesday.
Did many reboots on each since Tuesday. I think I'm going to try clearing cache and data for hangouts, and then uninstall. And reinstall hangouts.
Thanks for confirming yours is good though. :good:
I'll keep trying things.
Not sure, if you havent then do a resync inside of Wear...

Yup, no love their either. Lol
Thought for sure it would be a common issue. But nope.
I may just reset. Nothing on my watch really to worry about setting up again.

MMS Messages Usually But Not Always Going Through On T-Mobile

I have an unlocked HTC 10 that I use on T-Mobile's network here in the U.S. The phone works great, but I notice my 10 has the same issue that the LG V20 and sometimes Sony Xperia phones have...............every like 12-15th MMS (group and/or photo) message I send out to a bunch of ppl will show that it's loading but never go through until I close my texting app (Textra) out, activate it again, and then resend it (no need to reboot fortunately).
My cousin who has the LG V20 also has this issue, and he said other apps like stock and Google Messenger still have the same problem come up too.
Is ANYONE else having this issue? If so, any resolutions?! Don't understand why it's happening cuz the majority of the time it's fine.
Thanks!

Saw my wife having this same issue tonight on her Moto x with Google messenger. Switched to stock messages app and the problem stopped.

I've tried using Stock before on other phones and it usually doesn't help.
Textra (my texting app) sent an update a few days ago with bug fixes included. Since then it hasn't happened. If it does though, I'll try Stock perhaps.
Thanks!

Update: It happened again, so I switched to stock. Was fine for about a week or two, but it JUST happened again. So I'm gonna switch back to Textra. Oh well lol.............

Ads now on Calendar? SOLVED

Not sure how long this has been going on, but this AM all of sudden got an ad about wining a new iphone x schedule on my Calendar. Calendar just updated last night. Uninstalling and rebooting back with older version didn't get rid of it. Adblocker didn't remove it either.
Running August update with Sultan's kernel and rooted.
This is the reason I keep Root. Hate to think I have to go backwards to a different release of Android just to avoid this kinda crap.
Anyone know a fix yet? Can't work on it my self at the moment am at work, but by Saturday rolling backwards if it can't be fixed yet.
Thanks, hopefully I am not the only one who is really irritated with this.
My wife started getting these on her 3 XL. She is not rooted so you don't need to worry about that. She doesn't use the actual Google calendar app but uses business calendar instead. When she complained they told her to follow the instructions on this link.
Hope that helps
It's nothing to do with the Pixel, specifically, but rather people taking advantage of a Google Calendar feature.

@KingMike67 @Phantom_DJ, Thank you so much guys, just got home and checked the setting based off the link and that was it. Just caught me off guard this AM at a bad time and the last thing I want to deal with is being pestered about ads and or someone able to mess with the one thing in life I have control over (my phone LMAO) everything else is screwed with by someone, but my dog, wife, and phone are the things I don't take well when someone screws with.
Thank you again guys!
