Hi guys,
i seemed to have bricked my phone because all i can do is boot into bootloader, download mode, recovery mode. it has stock recovery and relocked bootloader.
i want it boot into android anyway possible stock or not. I can provide anydetails required about my phone. I have tried several RUUs and 0PJAIMG.zip files but nothing seems to be working.
For RUUs i get the error "Please get the correct Rom Update Utility and try again" and for 0PJAIMG.zip files my phone says "SD CARD NOT MOUNTED" in download mode. Please help me revive my phone and sorry for a long.
Thanks in Advance.
Edit: Even if anyone can link me to a x.xx.425.xx ruu, that would be great.

I assume your phone is S-ON. You can't downgrade or flash RUUs for different SKUs than 425.
The problem: There are only RUUs for firmware 1.34.425.7 and 1.34.425.8. So unless you don't have S-OFF you can't use them.

Did you try re-unlocking via HTCdev? The M9 has some security checks which prevent the phone from booting if the bootloader is locked/relocked and the phone is not completely stock. If that doesn't help you may need to look for someone with a java card.
For answering your second question I'm qoting myself from another thread:

But you need to pay if you want to download files from that site. Since I know someone who has an account I may be able to get one of the RUUs for you. (Can't guarantee anything.)

As far as I know the 1.34.425.7 RUU is getting uploaded on AFH at the moment. But as said before you won't be able to use it without S-OFF.

I can't re-unlock my phone i tried like 3 times already.
That would be great if you could upload the file and link it here...
There you go (thanks to Handy-FAQ.de). But as said before it's useless if you don't have S-OFF.
Edit: I guess the option OEM Unlock (located in developer options) hasn't been activated before you relocked the bootloader, am I right? That's why you can't re-unlock. But you could still look for someone who owns a java card to get S-OFF, use the RUU service on Llabtoofer's website or hope that someone creates and uploads a TWRP backup that contains an untouched system image, the boot image and the stock recovery of your currently installed firmware.

remove the imei nubmer first of all. Flash European RUU and youll be fine. Check out flippys thread in the general section for more info and instuctions
Thank you, I just removed it. And about RUU I could not find in flappy's post, If you give a simpler source for finding European RUU it would be so great.

Thanks for your helps.
New problem appeared!!!
I'm not able to unlock bootloader and install twrp to install stock rom backups https : //www .androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347802868. I figured that in order to unlock bootloader there is a tick in developer options but my phone won't boot up to make that happen.
I think the only way I can bring device back to life is find a 2.10.401.1 or above singed exe ruu, but there is no such a thing on Internet.
Pm flippy for help. He's a nice guy.

look under the RUU tile. Youll find the correct ruu that you need - 2.10.410.1. No twrp needed just flash it in download mode
Tnx a lot, I didn't even notice the tabs above that page. Everything is fine right now. :good::good::good:
I went thru a few threads but couldn't find any direct tutorial to flash my m9. I downloaded ota, but i cant s-off my unit(sunshine doesn't work), thus i cant flash it. maybe its running new OS?
I wanted to flash any rom to my m9, either stock or wwe or cyanogenmod, but all seems to require s-off.
my play store is missing & even though i did a master reset(tried from normal menu n also bootloader mode), playstore just wont appear.
here are my details :
Non-rooted
S-ON

I went thru about 5 threads but cant find a direct solution, I hope I'm not asking something that is widely posted here, seems i just can't S-off. Any helps to flash roms in my situation?
Anyone care to help out?
There is no other publicly available RUU for your SKU than a 1.32.708.15 one which you can't use due to downgrades not being possible without S-OFF.

dear flippy, can i install custom rom while its S-ON? I know how 2 do it on prev HTCs(unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash rom, flash boot.img), but no sure if m9 is applicable..
Yes, you can. However you need to re-flash the stock boot.img of your phone afterwards or you'll loose your mobile reception (this only applies to sense-based roms). If you want to use a non-sense-based rom like cm you need to flash thicklizard's mono kernel instead of the stock boot image.

need your help guys
i really dont know how the phone got to the position where it says that the software modified, as far as i know, no one tried to flash any 3rd party roms.
current status:
software: modified
Locked
S-on
whats available:
bootloader, recovery, download modes are available, phone is recognized via fastboot, but not much info there
fastboot getvar all

what's impossible:
*can't unlock officially - as i don't have working system to enable oem unlock at dev options
*can't flash twrp backup as i cant flash different recovery - s-on
*can't flash any ota update with working system.img - s-on
*can't flash RUU zip as there isn't one with my current version and can't downgrade - s-on
any suggestions whats available for me to fix it?
How did it end up in that state?.

im not sure, the device belong to a friend, its not mine, im just trying to help out
It looks like it got "killed" by trying to set back "unlocked" and "S-OFF" to "locked" and "S-ON". Your only hope is llabtoofer's RUU service because as you already found out there is no publicly available RUU for that phone. Direct links can be found in my sticky thread in the general section or in my google sheet.

Have same problem too. Any help would be much appreciated.
same problem here
For some reason after returned from a trip that i had my phone turned off , my phone won't boot normally.
It boots to a menu where my only options are:
REBOOT
REBOOT TO BOOTLOADER
BOOT TO DOWNLOAD MODE
BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE
POWER DOWN
On top it says :
Software status modified
Locked
S-ON
I haven't flashed anything before i get this error.
I tried to see what i can do now but it seems allow unlock bootloader is not checked and since i can't boot to ROM there is no way to flash anything.
I can boot to download mode only and reboot to bootloader. boot to recovery fails and says this build is for development purposes only.
thats my phone info

all:
I tried to flash 3.35.401.12 RUU renaming it to 0PJAIMG from SD card and it gets in a loop with HTC logo. going off and on doing nothing.
Every other RUU i tried to flash fails with RUU security warning because S-ON and locked i guess.
So is there a way to fix this? Any RUU that can be flashed ? Any way to flash as recovery image being S-ON and Locked?
Thank you anyway.
@thrylosss: For your own safety you should remove your IMEI. It can be used for scam by others.
Did you boot to Download Mode for flashing the RUU? If the RUU didn't reboot to Download Mode by it's own during the flash what happened after you manually rebooted to that mode?
There is no newer, publicly available RUU you could use. The only alternative to the RUU you already tried is Llabtoofer's RUU service. There is a direct link in the ReadMe thread.
I reboot to download mode and pressed vol up to start flashing. Then i got updating UI sign and then mobile restarted and got into fast loops showing HTC logo. i had to press all 3 button (POWER + VOL buttons ) to get back to the first menu.
Whats the link to the Llabtoofer's RUU?
if its this you mean
SKU: 401 - CID: HTC__001, HTC__J15, HTC__102, HTC__Y13, HTC__A07, HTC__032, HTC__016, HTC__M27, HTC__002 or HTC__031

1.32.401.15
1.40.401.8
2.10.401.1
3.35.401.12
i am trying them all right now.
But is there a 3.35.401.32 RUU?
When the device started to "fast loop", how long did you let it do that for?.
I remember mine taking an update and it did that for a while. I eventually took over an hour to update.
Beamed in by telepathy.
I let it for a while but it was obvious was doing the same thing. restarting after 2-3 seconds.
I contacted with Llabtoofer's RUU service and told me it can't be fixed without using extra hardware specialized in unlocking and removing security.
Thank you anyway.

Did you find a solution yet? I have the same situation for a week now. My phone is locked, s-on and on a bootloader loop even though I haven't done any flashing, rooting etc. I just can't reinstall 3.35.401.32 because my phone is s-on. Is there a solution for that?
Could anyone help please?

As i said there is nothing you can do with just a PC and a software. You need a different equipment. You have to take it to a service center.

There is plenty that can be done with PC and software - please don't offer blanket advice like this without a clear explanation applicable to the specific situation of the thread. Other users having similar difficulties may come across this conversation and give up without realizing that they have many options.
[EDIT]@thrylosss - It sounds like in your case, your phone is not serviceable without specialized equipment, as indicated by Llabtoofer's RUU service. This isn't necessarily the case with all folks having similar issues.[/EDIT]
Hey sorry for my late response. But there is nothing can be done since it is S-ON , is LOCKED and allow unlock bootloader is not checked . So when these 3 conditions meet there is nothing you can do without extra equipment.
So
1) LOCKED
2) S-ON
3)Allow unlock bootloader : NOT checked.
And of course can not boot to recovery mode.
More clear now?
Hi, seems this is a really common issue. Has anyone managed to successfully get the phone working from this state? If so what did you have to do to get it back?
Htc m9 s-off locked update android 7
My phone is htc m9 s off locked t mobile usa
While i update to android 7 from phone i got message mobile is modified
Previous software is marshmallow
If i tried htc official software manually wil it be okay? Or can damage my previous software?
I know its late, but ive come across a file with flashtool and (unfortunately) the wrong firmware. Mine is a verizon which HTC says cannot be flashed, and the file i found is for Sprint firmware. However, I was able to get the phone to react and do believe that if i had the correct firmware it would flash. here is the link: https://htcstockrom.com/htc-one-m9
Hi, I am new on this forum.
I have a problem with my M9. About a year ago, I installed TWRP recovery and rooted android 6.0. Since then I hadn't made any changes to my phone. Once android nougat came out, i couldn't update it with ota update so i decided to return to stock recovery. I flashed the recovery and everything worked fine. I decided to update it with a RUU as the safest bet, and i read somewhere that you need to relock the bootloader. I relocked it and everything seemed fine, it was relocked in bootloader mode but now I can't boot to recovery mode and cannot boot the phone. I can access download mode and bootloader mode. I also can't update it with the ruu because I get signature error 132. I also can't unlock the bootloader, everything goes fine and at the end it still says "relocked". My cid is htc_032 european. What should I do now?

You shouldn't have relocked it... As far as I know, relocking the m9 is not required... Try searching for solutions or wait for someone with more knowledge regarding your situation...

Thanks for the tip about IMEI.
I tried the developer ruu version from the HTC website but i saw that it isn't compatible. I can't find a ruu for my phone that is compatible. I only found zips, but i have no clue how to use them. I know how to flash them, but my bootloader won't unlock. Do you have any idea how to proceed?
