Z5 Premium Dual SIM question - Xperia Z5 Premium Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
For those who have it, is it possible on the dual sim version that when one SIM is on LTE voice/data, can SIM 2 have voice on 3G? I have 2 SIMs with the same company but the company doesn't have a 2G network only 3G/4G LTE.

yes in the settings you can assign each sim to do any function exclusively.
SO to confirm, SIM 1 can be on 4G and SIM 2 can be on 3G? Can you take a screen shot of the menu? Thanks

The phone will use whatever the carrier gives you access to. If for whatever reason SIM 1 gets 4G and SIM 2 only gets 3G, then that's what the phone will get. The sim card looks to your phone carrier and signal availability to determine what service is provided to the phone.
If you also want to limit it to only go as high as 3G, I believe there is also an option for that. I have a Dual SIM Z5 with only one SIM atm. So pictures from my phone are going to be useless for you. But the pathway is as follows:
Settings\Dual Sim settings\Sim card for data Traffic.
hope this helps
I have a Note 5 Dual sim and when SIM 1 is 4G, the second one only has 2G as an option. You wouldn't happen to have another SIM you can throw in and see if sim 1 can be 4g and sim 2 can go to 3g? Preferably the second sim would be either Bell or Telus since they have no 2G network. I really appreciate it. Don't want to buy another 900$ phone to find out that it won't work.
Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have another one. The Z5 uses a micro sim and I don't know many people with one. You're likely able to call up Sony's sales line and have them ask a tech who does know for sure though. If you do, please report back with what you find so this might benefit another person in your same situation!
Good luck!
It won't work, I just looked up the user manual:
Selecting mobile networks
Your device supports the use of two different networks at the same time. You can
select from the following network mode combinations when two SIM cards are
inserted in your device:
• One LTE network and one GSM network
• One WCDMA network and one GSM network
• Two GSM networks
For each SIM card, you can set your device to switch automatically between mobile
networks depending on which mobile networks are available where you are. You can
also manually set your device to use a particular mobile network mode for each SIM
card, for example, WCDMA or GSM.
Different status icons are displayed in the status bar depending on the type or mode
of network that you are connected to. Refer to Status icon on page 35 to see what
the different status icons look like.
Thanks for your help. I'm out of luck...

And that is exactly the case.
One sim is 4G/3G and the other only 2G.
If in the mobile network settings you try to switch SIM 2 from GSM to 3G or 4G you get a notification that SIM 1 will switch to GSM and that SIM 2 will be data traffic SIM card.
I have Z5 Premium Dual and if I set SIM 1 as 4G or WCDMA (3G), SIM 2 will be 2G only. If I set SIM 2 to be 4G or WCDMA, SIM 1 will be 2G only.
You can not set to WCDMA for both or 4G for both slots. But you can set to 2G for both slot, only it's useless to you.
The combination for SIM 1 and SIM 2 is:
- 4G preferred and 2G only
- WCDMA preferred and 2G only
- WCDMA only and 2G only
- 2G only and 2G only
- 2G only and WCDMA only
- 2G only and WCDMA prefered
- 2G only and 4G prefered
So if your carrier do noth have 2G, it's better you use as single SIM or find another dual SIM phone that support 3G on both slots.
I add a last detail to this useful discussion:
You can set mobile data both in the 4G SIM or in the 2G SIM, doesn't matter. You can use voice calls on 4G SIM 1 and keep 2G SIM 2 for data and voice.
I have a dual SIM Z5 premium:
The worst bit is not the fact that only one SIM can have 4G at a time, which seems not to be a problem to most people. The real issue is not even the fact that I have 2 4G Sims and changing from one to another takes many seconds, in which it goes into no signal. The real issue is that when you are at a call in the none-internet assigned SIM, the other internet SIM stops working and you lose your internet connection. The only way to maintain your internet connection is in the only case that the phone call is been made by the same SIM that is currently giving the internet. And no, you cannot change in the middle of a call, since changing disables both Sims for to many seconds and the call would be hanged.
Please if any other user has found a way around this, beside connecting to Wi-Fi, please tell

Yes it is possible that you can use LTE and 3G sim in your Sony Z5. Even it is also possible that you can use LTE sim in both sim ports in all Sony Z series phones. But there is one condition that you have to run data access only from one sim. You will be not able to run data service on both sim cards. You can do this by going to settings option and set your one sim card for call/messages and another for data service only. Check Sony Xperia Z5 Manual- guideusermanual.com/product-name-xperia-z5-manual&po=570042&lang=English for details.

Does the I9192 supports 3g sims on both slots?
I want to buy the I9192 and i wanted to know if it supports 2 sims that work only on 3g networks? Or the second sim slot is only 2g? Thanks!
Both the sim slots can be used for 3g reception.. but only one sim can be 3g at one tym.. i.e either sim 1 or sim 2 can be 3g at any given time...
by 3g you mean that i can use data only from 1 sim? I have 2 sims from a networks that uses HSDPA 850 / 2100 - would both of the sims will work at the same time? (I don't need data on both of them, only on 1 sim, but i need reception for calls & sms on both sims) Will it work? Thanks!
Yes. Only one sim will be used for the data connection.

BTW, in the Manual or user guide for this phone this feature is not clearly explained.

You have to mannually select which sim will use mobile data on settings > my device > sim manager > data service network. check my post on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2490419 for the solution.
Well both work in 3G but only the slot 1 works on HSDPA/HSDPA+ the second slot is locked into GPRS mode and I have experienced this behaviour on 4 rom before knox samsung proctection avoid me to flash my phone as I want.
dual sim standby - both 3g/4g ?
So I've read in a few reviews it's a dual sim standby (both sims are in standby for a phone call) and both of them are capable of 3g/4g at the same time? anyone know? reason I ask is in my country the 2g bands are closed so can't use any other dual sim phone (all of them force second sim to be on 2g)
I don't think both of them are capable of 4G for the simple reason 2 SIM from 2 different network providers = 2 IP address, and you need to know it's complex to make usable 2 IP address in the same time (MPTCP). Then like on the OnePlus 2, you can only use one SIM for data and the other for phone calls/SMS/MMS in the same time.
The only phone that I am aware that is able to do 4g on one sim and 3g on the other is the mi5. I am also keen to know if we can do the same on the one plus 3. I live in Singapore and 2g will be deactivated soon. Sent from my X9009 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm not expecting the phone to use data on both. i'm more concerend about just being on standby for phone/msg on 3g (or 4 if possible). Like using your phone blocking data on the second sim. I don't see why it's so technologically hard. 2g is soon to be gone evrywhere
I have tested Mi5Pro and it have first sim 2G/3G/4G and the second sim 2G/3G simultaneously (dual sim stand-by). I have read in a review than OP3 also. I will receive mine next monday, i will test ...
thanks a lot. anyone else can confirm ?
I can confirm .. i have received my op3 yesteday and it is 2G/3G/4G on sim1 and 2G/3G on sim2 simultaneously. Sim2 is only for calls and messages. Like OP2 and other phones, it is possible to swap sims and in this case, sim2 is 2G/3G/4G with data and sim1 only 2G/3G for calls and messages. I confirm also that op3 is dual sim stand-by and not dual sim active.

Yes but when call is made on SIM2, data on SIM1 is interrupted (dual stand-by)

Click to collapse Yes, it is designed like this, like all dual sim except Asus ZenFone 2, Galaxy S4 Duo and few other models. LTE networks has not "phone circuits" and call are made in 3G (phone connect in HSPA during call). This is for all LTE phones. LTE calls are possible with VoLTE protocol witch is IP voice communications and not voice circuit. For using VoLTE, the phone need compatible with this protocol AND operators needs to activate this functionality.

Click to collapse It is dual sim standby and both the sims are in standby for a phone call. Both of them are capable of 4G/3G/2G but NOT at the same time. 4G can be used only in one sim slot at a time. It can be set by going to settings > SIM cards> Preferred SIM for Cellular data. Whichever SIM you choose here will have 4G option. It can be changed from settings>Cellular networks > your SIM card > Preferred network type. (4G or 3G or 2G). The other SIM can have either 3G or 2G but there is no option to choose it. The only way is to click on 'Network operators' option from Cellular networks menu and choose a 2G or 3G service. Hope it helps.
I get 4g on each sim but you have to pick one for data but both are 4g
So if I have 2 sims, one for calls with 6gb 4g and one for data with 15gb 4g, when I finish the 6gb on 1st sim I can switch the data to the other sim via software? Thanks
Your right you can

Click to collapse This is true, but you can also add to the list of "Dual Active" phones all Huawei premium phones: Mate 7, Mate 8, Honor 6, and probably Honor 7 and 8. They all have DUAL ACTIVE SIM CARDS, which means that you can have a call on SIM-1 and get a waiting call on SIM-2, then you can answer the call and swap between the two active calls!! I even tried calling SIM-1 from SIM-2 and it was actually ringing!! Also more importantly, when using data on SIM-1, you can make or receive a call on SIM-2 without interrupting data. That's pretty amazing, but with a major drawback (at least for me, it is): 3G/4G service is only accessible on SIM-1 slot!! The SIM card in slot-2 will always be 2G and would never ever access 3G/4G networks This is bad because I travel a lot, and I always need to be able to switch data from SIM-1 to SIM-2 and vice versa. The only option I have is to physically swap SIM cards between slots, which actually ruins the whole concept of having DUAL SIM mobile My guess is that they are actually using two separate modems, each one is dedicated to one of the two SIM slots, and only one of them supports 3G/4G connectivity.
TheLoverMan said: Your right you can Click to expand... Click to collapse so, you are saying that both sims are 3G/4G capable, but can be used for data one at a time, and can be switched anytime via settings ?
I have a questión, so if a dual sim phone have 3g/4g capabilities on both sims, is there a way to make like a failover setup such as if sim1 looses data the phone switches to sim2 data automatically and viceversa?
I have problem in my one plus 3 network issues both SIM are not working properly both SIM search for network frequently when I switched data no network can anyone give solution I tried all rebooting, factory reset, searching network manually.
Dual SIM function
Hi, I'm curious to know how dual SIM works in this phone. If I have two 4g network sims, will the other get downgraded to 2g or 3g? For example, the OnePlus Two pushes my call/text sim to 2g while my data sim is on 4g/LTE.
Both SIM will run in 4G but only one will receive data. (You could specific which one SIM 1 or SIM 2 to receive data without reboot the phone.) As long as the one receiving data is on 4G, the other SIM is on 4G or not is not so relevant, I believe... (Not sure if both can work on VoLTE at the same time... No VoLTE here...)
Dual-Sim Internet Issue
I am from India and have two sim cards on my device. Sim 1 - Jio which only works on the 4g spectrum and calls are over VoLTE. Sim 2 - Vodafone which can work on 2g/3g/4g. Calls are not over VoLTE. I have data packs on both the numbers. In the settings when I switch my data subscription to Sim 2 i.e. Vodafone, the phone immediately enables 4g on Sim 2 thereby disabling Sim 1 because the Sim 1 only works on 4g. I would have had no problem if the phone could just let me use my Vodafone Data on 3g but no, it forces the it to use it on 4g and therefore if I want to use data on my Sim 2 I can no longer user Sim 1. Is there a work-around for this issue?
Dual SIM Function - Honor 8 Pro
I hope someone can help to answer the following query as I can't seem to get any information / confirmation on it's dual SIM functionality. As some of you may now, some countries has discontinue in offering 2G connectivity. On the Honor 8 Pro dual SIM, does it function as ; A) if SIM1 is selected as default data line on 4g/3g - can SIM2 run simultaneously on 3g (non-data)? Or, B) if SIM1 is selected as default data line on 4g/3g - will SIM2 run simultaneously on 2g only (non-data)? Noted they are dual stand-by. My question it's on the band connectivity for the none default data line. Hope to get some guidance

A) is true! But B) doesn't allow you to be based only on 2g, it switches between 3g 2g Also if you select mobile data default sim as 2, then it will be switched to 4g network and if your sim 1 is 4g only, it will be withering around with no network
