Hello,
I have a microphone issue. Many people don't ear me much when i do phone calls.
I have the problem with the built in mic and the external mic. I tried 2 different external mic and the built in mic alone.
The microphone level is too low. I did a test with a voice record app on the unit. The result is that i can ear myself but the sound is very very low.
So how i can do to boost the microphone level ?
Thank you for the help and sorry for my english

The answer to this question is in this forum, please use search and you'll find the solution to your problem.
Here's one, but you will find more when you search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3246277
As you can see, the real solution is a physical change, and one you may not be equipped to do.
I am unaware of a setting you can change to at least have the microphone a bit louder.

Hello,
I do not use the phone feature very often, but recently I had to take some calls while driving and could hardly understand what the other person is saying, because the speaker phone volume is really low.
Now, of course I set the volume to max and checked every setting I could find related to phone calls. I even went into the service menu and did the speaker tests. There I realized that the speaker phone is using a different speaker as the one that is used to play back music or other sounds. The same sound sample is used in the tests and it is much softer in the speaker phone test compared to the mono or stereo speaker tests.
Is there any hack, setting or configuration file change I can do to use the mono or stereo speaker for the speaker phone feature?
Please help, this is the only gripe with this fine phone I have.
Same problem here.
Solutions, anyone?

what do you mean by connection?
when i make a call
Please make sure its not a hardware / physical problem... such as dust inside the mic hole, or a faulty mic.
I could give a modded acoustic profile to increase mic volume... BUT, I would search Sony support in first place. And use a modded acoustic in last place.. since a low volume mic is not normal... I never had any complain about volume,
But quality is another story, and it depend mostly on Service Provide quality
Hello z1c owners.
Have you guys experienced low mic volume problem during call? The other end of call keep complain about my voice not clear. After turn off noises suppression, things got better, but still sounds like the mic is coverd with something, not crystal clear. I used skvalex call recorder recorded calls from my z1c and a moto x for comparison. Moto X is loud and clear, but z1c is lower and muffled.
Is that normal or I bought defected phone? Is there any solutions for this problem.

Have exactly the same problem only when I use the speakerphone for calls. I am very interested in possible solutions.
I have another observation to report. I use smart voice recorder from the playstore to record conversations. There is a setting inside this app which lets you choose between microphone's auto gain control and manual gain control (calibrate). Auto gain gives me awful very low volume audio. On the other hand when I calibrate the mic the volume is in the perfect level.

I had the same problem on mine, the volume was so low that the other people could't hear what I said at all. Then the little grid covering the mic and the speaker detached and now the problem is gone (waterproofing is gone too I guess), the holes on the grid are tiny and they got obstructed by dirt.
Hello,
recently I changed my micro usb board, because the old one burned. Its all ok with the phone, everything works perfect, except the microphone and some apps sound. For exemple when I try to record my voice or to record a video, the ambient sound is louder than my voice. The voice appears too low, very low.
I don't think it's hardware problem because there is another problem. When I select my keyboard (swiftkey or stock keyboard) to make sound, it comes the same ambient sound from the speaker, the same noise the make when I record something.
It's very sad problem, because I can't make call, nobody listen to me. I can only make call with the headset.
Many thanks
Sounds bad, you have to repair it again!

I'm starting to think that is a audio drive problem. Because of some system sound problems.
Hello everyone, a while ago I dropped my phone and now the main mic is broken (the one near the charging port). So I can't record audios or make calls without using a headphone with a mic. BUT WHEN I RECORD VIDEOS THERE IS SOUND. I think that's because of the noise cancelation mic(the one on the upper right side of phone) For some reason it's activated during the video records and captures the sound.
How can I force my phone to use secondary microphone all the time? So that I can make calls and record sounds without changing the primary microphone.
well, I'm not a programmer but I have been trying to edit audio_policy. conf and audio_policy_configuration.xml files.
Apparently there are 2 input sources for microphones. built-in mic and built-in back mic. I have tried deleting these or somehow ' disabling' them. but nothing happened. I can still capture sounds while recording videos but the very same damn microphone wouldn't work while recording voices.
How hard is it to simply disable the main mic and use the noice cancelation mic as the main one? I'm sure you programmers can figure it out better than me ??
I'm facing the same issue, have you found any hack for that ?
Any luck bicho2015? My main microphone died on my Pixel 4 and I would like to reroute to the other 2 built-in mics.
