Yureka Plus or Micromax Canvas 5 - YU Yureka General

Hi all,
I'm in the market for a new phone and was weighing the pros and cons between the Yureka Plus and Micromax Canvas 5.
The Micromax is slightly more expensive but has more RAM (3GB), a bigger battery (3000mAh), a smaller but sharper screen (5.2"), a LED flash for the front camera, nearly stock Android Lollipop, and possibly better gaming performance (Mali T720 GPU)
Also the Micromax camera appears to do better in reviews compared to the Yureka Plus.
In the Yureka's favor the massive development work in these forums seems to be eliminating and mitigating many of the shortcomings including battery life.
To me a fast action and decent camera is important. GPS reception is also important but no information is available on this. Moderate gaming is nice to have (MMR racing).
Between the two if you were buying now which one would you go for and why? Would the lack of custom ROM development (so far) be a deal breaker?

If you're proficient in flashing ROMs, kernels and whatnot, and understand the risks involved with it, go with the Yureka Plus. Out of the box, put plainly, Yureka Plus right now is what it is, a budget phone for 9k. You have stock KitKat, no news of any update, broken LED calibration, broken SD card support *at times*, decent battery, decent performance.
So what you get is basically what you would expect out of a 10-12k phone, for a lesser cost. The Canvas would give you much better performance ON PAPER, because it has more RAM, has better battery and also that it comes bundled with Lollipop.
However, like I said, if you're not scared about being careful, getting your hands dirty and flashing ROMs, I would go for the Yureka.
Personally, I haven't regretted buying this phone. I currently run an unofficial build of CM 13. Battery easily lasts 24 hours for me on a single charge and normal usage i.e 2-3 hours SoT, data/wifi connection for the entirety of discharge. My phone hardly lags. I don't game, so I don't know about the gaming performance/heating issues.
Previously, I had CM 12.1 and a custom kernel. Heating was controlled by thermal throttling. As far as the stock Cyanogen experience is concerned, yes, you will have terrible heating at times and weird battery drain akin to the early Lollipop days. But from experience, again, 75% of the time, the battery drain is due to something *you* installed or something *you* didn't uninstall properly. And custom kernels helped me get 1-2 days of battery life with normal usage from my phone, with excellent normal and gaming performance.
So, yes, if you're not too scared to go ahead and flash ROMS, or learn how to if you don't know how yet, then go for the Yureka.

[Q] Z1C, G2 or Note 2?

Hi,
I'd like to buy a phone with good overall performance, stable CM11 and very good battery life (replaceable battery is an advantage). My N4 batt life is terrible.
1. LG G2 or Note 2 or Xperia Z1 Compact - which one would you choose?
2. How CM11 performs on Xperia Z1 Compact? How about of Screen On Time on CM11?
Note 2 is older than G2 and Z1C, but still is really comparable; it is cheaper too.
Any help will be appreciated.
Tried CM11 M9 on my XZ1C, and it's front facing camera is terrible.
Pictures taken from low light over adjusts the whites, grainy and just terrible.
Same results using Google camera.
The rear camera i think is too dark.
Restored back to stock.
This is the only thing that's holding me back on going for CM atm.
Never tried nightly builds, had a terrible experience on my previous phone
The battery life on stock 4.4.4 is great.
Still going after a full day of texting and occasional calls and social media visits.
And that's not even on stamina mode
No ideas with the other phones you mentioned.

After a month of nightly builds I can say nothing but credit to cm.
Its the best firmware for this phone in my opinion.
No lag,WiFi connects at higher speeds, almost everything works, stable ,finally a customizable ROM for this phone, the only thing that is not working is the vibration intensity i cannot change it.
I have the z1c and my girl has the g2. If you're looking for good cm11 performance, the g2 is a better bet having tried both. Its okay on the z1c but I find the camera lacking. The g2 has much more development going on for it too. However they're completely different sized devices, you'd have to decide which you like more. The note 2 is also good, but a bit dated (in my opinion) compared to the other two.

I'd say the Note 2 might suit you as you are aiming for stable Cyanogenmod or other custom ROMs. Note 2 has been out for a while and it means developers had many time playing with it. And being a popular phone, there must be like a lot of mods for it.
G2 and Z1C doesn't have removable battery. But they do have a strong battery.
As for CM on Z1C, can't tell, still love stock. Why would you install CM when stock is just as smooth, more stable, and you lose all the Xperia goodies, especially camera features.

Dude are you seriously recommending an Exynos 4 device for "stable CM"? Ahem, just no, they have huge battery drain issues due to their badly reverse engineered RIL and generally poor quality of the code drops for the entire Exynos 4 platform from Samsung.
@Taranis, If you're after stable and feature complete CM you're gonna want a Qualcomm device like the G2 or Z1C.
Obviously asking in the Z1C forum you're gonna get some Z1C-biased answers, but I honestly believe the Z1C is the best thing to come on the market this far. It has a large battery for it's screen size and resolution, you could easily go 2 days if you're not a heavy user, I usually have about 40% left at the end of the day (running CyanogenMod myself). It has microSDXC support. It's small and the build quality is top notch, the metal edges feel great in the hand. And on top of all that it's waterproof!
Regarding removable battery. If you look at the LG G2 wiki page you'll see that the Korean version has removable battery, you'll also notice that the removable battery in the Korean version has a significantly lower capacity compared to the international version (2610mAh vs 3000mAh, or roughly 13% smaller). This is the case with all removable batteries, because by making them removable the manufacturers have to adhere to strict rules regarding safety, usually meaning thicker shells leaving less space for the battery cells. Not only that, but in order to be user replaceable there needs to be a mechanism for removing the back cover to reveal the battery, also taking up precious battery space.
I strongly believe that the benefits of a non-removable battery outweigh the benefits of a removable battery. Really, how often do you actually carry a secondary charged battery, and couldn't you in that case just carry an external battery pack instead?
EDIT: Oh and another plus for the Z1C: It doesn't have silly back-buttons like the G2 , but that's a personal thing, I just think they feel weird.

Major heat & terrible battery life. Any ROM/kernel recommendations?

(This is not a "best rom" thread.)
I've flashed my girlfriend's phone awhile ago and have been running AICP for a year and a half, which has been a complete disappointment in all aspects, except features. (When they're not bugged)
Her phone is heating up to the extreme and battery life has been draining like no tomorrow. On other devices I've had a large amount of well created custom kernel's available, but for this it seems they are very closely aligned to stock.
As I only get access to her phone once every few months, hence don't have time to try out every version of ROM's. Could somebody recommend one which produces little heat? Also do you know if the heat is mostly generated by the CPU or GPU on this device?
Thank you.

AOSP vs Sense ROMs battery life

Hello, I've been thinking of switching to an AOSP-based ROM. However, I want to know if the battery life will be better or worse, and I need opinion from people who have tried an AOSP-based ROM.
I've heard that they give better battery life on other devices.
I'm not asking for "which ROM is the best", but I am asking what your experience is like with battery life, so I have full confidence that this kind of thread should be allowed. Thanks.
I personally haven't noticed a difference between the two. I'm currently running Candy5 and set the IO Scheduler to 'row'. It lasts me throughout the day. But to be fair, I don't use my phone very heavily. With heavy gaming, I'll go about 2-3 hours from a full charge to about 25% charge. I don't know if this is something that is universal or not, but the phone gets REALLY hot after about 5 min. of gaming.

Time to replace battery?

Hello XDA!
I'm here seeking for some advice.
I'm a happy owner of an LG G4 since November 2015.
Phone has been running great (minus boot-loop, now fixed, last September).
Recently I've been noticing battery drains much faster, with the same usage as usual.
I know battery life is a thing, but having never changed a battery, I'm not sure if that means it's time to replace it yet.
I've been using 'Accubattery' for a few days, and out of 3000mAh, it reports 1980mAh, 66% health. Voltage is pretty much always at 3/4 (above 4mV, the bars turns orange sometimes aswell. Not sure if that means something)
Having never used this app before, I wanted to have a second opinion about this result, before I spend money on a new battery.
Notes:
- Last week I decided to try Resurrection Remix, and battery has been going pretty great. Although I reverted back to stock due the lack of a proper camera app/loss of camera features.
- I've been testing various kernels these days. SimpleGX is the one I've been using for the longest, and the early days (months ago) battery life has been great with it. I still use SimpleGX, but battery life drains by 1% every 10 minutes the screen is on more or less.
- In the past, when I was still using the phone fully stock, it used to get really hot (once it even triggered the 'overheating' error). I heard heat could drastically reduce battery life, so maybe... Overheating hasn't been an issue since I started using SimpleGX.
Thanks in advance.
I think all of us LG G4 owners who had owned it for more than a year has been complaining of short bad battery life just like me, on Accubattery app my battery health is currently at 72% (2152 mah out of 3000 mah), like I get maximum 3.5 hours SOT , So I think it's best time for most people to buy a new battery but for me I'm used to a power bank. In few months time I can't wait to purchase an LG G6! I'm giving more time to the LG G4 because in few months time let's see if my battery health drops below 72% of health. Can't say if the battery used to the heat from the CPU specially while charging? That heat might have degraded the capacity of the battery Happy that the LG G6 has thermal pipes and a much better CPU SD 821 that might not heat the battery in long term use
It could be time. If you ever played games heavily like pokemon go or done anything in general which sustained heat long term, it will slowly kill your battery health. With that being said these batteries do tend to go bad pretty quick especially after around the 1 year mark. I personally opted for the power bear extended battery and and nothing but good to report since then. I highly would recommend going for a new battery. Easy and cheap solution
Not a fan of Pokemon Go, but while using it completely stock, it often went hot for long time.
It stopped only after I started using a custom kernel, but I'd say I spent about 6 months with that already.
Not a fan of those extended battery, mainly due the aesthetic factor, but that's more a personal thing.
I will be ordering a new battery soon (Aukey one). Thanks for the advice

ROM with the best battery?

Which ROM has the best battery? Is it Stock because it has more battery optimizations or is it a custom ROM as they are more simple?
Please comment your setup along with your ROM and usage.
Thanks for the help
i am using resurrection 5.8.3 and the battery life is great!
at the moment i am 10h SOT with 40% battery remaining
I think stock is a safe bet. Coming from an LG G2, the P2 surpasses my wildest dreams. Could possibly get 20 hours SOT with very light use.
I agree.
I believe Lenovo optimized everything about the official ROM so as to provide huge battery life, from the auto brightness all the way to background process killing and signal search. I doubt any other ROM can achieve the same result without being severely hampered, unless it's some battery driven ROM.
Rooting the device while keeping the default ROM might allow you to tweak things a bit further and squeeze some more juice out of it, although I doubt much more can be done.
Then again, you might want to consider what you use the P2 for, and how much battery life can be expected from that usage... For example, I use mine for gaming all day on mobile data, and it lasts 8 to 10 hours! My previous device lasted 2 hours and a half under the same conditions with any ROM I tried, so I really don't expect better.
