Hi,
The story (if you care)
I updated successfully the CM13 Rom (actually just wanted to update CM12, but what ever)
I found myself in a situation where i have CM13 but no gapps. So i changed CWM to TWRP to flash open Gapps aroma.
It worked but i found the system unstable so i decided to flash CM12.1 back and appropriate Gapps back.
But every trial I did there was a conflict with gapps etc etc. It worked, but Rom was always unstable.
During the flashings etc, I noticed that "factory reset" acutally left many files and apps in the phone. I figure "i juste do like on any PC, I completely Wipe the Data, and install clean OS".
So I wen't to TWRP and decided to wipe everything I could except microSD Card (wipe > advanced > checked all boxes : dalvik, system, cache, preload, data, internal storage ). The SD card had latest CM12.1 release and gapps aroma for 5.1, ready to flash
I found myself in a situation where neither TWRP nor CWM would flash a .zip file : and TWRP showing
Code:
E:Mount: Unable to find partition for path '/sdcard'
After multiple TWRP / CWM flash and reflash and trying to press any button suggesting that it would fix something, I managed to remove the
Code:
E:Mount: Unable to find partition for path '/sdcard'
message on TWRP.
Though TWRP would still not flash .ZIP files, so I tried to flash the CyanogenMod recovery .img into the boot partition and from there I was able to install the ROM (.zip)
The actual situation :
So now I have a CM 12.1 running without GAPPS only able to flash .ZIP files. (Cyanogen recovery is gone now because installed the ROM over it).
So I wish there was a post/walkthrough that would explain how to install/reinstall a clean recovery, maybe even a clean ROM, clean kernel (not that I know what it is). This walkthough wouldn't expect you to have a working recovery nor a ROM installed.

Hi rsepierre,
I've got a few questions.
First of all, am I correct if I say that you're able to boot Android and use your phone normally (without GApps)?
Secondly, are you still unable to boot into recovery and use it?
If that's the case, I think you should try flashing a new CWM/TWRP recovery through Odin again.
Don't forget to boot into recovery immediately after it's flashed!
You might want to untick the option of rebooting automatically ("Auto reboot" or something similar) in Odin. In that way you can reboot into recovery manually.
If that's all done and you're in recovery, I'd use adb sideload (or an SD card) to flash the Open GApps zip.

Ok, so I downloaded some files, and they ended up a bit corrupt, and not knowing this, I wiped data/cache + system and tried to flash them. Now, I have nothing but 3 corrupt ROMs (CM10.1 12-22-2012, WickedJB 5, and DarthStalker 6). I had some backups, some time ago, but thinking that I'd be able to backup as soon as I get to recovery, I didn't. So now, I have no backup and 3 corrupt files, but a functional Download and Recovery (TWRP 2.3.3.1). I tried to use the adb sideload function, but it doesn't work ("device not found"). And trying to flash cm10.1 gives me error status 7, and the other two don't give me errors but after flashing, they just stay stuck at the boot screen.
I tried Odin, but it becomes stuck at "aboot.mbn." It doesn't even give a pass/fail. It just says "aboot.mbn" and after 10 minutes, I raged and pulled the plug (and then it says failed).
So, now I have no idea what to do.
How to fix it?
Thanks
Hope this helps a little
I'd make sure that ur Downloaded Flash ROM's are not Bad files or incorrect... There is usually a MD5 file or long number with most downloads,
get a MD5 checker program and check the number of the file(s) you downloaded and see if they line up with OP's Site
At this point you know u have GREAT files (ROM's) to work with.
-Not sure what recovery you have, when you boot into recovery, what do u see...
-It is possible that you inject SuperSU or Superuser into your stock ROM and have ROOT access, but also still have STOCK RECOVERY!
-You will need any kind of RECOVERY other then stock, I suggest TWRP 2.3.3.1 (version 2.3.3.0 didn't show you your sdcard, don't use that version) v2.3.1.0 was fine to use in past.
How to add NON Stock Recovery (ROM has to be rooted)...
__________________________________________________________________________________________
***to add ROOT... Use ODIN to inject stock ROM with Root66's (Dark Chld) method... (at this point, you'll have rooted ROM with stock recovery)
1. Use "Terminal Emulator" app found on market (newest is v 1.0.50)
2. Download + Copy (TWRP v2.3.3.1) recovery .img file to sdcard (rename it to recovery.img)
*** you have to extract out xxx.img file out of .zip (.zip won't work...".img" file will work only)
3. Run Terminal Emulator 1.0.50 and type this code...
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
4. Done!
*** if all went well !, now Recovery is Changed ..reboot into recovery mode and check...
more info found here
At this point you will know you have rooted ROM and NON Stock recovery.
-With any non Stock recovery, you can flash any ROM. Read their Instructions and follow them to the letter.
-Be sure to wipe Cache's, System, (and most of the time DATA) and other stuff as instructions for that particular ROM says
-Eventually once you have any great (NON CURRUPT) ROM, make a backup, so you can always have a SAFE ROM to flash...
TWRP BACKUP's get saved to External SD Card in TWRP folder (but you have to Set them there when your creating NEW BACKUP)
*** Don't ever save files to INTERNAL SDCARD, incase you wipe internal DATA in future.
IMPORTANT : understand what you are doing as u do it...
TWRP Wipe Menu (options)
___________________________________________________________________________
Cache = always ok to WIPE (it will take longer to load after wiping on 1st boot only)
Dalvik Cache = always ok to WIPE (it will take longer to load after wiping on 1st boot only)
Factory Reset = wipes Cache(s), (Data - All settings + User Apps), (NOT data\media - Internal SDCARD), (NOT External Micro SDCARD)
System = just ROM Files (System Apps, System Files, NO settings at all)
Internal Storage = (data\media - Internal SDCARD), (NOT External Micro SDCARD))
Format Data = All settings + User Apps + (data\media - Internal SDCARD), (NOT External Micro SDCARD)
I have never flashed a ROM before, but there's a first time for everything and I'm about to take the plunge.
What I have now:
-a rooted V500
-TWRP 2.6.3.2
-a 32 gig sd card with a back-up on it made with TWRP
-Mahdi and Gapps are on the sd card.
What I want:
-flash Mahdi, try it out a bit, be able to go back to current stock with all my settings.
Questions:
1.After flashing Mahdi, if want to go back to the backed-up stock, will everything be again exactly like it is now, every single setting?
2. Can I do the same once I have Mahdi; that is customize it , make another back-up with TWRP and go back to Mahdi again whenever I want, keeping every setting?
3. So basically Q1+Q2 together; can I just use the back-ups to go back and forth between different ROM's keeping all the settings?
4. Is it possible to keep apps and/or app settings going from one ROM to another, or should I just install everything new and manually apply all settings?
5. In the Mahdi installation instructions it says:
" Copy GApps and ROM ZIP to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash Mahdi-Rom zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot"
Should I really flash mahdi+gapps and then do a wipe?
Shouldn't it be the other way around; first do a wipe and then flash?
6. in TWRP, how do I actually flash? Do I use the "install" button for that?
Too late for answers, I took the plunge.
I know I saw this process in a recent thread but I've misplaced it. If anyone can point me to it, I would be grateful.
I want to clean flash CM 13 on my OP3.
From what I remember, I'm supposed to store the CM 13 zip file and gapps file in the SD Card folder. Is that truly correct? The OP3 doesn't have an SD Card though I did find a folder.
If I do a factory reset and wipe everything, won't that folder also get wiped? Then how would I install the ROM from the phone?
Sorry, I know this is a straightforward process for many of you, and dirty flashing is easy. But I think a clean flash is better and I'd rather not guess and end up with a bricked phone I have to fuss with.
Again, I know this exact process is in a thread somewhere but I can't find it.
the phone storage is /sdcard/
u can use something like ES File Explorer and create a folder called CM13 or whatever u want
u do have ur bootloader unlocked and twrp installed, correct?
yes u will just the get cm zip file and put it in a folder (ex. /sdcard/CM13/)
i put the gapps in the same folder
create a nandroid backup
wipe/advance wipe - wipe caches/data/system !!!!Do NOT WIPE - INTERNAL STORAGE OR OTG!!!
then flash cm zip and gapps
Hi, thank you. Yes, bootloader unlocked, twrp installed and I've done it in the past on a different phone but couldn't sort out clean flashing from dirty flashing. I've done it correctly in the past, and it's also gone very wrong for me. I think I mistakenly wiped internal storage once and that was a disaster.
Somewhere I've also read about a factory reset through trwp.
I don't need to do that, or wiping caches/data/system is the same thing?

If you wipe internal storage, you will lose the zips for your ROM and GAPPS. You can connect your device and have it recognized on your PC from within TWRP if you do accidentally wipe your internal storage.
Factory reset doesn't wipe the system partition as that would remove your OS. Most Roms will wipe your system partition before it installs itself so generally you don't have to wipe the system partition manually, but it's good practice.
Clean flash = wipe dalvik, cache, data; then install ROM (which will wipe system before it installs, or manually wipe system before the ROM install for good measure).
Dirty flash = flash ROM, then wipe dalvik and cache. The only time you should do this if the ROM you're looking to flash says it can be done (ie. CM nightlies).
Hi,
currently I am running CyanogenMod 13 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (serranoltexx). Now, as it get's outdated and insecure, I am about to update it to LineageOS. But I am worried, because I can't just flash the ROM over CM, but I have to wipe everything. Sure, I can take backups of all my data, but my question is:
What do I have to select in Clockworkmod Recovery in order to clean up for LineageOS? And the second point is that I parted my SD-Card to use Android's option to emulate one partition as internal storage. So if I wipe, can I keep the partitions and what do I have to save before?
Oh and.. I have tried to do a Nandroid Backup, but I can't copy it onto my PC because the storage is mounted differently within CyanogenMod (the 2 partitions I wrote about) and ADB doesn't work for this either.
I hope somebody can help me
Done! /ReqClose
Hi,
I'm glad to say that I have done it yesterday. The thread can be closed and for all who have the same questions I had:
First of all I took a backup of all my data (Apps, Music, Photos etc) and put LineageOS, GApps & SuperSU on my SD-Card. Then I booted into my recovery (CWM) and wiped all data. Unfortunately it didn't work (CWM said something like "error in lineageos.zip") so I decided to use TWRP for it. There was just an unofficial build but I didn't care too much, so I used this one. It was an img file, so I needed to convert it to .tar.md5 first using a tool I found in the Internet. So I flashed TWRP then using Odin. When I booted into TWRP everything seemed to work, but when I tried to install the zip file it just rebooted immediately without an installation. So I finally used ADB sideload, and it finally worked! Now my phone is working fine!
Hope this helps someone!!
Hello so I tried installing lineageos. I used twrp 3.3.1, i opened it up from fastboot. I formatted data, Wiped, Dalvik cache, system, data. Then I moved the zip file from lineage os from pc, i tried flashing it and It ended up giving me error 1. I gave up on this. I wiped the whole thing again and tried backing up with backup I took before all that. It's giving me out partition not found. Im currently still in twrp mode. What do I do?

I am braain I read everything, when you install a Roms you must also have the gapps (open Gapps App site) then look you have to know armeabi7a which is your processor and click, then choose the size of the Gapps (I choose the nano) and then download i think you use pc? downloaded no extract put it in SDmicro, you have also downloaded the Rom Laneage put it together with Gapps so you have in the download folder in SD two zip. The rom stock that you backed up and tried to restore did not restart because you have to put back the original stock firmware, you understand why you have to do it all over again, then another thing you do back up just for the old stock and then in TWRP go to Wipe click and make cache, date, Dalvik, done system slides and again says done and go in the zip first the ROM flash has to say successful operation, then flash the Gapps and then it returns in the Wipe button click and go in Dalvik / Cache and then restart ok in boot. Remember if you want to put the Rom back in stock the Xiaomi firmware cancels Laneage you always have to start over it does so. By?
