Expected Battery Life - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi,
I bought a used Galaxy Note 10.1 for my mom and she complained about the battery saying that it would drain overnight even with the screen off. The tablet was on an official Lollipop ROM so I changed it to Temasek's CM 12.1 (latest build). Well, apart from the regular apps and GAPPS she only has Facebook installed and, in 45 minutes the tablet went from 100% to 86% with a 36 minutes screen on time.
I never owned a tablet before but this seems really bad. Is this normal? Is it the ROM? Does it have a defective battery?
Thanks

I use about 15 to 20% per hour, so depending on brightness, and if the applications are data/processor intense, you may use more. My battery floats in standby, almost no drain. Also on temasek cm12.1 v18.5, standard file system. Generally I see 5 to 6 hours screen on times between a full charge, and with mixed use, 2~3 days between charges.

Thank you.
You said standard file system? I didn't change anything so I guess that's exactly my setup?
Regarding your battery life experience, it seems that maybe the tablet has a defective battery. It consumes a lot of battery while sleeping and I don't understand why. I installed BBS and Wakelock Detector but it can't be anything other than the battery since the only user app installed is Facebook.
The tablet is in perfect condition other than this. Bummer.

[Q] Investigating a battery drain issue

Hello all,
A few months ago I became a proud owner of a Moto Defy, a great rugged phone that has been working great for me until just last week. For some reason the battery life was cut drastically! So bad that while the screen was off and not touched at all, the battery percentage would go from 100% to 40% in four hours.
what was even worse was when I would connect the charger, the phone would charge completely in less that 1 hour! I didn't seem to matter if I was browsing the web, playing music over the loud speaker, or just leaving it alone, the battery seemed to fall the same.
I began to research online for some answers since I couldn't believe that the battery would just go bad just like that! first I installed a custom recovery that had the option of wiping the battery stats, but that didn't work. then I stumbled across this thread on a battery bug in the android os 2.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039696
Even though the os on this defy is 2.2.1 I thought I was on to something. they talked about an app called watchdog. I also found an app called Battery monitor widget, which allowed me to see the battery usage in milli-amps.
I got concerned when during the day, I noticed a spike in the battery usage that was crazy! the app showed where the usage went from 99ma to 2399ma drain and I lost 8% of the battery in that one minuet! Keep in mind that the battery is only rated at 1500mAh to begin with. With that being said, I was thinking I have a short in the phone! The spike happened again later on that brought my phone to it's knees!
while reading further into the thread, I installed watch dog lite. Immediately after the installation finished, I started getting flagged for an app using over 60% of the cpu while the screen was off! Fancy widget 1.3, I had liked this app so much on my old Moto cliq, I imported it over to my defy.
Maybe I have found the culprit, I donno. This is just my experience so far, if anyone can add to this, please do. I will continue to monitor the phone and the activity of the apps. I am still shocked about the battery drain spikes that I saw! I am still, to my knolage, running the stock rom that came with the defy, now with the addition of Clockwork MOD recovery installed.
i have issues too, in the last week my battery dies in 13-14 hours with normal use. before that, it lasted 24-25 hours with heavy use. i also have sudden pattery percentage drops (which is probably the same as yours, that 8% in one minute). i already tried reflashing sbf/cm7, calibrated battery with cwm and app, nothing seems to work. now i disabled boot oc and use setvsel, and installed battery monitor widget and watchdog lite, maybe those will help :S

Since I installed rc1.5 my battery last for a fairly long time. It droped from 100% to 26% in 23 hours with medium use (data connection always active, when I used it heavily I turned on 3g, I used wifi and I was on a sunny place so the screen was bright)
Sent from my MB525 using xda premium
many have reported battery drain on rc1.5, seems its not present in every case. just installed 110909 nightly, so cant really report on that yet, but ill do as soon as i can.
Im on CM& RC 1.5, my battery last me a long time (more than 30 hours) using a lot of wifi + edge data, and lots of calls and sms, so i guess i dont have the battery drain bug

[Q] T-mobile SGS III battery drain

How do I solve the issue with battery drain on my galaxy s III?
I would live the phone in idle and within a few minutes, the battery level would be very low.
I took a snap shot of the battery indicator and saw the following. Two Apps are taken soo much idea juice.
Anyone know how to get this solved? thanks
yea
Stop looking up Pr0n. that should do the trick. :good:
Just kidding. Looks like you are using the hell out of your new phone. Mine will last 2 days if i use it as a phone and not a computer. If I use it as a computer i get around 8 hrs out of it.
I think we're all using it more than we would use an older phone. Since you know, it's new. I personally can't put it down. You may want to go into the task manager and see if anything is hogging the CPU. Yesterday I had one app that was sitting at 10% for a few minutes so I killed it and eventually rebooted. That did the trick.
Is my this good for battery life?
I am at 18h 6m and have 9% left. Biggest hog is screen at 29% w/ 2 hours & 48 minutes of time on. Next is XDA app at 23%, Android system at 14%, OS at 10%, standby at 5% and so on. I would post pics, but as you can see this is my first post and I'm not allowed :crying:
How can you use gallery and dolphin browser for a combined amount of 73% of your battery, but your on screen time is only 8%?
Gallery be default is set up to sync all your picasa albums and pics. Either change the options or wait until it finishes the sync.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I get battery drain. I have it off charger and went to work it was at 98% now it's at 92% I know I've been using it a lot but even if I don't and using juice defender it still drains a lot

Hyperion battery under-performing?

Got the Hyperion last week from Amazon and overall I was impressed with its initial performance. It was a huge boost from the oem battery as I didn't have to recharge my phone at all during the day.
My only concern is that I've noticed I haven't been seeing similar numbers as others have mentioned with their Hyperion. I mean, I'm not getting 24+ hrs of use with 8 hrs of on screen time. I'll take a photo next time when its at its lowest charge but I am averaging about 5-6 hrs of on screen time, and thats with basic use, surfing the web, texting, couple phone calls, no games or movies, wifi/gps/sync on, and 30% brightness, non rooted as well.
Does anyone else feel their Hyperion isn't performing as others have claimed?

24+ hours with 8+ hours screen is is down right impossible. The reason people get extended batteries is because they want more than the stocks screen time for 4-5 hours without worrying about their phone dying.
Not really... With the correct kernel and ROM I can push that if not surpass it. Paranoid 2.51 leankernel 1.6 been home all day from the storm... That's 3 hours 12 mins screen on time @ 67% juice left.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For me, not so much. Today for an example, I got a little over 12 hrs until I hit the 5% mark with almost 6 hours of screen on time. Home all day too with wifi on and screen brightness at 30%.
One thing I did notice though is that the "sdcard" used 1 hr and 17 mins of the battery. I've never even seen the sdcard on the activity list before, this is the 2nd time I've seen it since installing the Hyperion battery. Hmm what could it be?
I almost made it.. I'm running Aokp build 4. Not sure what the kernel is.
Plus the batteries have to go through a charging period... I noticed the first day it lasted a long time almost 2 days. (1day22hrs)I forget what the screen on time.

No, it is very possible, as I get that all the time on my hyperion.

Have you looked at any wakelocks your getting with better battery stats? That is pretty bad for the 4200 batt. Did you do the charging cycles that were detailed in the user manual?
Hey I was just passing by and reading threads, although I don't have this battery, a very possible reason that your battery life might not be as good is that you're still on stock. Notice everyone else who posted is on a custom rom + kernel. The GS3 stock roms are nice but come very bloated with apps. I read somewhere that on stock when you start up your phone, by default it starts a very impressively high number of processes ~50ish. I could be wrong on that but yeah a bloated stock rom MIGHT be the problem. Just my thought.

No I have not tried that app yet.
And yes I did follow the initial charging instructions as well.
It has to be something with the phone because even with the stock battery I had terrible performance, it'd last me only 3 hrs of on screen time where I've heard most users receive around 5.
He is my cpu time, it seems normal since the phone is spent most of its time in deep sleep.
Good at first/No so good after a couple months?
I havce the Hyperion, and have experienced close to 48 hours of life, albeit with very little use. With moderate use, I've experienced 30 hours. My screen time never surpasses 3 hours per day.
A few weeks ago I installed the Serenity 1.1 ROM. I have not been able to get more than 15 hours with that ROM.
This morning, I put in my stock battery, and it has been in for 9 hours so far, and is currently at 83%. I did a reboot about 4 hours ago, so don't have accurate screen-on stats. But I'm never at 83% this time of day with the Hyperion.
ANyone else experience good, then later, poor performance from this battery?
In the beginning I head awesome battery power. Now the battery is horrible I only get 2 hours screen time at 65 percent. Any ideas? Also undervolted and running 1.8mhz but battery still runs hot.

Defective battery?

Hey you guys,
I charged my phone to 100%, unplugged the cable and went to bed at 3:00am in the morning, when I woke up at 7:00a, the battery went down to 94%.
I looked at the battery usage, there was no Screen usage listed -even though I have the Night clock on-, and the Android System took the cake at 36% followed by Android OS at 14%, the rest of them were small numbers.
I have disabled bunch of packages through EZ Disabler, I have my screen on Auto and the slider is at 30%. I have all the Edge functions off. I do have Always On enabled but I have it disabled at night through the morning.
Now after a minimum browsing, looking through the settings, trying to figure out what's going on, the battery is at 82%, 14% drop in an hour or so.
I came from an iPhone 6 Plus, I've never heard a battery drop 6% on idle within 4 hours time. That's just crazy.
A few questions I have:
01. Is my battery defective?
02. When you Force Stop an application, will it auto start after you restart?
Thank you
A drain of 6% with the night clock on looks totally fine to me. Mine does the same as well. I also had alm the bloat wares disabled earlier, then I re-enabled them since the battery life dropped again. Things seems to settling in for me now. Can go a fill day with around 4.5hrs of screen on time.

Thanks for the respond Amith007
I expect some battery consumption when the screen is used for the Night clock, but is 6% drop within 4 hours time normal? Maybe it is? I don't have experience with an Android device before.
I'm going to test it out tonight without the Night clock to see if I still get the drain or not.
I don't know what burnt it though, was it from the screen or from the app itself, because I don't see Screen usage under the battery usage.
From what i read, the always on screen feature isn't supposed to consume more than 1% per hour. Mine also seems to eat more battery than that though.

so leave it on the charger at night

I belive you will still see some drain even with the night clock turned off. It's mainly due to the app or service running in the background. I see a drain of 5 to 6% over a period of 7hrs while I sleep. You can out the apps to sleep manually from the Battery menu if you are extremely concerned about it.
The overall battery life is not so good for me after switching to Note 7 from Nexus 6P. However the quick charge sort of solves the problem for me. The charging is extremely fast when compared to my iPhone 6Plus. So I stopped bothering too much about it . I guess it's good if you can make it a day with almost 4.5hrs of screen on time.

It seems normal to me. That being said, Samsung does have more bloatware and even if you disabled a lot of things, there might still be background processes that are using up battery.
Also, if you haven't already, set screen brightness at auto if you don't want a super bright always on display at night
Thanks all. Sounds like it's the norm then.
A little bit of disappointment to be honest, but I guess I just need to get used to it. It feels like the same experience I had to go through when switching from iPhone 4 to a Windows Phone years ago, but eventually I managed. Plenty of promising features this Note 7 has, too bad if I have to turn off a lot of them for the sake of the battery.
@ParishM
The reason why I left it uncharged is to test out the drain.
A quick question:
I know this just came out last week, but do you guys use a portable battery that you would like to recommend that is optimal for USB type C?
I belive there is an official 3100 battery pack case from Samsung if you wish to charge while on the run
http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-note7/accessories/
There are several Type C quick charge battery packs on amazon which you can look at. I am sure reading the reviews will be a good idea. I can't speak for one as I have never used one so far.

@amith007
Thanks for the Samsung recommendation, I will take a look at that.
The Amazon review, I'm sure they can be trusted, but I'd prefer a recommendation from this community better. Plenty of the reviews are based on a free product they receive in return for their "honest and unbias' review, I don't know whether to trust them or not.
Lol, those honest and unbiased reviews in exchange of free product are very trustworthy

[HELP] LG G4 battery percentage jumps

Title. H810 no root.
I'm aware the battery life on this one is not really good. That in mind.
-Example, (nothing running on background, everything but wifi off) using it normally until 14%. Pushed sleep button.
-Turn screen on like 5 mins after and it was 15%, used it a bit then again screen off.
-Turned screen on about 6 minutes later and it was 5%.
-Drained it to supposedly 1% then phone turned itself off.
-Turned phone on again and it was 2% and stayed like that for 10 mins while scrolling twitter with 30% brightness, until it turned itself off again and this time battery is to low to turn on.
Tried factory reset, draining till absolute 0% then 100% multiple times but so far nothing works.
Battery's health is good and factory original, no water, no heavy drops.
Let's say i root it (as far as i know its possible in all models), question:
Is there a way to push battery stats to make battery readings accurate?
Or what do you suggest? thanks.

Hi,
What you have is normal.
My owen device jumps frpn 12% to 15% after heavy and log use, thats normal, cause battery is cooling down/pre-ucomputed Energy is not consumed and Battery is calculated new.
The other Jump from 15 to 5 thats somthing you should watch closer. did that happen often?
all in all I have a sugestion but answer this first.
How old is Battery and usage time? (heavy or Soft? SOT? and so one)
Battery readings denpend on the Kernel. You are Stock i think?
Titan Kernel gave me awesome Display Sdreen on Times but battery is jumping too.

Thanks for replying!
Well thats one solved, it wasnt a sudden jump but rather a few minutes discharge doing nothing at all.
Battery is as old as the phone, 2015 and usage, i dont know for sure since it's an import US carrier phone sold to me locally, seems like it was a test phone like the ones you can try at stores. I would say battery use isnt any different than it would be in a daily usage and even if not, would be very rare for a li-ion battery to degrade in such a small amount of time. Gonna ask the seller.
Another thing i notice is very fast battery drain while playing music. I listen to music from home to work, like a 1 hour trip and when i got of home with 81% when i get to my job im at 68%.
And yeah stock everything with android 6.0, as i said currently not even rooted.

Sounds as if the Battery has some Altered Issues. How Often do you charge?
with Music You meen Mp3 or stream? (stream drain battery much faster)
Try custom Rom and titan kernel if u dont need stock services, otherwise rootand use greenify or other.
on Stock i Had SoT of 2 hours max. now i am back to 3 Hoeurs (i´m heavy user some days...)

Already using greenify. Charging 2 times a day, 1 before going to work, 1 when i come back, plugged while using it.
MP3 from stock music app, since i read somewhere a 3rd party music app caused an user a battery drain-
H810 has locked bootloader, do you know any flash tool?

Greenify is much better with Root
first you must unlock your Bootloader.
there are 2 Otions at the moment. Official (don´t know if possible for H810) and USU by @steadfasterX
for second:

read and choose for yourself if that is what you want
Just by a new battery. Original battery can be found for about 8$ at least here in Sweden..
I believe this is normal.
My H815 had it with both the original and a new battery. It used to be really bad when you charged it to 100%, restarted and it would drop immediately to 80%.
Also, especially on stock LG stuff (the graph on custom ROMs seems to be smoothed out), the battery graph was a mess of random spikes and dips
