Kindle Fire 7" 5th Generation - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I have a Kindle Fire 7" tablet, came stock with FireOS 5.1.1
and I have successfully rooted (supertool thx) and flashed a custom ROM (SlimROM LP thx). The issue I am having now, is obtaining mass storage mode. I have tried via terminal, with no avail. Tried all available apps on play store, no avail either. I would really love someone to figure out a solution to this, or assist. Thanks!

Two Kindles - Sideloading?

hey everyone, i have two kindle fire's. I recently rooted one and the other is still stock. i was wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to download a "kindle fire edition" game from the stock kindle and sideload/back it up on the rooted device. Might be a noob question, since i have no idea if you can even back up a amazon appstore app since i believe it doesn't actually deliver an apk when you install. any help/info would be appreciated. thanks.
I'm also open to any other methods of loading kindle fire edition apps on a rooted device if anyone knows of any...
I am assuming that you have tried to download the app directly from the Amazon store onto your rooted KF and for some reason it didn't work. So try using ES File Explorer. Put it on the unrooted KF. Back up the game using ES. That will create an apk file, then transfer the apk file to the rooted KF and install.

Interesting
I wasn't even aware i could use es to backup and create apk's... i'll try that a little later. thanks for the info.
nope
no luck. tried a couple different apps and neither worked... could have something to do with the drm on gameloft's games though. might try again with something else. if i have a recovery image of stock kindle and a recovery of cm7 can i switch to stock via twrp install, backup then recover to cm7? would that maybe work?
You can sideload games just fine on a KF. The problem is the DRM won't allow you to launch the games unless the second KF is also linked to your amazon account.
You can link your Android device to your Amazon account through Kindle reader...it might work to get around the DRM.
good to know... thanks for the info. just had a case of wishful thinking i guess. its not that hard to switch between recovery img's though. thanks

HOW TO Run Stock Launcher/Original Kindle Fire setup on a Jelly Bean ROM

I think its safe to say that I have searched all over the internet and this forum looking for the answer. How do I get to the Kindle Fire Market and factory setup while I am running a Jelly Bean ROM still. Basically I have Root access and the Project Jandycane ROM running perfectly fine and normal, but I want to know how I can install the factory Kindle Launcher to read books, get on the Amazon Video market and so on since I have a prime account and want to watch movies again. I know I need to run OTARootKeeper to use the video market but where is an APK or something similar to get back to all that and re-register as a "Kindle Fire" when I want to access these options?
Thanks for any help you may offer
Cheers

As fas as I know, the only way to do this is to setup Dual Booting.
I have not done it yet, but I think there are some walk throughs for it.

Did you ever find out how to do this? I want to do it too but, after a lot of searching, have not found an answer other than dual booting but no dual booting 'how to' for the kf. I'm sure I saw a post in passing about someone switching between the stock launcher and another launcher but can't find the thread again. It may not have been on jelly bean but I thought it was. Frustrated I can't find it!!!
Thank you (and all) for any help you may offer!

Instructions for dual-booting can be found here:

So far it is the only known way to do it.

Can you tell me why the kindle launcher won't run? Is it a specific problem or have devs not been interested in it? If it's the latter, is it appropriate to ask a dev to consider working on it?
That is I use twa_priv's cm10. Would it be offensive to ask him to modify his ROM to run the stock apps? (Hope these aren't stupid questions. :8)

Several people have tried to port the launcher and silk browser but have been unsuccessful. I read somewhere around here that someone got it sort of working, but it's only a vague memory in my mind. There hasn't been much talk about it since.

This might be what your talking about http://gigaom.com/mobile/so-i-turned-my-galaxy-tab-into-a-kindle-fire/
My only interest is the digital magazine feature that comes with the kindle fire. Zinio doesn't offer all of the content I like to read

Amazon Kindle App Incompatible with Nexus 7 on JRO03S ROM?

I just installed the Nexus 7 JRO03S ROM on a Nexus 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913562) and reset everything to factory but the Amazon Kindle App v3.6.0.87 doesn't seems to play nice with me. I can open the apps without any problem but when I open a book, it briefly shows "loading" and then the program exit.
No problem opening PDF files with Amazon Kindle however. So I am not sure what is wrong. I tried other books and ALL shows the same issue.
Anybody having this issue?

I guess you are correct, so i have edited the title to prevent future confusion.
Thanks guys. I made some adjustment to my posting and hopefully its clearer now. Basically, I flash the JRO03S ROM on the Nexus 7. Then I install Amazon Kindle App on my Nexus but its not allowing me to read any book. I am not sure what causes the problem. Anyone with JRO03S ROM on Nexus 7 could try it out for me?
- Charles
It has worked fine for me. Might try uninstalling then reinstalling the app.

I agree with reinstalling the app, updates can do funky things. I'm still on the D build so I can't test it, but I can't see why a minor bug fixing/driver update build would break Kindle.
Thanks all. It doesn't work for me. I tried reinstalling the app, resetting the device to factory etc and all doesn't work. I am back to 03D now and its ok. I suspect its the problem with the the firmware that I download. Maybe the official one would be different than the one leaked on the internet

I have a new JRO03S Nexus 7 and I have no issues with Amazon Kindle App.

I had the same problem with a stock ROM that had been prerooted, so I went and downloaded the latest ROM from google and installed that and then rooted it myself - then I could run Amazon Kindle app.
Others who had installed the prerooted ROM said they couldnt run the Kindle app either.
Funny thing is, I am now on JRO03D (not rooted) and Amazon Kindle app will work.
Maybe I need to try to root the JRO03S and root it... Will try later

When some other users brought this up in the thread of this ROM the guy who made the ROM thought it may have been the way he put it together, he said he was going to investigate, but I went back to stock and so lost interest in that thread. I've tried looking for the thread but can't seem to find it, but it was on XDA in the Nexus 7 forum.

[Q] verizon messages app on kindle fire hdx

Has anyone successfully installed verizon messages on the kindle fire? I have the 8.9. When I travel out of the country for vacation, I'd like to have access to my verizon text messages via Wi-Fi. I tried an installation via 1 mobile without luck. It will install and even open to allow for security setup, but then force closes after that point. I have not tried rooting my device. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you must have root access first. Pretty sure of it actually. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs for the app and a nice video here http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms...services-videos/explore-verizon-messages.html let me know if that gets you what you need.
Verify your firmware and then root your Kindle Fire HDX here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542456
Thanks. I managed to get it working without the root by sideloading the app. Now, my next job is to get the fitbit app working (and to sync). I'm not so optimistic though. I can't tell if it is a hardware or software issue with the kindle fire HDX. I've tried sideloading the app from this website without any luck.
Thanks!

Welcome. Well, there is a root option for the HDX now. Not sure which HDX you have but if you root your tablet, you can get most anything to work on the tablet. That's the fun of rooting.
Also having error
I have the app on my rooted KFHD 7" and it works fine. On my unlocked Moto G it keeps giving me an error message (attached below) Anyone know why?
