Possible to install android revolution over gpe rom? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have an m8 with a gpe rom on it, and I want to switch to android revolution, but I remember seeing somewhere that the partitions (or something of that nature) are different.. So I'm trying to find the right flashing process to get this back to flat stock so I can install Android Revolution or, better yet, get AR on the phone without having to wipe my user data.

It depend on whether you did a full conversion by RUU to GPE; or just flashed the GPE ROM.
If you did do a full conversion, you need to convert back to Sense (to re-partition to the Sense partition scheme, as you touched upon).
If you just flashed the GPE ROM, you can just flash the ARHD ROM.

T-Mobile HTC One M8 --> GPE

Has anyone tried flashing the GPE ROM.. I am a noob with HTC.. Been a Samsung user for years..
What is ruu?
What is S-off?
Is there anything like Knox counter on HTC that should be considered a risk?
Can anyone point me to the directions on converting Tmo M8 to GPE M8
Thanks in advance..

You can flash GPE roms just fine without converting. I am currently using a GPE rom myself and have not converted. I would only convert if you want the latest google updates. You probably need to remain as Stock GPE for those also. Also, once you convert to GPE, you cannot flash sense roms or go back to sense until a sense RUU is released. As of now there are none.
RUU stands for ROM Update Utility. Essentially it overwrites your all system partitions with stock partition files including hboot, recovery, radio, etc and software or ROM.
S-OFF stands for Security OFF. It disables security checks for things like CID (carrier identification) and allows you easier access to overwriting certain system partitions. This is both good and bad since, if you don't know what you are doing, or don't read/research enough before overwriting some partitions, you could end up with a brick, however, at the same time, there have been occasions where S-OFF prevents bricking as sometimes, HTC's own RUU's do not finalize checks until after flashing or wiping partitons, leaving you with a brick.
I think my information is pretty accurate, but anyone should feel free to add on if I am wrong about something or am lacking in some details.

Bear with my ignorance my friend..Thanks for the info.. Does that mean a stock rooted gpe will still get OTAs?

OTAs rely on stock recovery so you could use a custom recovery to root and then flash back stock recovery to receive OTAs. In short, Yes, you could/would still get OTAs.
I could be wrong but i believe that yes even with the rooted option you will still receive OTAs. Now if you have custom recovery then you will have to flash gpe recovery to take the OTA. Here's a link to the conversion thread

Wonderful.. Thank you guys.. Has anyone tried this on T-Mobile M8?

I figured I should also post that typically an RUU cannot flash older versions.. or backwards.. You can only flash the same version or later. IE: You cannot flash backwards to version 2.0 if on version 3.0. If on Version 3.0 You can flash 3.0 and higher. However, with S-OFF it is possible to flash older RUUs.

[Q] Switching between AOSP, Sense and GPE question

Hi, just a question that I couldn't quite find the answer to.
Is it safe for me to switch between AOSP, GPE and Sense ROMs if I'm S-On with unlocked bootloader? I remember reading before that you can convert to GPE RUU which adjusts the partitions but you need to be S-Off to do that and just flashing a GPE ROM wouldn't do it (and I can't remember/find where I read it from). I'm not so sure about flashing AOSP (interested cause of the new BMFR ROM by mrjaydee) and switching back to a Sense/stock ROM later on.
Basically, can I switch to an AOSP ROM and then back to a Sense ROM without issue?
Details:
S-On, Unlocked Bootloader
Stock -> ARHD 11.1 -> Sinless 3.6.0 -> Elix-R 1.2.1 -> Elix-R 1.2.2
You're good as long as you don't convert to GPE. Flashing the GPE roms are fine but full converting is what you don't wanna do in your case. Just flash the sense/aosp/GPE roms normally.

Flashing gpe firmware..

If I flash the gpe firmware, so I can use skydragon without bugs, is it just a case of reflashing sense firmware to get back to sense ?
I know partitions are changed when flashing gpe firmware, so I just want to be sure that EVERYTHING is changed back when flashing back to sense.
Cheers

moving to gpe or asop from sense s-on

looking to move over to either asop or gpe from sense im s-on with latest firmware can i just flash as normal either of these rom types or will i need to adjust to a different firmware ?
You can flash the roms, but to actually covert to GPE, you'll need to be s-off.
You also need the latest firmware for most up to date roms. ?
The M8 will need to be updated to the new 5.0.1 firmware to use latest Sense ROMS,
for AOSP you can use any firmware 3.x and up.
On the GPE Firmware you will need S-OFF as the change in partitions are locked in
S-ON.

Huh... There is a GPE rom on the sprint forum. When I was s-on I flash the rom then flash the kernel in fastboot. I was on latest firmware but not sure if that had something to do
Yeah, there might be a ROM but the full conversion to GPe requires S-OFF
You can use the GPE Rom Easily, without S-OFF it's like any other AOSP ROM.
But if you want to fully convert it to a GPE Edition, you'll need S-OFF.
The problem with the GPE ROMs/Conversion is that
the HTC File Manager cannot load SD Card Tab (You can't modify anything in the SDCard without rooting it after wards).
And the HTC Camera no longer works on GPE , it used to work before without root.
I guess HTC Ruined the Non-Sense variants again.

Converting back to Sense from GPe RUU (already followed steps from the thread within

I need some serious help here folks. So I've been bouncing back & forth between Sense & GPe (conversion) for awhile so clearly I know what I'm doing. But I tried going back to Sense earlier today from the GPe RUU using the steps here, which I've memorized already. When I go to flash the sense firmware in RUU mode, then go back to bootloader, flash TWRP, format data, then restore from external sd card but it always fails. It never did that before, just wondering, what gives? Also another thing I noticed, on GPe you get 26.19GB of free storage but on Sense it's about 24.xx, don't know the exact amount, but anyway - after flashing the firmware in RUU mode then booting back into TWRP I notice my storage is in the 26.xx range instead of 24.xx as if flashing the firmware didn't do anything.. HALP.

Please? Anyone.

Normally anything that's not GPE takes up that much for "system" partition and that's also normally why it's such a chore to convert back from GPE to SENSE.
RUU firmware than RUU Dev edition and that's what works for me
