Hi,
I am trying to increase the ringer volume using the volume up button but it is not working. Whenever I press the volume up button the volume indicator comes up but remains at zero. Even when I slide the indicator over at higher values the moment I press the volume up button it returns to zero. I restart the phone and the problem seems to go away for a couple of hours and then automatically goes to zero again without me touching it. Anyone else has this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it? The phone stays in vibration mode only and I miss calls because of this.
Thanks.
Strange problem, my volume button seems to work fine and I cannot reproduce the issue. You may have to try a full wipe and reinstall the ROM.
Hi thanks for the reply! I am on the original elephone rom. I only updated through the elephone application, but this issue appear much later!
Perhaps try flashing an older ROM again or try clean install of eragon ROM, if problem persists then maybe it's a hardware issue like a sticky volume switch.

I somehow doubt that. As OP said "Whenever I press the volume up button the volume indicator comes up but remains at zero."
For me it sounds more like the switch is working but there is a software problem.
@ OP: Have you tried e.g. to watch a video or listen to music an the higher or lower the volume? Is it working there at least?
I am using a rooted cricket h634 LG stylo 5.1, WITHOUT custom ROM installed, I am also experiencing issues with my volume up button, I have removed bloatware but that is the extent of what I've done so far. My volume wrks if I use the drop down tray, volume down works, but not up.

Hi guys.
So i managed to get my desire wet/damp and whilst it still works it has developed 3 issues:
1) The weirdest of all - the phone wont go into standby, as soon as you press the power button or let it timeout the screen goes off and they instantly turns back on to the lock screen. If i leave it, it will timeout again on lockscreen and come back on, it does this forever. I have done factory resets etc, all the same. Weird right
2) Volume keys do not work - think means i had issues getting into recovery. Finally found a widget to do it and then....
3) Trackpad does not work in recovery so i cannot re-flash or try any new rom to see if that fixed (1)
Proper catch 22
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

UPDATE
OK I HAVE AN UPDATE:
The plot thickens but i have managed to S-OFF my Desire and eventually install Clockworkmod Touch which obviously doesn't require me to use the trackpad button so I was able to use Recovery. I wiped the phone and tried reflashing the ROM i had been using (Insertcoin) but this made no difference, the phone still keeps waking up immediately that it goes to sleep (either with power button or by sleeping timeout).
So i decided to install a completely different ROM (CM10_VJ_4.1.2_v3.0) and this installed fine. Now the phone will go to sleep and stay asleep if I press the power button. Problem solved I thought!
Now when the phone is asleep 50% of the time, trying to wake it with the power button will cause it to reset immediately and goto the white HTC screen. When it restarted it sits on the unlock screen and keeps timing out, screen goes off, then immediately on again - weird. If i unlock and lock with power button it will behave. For some reason the Search key will wake the phone every time no issues. Only the power key to unlock causes it to reset. Phone is sleeping according to Battery info.
Any other suggestions for what I could try. Could this possibly be something hardware related now? If there a way i can log the key presses or reason it wakes/resets?
Any help really appreciated, the phone is pretty unusable with this reset issue now.
THanks

May be a hardware issue. But try installing a lighter ROM like dGB or MildWild and see if the issue persists.

Thanks mate. So i tried this and installed CM7 today and have discovered something. As i said above the volume down button doesn't work and the volume up only works with some persuasion. Once i installed CM7 the problem where I lock phone with power key and it instantly wakes up now persists (on the JB rom it at least stayed asleep but reset if power button was pressed again).
However whe i changed the display timeout to 15seconds i watched as it timed out and instantly woke then noticed the volume would increment down one notch each it woke up again. This leads me to think that rather then the volume down not working at all it is actually stuck down permanently and could be causing the issue here. Is there any way I can find out if this is the case and disable the volume keys through software or do i need to open up the phone and disconnect it?
Thanks for any help - i think we are getting there!

Flash a ROM which can be unlocked via trackpad and volume can be adjusted from the phone settings without touching volume keys and the power button on the top.
I recommend MildWild5.8 based on CM7. When I was on it, I totally forgot about volume and power keys because all the phone operations can be done without them.
Thanks thats a great suggestion. I actually worked out that the trackpad is being pressed down constantly too because on CM7 when i disable trackpad to wake the phone actually stays asleep.
Is there any way to disable both volume and trackpad buttons at the kernal/system level?
When playing music with the screen off, neither the stock headphone's volume buttons nor the phone's volume buttons work, requiring the power button to be pushed. The pause button on headphones works. Any thoughts? Never was this way on my S2. On Wicked v5.1/faux kernel.
More clearly: this is with the screen completely off; it works fine on lock screen. What I'm hoping to have happen is the ability to control the volume when I'm using it as a music player, with the volume buttons simply working without turning the screen on. It doesn't work on Player Pro, nor the stock music player. It also doesn't change the volume on phone calls if when the screen is powered off, but is fine when the screen is off due to proximity. Thanks!
This happens to me too, i not tested very deeply, but when i reset the phone, works normally, just after a few apps (rooted ones included) it just stops working while screen is off...
Did anyone find a solution? I have the exact same problem! Model: I9500
EDIT: Guys I found the problem. It was with one of my xposed mods. I had enabled skipping tracks with volume keys. This resulted to neither track changing nor volume control. I suspect it was clashing with my poweramp volume button controls. I disabled that option in wanam xposed and rebooted.. Everything is back to normal!

But don't you think it's a pain to reset your phone everytime? I mean isn't data loss and app restoration everytime painful? Or do you mean reboot?

Hello, a few hours ago my Nexus 7 suddenly started acting as if I was continuously pressing the volume down key. I could not even power down. Thinking I got a nasty software bug, I installed an app from play that let me reboot. It immediately rebooted into recovery though, just as if I had been holding down the volume key while it booted.
I have slimkat installed with twrp v2.7.0.0. I installed a recovery from before the skimkat installation (stock with root and twrp). But it too rebooted into twrp again (as if I was tapping volume down while it rebooted). So I tried to reboot into the bootloader to see what that would do (it allows you to use the volume keys to make selections). I got to the bootloader and sure enough, it was cycling through the options like I was tapping volume down over and over.
Help? Any ideas? I have pulled off the back cover and cleaned around the volume and power keys. It does not appear anything is wrong with them. Is it a software issue? Hardware? Any help would be appreciated.
Ok just one update on this issue. I think this is likely a hardware issue. I managed to disconnect the side key cable for the volume and power keys while it was booting, and it booted up just fine.
I am not sure what is wrong with the keys, but the fact that the tablet will boot into system when they are not attached tells me I probably need to replace them. Just FYI for the unlucky person who might also behaving this problem.
I am also experiencing volume problems. Mine is software related I think. The problem I have is that all volume and sound will disappear as if I have muted all sound. I have no touch sounds, no YouTube sound, no music audio, nothing at all from the speakers or the headphone jack. A reboot will fix it, but after say 10 minutes of use the sound goes again. The volume controls do nothing. Completely stock 4.4.3.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Hey guys really need your help. I've noticed that my volume is getting stuck in like a mute mode. It doesn't ring at all and the volume controls do not work. I primarily notice this especially after I have connected a bluetooth device to my phone. I tried doing a search and couldn't find any info on this. I did find the issue pertaining to older phones but their recommended "closing all apps" didn't fix the problem. The only way I can get my volume to function again is to power cycle my phone. Downside, is unless I'm constantly monitoring my phone, I don't always notice that it has happened and have missed several calls as a result.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
if you press the volume up or down and then press the speaker icon (that appears on top left) one or two times and then you can increase the volume and decrease as normal, it will solve the problem, i dont know how i got stuck with mute but this solved my problem at least
This might be the wrong portion of the forum, but I've got the latest Viper rom installed on my 10
I found that my volume down button doesn't affect volume at all, ever. It turns the screen off.
I've even dug through every option, toggled everything on or off testing one thing at a time, and it still does that. Only volume up brings up the volume window. It's obviously rom related, since it doesn't do that on stock (of course it doesn't)
If anyone has any suggestions, or a fix for this, let me know where to look.
Thanks!
