Last month I rooted my att note 2 and installed Twrp and the jedi X 13 rom. I noticed today that my wife's note 2 on the stock att rom has much faster data speeds. So I decided to check the baseband version and found she was on mca4 while I'm still on ucalk7. I'm almost positive that this is the reason my data speeds are slower but would like to know for sure. And if so, can I just flash the modem and ril file without touching the custom rom? And also can you point me to the proper files to flash?
Thanks,
Wade

Solved
1st, I wanna thank the mod for moving this to the right place. I had a brain fart yesterday and posted it in the Sprint forums. So thank you!!
2nd, I solved the problem with my data speeds and it had nothing to do with the modem. At&t had my phone identified on their network as a iphone 3gs somehow, so I was never on the LTE network and therefore wasn't getting the LTE data speeds.
However, through troubleshooting this I was able to find the information needed to update my baseband to the newest one without any problems and can confirm the Jedi X 13 rom works great on an LTE network in case anyone was wondering.
I love this forum and have learned a lot through reading and wanna thank everyone for all the good work!!
Thanks,
Wade
Great job Wade!

Hi guys,
I tried to figure this all out. I am on a Samsung Note 3 - i317 - Android 4.1.2 - UCAMC3.
I am in Germany from time to time and need to unlock it. I actually talked to AT&T many times, but those morons are not able to unlock it (seriously!!)! The last person I talked to said: "Why don't you just unlock it yourself, there is plenty of help on the internet". So I take that as a permission to root and flash.
However, I rooted it yesterday and I read that to unlock it I need the J3 modem. Now my question is, can I just flash the J3 modem, unlock it and then flash back to UCAM3 / do the latest OTA update afterwards? I have TWRP on the phone.
Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Please give me hints if I am on the right track.
Thanks guys!!
[EDIT] OK, so I just did it! I flashed the J2 Modem and tried the unlock. It worked! Just flashed back my CAMC3 Modem and everything is great. Thanks to those who work hard on getting all this stuff lined up for us dummies!!!
BTW your not on a note 3 lol

Your rooted phone won't get stock updates.
Hi guys,
HAHA ... yeah, of course I meant Note2 ... :silly:
Thanks for the hint that it won't get stock updates. I actually just found that out because I tried to install the OTA update.
So one last question for now:
I just downloaded the newest H3 modem and flashed it with TWRP. My system info now shows:
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Build number JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
Is it normal that build and baseband differ? I saw a screenshot somewhere else and the build had the CAMH3 version as well. Did I do something wrong or is that normal?
Thanks guys for all your help!! :good:
Your fine. Build is rom related not modem man.
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
Baseband and firmware generally read the same. ..unless you flash a different setup. ..
Modem or firmware separately from one another. .
The device won't care unless they are not compatible code. ..
Simply verify the files to make sure they are for this device and your good. ..
And of course you should always read the instructions for the files just in case the developer requirements changed for some reason. ..g

you re fine! Baseband has nothign to do with your build number. Build number generally means what rom base you are on. you re good to go. I think everyone is rocking the H3 modem right now and speeds vary depending where you are geographically but the WIFI data speeds are a little faster.
Thanks guys for the feedback!!
It's working great. Really seems to be much faster on WIFI. I didn't do speedtests, but it just feels faster.
Hello XDA
sorry to ask a question that many of you are aces at, but how can i unroot the n7100? i've done my research; the proof is the links at the end of my post. I want to unroot so that the phone can receive the latest updates OTA or by downloading official files. No custom roms, theyre just not required (yet), since its my brother's phone.
Details: Model is GT-N7100
Currently: Android 4.1.1
Baseband: N7100XXALJ2
Don't think kernel is relevant, so omitted
Build Number: JR003C.N7100XXALJ3
(i've double checked, and all above information is correct)
I wanted a few questions answering, really.
1 - What is the difference between the build number and the baseband? I have 2 note ii's in the family, and the above details are my brother's. and in both of our phones, the baseband and build number are only slightly different. What are they?
2 - In one website, i was directed samsung-updates.com (http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N7100) to download the appropriate firmware, but there was a differentiation by region code (3 letters). What is this? And what if i cant find a UK/GB version?
3 - When unrooting, which firmware do i actually use? What if there will NEVER be a sim card inserted? (it's a gaming phone only)
I will happily and with much appreciation respect your responses to this....Help me out? I may be a novice, but not a noob. I don't want it just answering; I'd really like to learn more here, so please treat me as a student (i'm only 16 anyway, but that's besides the point), and explain how and what.

you make it sound really easy, but aaagh, i dunno where to download the stock rom! (With the latest update). That's my definite BIGGEST problem. The rest of it is fine, methinks. Since you've mentioned it, is the triangle away app really necessary if it isn't going back to Samsung/dealer?
Thanks

Hello all. I was just curious if anyone was having any touch screen Issues with their note 2014? It's not a lag issue but the screen sometimes does not sense my finger. I have to re-touch frequently to get it to recognise. Same with using a pen.
I have no screen protector installed, and not rooted. As far as I know there is no way to adjust the sensitivity from settings. I do not have this issue with any other device including my note 3 phone so I know I'm not that cold blooded.
Is this a note 10.1 thing? Debating on going through the hassle of Sammy support.
Thanks

Screen fix
hey i had the same issue and it seems that all of these have this issue...but there is a fix for it and no samsung will not help you witht this...done asked around on that one as they say everything is fit to specs...which is technically correct but causes an issue for us gamers. if you are rooted or want to root, do so and flash the KXUANC2 kernel through ODIN as you would any other package. this will break wifi at first but this is where you need root permissions. using a root explorer, navigate to /system/build.prop, long press and open with text editor. Find ro.securestorage.support=true and change the value true to false (ro.securestorage.support=false). reboot and problem solved! Make sure that when you are using your root explorer that it is set to RW and not RO.
Kernel:
Appreciate the info. I got the device recent recently and not rooted yet. I think I may wait for KK and see if that helps. If not I'll probably root. Glad and not glad to hear it's not just my tablet. Sounds like Sammy could fix this with a kernel tweak.

Here is the thread relating to the new firmware with the improved kernel....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2686537
And then 22sl22 was nice enough to mirror the P600ZHUANC3 ROM which is newer than the start of that thread.
Also includes the improved kernel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51308363&postcount=23
(give him thanks if you download...)
You do not need to be rooted to install this ROM in Odin... Its multi language so when it starts up select English.
If you do want to root (I did to add mutli window and add more multi tasking apps) then use Chainfire's Auto Root which works install Odin
Rooting breaks your Knox warranty, but I do not believe that negates any hardware malfunctions covered under warranty if there is no direct correlation.

i can confirm this works on my sm-p600. no root required, just flash using odin:
1. download and extract the zip file.
2. open odin 3.09 and select/browse AP for the .tar.md5 file
3. don't touch any other settings; just click start and let the magic work its wonders

It's not just the kernel you're updating from the download link. You get a new set of firmware. I can confirm there's nothing of the ghost touching (erratic multitouch sensitivity) issue encountered thus far.
If you are using chrome and still feel a tiny jitter AFTER flashing to the new firmware, I recommend this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700481
With these two fixes I finally feel that I made the right choice in buying the perfect tablet.
I'm sorry I'm still just a bit confused on the file. Don't want to muck this up. Is it the "megafile" that 22sl22 posted in the second link or the drive file? and yes I applied the chrome tweak already. I'll try this update in ODIN tomorrow. This should not affect the ability to do OTSs I take it? I've been wanting to stay unrooted to try the official KK update whenever that happens.

the file uploaded on megafile or google drive is the same. just pick whichever that gives you faster download speed.
it will not affect your ability to check OTA (over-the-air) updates because it is the official samsung firmware. you will remain unrooted. warranty will not be void.
to put it simply, samsung has yet to release any update for the US. by flashing that firmware, you're simply changing your current US version to a HK version (everything's still in english for me). if it really bothers you, just flash back to an updated US firmware when (and if) samsung actually releases one.
