I am trying to use a bluetooth Media Remote. When I search for bluetooth devices the device will appear and when I select it asks if I want to connect. However when I click yes it does not actually connect. I have tried to run XMTC and changed the name from ODB to the name of the device. This changes the icon of the device on the unit however it still does not connect. This appears to be OS\driver issue not a hardware issue since the device is being found.
I have tried two different bluetooth remotes with the same results(from amazon)
Satechi® Bluetooth Button Series (Media Button)
iSimple Portable Wireless Remote Control
I can however connect these to my phone and change the volume on the phone while I am streaming music to the head unit. And this is nice, but I would really like to be able to control the head units volume instead.
Does someone have a custom ROM that could fix my issue?
Edit - was able to resolve my issue. Used xposed framework and bt module to remove the name limitation.

I am glad you were able to resolve your issue. Hoping someone smarter than me can fix mine
Anyone have any ideas how to get other bluetooth devices to work with this system? I expect someone that can build a custom ROM could fix this.

Did anyone ever find out which xposed module this is?
Hey there, I've got the Satechi® Bluetooth Button Series (Media Button) thing too, and surprise surprise, it won't talk to my Pumpkin HU (rk3066, android 4.4.1, mcu KLD2).
I've rooted the stock using the #hct#root# trick and installed SuperSU. I would love to get the button working!
I've got my head unit installed in my right-hand drive car (am in UK) - and where it's mounted, it is just out of reach unless I lean forward - so I can't really use it without looking, apart from using the tiny buttons down the side.
Happy to try the xposed framework but like OP I don't know which modules to use to get a USB BT dongle working. Any help greatly appreciated!
I definitely may be wrong but I assumed he was referring to the Xposedmtc module (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54334741) in the OBD settings where you specify the string. Though I assumed this only worked for OBD devices. I tried using it to pair an iRadar device with mine but was unsuccessful.
Oh, poop. Thanks all the same. Will keep an eye on this thread and report back if I ever get anywhere! Could it be that these HU's are only Bluetooth 2.0 compatible? Every device I've seen seems to be 3.0...
Hmmm. I'm thinking of getting a cheap wired USB numberpad (they're like £3) and using it with a keyboard mapper like this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper
and this list:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/KeyEvent.html
Oh and this is as much a note to self as anything!

It's going to be ugly...but that's never stopped me
Bumping as I have interest too.
You guys are making this way too difficult. Check this out. It works great on my joying.

Anyone has found which xposed bt module the op was talking about ? I have already bought the bluetooth remote but I can't connect to it. (Works on my phone)
Also bought a Satechi® Bluetooth Button Series (Media Button) for use with my Joying unit but alas no success, so bumping this thread to see if there is any progression.
@dcmtnbkr are you able to show a quick video of your unit in action?
For the people that have gotten their bluetooth "remotes" to work, can you simultaneously also pair your phone and perform calls?

I bought much the same device but it won't directly connect to my HU. The HU will connect to my phone and my phone connect to media controller so I know all the devices work. Do I need a Droid program to allow access directly to the HU which is playing music from a USB flash drive.
Main problem is HU has panel controls for volume but cannot skip a song with going into player program. I use the display for my engine management gauges and don't want to keep getting out of program just to skip a song I don't like.
jim
I'm familiar with the one you're talking about, it's not the same thing.
I found another one that would work and is less intrusive.

I'm trying to find a way to block my phone from recognizing my car's built in bluetooth. It keeps popping up with a message to reconnect, so my other bluetooth device blanks out for a second repeatedly. I guess this is more of a generic android question since it could apply to any android phone, but since this is the phone I have, I figured I'd post here. Thanks for any advice.

On my device, my bluetooth settings are such that the phone is only visible to paired devices. I don't know how much that will apply to you as I am not running the stock ROM, but rather the W03 Slim ROM.
I'm guessing that turning the car's bluetooth off is not an option?
Cheers!

I haven't found a way to turn off the car's bluetooth. That was my first thought. I've tried a few roms and they have all had the same problem. I'll try that one out and see how it works.
Thanks!

Thinking some more about it, if the car's bluetooth is trying to reconnect does that mean it has already been paired? If so, I don't know that my ROM would help. Also I'm curious as to what happens if you do let the car reconnect to your phone; I would think you should be able to select which bluetooth device gets the phone and make that the default.
Really just wondering out loud, I unfortunately cannot try any of those myself.
I hope this helps a little...
Cheers!
Let the car pair and connect so you know you have the connection. Then select keep device hidden option. Then delete the car paring.
I have tried to pair two different bluetooth media controllers but neither will connect. I see them as available in the devices list but when I click connect nothing happens. I assume if I can see them in the list even the funky bt setup on this thing can use it or is that not correct?
I have a joying UQ124 its the no cd quad core version if it helps
Have you read this?

I did but was hoping someone had better results. Also, I was confused about the person who said they resolved an issue by using and xposed module. I didn't find any module that looks related to bt in a relevant way and was not sure if they were even having the same problem.
I guess I just want to know if this is even possable with this headunit or if I should keep looking for a solution.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do with your specific bluetooth controllers, but if you are unable to get them to work as intended, consider the back-lit version of the Lenovo N5902 or something similar for multimedia control of your JY unit. The N5902 works well as a multimedia remote for Android or Windows home theater multimedia systems as well as Android head units. All you'll need is an open usb port for the small wireless dongle and you'll be good to go.

Ideally I would like to use something like
amazon /iSimple-Portable-Wireless-Smartphones-Bluetooth/dp/B00KPZN5UC/ref=pd_sim_107_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=411ue0yFG3L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=0QC6Y0SC8ZEF13W3638N
So I can have the controlls on the wheel, but I guess my underlying question is will the unit work with bt devices besides a phone and obd.

I have installed an Axxess RFASWC Universal RF Steering Wheel Control, Once the receiver is set to radio type 11 connect the two wires to Key1, and key2 every button except the one on the back can be mapped.
Currently trying to find a usb or Bluetooth media control for android that connects to this HU but so far not been successful.

I have to admit the Axxess RFASWC has worked out well for what it is, however I am currently waiting for a BMW I-Drive and an Arduino Leonardo board with in built CAN BUS to arrive.
Planning to write some software to convert the CAN BUS messages from the I-Drive into USB HID Remote commands.

Check out the link below for a more cost effective SWC Key Button solution.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151832759268?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
You can also possibly find these units even cheaper online by searching for:
SWC Key Button FEELDO 4252 For Android DVD Head Unit
or
Car Steering Wheel Control Key Button For Android DVD/GPS Player Bluetooth Phone
Please note that I've only installed one of these units on a Joying JY-UQ124, and 6 out of the 7 buttons work correctly. The lower right call button does not register any signal in the JY SWC settings, so I'm guessing the button is defective. That stated, it's been about two weeks since requesting help from the ebay seller, and I'm still waiting for a reply on this specific inoperative button issue. Hopefully, the delayed reply is only due to the long Chinese New Year holiday.
Hope this helps...

Totally possible, infact the bluetooth version has been done already http://www.volcano.at/iDrive/
The iDrive controller and arduino arrived earlier today and only played around with then for half an hour making sure they were working, so far managed to receive lots of CAN BUS raw data.
I have also downloaded a shed load of BMW CAN BUS codes that I have yet to go through, but my initial thought is to try sending the code to impersonate turning the lights on to see which set turns on the key backlights.
Once i have more time I will get a better understanding about how the CAN BUS side of things work, and hopefully do what I want to do.
Just thought I would do a quick update on getting the BMW IDrive working with the Head Unit.
most things that i want it to do works, but the rotary part of the control, for some reason I cant get that to initialise and start sending messages when twisted.
Whats working..
Stick press -> Play/Pause
Stick left/right -> prev/next track
Stick up/down -> vol up/down
Menu -> home
Back -> back
Media -> sends shortcut keypress that starts amazon music
Radio -> sends shortcut keypress that starts the radio
Tel -> sends shortcut keypress that starts bluetooth
Nav -> sends shortcut keypress that starts Here nav
Option -> i keep a record of the last shortcut and it starts the next in line (Amazon Music>Radio>Bluetooth>nav)
What i need to do..
Enable long press for left/right -> fastforward/rewind
Enable long press for up/down -> continuous volume up and down until i release it.
and the damn rotary control lol.
adding a sensor that detects the brightness of my dash lights and alters the controller led brightness, at present i just have it set to 50% brightness all the time.

Yes, very nice implementation by hobbytronics, the HU thinks it is connected with both a USB HID Keyboard, and a USB HID Remote.
USB Keyboard starts the default apps i have setup with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apedroid.hwkeyboardhelper&hl=en and takes care of HOME (Menu), BACK (Back), and Switching between recent apps with the option button.
USB Remote takes care of Pev, Next, Play/Pause, Volume, etc..
Once i have it all working I will post the code up here.

I honestly dont remember. I stripped the wires on the stereo and on the remote receiver and was just going to try it one way and if it didnt work, try it the other. It ended up working the first way so I put connectors on the end to make the connection permanent and called it a day. I doubt it would hurt if you had it backwards.
[edit] Obviously red is 12v and black is ground. I used the google translate app to translate the directions, they gave me some info. It uses your phone camera to translate written language.
Is anyone else having issues syncing to your car? Mine connects for 5 seconds and then flashes phone not detected on my phone screen and disconnects. I am running the deluxe standard model, not the special edition. I have checked the easy stuff like making sure Bluetooth is enabled and successful pairing. I can connect to Bluetooth speakers no problem. My Google music app also froze and could not be recovered by powering off or closing apps. I had to uninstall and reinstall. Let me know if anyone has had a similar issue and hire or if you fixed it.
I listen to music in my car via A2DP/BT Audio & have no issues with either listening, or controlling (fwd, rewind, etc...) music apps like VLC via the car controls.
no problem pairing with my car, mobile, music etc etc.

2 ppl confirmed properly working BT;
1: make sure you're on the latest firmware
2: close any other apps which might be using BT (do you have other BT devices on you? They might be conflicting)
3: make sure your music app is whitelisted in battery optimization options
4: try other music apps, like VLC
5: choose balanced power management
6: factory reset & try BT audio as the 1st thing after a fresh boot; this should help you isolate the issue.

I have the same issue sometimes. My Honda Accord had no issues pairing to my Note 7, and connected to it perfectly every time. The car also initially paired quickly to the ZF3D, but when I get in the car I have to manually select the car in the Bluetooth menu. If I try waiting, it will either never connect, or flash like yours. connect for a second then lose connection.
either way, manually selecting it makes the phone keep its connection throughout the entire drive.
Hope it helps!

Thanks all, I tried all of the tips above to no effect. Manually selecting still drops within 5 seconds. Tonight I will try it in a different car to rule out a compatibility issue with mine. I aIso downloaded VLC and made sure everything was white listed. Phone reset had the same issue with no apps installed. My old Note 4 pairs just fine and stays connected. The Buick Bluetooth (2012) system isn't the most up to date either and has limited capability (phone only, no music) so it may be a car issue.
Thanks,
Eric

I am finding that auto connecting to BT in the car and on my Gear S3 is hit and miss, however i have had no issues when doing it manually, but it is a pain in the ass. hopefully ASUS will fix this when they release the nougat update!
My Zenfone 3 will pair with the car and a number comes up that I have to type into the phone but the keypad flashes up on the phone for 1 second and then disappears too quickly to enter it. I have tryed it about 10 times and always the same result. Anyone have any idears on how to fix it.
I have a MTCC-KLD6-V2.97 Android 5.1.1 800*480, with a december stock rom.
Since I've installed it, I always had a problem with the bluetooth: at the first start, if I do a search does not find any device and from my smartphone I can not find the unit.
After a completely shutdown (with car off) and restart, the bluetooth seem to work properly and i can connect my phone; the same thing happens after I went to the factory settings or when it boot with Android logo instead of the configured startup logo (It appears to be a fresh start after a unit reset, or similar): I have to turn off the car and wait for the complete switch-off time, otherwise I cannot have a Bluetooth connection with my phone.
The problem does't seem to be related to the Rom or MCU, I made several attempts, and the problem still persists.
I don't know if it can be linked, but when I tried a Malaysk 5.1.1 rom, I had to disable the MCT Service module, because otherwise I couldn't always connect my phone.
Someone has encountered a similar problem? How did solve it?
Have you checked that you have the correct BT module enable in factory settings ?
I think yes.
Let me explain: when I received the unit, in the factory setting was set on IVT_BT type.
I always had this problem, so one of the attempts that I made was to change the type of form, and I have tried all the available ones:
WQ_BC5
WQ_BC6
Parrot_FC6000T
IVT_BT
SD_BC5
WQ_BC6B
WQ_BC8
SD_BC8
In all cases, after the boot, in the Bluetooth settings does not appear the name of the unit and the pairing code.
If I try to manually configure name and passcode, if I go out on the settings it lose them. If I try to do a search, no device found.
The only module that seems to work is IVT_BT, but occasionally causes me the problem I described above.
The unit has always had 5.1.1 rom, what I thought of trying to do is use a 4.4.4 rom (maybe the new Malaysk), it could be a solution?
AFAIK, apart from the Parrot modules that have just started to appear, MTCB and C units always come with BC6 BT module. KK shouldnt make any difference really.
The only way to tell from certain is to remove the top, does it have a DVD/CD drive ?
Yes, I'll try to disassemble the unit and open the DVD to check the physical BT module.
But I don't understand, if I configuring in the factory settings the BC6 module will don't see the unit name and passcode and I cannot set it up in the bluetooth configuration... Also the MCU version don't make a difference?

Thats why I said have a look at the BT module, to establish exactly what one it is.
You could try MCU MTCC KLD9 v2.98 and see if that works better, its newer.
This is the BT module; unfortunately I cannot see good the face with the processor, I should completely disassemble the radio and today I had no time...
However, it seems that there is nothing written over that show the kind of bluetooth ...
I think I'll have to disassemble everything, find someone that sell me just the module and change it

Its quite easy to remove the DVD drive and/or the side of the unit, there should be writing on the bit of the BT module that faces the side of the unit.
Bluetooth Issues
I have a question with the BT on my unit. I have the external Mic connected and people complain that they can't hear me and they always hang up me. Music works fine but on phone call I have to switch my phone to Speaker. Would disconnecting the external Mic would improve the call quality. Do you suggest I get another external microphone? If you do can you please link me to a good one. Please see the picture for my unit's information.

Theres a specific thread about how to mod the mic in the hardware section.

I have the exact same issue right now. Did you ever resolve it?

No, i'm sorry. The touchscreen of my old unit it broken, so i've changed it with a most modern unit, with 2 GB ram and Nougat os.
I keep on setting the audio bluetooth codec under dev optioons on "aptx" but after exiting the option goes back on "default".
Anyone can help?

Mine doesn't appear to stick either, but when I use my BT speaker I see an option in the connect dialog to use the Qualcomm aptX driver even though the codec is set to default (SBC). I don't see this aptX option when using my car or earbuds. I know this doesn't really help much, but I thought it was relative. I do know that the AVRCP setting does stick. Have you looked in the Google Issue Tracker? I'll go and star the issue if I can find it.
Edit: It is THERE listed as closed due to lack of data, feedback. Seems they ignored the obvious.... codec selection not sticking?
How do you tell if aptx is working while you're playing something to say a wireless speaker?

In BT settings I see a toggle for Qualcomm aptX and it's on... but in Dev Ops the BT codec still says Default: SBC. I think the audio codec setting there is busted, but the phone seems to use the best available codec. The device is a Creative (Soundblaster) Roar BT speaker. Now if I could only get the phone to auto connect to my car kit. Stays paired but will only manually connect which is a real pain.

Hmmm. My JBL Flip 4 is paired and it can use aptx but no option there. Weird.
My fm transmitter car kit will connect automatically, as long as it's set for media and phone calls.. Is yours just set for media only?

Yes, I've tried every combination there. It was working perfect with the N6P, and has never worked with the P2XL. Car kit is the absolute cheapest Chinese one you can find on Ebay... audio only, BT version 2.0 I think with no phone mic lol. Time to pony up and get a newer/better one. Had not considered FM transmitter because my car has the line in AUX. in my console so I can hide it.... It's about the size of a matchbox. This is a first world problem I know, but really annoying to me, and I know it's the phone because the Nexus was working for a year no problems. Thanks for your response.

We are both very frustrated here. Me cause I know I have an aptx capable device and am not getting to use it. You because you can't do a simple auto connect via bluetooth. Oy! Come on January update!
see my post here for a similar issue that I was able to workaround fairly easy
TLDR: You need root, edit your build.prop (using text editor, some app from the play store, etc) and change the following key: persist.vendor.bt.a2dp_offload_cap
by removing -aac from the string.
I'm sorry if it looks like I'm spamming I just encountered this issue on a lot of forums with no result and I do hope that this will help some
