How to install CyanogenMod 11 (ChronoMonochrome) including Chrono kernel? - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I am running CyanogenMod 10.2 by TeamCanjica on my Ace II (with the default kernel). But I want to install CyanogenMod 11 by ChronoMonochrome.
The page states
Installation on stock 4.1.2 using temporary CWM 6.0.2.8 recovery is not supported. Proceed first any custom kernel installation, e.g. chrono kernel 2.24.7.

I am not on stock 4.1.2, but I do not have a custom kernel (unless it was included in the CM10.2 ROM). Therefore I want to know if I should install chrono kernell as well.
Can anyone tell me the steps I need to take to flash the CM11 rom?
Is it just
Select "Wipe data / Factory Reset"
Select "Install the zip from External Storage"
Choose the CM zip file
Choose the GApps zip file
Click to collapse
Or are any special steps needed to install the chrono kernel?

I think it's OK to follow the step to flash it directly
if you are worried about it,you can install standalone Chrono Kernel first , and reboot to recovery to flash this ROM

Like @fim5646 says, it's okay to proceed installation directly.
But to be safe:
- Format system
- Wipe data/factory reset
- Install latest kernel from Chrono
- Reboot back into recovery
- Install ROM
- Install latest kernel
- Install GApps, if needed.

how to upgrade from 4.0.1 to 4.0.3

Can someone help me how to upgrade my GN to 4.0.3? I'm on 4.0.1 now and already rooted but i don't know how to update it to 4.0.1 because i'm new to this.
Can someone give me a complete instruction on how to do it. All the files needed.
Thank you
1. Go to dev forums, find a ROM you'd like (builded 4.0.3)
2. Download the ROM
3. Nandroid backup [optional; recommended]
4. Wipe settings,cache,dalvik
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash Gapps (if required)
7. Flash Kernel (if desired)
Verify you have Clockwork Recovery installed.
Sorry for my innocence, but how to do the ff.
4. Wipe settings,cache,dalvik
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash Gapps (if required)
7. Flash Kernel (if desired)
I'm new to this its my first android phone and first time to do all of this
PMJI - also new to android, I've been lurking around watching, still on stock 4.0.2
@ zephick - it reads to me as though clockwork mod recovery install would need to be done before following your instructions: yes / no??

That's what I meant by verify having Clockwork Recovery installed. There are multiple ways in doing this, you can either:
1. Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357642&highlight=clockwork
Download file, put it in your ADB tools folder
Go into bootloader mode
fastboot flash recovery whatever_the_recovery_file_is_named.img
2. Download ROM Manager from the market and flash CWR with that. [Need root]
@clancy: Yes you are absolutely correct. You need Clockwork Recovery. And no need to worry about lurking because that's what I did in my first year of XDA. After lurking so much, I was finally able to know what everybody was talking about and eventually contributed.

CWM Disappears after installing any new rom.

CWM is no more there after installing a new rom and new rom won't load. Then i have to flash the stock rom again > root it > install CWM. Again when i install any rom it would install normally but nothing gives a blank screen after reboot and the stock rom is not even there.
The situation is occurring with the following;
Phone: Sony Xperia ARC S (LT18i)
Bootloader: unlocked
Android version 2.3.4 (Build 4.0.2.A.42) -
I have made multiple attempts on installing new roms but nothing works. Every time i reboot after installation im left with a blank screen. Can anyone advise what the problem could be ?
Thanks
Did u flash the kernel for the ROM u flashed ? The ROM will not boot without its kernel.

you must be installing CWM into the system through one touch command prompt program.. as such as soon as the ROM changes and you wipe out data and cache, CWM disappears..try flashing a custom recovery kernel which are available even for stock roms.
Also follow these steps for a custom ROM (eg CM9):
download the ROM, extracted it into a folder, copy the boot.img where you can remember, then copy the original cm9 ZIP - not the extracted folder- into the root of SD..use fastboot mode of flashtools to flash the kernel boot.img which you had copied..its a recovery kernel so CWM should open..wipe out SD data..then cache..and then go into advanced option and clear dalvik..and then proceed to install zip from sd..then gapps.zip if u want..it should install fine..and then reboot.
Press Thanks if you think i was of help to you..:good:

Got it - Yes i was installing CWM within stock rom via market. though i tried to install it through adb/windows but still i guess the problem was all about not installing a custom recovery kernel.
Thanks a lot !

but be aware that that recovery cannot be cleanly restored at this time.
The custom recovery is still very valuable - for installing CM11, and for getting ADB access to the device in recovery mode.
But a restore will need to be accompanied by a factory reset to get the stock OS to boot again, or an Odin reflash of the stock image. My take on it is that the android_secure files cannot be backed up by CWM as of now.
Anyone planning on flashing a ROM might consider downloading the stock image for their device before they start, IMO.

Resurrection Remix N installation

Hi!
I want to install [ROM][7.1] RESURRECTION REMIX N [5.8.0][BJRR][OxygenCam] 29.11.16.
I understand how to go to bootload, recovery, use adb, fastboot etc.
I just lack of some practice.
My question is, in which order install/flash everything?
It's written
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Download the latest build
- Download Gapps
- Take a nandroid backup
- Recommended - Full wipe and factory reset
- Flash ROM using latest Recovery
- Flash Gapps
- Reboot.
- Enjoy!
Installation Files
1.) Required twrp
2) Required Firmware & Modem 3.5.5-CE
3.) rom
4.) Open Gapps

I don't know which firmware/modem I'm using since I installed TWRP, OxygenOS Open Beta 8 (Nougat), then messed up and returned to 3.2.6 with original recovery etc.
I'll unlock the bootloader again, install TWRP in order to flash the ROM, Gapps and firmware/modem (just in case I guess).
But, at which step I should flash firmware/modem? After flashing rom and before gapps or at some other point?
Thanks a lot for your help!
(Oh, and I sure hope I'm in the right section of the forum!)

From STOCK to CUSTOM rom

Hi, I would like to install custom rom for my friend. He has Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini GT I 9195 LTE version. From what I've read, I should flash custom recovery by Odin from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2678420 , than install custom rom for example: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga.../rom-cyanogenmod-14-0-s4-mini-3g-lte-t3471761 (it's LineageOS 14.1). Before installing custom rom i would like to full wipe(everything possible in twrp wipe section) . Here's my question: Do I need to flash stock firmware(from sammobile 900 MB it's huge) before flashing custom rom or LineageOS has built-in firmware and it's not necessary? Ideally, if you would write me at points what should i do from the beginning. Regards

No you don't need the stock rom unless you want to go back to stock later.
1. Flash the latest TWRP with odin. (Untick reboot option, and pull the battery when you complete the flash, then put battery back in)
2. Reboot to recovery. Wipe system, data, internal sd card0, cache, dalvik/art cache
3. Install the custom rom(& gapps if you want them) as per instructions on the first post of the rom thread and reboot
